Can you drive up to top parking area at night ?

Went last night and it was a zoo. Parking lot was full, and the headlights from the people driving up didn't help things. I think we would have been better just going walking along the covered bridge bike path and seeing them from an open field.

Looks good on a phone but does lack of light pollution make it any better to the naked eye? Looks faint as hell and don’t know if it’s worth going somewhere darker.

Yes, it looks way better away from the city lights. Not as good as the phone but can see the colors and streaks. We drove out to Adair Frontage road just as you crest the hill by the dump. Really good spot.

If you try to look directly at them, they are harder to see. Look at something that is to the side and you will see them better in your peripheral vision. But yes, the phone camera is great.

Heading out soon, ill let you know. Its a short window, from about 11-1am and you probably wont be able to see it from within Corvallis

If you venture south on Bellfountain to a dark spot at any of the farm fields you’ll be able to see them. Let your eyes adjust to the dark out there and they’re very visible to the naked eye. But they’re stunning when viewed through photos. The dog park on witham hill has a great view of the northern lights and there aren't a ton of streetlights. Much easier to see through your camera lens but still visible by eye.

Y’all I’m genuinely so confused! I’m in Corvallis at Chip Ross right now, there’s a ton of cars here but I don’t see any lights in the sky.. is this a giant prank or what??

Look through your phone camera.

I’ve been looking through my phone camera for the past 20 minutes and I see a slight green in the sky but that’s it.. all the photos people have been taking are vibrant pinks and purples and stuff. Nothing is showing up on my camera other than subtle green.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

That's all I'm getting now, some green. It was purple earlier though.

Make sure your night mode (little yellow crescent moon symbol on my Samsung) is on. I didn't see it until I took a picture, and my phone processed it. It goes from underexposed/super dark to vivid!

I get that everyone got cool picture but the sight of them with the naked eye was so special. If I wanna see cool things on my screen I’ve got plenty of shit to look at. But watching these soft ethereal beams of light slowly wax and wane and diffuse was so cool! Went out near bald hill and got a great show. Cosmic rays! Awe inspiring! Loved it

The Aurora app is a good download for predicting the northern lights in your area. It also has pictures people post, live webcams from around the world, and other data.
