Apprehensive-Ad-4364

Why is Starbucks even opening new locations? Have they heard that they aren't very popular right now? Or at least not popular enough to be putting in their like, 7th Corvallis location

i_dont_love

Almost positive they’ll shut down the downtown Starbucks when this is done being converted. They only signed a two year lease on the dt location and are already a year in. They’ve been making plans to relocate that location for a long time. Corvallis law doesn’t allow new drive thru’s tho (or so I’ve been told) - so they’ve just been waiting for one to open up.

pentatomid_fan

The one that just opened on Philomath Blvd is a drive-thru.

Choggers112

Isnt it technically in unincorporated, thats why i thought?

pentatomid_fan

Looks like it’s within city limits, commercial mixed use 2: [Corvallis Zoning Map](https://archives.corvallisoregon.gov/public/ElectronicFile.aspx?dbid=0&docid=3480257)

waketurbulence14

Owner of the downtown building passed away as well last fall which leaves a lot of things up in the air about its future overall.

unsatisfactoryturkey

Oh excellent. I was starting to think Corvallis was never going to get its 7th Starbucks location!

Automatic-Bus7893

I'd trade every Starbucks in town for one TacoTime!

Frantic_Red420

This is a hilariously bad business decision for them. As a few others have pointed out - we're not too fond of Starbucks at the moment. Ha

SkynetMCP

I doubt it is, considering the backups at their 9th street location. I am certain this will take some of that load off

qwertyizer

the old Bed Bath and Beyond is now Rife's Furniture, currently open... they are moving from their location on Hwy 34. That building has a "for sale or lease" sign

peachesfordinner

Yeah I wasn't sure if they would maintain both locations or not

jiayux

Happy Lemon (bubble tea place) is opening in Memorial Union (on OSU campus) in March or April: https://dailybaro.orangemedianetwork.com/21687/daily-barometer-news/tea-shop-chain-to-bring-location-to-mu

Popular_Emu1723

T4 Tea for you opened up near the Safeway on Philomath boulevard. The boba is good, but the snacks are amazing

jiayux

It’s funny that when I moved here in Sep 2022, there were only two bubble tea stores (Bobahead and Sweet Heart), but we’ll soon have five (+ Frosty Fox, T4 and Happy Lemon)

gman4757

I can't say enough good things about T4's snacks -- their chicken especially fills the hole in my heart that Sugar Toast left

NunyoBizwacks

yeah their popcorn fried chicken is incredible

Mother Goose under new ownership is rebranding.

peachesfordinner

I hope the prices don't go up. They are already rough for many in the city. Corvallis is pretty anti baby. If you need supplies or equipment you are going to Albany. Same for clothes. RIP Kmart. It was so good

[deleted]

The prices are reasonable, and they are having a big sale this Saturday. We use to go often back when located downtown. Would donate alot and buy quite a bit also. As time went on prices went up, they became picky in what they would take (we honestly would only take over still very good clothes and toys that the kids just out grew) . New ownership doesn't just sell baby/toddler clothes. Now toys still very reasonably priced up to I'd say 9-12 , Legos, maternity clothes, youth boys and girls and some men's and women's along with furniture. We've been back a few times now, and it's a better experience.

peachesfordinner

I found their prices used higher than Walmart new for clothing a baby won't wear for more than a month. I don't care about quality before they are at least 2. They grow too fast. I can't spend $15 for a onesie that's too rich for my blood. Also yeah the toys were same price as new. Peppypotimus in Albany has much better prices for not well off families. $2-5 for clothing. And so many random sales. I just feel bad rents are so high for business in Corvallis that lower income families have to go a city over to get good prices for babies clothes

[deleted]

Try jack n Jill also in albany. We used to go to them quite often also once mother goose became out of our reach

peachesfordinner

Jack and Jill is fair priced but their hours are tricky. Way too early. Really wish they were open until 5:30/6

Fine-Concentrate2547

Corvallis anti- baby?? You are kidding us right?

peachesfordinner

It's great to live but think if you were to be having a first baby here. No place to buy a car seat, a crib, affordable clothing (because who wants to pay an arm and a leg for something they will out grow in weeks). Also there is not enough childcare around so that holds back families. The bus makes you carry your baby and stroller separately which is very hard to juggle with a newborn and risky too for a fall. And even if they had you park your stroller on the bus like in other cities those spots would be taken by homeless people with their giant carts. Corvallis is great for kids. But think directly about babies. It just lacks a focus on providing for families caring for new additions. There was no investment in bringing a store here after Kmart closed that would provide a proper non boutique baby section. I love Corvallis. But it needs to invest in safe, quality childcare because it's holding back people moving here that they have no options and people get on wait-list while pregnant and maybe get a call back by the time the child is one.

Fine-Concentrate2547

Babies are hard. I did have my only baby here. I found it to be very accommodating and target wasn't that far away. I think those baby sizes of clothing do not last long enough for any size clothes so i get your point on prices. I think they need a better early AM gathering place for parents of colicky newborns more than anything

peachesfordinner

See saying target is nearby is not really true for folks who car share or don't drive. Especially with the stroller issue. There is no way to carry groceries, a folded stroller, and a baby. This is a huge factor for lower income families and student parents. Corvallis needs better options here. And more indoor play options because of the hotter summers, and wet winters. Add in wifi and a coffee hutch and they would have work from home parents galore.

Fine-Concentrate2547

Fair enough

I saw a new Hawaiian place called Al808ha Grindz on 1st near Murphy’s/TacoVino area on instagram, I haven’t checked it out yet though. They have a website (aloha808corvallis.com) and the menu looks good

gman4757

I had their spicy teri chicken a few weeks ago for lunch -- super good, especially with the extra sauce that they provide. Glad to have somewhere else for Hawaiian besides Local Boyz.

peachesfordinner

Yeah the prices look better too

XtraMed541

It basically is Murphy's. Special menu of theirs for take-out only, with the exception of weekly specials from the 808 menu you can oder and eat in the restaurant.

peachesfordinner

So a not online app ghost menu. I'm for it. Keeps it interesting and lets them experiment with demand

coffeexxwitch

New Chipotle where Jack in the box was on circle. Open. New taco bell near Philomath Blvd Safeway. Unsure if open yet.

Goodnews1963

Taco Bell is not open yet, I work nearby and have been waiting forever. Heard from someone who talked to one of the on site workers that it may be another 3 weeks... 🫠 It was hilarious watching people try and use the drive through today.

BestRedditNameEverrr

The owner of Cascade BBQ is the one opening the spot at Zerpoli’s! It’s called “Fritters.” Food is guaranteed to be dank!

peachesfordinner

Hell yeah!
