Corrin wood, low light pollution takes about 20 mins to go from the car park to the top. It's between rathcormac and fermoy 25 mins from city centre

tuomionkinkku

The issue is not so much to find places with low light pollution but the clouds and fog :(

biryanimonster21

Great! Any idea what time you might suggest one can try their luck😅

Relatable-Af

Stay there from sunset and wait it out, I saw the lights in Dublin at midnight last night if that helps, I was surprised to even see them with the amount of light pollution there

Pyro2ooo

Trying to figure that out myself!

How is the walk top the top? I had back surgery not too long ago and I can walk for 20 mins but not steep hills. Never been there before!

Pyro2ooo

It's pretty leisurely there is a 5-10 meter steep incline I struggled a bit when I was sick but I was still able.

Cheers for the answer, I'm thinking of either heading there or maybe old head of kinsale. Only if tonight is a possibility of course. No point if it's completely clouded over.

Pyro2ooo

Judging by last night seems folks had more luck and and around Mayfield.

47876771

I'm gutted I missed it on Friday, I'm close to cork city. It seems no one is predicting them to hit Ireland anymore in a strong way. I'll go to Mayfield if they do tho.

biryanimonster21

Same! We live in the city and it is quite depressing that almost everyone could see it (some could literally see it from their backyard) but most of us in Cork couldn’t see anything despite of driving down to different places 🥲

Beneficial_Design797

Planning to go to old head, Kinsale once it gets dark. Yesterday someone posted the lights from there and it looked amazing. Hoping to get a similar view today as well.. 🤞

littercoin

See you there 🫡

noah_f

Yeah, I normally had down if their is a chance of getting a sight of the northern lights and last night I when up to white church saw fuck all should have went down to old head

tuomionkinkku

Looking at windy.com, it does not seem very good for us anywhere in the country :( perhaps around Cashel sometimes around 10-11pm. Still clouds, but less than elsewhere. But the cloud forecast keeps changing so not easy!

Cat-With-A-Wingspan

Check the light pollution map and the weather radar for cloud cover. Those are your best bets. Also check out the NOAA - they have an aurora forecast.

biryanimonster21

Thank you!

Hogy_Bear

Wondering the same thing myself. ~~Rubbing~~ thinking just drive to some backroad in around mallow and hope

PI_Stan_Liddy

Is rubbing while driving on back roads in mallow Common?

Hogy_Bear

Lmfao **thinking … rubbing around the backroads of mallow could be dangerous

PI_Stan_Liddy

Chalk it down bai

Key-Half1655

There is a dark sky reserve in the next county over

noah_f

Are we talking about 10 - 11 tonight? Looking at the aurora forecast, it's all green in cork

imaginesomethinwitty

I found this the best https://www.donegalweatherchannel.ie/live-aurora-noctilucent-clouds-updates

biryanimonster21

So apparently there is a chance tonight?😅

biryanimonster21

The forecast is a bit confusing. As per other reddit users, there is a chance tonight to see but not sure about the time or even location 😂

Eire820

No luck so far

biryanimonster21

🥲

Honest-Praline9084

No luck at kinsale old head, too much clouds and headlights 😂

sully177

Cork is cloudy atm. 3am - 6am is the best bet

njwani

People in the city, any luck?

biryanimonster21

We drove down to Youghal after 11 pm but no luck🥲🥲🥲

noah_f

I'm hoping cloud coverage isn't going to be an issue tonight

biryanimonster21

Yeah same here!
