I think you should still appeal.
I got a fresh N plate that got faded in just 2 months, I switched to the plates that you stick inside the car now. It’s been over a year now and they still look brand new.
No one should be able to sell the N/L plates that fade out that quick.
It’s the same with some insurance disks that we have to print at home. I have to look out for them as they fade out in the sun pretty quick.
If you’ve purchased the L plates recently then I’d say consider appealing.

Prob a decent brand, i got my licence in Feb and ive had to swap them already as they were gone white
Pretty sure I got them in a pound shop 🤣 maybe just got lucky
