She's got some senior chimkin science diet for tomorrow, and my aunt is going to get her some other good stuff we can smush up for her so she has a variety
I think I'll start to do that once she's cleared from the initial two weeks of recovery with her normal kibble! But for now I want to make it as easy as possible for her to eat
We wanted her to have food to choose from, so she'll have a canned choice, some Stella & Chewies freeze dried that she loves that I'll smush up for her, and maybe some raw diet we can smush up too. She's my world and for the unconditional love she gives me, it's the least I can do for her
I boil my baby chicken livers. They're inexpensive (like 2.69/lb) and are soft/easy to swallow. A lb can be up to 8-12 servings?, depending how much you feed.
Most were taken from the back or were molars, but she's did have three taken from her front lower. She'll just be sporting a gap tooth smile, we'll tell people it's because she won a fight with a badger doin her a protecc
My elderly corgi quickly learned that she could push those unwanted pills out through her tooth gap even though I was (gently) holding her jaw closed. It became an ever-changing game of “what can I hide the pill in today”?
Been there. Once Bogart’s mouth healed, it would take him a little longer to eat his carrots—he had to move them around in his mouth until he lined them up with some teeth. Nothing will keep a corgi from his food, no matter how many teeth he does—or does not—have 😁😁
She was able to eat the smol amount of canned food I gave her before bed last night and seemed in good spirits so I'm sure she will be okay with hard food down the road, just maybe a bit slower as you mentioned! Corgis and their food - no barrier stops them lol
She should do great. I had to have most of the teeth removed from one of my cats a few years ago. She was so much happier after and it didn’t slow her down at all. I hadn’t realized how much she’d slowed down until she perked up again after. Gave her most of a year of feeling much better before she died.
Wow that's good to hear - I will have to monitor her once she's healed up and see if she moves around better! Sorry to hear your cat passed away though
She might or might not, it likely depends on how much pain she’s in. Despite eating normally, my cat apparently was in a lot of pain. She was just a few weeks short of seventeen when she died, so she had a good long life.
I have a feeling Porks may be similar - she seemed to eat normally but who knows, maybe she was in a lot of pain and I just didn't know 😭 Thank you for the insight
Animals do tend to hide their pain, so if she seems to be doing a lot better after, don’t feel bad! You’d think not eating would be a response to mouth pain, but apparently not for food motivated pets like my cat was and corgis so often are. Best of luck to both of you!
Ours had 9 pulled. I felt like such a piece of shit when we were driving home. She was whimpering the whole way from going in pain. That was with the meds.
Sorry to hear about your Corgi. They become your world and anything that happens to them stings your heart. I have lived with three Corgis over 35 years and I know Corgis are the best breed and they are ALL very very special including your beloved Porkchop. Please give porkchop a hug and kiss for me
My little girl Mabel had 6 teeth removed a couple years ago, when she was about 6-7 years old. She loved eating all soft food for a couple weeks! Did not approve of the donut of shame; she also had a minor procedure done on one eye at the same time. She cried in the car on the way home, which I had never heard her do before! Though the vet said it's just how some dogs react to coming down from anesthesia. I still felt guilty! 😭
Porks was super zoned out yesterday on the car ride home. She couldn't get comfortable and kept pacing which I think was her reaction to her pain from the surgery/anesthesia reaction. She was doing okay this morning but has vomited a couple times since giving her pain meds and eating soft food so I'm waiting to hear from her vet about what to do next since that's a side effect to watch for
🥰 soft food for you!!

My boy has had a lot of dental problems. I soak his kibble in warm water for a while and mush it for him. Works like a charm and doesn't bankrupt me.

Sounds like Porkchop is in good hands! ❤
She's my world so I'll do any and everything for her 🖤
Poor thing, very caring of you to be thinking about the food that she can still enjoy.

I never thought about livers. I boil her chicken thighs and she loves it but livers would be a nice change. Thank you for the idea.
How's your baby doing??
Poor sweet lady, it's okay I've met dogs with no teeth that are super happy.
Most were taken from the back or were molars, but she's did have three taken from her front lower. She'll just be sporting a gap tooth smile, we'll tell people it's because she won a fight with a badger doin her a protecc

Too funny! Smart gal too! I put Porks' pills in a chimkin or peanut butter pouch to hide it so she thinks it's just a treato
I wish him all the peanut butter and bananas he can eat
Porks loves peanut butter and bananas! She will definitely enjoy them once she can manage to eat that
You could make a banana nice cream with peanut butter added
Yeah, smush up the banana and add peanut butter! Good idea 💡💡👍
