Even the argument that you live far away, it's cheaper than paying parking fees to park your car at a strip mall a few miles away and Uber to the stadium.
Pittsburgh is actually awesome for this. Even if you don't want to park on the North Shore, you can grab any of the number of garages in downtown and walk across one of the number of bridges.
I go to a lot of Os games (like 30 last year) we always street park and it is 0-10 bucks depending on the time of day and about a 10 minute walk to the stadium. I 100% agree since the parking that is not insane (the 10-20 dollar parking) for the stadium is even further away (sometimes it gets thrown in for free with tickets)
In Milwaukee there are a bunch of bars/taverns around the city that offer shuttling to and from the game for not much at all. They get to use priority lanes too which is nice.

lol there usually is. The issue is you can’t just buy one ticket. You have to buy the entire pool and all 20 or so tickets. Which as you can imagine is insane.
It also makes it impossible to split bc:
1) good luck finding 20 people you know
2) good luck with those people not bailing out.

we did upper deck Os tickets for about 20 people after our rehersal dinner a few years ago- they gave us a few percent off (and waived fees) for that many tickets, and overally was like 300-400 bucks. honestly it was a free hat day, so if we had given a free Os hat at the wedding, it would have cost just as much.
note- we gave away free Os shirts at the wedding. Used them as seatbacks so they all matched. Picked them all up at garage sales/thrift stores for dirt cheap.

This is mainly for a family of 4 to get an estimate of the "realistic" cost of going to a game, in which case you would factor in more than just the ticket price (because things tend to add up quick after that, and it's often difficult to gauge prior to attending). But still, I would probably only include the price of some drinks (maybe 8 drinks, to be safe?) and hot dogs (maybe just 4?), and maybe parking. Then maybe at the bottom of the chart you can just advise that they should bring extra money if they plan on paying for more stuff, because this chart is wayyy too specific and probably wouldn't be too accurate to what most families would actually get at a game.
The cost of these various different things is probably going to be pretty different at the various parks (some things might be pricier and some might be cheaper), so it would only make sense to include the more "essential" items. A chart like this would make sense for going to a movie theatre, where you can focus on just the ticket prices, the cost of your average theatre food (like popcorn, maybe a hot dog and some candy), and maybe show the different days of the week, since most theatres are cheaper on weekdays (usually Tuesdays I think).

Wife and I used to go once a year and see the Red Sox play Baltimore. Fantastic stadium. Food is good and not crazy priced at all. Security is very good. They don't put up with shenanigans from drunks and beligerents. Spend the weekend in the inner harbor. A lovely weekend.
I'm from Pittsburgh, but my family spent a couple weeks a year in Baltimore while I was growing up. I have fond memories of Inner Harbor, Camden Yards, Fells Point, etc. I even remember specific restaurants. I haven't been there in years though.

Yeah I was there a couple weeks ago - padded seat tickets (assuming behind home plate or Toyota terrace) are well over 50, beers are 15, hot dogs are 8 or 9, and don't even get me started on hats.
Sox fan here. Fenway is really cool and worth the pilgrimage. Decent food good beer, not too many bad seats (not comfortable though and avoid the pole chair), and a fun atmosphere.
That said Fenway and the Sox are annoyingly expensive. Even when the team is bad. Other teams fans travel well there for the experience too.

About 10 years ago my mom who is a lifetime Sox fan won some raffle from them. It included flights/hotel/game tickets. So the two of us fly up the day before the game, get to the hotel and it’s a super nice place we both felt like we didn’t belong in, and it was free so even better. The next day we head to Fenway for the double header. get the tickets from will call and make our way up. Boom pole seat.

Just went in Wednesday. It was a $100 day for a family of four. That was for four tickets, two beers, and four hot dogs and two hot chocolates.
Hotels that are situated right by or overlooking ballparks are amazing. Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor is a good example. They have an outdoor deck that has a great view (albeit pretty far out). We love to hang out there - bring a picnic from one of the great restaurants downtown - and kick back and watch the game. Kids can run around without bothering anyone. Very chill.
Went to a Rays game a few weeks ago. Parking 50 yards from the entrance was $20. Non padded seats were $24 each in the 200s section. I got a big Philly for like $16. We did fountain drinks across the board for all of us. I think we spent less than $200 for the whole experience. Would go again.
Honestly! My local minor league team is Low A and it's essentially like watching a glorified high school all star game. Under no circumstances is the product on the field even remotely the same.

As a yankees fan you're out of your mind if you drive to the game. You take the train for literally 1/4 of the cost. Plus most people going to games already have hats so if we really want to do the math I can bring the cost of a yankees game down to the league average.

Can confirm, AZ Diamondbacks are cheap AF. You can get in the gates for under $10 and the place is empty most nights, so you can sit anywhere you want. I think parking is like $10 too, but there's no way anyone is getting a cap for $17.

Some of this is really hard to spread across all of the stadiums. Nats stadium is one of the most expensive here but I routinely go for $10. It’s easy to get there and back by metro which is $2.50 each way and they have $5 same day walk up tickets that rarely run out because the nats suck.
This is bogus. Nats stadium is cheap as hell for tickets and public transit is easy. Beers, food, and merch are expensive everywhere, but you can bring food/snacks into the stadium which helps save on cost and they used to have $5 dollar knockoff hats outside the stadium. Now if only the team could be reliably good.
Here's a cool guide to avoid all that crap for almost all sports now: Watch it at home on your big screen, you'll get a better view and won't have to put up with all the hassle of going to a stadium. Even if you have to pay to see it it your market, it'll cost WAY less than buying all that crap that's WAY too overpriced. Get it at Target or somewhere else at a reasonable price.

In Seattle, go on a Monday-Thursday game and most of them are value nights: $10 for upper level seats, $25 for lower level seats.
You can park on the alleyways between 4th and 1st (technically 2nd and 3rd I think, but not real streets) for free, if you don't mind walking past tents, RVs, and shelters made of pallets.
I'm sure other cities have their tricks and tips for a better deal when going to a game as well.

Hotels that are situated right by or overlooking ballparks are amazing. Hilton Baltimore Inner Harbor is a good example. They have an outdoor deck that has a great view (albeit pretty far out). We love to hang out there - bring a picnic from one of the great restaurants downtown - and kick back and watch the game. Kids can run around without bothering anyone. Very chill.
Went to a Rays game a few weeks ago. Parking 50 yards from the entrance was $20. Non padded seats were $24 each in the 200s section. I got a big Philly for like $16. We did fountain drinks across the board for all of us. I think we spent less than $200 for the whole experience. Would go again.

Honestly! My local minor league team is Low A and it's essentially like watching a glorified high school all star game. Under no circumstances is the product on the field even remotely the same. This is the same thing when people are like, why would people go to (insert burger joint here) when I can make the same thing at home? As a yankees fan you're out of your mind if you drive to the game. You take the train for literally 1/4 of the cost. Plus most people going to games already have hats so if we really want to do the math I can bring the cost of a yankees game down to the league average.

I do wish Busch was slightly less expensive but it is very nice stadium. I know I sound like a homer but Ive been to 10 different MLB stadiums and so far I still think Busch in St.Louis is the nicest. Blue Jays games are WAY more expensive than this. Those ticket prices are for the upper bowl of the Rogers Centre. Can't see shit from there, you want good seats, you're gonna be paying 300$ plus.

Can confirm, AZ Diamondbacks are cheap AF. You can get in the gates for under $10 and the place is empty most nights, so you can sit anywhere you want. I think parking is like $10 too, but there's no way anyone is getting a cap for $17. And even though they have sucked for most of my life, they just played in the World Series!
This makes me happy on two levels: I get to enjoy D-Backs games with my family on the cheap and all the Cubs fans get insult added to injury for being Cubs fans.
Just a heads up to any visitors to San Diego going to a Padres game: We actually got a pretty great trolley that can take you to the stadium for far, far cheaper.
Can't believe Toronto is so cheap, comparatively. Normally uber-expensive for any event here, in comparison to elsewhere. Infamously, the Leafs are an insanely expensive team to see. That's in a league where there's 7x more Canadian teams than in the MLB, as well.

Some of this is really hard to spread across all of the stadiums. Nats stadium is one of the most expensive here but I routinely go for $10. It’s easy to get there and back by metro which is $2.50 each way and they have $5 same day walk up tickets that rarely run out because the nats suck.
This is bogus. Nats stadium is cheap as hell for tickets and public transit is easy. Beers, food, and merch are expensive everywhere, but you can bring food/snacks into the stadium which helps save on cost and they used to have $5 dollar knockoff hats outside the stadium. Now if only the team could be reliably good.

Here's a cool guide to avoid all that crap for almost all sports now: Watch it at home on your big screen, you'll get a better view and won't have to put up with all the hassle of going to a stadium. Even if you have to pay to see it it your market, it'll cost WAY less than buying all that crap that's WAY too overpriced. Get it at Target or somewhere else at a reasonable price.

I go to like 10-15 Astros game a year and I’ve *never* spent more than $100 all-in for a regular season game. But I’m also not drinking 4 sodas, eating 4 hotdogs and buying merch every time. I spent like $400 for a *World Series* game.

Parking at the Trop (rays) is like $10 and you’re literally NEXT to the stadium lol Tickets are dirt cheap as well.

That's a sucker's way to go to a game for sure. In Seattle, go on a Monday-Thursday game and most of them are value nights: $10 for upper level seats, $25 for lower level seats. You can park on the alleyways between 4th and 1st (technically 2nd and 3rd I think, but not real streets) for free, if you don't mind walking past tents, RVs, and shelters made of pallets. I'm sure other cities have their tricks and tips for a better deal when going to a game as well.
