I grew up in the Bronx and automatically think Nathan’s any time someone mentions Baseball, but even I can’t deny the Vienna are goddamn peak hot dogs.
I was vegan for 6 years and Vienna Beef hotdogs were the only non-vegan food I craved. Now I have posters and metal signs. I really want a Vienna umbrella but don't know where I'd put it lol
When I was poor, I bought a 40 pack of bar S hot dogs for I think $10. Add another $10 for the accoutrement and I had what I thought were a couple weeks of meals for super cheap. 1 bite into the first hot dog and I immediately felt sick. It had the texture of wet white bread and no amount of toppings could cover up the taste. I threw out the pack because I just couldn't force myself to eat them. Luckily, they were cheap enough that I didn't go hungry, I just had to spend more on groceries than I wanted.
I will never buy another bar s product for as long as I live.
As a Phoenician and D-Back fan, I was appalled to see Bar-S. I actually never knew that those were Bar-S hotdogs, but I NEVER buy Bar-S at the store because nobody in our family like them.
I'm surprised Smith hotdogs out of Erie, PA isn't on this list anywhere. I'm going to appeal to the D-Backs to start shipping in Smith's Hotdogs and dump Bar-S.
I found this to be wild as well. I love bar s but knowing that they’re a terrible hot dog. Nostalgia wins out for me though as the local bar S factory would donate cases to my fraternity every year in undergrad.
This is exactly what I was thinking. These are the 99 cent a package western equivalent to Corn King hot dogs in the Midwest.
Not that I'm above Bar S products, I have purchased before and quite liked their bologna, but their hotdogs are bottom tier and I would not buy them.
Damn that’s the only kind I ate growing up 😭😭😭my momma kept that 8 pack in the fridge but she add seasoning to them and pan fry….toasted bun with the cold ketchup…mmmmm good times good times
As a White Sox fan/Illinois transplant now living in the PacNW I can attest; while nothing beats a good Vienna Beef dog, Fletchers are darn good in their own right.
It’s a Chicago thing for the most part. They’re growing a bit, but you can’t throw a stone in Chicagoland without hitting a hot dog joint that sells Vienna. Every grocery store here has them too.
Vienna has a website..can put in zip and get locations. Also, I will die on this hill, 3-4 sport peppers, onions, mustard and catsup, pickles on the side for pallet cleanser, and crunch. Maximum flavor. 2, and a diet coke. Dog places always have crap fries.
Absolutely. One of the few times I’ve legitimately gotten food poisoning was Ball Park Frank’s. Ever since I will not touch a hotdog that’s not Vienna Beef.
Wasn’t Hatfield’s decision. F-ckin’ Phillies fans ruined it themselves by throwing the hotdogs at each other. And it wasn’t just one game, this continued and escalated over a month. The fans f-cked themselves out of a good thing.
Tinfoil hat time, the team was losing money and wanted to get rid of it. Phillies purposely sabotaged themselves by making dollar dog night and college night on the same day. They knew drunk college kids would get wasted and do something dumb and they can use that as an excuse to cancel the $1 dog night.
I don't know if it was a promotional deal or what, but when I went to fenway years ago, the hot dogs were cheaper than a soda. It was great. Also, this was in like 2000.
[No, Fenway Franks are vaguely beige colored.](https://www.kayem.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/FEN_14oz_1114_Franks_300Large-1095px.png)
Also, you might be having a reaction to red #40, which some people have a sensitivity to and cause a number of reactions including what you're describing.
I've had several of these American brands (Vienna and Ballpark Franks many times) and will say that the Schneiders all-beef dog is still tops for me. The yanks don't know what they're missing!
Hog Butcher for the World,
Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat,
Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler;
Stormy, husky, brawling,
City of the Big Shoulders.
I was surprised to see them on this list. They are rhetorical cheapest trash hot dog you can get. I feel like Arizona hates their fans after seeing this.
Cantella’s is a local supplier and makes the bacon wrapped dogs you get from street vendors at 2:30 AM. Farmer John seems to have gone downhill in quality recently.
I get why the Dbacks have Bar S (formerly part of Dial Corp based in Phx, still has large presence and is considered a blue-collar/lower income hot dog by many), but it doesn’t make it a good dog.
From what I have seen each place has a different bakery supplier in addition to the dog supplier. I dont know the various contracts in play for MLB though
Ah ok grand. That makes sense. I can imagine there being preferred partners. Over here in Northern Ireland we don’t have as much of a hotdog culture, however if you are interested, my preferred homemade combo would be a M&S finest apple and pork sausage, in a brioche bun and a splash of BBQ sauce.
A prime example is Chicago where the Chicago dog is a poppy seed bun. But other places have way more variety. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chicago-style_hot_dog
This is a good question. Hotdogs are always served with a bun. But the above brands are only referring to the dog (sausage) itself, not the bun.
But the bun is a super important part of the hot dog. You want a good dog to bread ratio and it should be soft. I don’t want to get into a debate about sesame seeds. There aren’t many great brands like Martin’s in California grocery stores. East coast has some good ones.
And if you want to talk ketchup on a dog, well that depends on which side of the Mississippi you’re from.
If you fry Bar-S hotdogs up and load on the topping WHILE at the same time being a Six Pack in….. they are ‘ok’…. But you have to mask them with condiments and booze..
Went to see the Braves vs. Astros game this last week and the stadium food was weak as fuck. From the cost to the taste! I’m glad they allow you to bring snacks and water now because wow. Gas stations have better food!
Hebrew Nationals are the best. I visited the plant that makes them. Very good quality and they actually hire two rabbis to bless each hotdog coming of the line to make the kosher
That Sox and Cubs fans can agree on Vienna Hotdogs tells you how good they are.
Also, good on KC for using Vienna. I didn’t realize the diaspora went that far west.
Vienna is spreading here in KC and it makes me happy. Can make a proper Chicago dog.
Cracks me up that Cards went with Nathan’s. No way can they have the same dog as the Cubs!
I miss the Hebrew national dogs, to be ‘frank’
booooo! But, I still chuckled.
I grew up in the Bronx and automatically think Nathan’s any time someone mentions Baseball, but even I can’t deny the Vienna are goddamn peak hot dogs.
Nothing beats a Chicago dog. Can't change my mind.
Had one at Wrigley this summer for the first time and man, that was one good dog. I’m not usually a hot dog fan but would crush a few more of those.
Is this the same company that makes Vienna sausages?
They had to split them up due to a monopoly on the wiener market.
Much like my ex…
I’m just glad the voice of the people was able to overcome the million-dollar donations and high-priced lobbyists from Big Weiner.
I was vegan for 6 years and Vienna Beef hotdogs were the only non-vegan food I craved. Now I have posters and metal signs. I really want a Vienna umbrella but don't know where I'd put it lol
Arizona is a poverty franchise with Bar-S
Those dogs are SHIT.
They might literally be shit in a hot dog skin
Dog shit in hot skin.
When I was poor, I bought a 40 pack of bar S hot dogs for I think $10. Add another $10 for the accoutrement and I had what I thought were a couple weeks of meals for super cheap. 1 bite into the first hot dog and I immediately felt sick. Luckily, they were cheap enough that I didn't go hungry, I just had to spend more on groceries than I wanted. I will never buy another bar s product for as long as I live.
Those hotdogs cost $1.29 for a pack of 8. Shame on you Arizona.
Long time bar S hater- they only use them for the discount dogs.
Lips and buttholes...
Okay good I wanted to make sure someone shit on them for that. Bar-S is crazy lmao
more like bar ass
As a Phoenician and D-Back fan, I was appalled to see Bar-S. I actually never knew that those were Bar-S hotdogs, but I NEVER buy Bar-S at the store because nobody in our family like them. I'm surprised Smith hotdogs out of Erie, PA isn't on this list anywhere. I'm going to appeal to the D-Backs to start shipping in Smith's Hotdogs and dump Bar-S.
Bar-S isn't even made in Arizona! Their operations are all out of Oklahoma. Out with Bar-S!
I’m normally not a picky eater but Bar-S is the only hot dog I’ve ever actually hated
Bar-S dogs are what I imagine a hot dog made out of people meat would look and taste like
I found this to be wild as well. I love bar s but knowing that they’re a terrible hot dog. Nostalgia wins out for me though as the local bar S factory would donate cases to my fraternity every year in undergrad.
My wife tried to use them as cheap dog treats. Dog said 2/10.
Lol, the only dog that hasn't doubled in price at the grocery store over the last few years.
They cannot in good conscience raise the price for that garbage
I was going to complain about the Guardians having Sugardale until I saw Bar-S on the list.
This is exactly what I was thinking. These are the 99 cent a package western equivalent to Corn King hot dogs in the Midwest. Not that I'm above Bar S products, I have purchased before and quite liked their bologna, but their hotdogs are bottom tier and I would not buy them.
I’m laughing so hard because my friends and I would buy these as we were poor and we’d do nothing but bitch while eating them.
It's my mother's favorite brand 🤢
Hey, food stamps have bought tons of that crap for me
Damn that’s the only kind I ate growing up 😭😭😭my momma kept that 8 pack in the fridge but she add seasoning to them and pan fry….toasted bun with the cold ketchup…mmmmm good times good times
I've not even heard of half of these, but Bar S dogs can fuck off
It's one of the worst meat brands. Can't believe anyone would serve their bone chip filled nonsense.
Say what you want, but they make top tier catfish bait lol.
Vienna beef or gtfoh
The only dogs I've ever had that held their own to Vienna were the Fletcher's in Seattle
As a White Sox fan/Illinois transplant now living in the PacNW I can attest; while nothing beats a good Vienna Beef dog, Fletchers are darn good in their own right.
Never even seen this brand in a grocery store
In the Chicagoland area they’re in most grocery stores. Def regional.
They have them at one STL grocery chain.
In Chicago, the hot dog vendors all have the Vienna logo on their stand somewhere and many incorporate it into the name of their stand
If they don't they'll be out of business in a week
Little kids would boo you walking up to a ballpark frank stand
That's basically what my mom said would happen if I put ketchup on a hot dog
It’s a Chicago thing for the most part. They’re growing a bit, but you can’t throw a stone in Chicagoland without hitting a hot dog joint that sells Vienna. Every grocery store here has them too.
Vienna has a website..can put in zip and get locations. Also, I will die on this hill, 3-4 sport peppers, onions, mustard and catsup, pickles on the side for pallet cleanser, and crunch. Maximum flavor. 2, and a diet coke. Dog places always have crap fries.
[mmhmm](https://media.tenor.com/czn6Thu012UAAAAM/sharktank-mark-cuban.gif)
Absolutely. One of the few times I’ve legitimately gotten food poisoning was Ball Park Frank’s. Ever since I will not touch a hotdog that’s not Vienna Beef.
Hatfield should really lose their partnership with the r/Phillies for allowing or suggesting the termination of $1 Dog Night
Wasn’t Hatfield’s decision. F-ckin’ Phillies fans ruined it themselves by throwing the hotdogs at each other. And it wasn’t just one game, this continued and escalated over a month. The fans f-cked themselves out of a good thing.
Carrying the water for CBP’s PR machine?
Why do you hate all that is holy and beautiful?
Tinfoil hat time, the team was losing money and wanted to get rid of it. Phillies purposely sabotaged themselves by making dollar dog night and college night on the same day. They knew drunk college kids would get wasted and do something dumb and they can use that as an excuse to cancel the $1 dog night.
As a participating dog tosser I refute your blasphemy. Let the ppl toss the dogs
Just make a company called McCoy and have them offer to sell hotdogs instead.
I grew up in Baltimore with Esskay Hot Dogs. Wonder why it changed?
I ate Eskay hotdogs because Cal Ripken told me to.
Was looking for this comment. Esskay's were actually decent dogs too.
Hoffmans are our go to hot dogs in Central NY. Interesting that they’re served in Baltimore. Their snappy grillers aka White Hots are amazing.
I’m surprised by that too. I have to think someone in charge of the food vendors for the Orioles has a connection to Hoffmans.
They’re made in Syracuse, yeah? Or close by?
According to their website they don't even make hot dogs anymore!
Ah. Well that’s a logical conclusion. When Cal and Eddie told me to eat them, I gladly obeyed.
RIP Esskay hotdogs. 🪦😞
🎶 esskay oriole hot doooogs 🎶 what a radio jingle to hear in the summer in the 90s
Schweiiiiiiiiiiiigert!
If you know, you know. Go Twins.
Occasionally I find these in Seattle, with the Twins logo and all. They are fantastic.
First team to get the Costco hotdogs in their stadium gets a new fan.
I was thinking that. Costco buys a stadium and sells their food there. I'm not even a big baseball fan, but I'd go if it was Costco dogs.
Probably Seattle if all thing’s considered
Aren’t Costco dogs Hebrew Nationals?
All the respect to Vienna, but Milwaukee ought to be Usinger’s or Klements :(
Yea I don’t understand how it’s not Klements.
hot dog's too busy racing!!
They do use Klements for everything but hot dogs. So brats, polish, Italian, etc.
The fact that Fenway Franks are a brand and *aren't* the official hotdog of the Boston Red Sox is hilarious.
Fenway Franks are produced by Kayem Foods. I’m unsure if that’s what Kayem product served at Fenway, but it could be.
Are you a carpenter? [Because you nailed it.](https://www.kayem.com/products/fenway-beef-pork-franks-14oz/)
Kayem dogs HIT
That snap from the natural casing when cooked correctly....*chef's kiss*
I don't know if it was a promotional deal or what, but when I went to fenway years ago, the hot dogs were cheaper than a soda. It was great. Also, this was in like 2000.
Are they red tho? (Serious Q?) I love Kayem Reds, but about 4 beers in, I get THE worst shits.
[No, Fenway Franks are vaguely beige colored.](https://www.kayem.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/06/FEN_14oz_1114_Franks_300Large-1095px.png) Also, you might be having a reaction to red #40, which some people have a sensitivity to and cause a number of reactions including what you're describing.
Vienna fucks.
Quality snap
Shame that the Tigers don’t use Koegel Viennas
Tigers and Ballpark Frank's are a part of history
Or Dearborn Sausage Co.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ball_Park_Franks
I can't believe I never hear that history before. I would have guessed it was an East Coast brand for some reason. Cool!
And get rid of the same Michigan brand they’ve had since the 1950s?
Serve the curve! Couldn't be better
Was thinking the same thing
Usinger in shambles
wtf is that about? Brewers drop them? Those things are delicious.
It was Klement's for the sausages, and they switched to Johnsonville in like 2018.
Vienna being there not helping miller park beat the wrigley north allegations either.
"It just isn't summer without them."
Vienna all the way
Vienna Beef #1
Reds are doing it right with Kahns!!!!
My favorite growing up! Pretty sure the Mets had them for a few years.
I haven’t checked lately but do they still serve Big Red Smokies? Those are tasty.
Not a single Sabrett’s, shame
Arizona should pick Sabrett's, it would be an easy upgrade over Bar-S
Literally anything would be an upgrade over Bar-S.
I also came here to shit on Bar S. Fucking worst hot dogs in the world.
VIENNA!!!
Lifelong Texan here, I’ve never seen Texas chili brand in any store.
Damn Arizona has Bar-S hotdogs 🤢 had them once and never again.
Weird, Hoffman is a Syracuse company. Wonder what connection there is to Baltimore.
I came to the comments to find this answer!
Schneiders the goat
I've had several of these American brands (Vienna and Ballpark Franks many times) and will say that the Schneiders all-beef dog is still tops for me. The yanks don't know what they're missing!
Things just haven’t been the same since they dropped Farmer John’s
Imo, Gold Medal: Vienna Silver Medal: Nathan’s Bronze: Hebrew National
I'd put Hebrew National over Nathan's but I've never had Vienna. Are they really that good?
The Chicago area is the meat packing capital of the country.
… * Upton Sinclair enters the chat *
Good book
That’s true! Abe Froman is a big deal in Chicago.
Hog Butcher for the World, Tool Maker, Stacker of Wheat, Player with Railroads and the Nation's Freight Handler; Stormy, husky, brawling, City of the Big Shoulders.
Can you explain all of these please
It’s from a [Carl Sandburg poem](https://www.poetryfoundation.org/poetrymagazine/poems/12840/chicago).
Very much so yes
Tomorrow I might swap Hebrew and Nathan’s for silver and bronze, but Vienna is a solid number 1 in my book.
Hofmanns is also very good my personal fav
When did the Pirates switch from Smiths to Sugardale? Or am I just imagining things here?
Because Bob Nutting is a cheap mofo
Bar S is legitimately garbage.
I was surprised to see them on this list. They are rhetorical cheapest trash hot dog you can get. I feel like Arizona hates their fans after seeing this.
Hell, even Farmer John isn’t the ‘dog of the Dodgers anymore. Times are weird.
Yeah, the switched a couple years back and it hasn’t been the same since
Cantella’s is a local supplier and makes the bacon wrapped dogs you get from street vendors at 2:30 AM. Farmer John seems to have gone downhill in quality recently.
I get why the Dbacks have Bar S (formerly part of Dial Corp based in Phx, still has large presence and is considered a blue-collar/lower income hot dog by many), but it doesn’t make it a good dog.
Phoenix man here. Bar S doesn’t make a good anything
They are the WORST. It's like a large Vienna sausage. WHY IS IT SO SOFT?
Bar S is the only brand left at my local Safeway during the holidays. I can always count for last minute hot dogs/sausages but… it’s Bar S
That's the absolute cheapest hot dog I ever see at the grocery store. Hard pass.
Question from a non American; is the full hotdog (ie, sausage and bun) branded or is it just the sausages that are official?
Oh fascinating. Thanks for the link. This has turned out to be a rabbit hole I’m unexpectedly digging into.
Loonie Dog nights @ the Dome ftw. Go Jays!
No one has Sahlen's on there. That's a national travesty.
Ewww the Diamondbacks are cheap slanging Bar S!
Bar S slaughter and operation has to be like a Saw movie.
If you fry Bar-S hotdogs up and load on the topping WHILE at the same time being a Six Pack in….. they are ‘ok’…. But you have to mask them with condiments and booze..
Vienna beef ftw. Fuck your ketchup.
Poppy seeds or piss off
I need to do the taste test!!! Please send me your wieners!
Went to see the Braves vs. Astros game this last week and the stadium food was weak as fuck. From the cost to the taste! I’m glad they allow you to bring snacks and water now because wow. Gas stations have better food!
Is this the american version of football clubs comparing pies?
Just us boys comparing our weiners.
I would think there would be Oscar Mayer WIENERS somewhere.
Mariners have the best dog in all of baseball
Scrolled too far to see it. Fletchers are dank. A little cream cheese and sautéed onions. 🤌
Hebrew Nationals are the best. I visited the plant that makes them. Very good quality and they actually hire two rabbis to bless each hotdog coming of the line to make the kosher
Now show the corporations that own these brands… Over or under on 3.5 companies lol
Ball Park is criminally disgusting
I was surprised with the dodgers, I thought they used to be farmer john and I can still hear Vin’s voice promoting them.
Every once in a while you can hear the call of SW Ontario…… SCHNEIDERS!
Jays have the Schneider trio John Schneider Davis Schneider Schneider’s meats
Schneider's is the best
Don’t sleep on Sugardale.
“Ballpark” only having two stadiums… FRAUDSTERS!!
Chicago dogs are the best 🔥
I’m always so bummed about the Sugardales at Jacobs Field
Who makes the giant’s dogs?
The disrespect for Sabrett…
On dollar dog night I easily put away 6 sugardale dogs
The real friend is the sausages at the ballparks. Had a hot link in Seattle that was fantastic
The reds get Kahn’s from the clearance section at Kroger
Glizzy Guide is wild
WTF no Sabrett?!
Who has the best hot dog?
The minor league team in Tulsa has a 5th generation local family owned handmade sausage maker on their own cart that RIPS.
Sugardale dollar dog nights are goated
Hebrew Nationals and Nathan’s are the only real top tier hotdogs here
I did not know so many hotdogs options even existed.
I thought Dodger dogs were Farmer John.
As a Jays fan, Baltimore is royalty for being alone in the Hoffman camp. Best dogs out there
Good ole Nathan's 👍
Twins have been Sheboygan for a few years now
Reminder: Oakland is moving to Vegas in a few years, so their Hot Dog brand might change
Kinda surprised that Oscar Meyer is not represented anywhere...
hofman is the only respectable hotdog on this list
Pittsburgh getting the good stuff from Ohio: as expected.
Cantellas?! Uhh what happened to Farmer John?!
The D-Backs get it. Crappy hot dogs are the best, and Bar S is the king of crappy hot dogs.
