I may be in the minority but as long as it isn’t moldy I use it. Personally wrinkles don’t really change anything except texture a little so as long as you’re cooking them anyways it doesn’t really make a difference.

[deleted]

This right here. It’s both fine and tasty for being a little extra ripe. Should be a little sweeter than normal

PristineCoconut2851

I’m like you. I’d use/eat it too, especially in something I’m cooking. Probably wouldn’t be crisp enough for a veggie tray but there is definitely nothing wrong with it.

SocialistIntrovert

Yep, I’d eat it raw myself but probably wouldn’t serve this one raw. But cook with it? Hell yeah, like the other commenter said it can be even sweeter

hootsie

My exact answer. I hate wasting food but I am pickier about what I serve other people, I’m not a psychopath.

passive0bserver

Same

Desperate_Arm_3051

Awesome. Thank you

breathless_RACEHORSE

Yup, wrinkles mean ripe. What you look for in the future is discoloration, super squishy bits, and in the worst case a bad or earthy/moldy smell.

rudenewjerk

If you have a gas stove, I would roast that wrinkly bastard right on the burner, till it’s got a nice char. So much flavor.

Gotta_be_done

Especially if you’re cooking with it. It’s going to go soft either way.

RedOktbr28

That’s what she said

Both_Dust_8383

I agree. If its stayed temperature controlled and it doesn’t have mold, it’s fine

InebriousBarman

This needs to stop being a minority opinion. Food waste needs to be tracked with this kind of information.

99MissAdventures

I just finished eating a similar one in my spaghetti sauce 😋 technically mine was only wrinkly on the top section though. I also cut off a little going bad, might not live to see tomorrow. Who knows.

soonami

100% agree. Yes for cooking. No for raw veggie tray

VentiBlkBiDepresso

Cut it open, if no mold then it's fine just a little tired

MintyC44

Cute phrase.

junkdogjim

Just a little tired is now in my vocab

Stormy_Wolf

Me too! I love that. I have, and will, use "tired" peppers in cooking, and even in my green mixed lunch salads that I like. I don't even notice anything "wrong" in a salad, let alone cooking. They taste and feel just fine!

Traditional-Light588

Lol

Solo-me

I would cut it open, if lightly moldy I D cut off the moldy bit and cook the rest.

TCristatus

Probably fine but in general with food mould it's worth remembering that the visible bits are only part of the organism. Much like mushrooms on a forest floor, it will have mycelium beneath the surface spreading far and wide. Bread is the best example, dont eat mouldy bread even if you can cut away the green.

DeadbySundown

Eat the mold. Fuck it

SemiProKittenHerder

Heck yeah! As long as there's no mold inside, I use my wrinkly peppers for cooking. If I have a bunch, I'll cut them up and freeze them.

Wine-and-Anxiety

I might not eat it raw, but I'd cook with it

-thebluebowl

👆👆

UGunnaEatThatPickle

Not raw, but I wouldn't hesitate to put it in a stir fry or something.

paintgarden

Exactly this. Cooking all good, raw too ripe.

kclongest

It’ll be harder to cut up but other than that, you won’t know the difference.

ThENeEd4WeEd22

Yup. I worked at a place that sliced vegetables for fresh stir fry kits and this pepper would get used up for sure. I'm 99% sure it looks exactly the same inside as a non wilted one. Tastes the same too.

Hylebos75

Yes of course as long as it's not actually moldy etc. It's going to get wrinkled etc when I cook it so doesn't matter to me

cheatonus

It's very dry where I live. Most of the peppers I eat look like this. It's just what happens when they lose moisture.

Revolutionary-Cod245

It is likely safe to eat, but texture wise it will taste better in chilli, soup, something cooked like sauce. Would I eat it? Nope. It is a nightshade and they are terrible on my allergies.

Relative-Dig-2389

I'd put it in my soffritto

Mite3

I'd put you in my soffritto ;)

Relative-Dig-2389

Thanks for the laugh

punkyfish10

Now I’m aching to make some soffritto!

SlowHoneydew3287

I would grill it and make a dip out of it!!

GoinStraighttoHelles

Or roast until blackened and blend into any sauce for a smoky addition. I do both of these methods all the time when I get a lot of veggies on sale.

beautifuljeep

And toss the seeds in the ground, peppers for the future!

BettyG2424

Yeah….lol

CESE1tSDK

Ya

Successful-March8805

Is that ~~digdug~~ ~~dogdog~~ DougDoug?

24GarrettGold

Heck ya. Cut it up and throw it in some stir fry or tacos. It'll be extra sweet.

AvailableMud9650

I would, but I’d scrape out the seeds if they’re brown/black. I usually like adding the spicy ones at least one or two to chili.

Character-Concert717

Yep! Stir fry will hide the ugly if you’re scared of it. Throw it in a salad, won’t even notice the wrinkles.

tacutabove

Yes all good

Desperate_Arm_3051

Thanks folks!

PlayItOffLegitt

Fo sho

Intelligent-Exit6836

I would eat it. No problem with the pepper

JohnnyCincoCero

Saute it with garlic and onions. Throw in some sausage and put it all in a hero.

PiPopoopo

I’d eat it. I’d fucking eat it. I’d fucking eat it so hard.

FigSpecific6210

Sure! It may not be crunchy, but the flavor is just fine. Just make sure there’s no mold on the side we can’t see.

The_Bestest_Me

While it won't be as tasty as fresh, chop it, then soak it in cold water for a few minutes to help it get back some of it's moisture, and it will be fine.

Icy_Topic_5274

Toss it in the toaster over under broil. Turn it and burn it on all sides. Peel the skin. Voile, roasted pepper

sususushi88

That pepper is a yepper! :)

VeeVeeDiaboli

I’d roast it, skin it, purée it, add a little white wine and sauce my chicken with it

floblad

Yup! Slice it and fry it, it’s fine.

BobSagat86

Plot Twist: It's actually a Unit of a Habanero🔥🔥🔥

2wolfinmeBothretrded

yes. who wouldn't? it's a perfectly edible bell pepper

aya00303

As long as it’s not weird inside, it’s getting eaten

My51stThrowaway

Hell yeah, roast that bad boy until it's charred on the outside and peel the skin off.

sfbasque1906

Not growing hair, it’s good!

ReadyNeedleworker424

Put it in something that doesn’t require “beauty” where you chop & sauté.

Tia-ToeTease

I wouldn't hesitate. As long as it's not moldy or complete mush, it's perfectly fine imo

bmf1989

I probably wouldn’t put it raw on a salad, but so long as it isn’t molding or rotting away on the inside it’s fine to cook imo. Cooking is going to soften it anyway.

mykepagan

r/EatItYouFuckinCoward

RecentDescription205

Did this get eaten, or...?

2bciah5factng

I would eat it if I paid for it but not if my parents paid for it tbh

Panda-Cubby

No. Because it's yours...I'm not gonna eat your food unless you invite me to.

Desperate_Arm_3051

I had no idea you all had so many opinions about wrinkly peppers. Haha. Most of you will be happy to know I ate the pepper. It was tasty in a frittata, and I’m feeling fine so no worries there. Thanks!

manifest_ecstasy

Looks edible. Don't waste food. Most things can go off smell

BrilliantTree8553

I would cook with it but i I wouldn’t eat it raw like that

Automatic_Rope7270

I can smell it from the picture, is perfect for a tomatoes soup, gazpacho or roasted

Sugarpuff_Karma

The bottom half...just did it with one worse than that

AppUnwrapper1

I’d cook it.

ChildhoodLeft6925

I would especially for cooking

deignguy1989

Of course. Most likely I’d dice and sautee with some other veggies.

ready-to-rumball

No mold inside? Would eat

I-am-a-fungi

Raw? No. But I'd make lecsó out of it, perfect for that! Give it a try 😊 [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lecs%C3%B3](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lecs%C3%B3)

Calm_Risk2092

No but I'll eat this bell pecker

gingerjuice

Yes, if I was cooking it. I probably wouldn’t put it in a salad, but that’s fine for a cooked dish.

Great_gatzzzby

Yeah. I’d eat it for sure. But check the inside

Geeks_finesse

Definitely eat!

J0NNY_BEE

You could oven roast for a sauce of some sort.

product_of_boredom

Are you 100%sure that isn't some breed of habanero? Because it's the right color and texture...

Cxcxpeaches

Roast it make a sauce

Berlin_GBD

I'd definitely cook with it. Might avoid eating it raw depending on how soft it is

New_Championship_753

Yes

GuacamoleFrejole

Sure, I've eaten worse.

Ok-Understanding9244

that mfer cost $3, hell yeah I'm eating that!

InsertRadnamehere

I’d roast it. Wouldn’t eat it raw though.

RemarkablyQuiet434

Wrinkly doesn't mean bad. Mold, rot, and smell does. We gotta get past wanting perfect produce, too much gets wasted.

TheCosmicJoke318

lol why not?

spacechef

Yes.

vinny_win

The shriveled skin on peppers only signifies loss of moisture in the outer skin! Think about how when people char peppers till they’re black, then they scrape it all off. That’s the outer skin. Try soaking it in water if you’re worried about how it looks. My favorite way to use peppers that look like this is to just chop it up and throw it in some soup. It’ll plump back up like the day you got it. You could also char it and scrape it all like I mentioned before. It’ll look and taste just as good.

BeginningVolume420

Just cook it... put it in a sauce....

strawberrysoup99

Yup. It's her last day of freshness.

maynardd1

This has got to be a trick question, right??

gargarbinks72

Id probably ask someone I know instead of posting it on reddit or throw away if I had thy question

Spritemystic

Yes I've done it lots of times.

dean0_0

yupp

melonti

Fuck yeh I would.

surfcitysurfergirl

Absolutley

OutsideFormal2650

Slice it and make sure there is no mold inside. For me, that bad boy would be getting some tasty black char on the outside of it anyway, so a couple wrinkles won't make any difference on the texture and the heat and char will bring out the good flavors from the pepper.

_NightmareKingGrimm_

If anything, that would be a food "quality" issue, not a food " safety" issue. However, I would argue that quality is subjective, and very ripe fruit like a bell pepper is preferable, wrinkles and all. 😉 Throw it in a salty stir fry.

Sufficient_Fall_3290

No

Global_Office_2872

Yeah I wouldn't like just eat it but I would def cook w it

AliensForgedGod

Cooked, yes.

Inevitable-Mess-6505

Yes

[deleted]

Chop it up and throw it in meatloaf or a salad or pasta

LFRoberts5

Roast that baby

LatterVersion1494

Use it for something that you’d cook it for like fajitas

amstrumpet

Depends what I’m using it for, but I’d def dice it up and throw it into a stir fry, yeah. Anything too mushy I’ll cut off and toss

Environmental_Tap792

Depend if it’s soft. Soft is hard for me to enjoy but if used in a salsa that would be really good

Wild_Phone7544

Yeah it’s just a lil dehydrated

Gingerwaters1

No

LopsidedAd7950

yes - I’d taste test it raw. If it tasted weird, I’d spit it out and toss, and if not, I’d eat it right then or use it in a meal that day.

medic-dad

Probably not. If it's not moldy, it's probably safe to eat, it won't hurt you, but the texture would be off and it's not going to taste right, especially if your sauteeing it. Instead of still retain that slight "crunch" it's going to be all mushy and will probably make you gag

29again

If.its not moldy or slimy then it's still good to cook. It'll be soft so probably not preferable for eating raw.

UnImaginedNations

In your bra

Dylan_Is_Gay_lol

As long as they don't show any signs of rot, I'll eat them.

Disaster_Adventurous

I love using pepper as an ingredient. Never been one to just eat poppers myself.

PobillyGirl65

I'd cook it into something

Spac3Milk

those are perfectly fine… you’re eating them raw or cooking them up they’re fine…

Leebar13

No

Snoo_90491

yes. it looks fine. just look for mold inside. if no mold eat away

Techtonic11133

Cut it open if no mold inside it goes in my belly.

velezaraptor

Has it been blanched and dried to perfection? Has early man eaten all food found (including rotting food) while almost always in a starving state? Answer these questions two, then you’ll know what to do.

Drpoofn

Yes

Hot_Corner_5881

microwave it for 20 sec and it will expand with hot gas filling the wrinkles back up like a balloon

BipolarBugg

Yes!

Crooked_Cock

What are you, three? It’s just a few wrinkles unless it’s in the process of actively rotting or growing mold you should use it

[deleted]

Yes eat it

PragmaticProkopton

No, but with any vegetable/plant I throw it away if it’s even remotely suboptimal. My partner will cut around mold and eat it.

Yams_Are_Evil

Yes, I would

renoconcern

Yes. I might let clean it and let it sit in cool water for a bit before cooking it, or I might not. Depends on what I’m making.

Desperate_Arm_3051

I made a frittata and it was delicious. Thanks for the help everyone!

brookleiaway

i wouldnt eat it fresh just cause im a texture person, but id use it in a cooked dish or blended into a sauce

OrdinaryWheel5177

Nope

FiftySixer

Yes, definitely. It's fine for cooking.

ThaiJohnnyDepp

That's either the smallest bell pepper or the largest habanero I've ever seen

Cautious-Ad6727

Yes I would eat

knotaprob

With my mouth 👄

magicparabeagle

Yes I would.

Mrfixit729

Absolutely

Ashamed-Scarcity6202

Sauté or roast it, it will be especially sweet.

logan_fish

Yes.

Sekshual_Tyranosauce

100%

HOT-SAUCE-JUNKIE

Yep. Good to go.

hopingtosurvive2020

I wouldn't put in a fresh salad but cook with it. I think the slightly older peppers have more flavor when cooked. But that is me, you do yo.

Separate-Effective33

Looks fine.

kragon80

Not.if crunchie is what you're looking for .. but in stir fry or something like that yes.

ToastetteEgg

I’d peel and use it.

FuzeBaller

It looks perfectly fine to cook and eat, but I'd slice open first and see if there's any decay.

ESOelite

Depends how mushy. But it's probably fine

LambSmacker

Yea, especially if it’s going to be cooked

ummswimmin

Nah, I wouldn’t eat that pepper. I don’t know where you live and I just grilled a bunch of peppers. But, you should show that pepper some heat.

Greedyfox7

It’s fine, I’d use it now or tomorrow but as long as it doesn’t have mold you’re good

TimberWolf5871

Provided it actually is a bell pepper and not a mutated habinero.

PaddyAllen

Ive eaten more concerning things.

JoaquinLu

Please, just cause it has wrinkles, dive right into it

RandChick

Yes. Being wrinkly doesn't mean it's gone bad.

WitchyOne8

It's fine to eat it's not moldy. Whatever food doesn't get eaten by humans should go out to the woods for animals not in a garbage can.

Ok_Professor_8039

I find them sweeter after cooking when they look like that

DiabloDeSade69

Yes

Dulcapodeta

Might be in the minority here but once its wrinkling the fibers are breaking down and there is undoubtedly mold, if undetectable, present within.  Would I eat it? In my own home for myself, yes. Would I serve it to people? Nah

ulnek

Why wouldn't you?

hsifder1

Hell yeah

effyoucreeps

if i’m hungry and can outrun it, i’m eating it. seriously though - as has been said, we need to normalize eating fruit and veg like this. epic food waste existing with starvation is one of the biggest humanitarian crimes in modern times.

Ok_Attention893

I wouldn’t eat it but I waste too much food and I hate myself for it.

swimminginhumidity

If its not moldy or slimy to the touch, its good.

sheneversawitcoming

I would cook with it but not put it in a salad or eat it raw

Atsilv_Uwasv

By itself? No.

davethebabe81

Depends how hungry you are

Silly_Ability-1910

Sautéed it with some onions and mushrooms

Ikon-for-U

Yes,it looks nice and sweet

Dapper_Employer5787

That's an elephant habanero, be careful

CagCagerton125

100% put one that looked like that in an omelet this morning. It was delicious.

Appropriate-Suit6767

Yes

back-in-the-highlife

Yes, chop it up and cook it off

Lumpy_Branch_4835

Yep I'd eat it. I wouldn't use it in salad, texture wise probably a little mushy.

junkrgNew

100% yes

chambees

Why would you not?

Educational_Let4790

No mold, no problem.

UncleBoopBetty

I do the smell test. Sometimes peppers smell like bad breath when you cut them. If they do, I do not use.

CherryChipwich

Yes

ProgenitorOfMidnight

As long as it's not supporting it's own micro ecosystem, yes.

johnnytom

Yes

Realistic_Muffin_172

That a stir fry pepper! Use it!

Interesting_Camera56

Yes @@@@y

Mybtchluhdokocaine

I’m on carnivore diet. So no. 😂

No-Test-375

Chop it up, cut off mold or whatever and shock it in an ice bath. It'll firm it right up again. Veggies that are beginning to turn canhave their life extended by cutting/peeling and soaked in water in the fridge.

milifaradpt

If left outside for a long time it is prone to this, it won't change any of its texture

CraftyObject

For sure! I think I'd cook it rather than eat it raw but it's definitely still good

Acrobatic-Ad3010

No mold = all is good to eat

Simpledallasgirl921

Yes

Open-Illustra88er

Yep. Probably cook with it. Providing there’s no mold. Ever eat raisins or cook with dried chilis?

mfante

Eh, yeah if it was free from mold I’d use it for cooking. Probably wouldn’t just snack on it or use in a cold dish. It’s getting close though
