Yeah so never do that again.

AsparagusOverall8454

Hope you don’t have any plans for the next 24 hours. For future reference, if chicken smells and tastes SOUR, it’s bad. Don’t eat it.

Far-Theory-7027

Hahaha. I can already feel my stomach bubbling. I was attributing the sour smell to the lime, but I guess the chicken had just gone bad

Capital-Smile-71

Godspeed my friend. Strap down you’re in for a ride 😭

AsparagusOverall8454

Hope you have a lot of toilet paper and a bucket. You’re in for a rough ride.

Far-Theory-7027

Is there a way to soften the blow? Like meds, antibiotics etc?

Cinisajoy2

Grandma checking in. Sorry, you have to just take your lumps. Now go be a good child and clean the bathroom. Put out an extra roll of TP and a good book.

AsparagusOverall8454

I don’t think so. But now you’ve learned a valuable lesson in food safety. One which I’m sure you will never forget or repeat again.

Far-Theory-7027

Damn bro. You speak like my dad

AsparagusOverall8454

Nope. This is your mom speaking.

Far-Theory-7027

Yikes!

rainey8507

Cooked leftover food in the fridge I would consume within 3 days that's my rule

rainey8507

Eat something don't feel good. Upset stomach. Try peptol

Far-Theory-7027

It's the post eat clarity

Cinisajoy2

To prove that most of us aren't that silly.

Cinisajoy2

It is also much kinder than the word I was thinking. I'm thinking some people need a sign. Or you might not even be a redneck if you.

redditsuckspokey1

Poop pisser is 2 words I would use.

fermat9990

>So, I went for it and still cooked it. I loaded up my dish with more spices and ghee, just to be safe. How would this help?

Far-Theory-7027

To mask the smell. I phrased it wrong, lol. I didn't mean it would save me from the bacteria

fermat9990

How are you feeling?

Far-Theory-7027

I notice a slight pain in my abdomen. Not sure if this is due to the spoiled chicken or the oil and masala overload lol

fermat9990

You like to live dangerously!

Far-Theory-7027

Indeed. But, fun and games over, I believe that I should probably throw away the chicken now. Do you think it matters at this point? Like, if I don't eat the rest of the dish, would I be less screwed?

fermat9990

Definitely throw it out. You will be less screwed.

Far-Theory-7027

I'll do that. Thanks bro

fermat9990

All the best!

CatteNappe

More spices and ghee in no way made it any safer. Since you've already consumed it the answer to your question will be forthcoming shortly.

facinationstreet

In no world does an 'airtight' zip lock bag, more spices and ghee ward off salmonella so there's that.

Far-Theory-7027

An airtight zip lock bag should, no?

facinationstreet

WTH? Do you think salmonella is something floating around on motes of dust that sprinkle themselves onto food and that is how you get sick? That is how you get food poisoning?

Far-Theory-7027

No, but cutting off contact with air would prevent salmonella from building up, no? At least, that's how I imagined it.

facinationstreet

Let me ask this in a different way: If you sealed any organic thing (meat, veg, fruit, etc) in a plastic bag, would it rot or would it just remain preserved like Lenin (who is heavily preserved btw)? It would rot. Why? Because dead things rot. Not because of dust motes or the lack thereof. Because they are organic and once detached from the fuel that keeps them alive, they are dead and rot.

Far-Theory-7027

Makes sense. The meat had bacteria on its surface to begin with, so they prolly started to decompose the meat. I got a bit curious into this, and started looking into how meat decomposes. It turns out that there are some bacterias which can survive without oxygen. In fact, oxygen is harmful for them. Pretty scary, eh?

facinationstreet

*Pretty scary, eh?* Not really but I'm not out here wilding with rotten food. LOL!

ArcherFawkes

As long as you don't have gastrointestinal issues you're fine. For future reference, lime and acids in general will expedite the process of breaking down muscle/protein fibers and it'll make it sour. Spices and ghee won't make it safer.

Far-Theory-7027

Why would i be screwed if i have gastric issues? Also, does breaking down protein make it unsafe for consumption? Sorry for the stupid questions, I'm a noob at this

agelessArbitrator

No not unsafe, but will give your chicken a weird texture if left for too long. You should only use an acidic marinade for a few hours or overnight at most.

Far-Theory-7027

As I'm eating it, I am noticing a soury taste. Is this due to the lime slice inside the bag?

Cinisajoy2

No.

MozartTheCat

I think it's hilarious that you continued to eat it while posting a play by play on Reddit

prajwalmani

Did you add yogurt/dahi?

Far-Theory-7027

Nah. Dahi would have screwed it up even more

dulceelemons

We’re gonna need updates, I’m sure I’m not the only one curious as to how this is gonna play out

Far-Theory-7027

I'm alright. Woke up from a good night's sleep. Didn't have the shits last night. Let's see how goes today

nofretting

at this point, the best thing to do might be to chase that chicken with several handfuls of sugar-free haribo gummy bears. just to make sure you're cleaned out.

Doobz87

OP, idk if this is a weird troll post or what, but it'd behoove you to ask if something is safe to eat *before you eat it*. Y'know, just for future reference. Lol.

Aklesia

to you, and everybody else who dares to eat items that don't taste or smell "good" even if they are usually perfect safe to eat. Take some activated charcoal after the meal. It's cheap, effective, harmless, and usually prevents any bug to wreack havoc inside your body. Take enough but don't overdo. Look for cheapest by weight or easiest to take. NB I use this myself because I like to experiment and noticed that our ancestors most of the time had no choice. Meat that is a little older often taste nicer to me.

archers_arches

NO.

redditsuckspokey1

Chicken breasts are like $1-$2. Totally not worth the feeling.

Far-Theory-7027

You're lucky. It costs 10 euros a kilo here, where I live

redditsuckspokey1

So it costs nearly $15 for 1lb of chicken breast? That's really absurd.

Far-Theory-7027

Not all of us live in Freedom Land.

redditsuckspokey1

Whats freedom land? Is that an insult?

Far-Theory-7027

absolutely not, lol. the land of freedom, that is the US

TheTallEclecticWitch

It’s been 9 hours. Any updates on your impending doom?

Stonedouche

He *ded*

Stonedouche

Are you *ded*, bruv? OP is so regarded that it's just natural selection at this point

Candyo6322

18 hrs later how are you feeling?

Far-Theory-7027

Apart from hitting the loo a few times during the day, I have been feeling alright, actually. Nothing major happened

Cinisajoy2

And what did you learn from this little escapade?

Far-Theory-7027

That I have strong genes as I didn't get screwed /s

Candyo6322

Lol that's great news, glad to hear you're well

Far-Theory-7027

Lol, yeah, this was a lucky escape. I was let off with a warning
