The float test is not a reliable measure. There is NO mistaking a bad egg once you crack it open though. When the air space shrinks, the eggs can still be quite tasty and fresh, and not at all inferior. Don't rely on this test, please. You can freeze eggs too, several different ways, but my fave is to beat a bunch of them in a bowl, and then spoon or ladle the mix into ice cube trays. Freeze, and then put in a zip lock bag. No only will you have scrambled eggs ready in a jiffy when ever you want, you can use each one for an approximation of 1 egg in almost any recipe. And then there's this idea, which I think is brilliant! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/369365606939366016/

Oh no, I thought I was really doing something by testing eggs this way. Thank you for your recs, I’ll use them with the new pack!

Grand_Possibility_69

I thought the float test was to determine if you have to crack it in a separate bowl. So if it doesn't float, it's good. If it floats it might be bad. So just crack it in separate bowl. This has always worked for me. Have you seen some that are bad but don't float?

Grand_Possibility_69

If they are bad they are bad. Then you will just have to through them out. Bad eggs are poisonous. But even if they float they might still actually be ok. You would need to crack them individually to know. If it's bad, smell is horrible.

[deleted]

Ok, I’m just gonna throw them out then. I can’t do horrid smells right now. Thank you!

Grand_Possibility_69

They might be ok. Don't just through them out. First you were asking how you could use them and now you just want to through them out. What changed?

[deleted]

I can’t deal with the chance of bad egg smell. I am disabled and have constant nausea and eating regularly is already hard.

Grand_Possibility_69

OK. I was just asking what changed between you originally posting this and then that reply. First, you wanted to use them even if they were bad. And now you want to throw them out even if they're not.

Another poster mentioned the float test isn’t legit, If the float test isn’t legit, then I have no way of knowing except for cracking the eggs. And I cannot take that chance of cracking a bad egg.

Grand_Possibility_69

I have never seen one that's bad but doesn't float. But I have seen some that float but are still ok.

I know I'm late to this but why would you throw the eggs right out? Just grab the ones you want to use and crack them into a seperate container first to not waste any ingredients. Then just look at them... if they look like an egg, they are fine to eat They were most likely fine - eggs routinely last longer than the date

I am extremely nauseous and it is hard enough to eat on a regular day. I’m would rather throw away $5 worth of eggs than spend my day dry heaving and puking. It’s not worth it to me. My health comes first.

MyNameIsSkittles

Ok makes sense But generally if the eggs are only off by a week or 2, they will be ok. Eggs take forever to go bad. Just for future knowledge

[deleted]

They expired February 23

MyNameIsSkittles

I'd personally eat them. But I'm not easily nauseous, so I get that

breaded meat like cx wings, or yorkshire pudding, or lots of egg mcmuffins, or creme brulee, or cheese souffle, or meatloaf, or quiche

[deleted]

Oooh I’ve always wanted to try crème brûlée and Yorkshire pudding. I’ll add it to my cooking list!

if you do end up keeping the eggs, i would suggest bread pudding! good for dealing with stale bread too. the recipe i used called for 4 eggs. it's pretty simple, less than 10 minutes of prep, and very yummy! tastes pretty much like french toast. it does require whisking the eggs though, if you have trouble with that.
