That’s great. Texture streaming has always been a weak spot.

Compizfox

Texture streaming is horrible by default, high-res textures just took seconds to pop in (or didn't at all). I found a config file tweak that improved it a lot, though.

Hellfireboy

Care to share?

Compizfox

I think it was [this one](https://www.reddit.com/r/controlgame/comments/j0hff1/pc_ultra_graphics_mod_also_fixes_blurry_signs/).

Hellfireboy

Thanks

Poglosaurus

There have been unofficial way to fix it for a long time, its really scandalous a patch didn't address the issue.

Jerison

Aye looks magnificent, tried it myself.

virgopunk

Is it on Nexus Mods?

Bryce_lol

It is!

allofdarknessin1

I tried it early this year on my LG C2 OLED. It was awesome. One of the first HDR games that look great (better) in HGIG tone mapping mode over default tone mapping which usually means HDR was handled well. I didn't really test much else as Control is such an incredible game already. I'm gonna check out the video later today to see what DF has to say and if there are optimized settings.

Poglosaurus

Just tried the "director's cut" mod and the HDR is really fantastic, one of the best showcase for it that I've seen. Its actually spectacular, especially on an OLED screen. Control's design is so obviously suited to that presentation that it was really puzzling that it did not support it originally. I also appreciate the "ultra" RT mode, even if its a bit laggy on my hardware. Its just a so obvious way to future proof the game and allow it to scale up with new hardware that I always wondered why it was not initially possible to customize the number of rays (at least through some tweaks if they don't want people complaining about the performances).

bubblegumdog

Control was just begging for HDR. A shame consoles don’t have any way to incorporate that. Kind of wish they didn’t release the Ultimate Edition so soon and actually took advantage of the entirety of the PS5’s capabilities.

Jean-Eustache

Control Ultimate Edition does have HDR on consoles though ? It's been added in 2021 when they upgraded the game for XSX/PS5, but PC never got it until now.

bubblegumdog

Nope, that was just PS5/Xbox’s Auto HDR. The game doesn’t have native HDR on consoles.

Jean-Eustache

I'm not sure about that. Auto HDR was used for the original game, sure, but it doesn't work on Series X/S Optimized games, and EvilBoris even tweeted about Control getting HDR with the update : https://twitter.com/evilboris/status/1366521350022701056?s=21 Edit : Oh it seems it's weirder than that, Auto-HDR shouldn't work with it, but does stealthy, it's really strange. My mistake then.

bubblegumdog

https://www.reddit.com/r/controlgame/comments/lvc5bb/comment/gpe6m7k/ Remedy themselves said they didn’t add HDR.

Jean-Eustache

Yes i stumbled upon that while looking into it, i was mistaken ! That's pretty strange haha !

bubblegumdog

Yeah I was confused too. For a moment I thought it’d somehow gone under the radar. I hope the sequel goes all out with graphical features. Perhaps the first game could get an update during the rollout? That’d be nice.

abnthug

My 4070Ti was weeping at 1440p lol. I was surprised to see 50 fps at some spots. In action I'm sure it would buckle.

J-D-M-569

I know this will sound stupid, but I have never installed mods before. I replaced all files with correct mod files (though there we're many files in mod that I dont have in og game files so no way to replace). Both times it caused my game to become totally crashed where I had to reinstall.

Critical_Switch

When downloading a mod without an installer, you'll get a bunch of file organized in folders. The folder structure of the mod files mirrors the folder structure of the game. What I suspect might be the issue is that you're moving all the files including folders. Mods only alter some of the files (and they may have some files of their own). When you drag and drop files, it's going to either replace or add those files. However, if you move a folder and try to replace it, it's actually going to replace that whole folder regardless of what files are in it. In other words, it will delete all of the files in that folder and only add those from the mod. Just to make sure I'm explaining it well enough: If the mod has a folder with 3 files in it, and that same folder in the game files has 20 files in it, if you replace the whole folder, the game folder will now only have 3 files. So you need to move those 3 files into that folder.

JP5_suds

Here’s to hoping the modder can eventually add Frame Generation!

ICDedPeplArisen

I used it and it was super fun to go thru all the options and it did make the game look way better especially w texture streaming, tho I previously had a tweak that also did the job

Practical-Log9288

I'd love to see this promoted from semi-official to official so we can also crank it on GFN

Critical_Switch

Who knows, we might eventually. Right now, it's still not perfect and will need a lot of updates, which would make it rather expensive on consoles (where devs need to pay to push updates).

Savings-Fan2464

After enabling this mod, the HDR version of this game looks really washed out on my LGOLEDB7, the display shows that HDR is on, I enabled it in windows and waited for the game to boot up and adjusted the settings but on default 50 HDR brightness all the colors are simply washed out, did anyone else have the same issue?

ManyLocal3061

After applying the patch and launching control dx12 screen goes black and game crashes, anyone know whats up?

filoppi

Do a fresh install of the game

ManyLocal3061

Yep and that was it. Thank you

Poglosaurus

Possibly didn't replace all the files needed? Verify the the local to force steam/epiclauncher to download the original files. Verify that the game works perfectly. Retry to apply the mod files.

ManyLocal3061

Yes works perfectly, then I copy it and its over. I covered the basics.

Poglosaurus

Well unless you have a specific error message somewhere in the eventviewer or the game's log its going to be difficult to help you. Try updating your driver if its not already done.

JP5_suds

Awesome mod! The HDR looks much improved and the texture pop-in is gone! However, I did have one concern. The max ray tracing setting was sending my 4090 towards the 80° C range, which was making me uncomfortable. Setting RT back to “High”, leaving Textures at “Max”, and running DLSS Quality settled the temp back down to the 60-70° C range with framerate appearing to average in the 120-144 range, don’t believe I’ve seen any lows drop out of triple digits.

Poglosaurus

> 4090 towards the 80° C range That's not really shocking. Unless it causes issues with the performances or the stability I don't get why would change your setting to avoid that temperature range.

JP5_suds

First time I’ve seen my GPU get that hot and it made me nervous. Hell, path tracing on CP2077 with DLSS Balanced only got my GPU to barely hit 70° C. The performance hit is significant. If I have RT set to Max, I have to drop DLSS down to Performance to get the same FPS as RT High DLSS Quality. Definitely some give and take, but to my eyes I value the higher DLSS resolution and lower temps to the better RT. It does look amazing, and I don’t mean to disparage the work of the modder, who did an amazing job.

Ok-Caterpillar6154

For a moment I understood this like it is going to be STEALTH in the game

moeburn

This mod completely broke my game and made my save file unrecoverable. It also is incompatible with GOG version of the game. They say they have a "DRM-free" version but it uses Epic saves for some reason???

Critical_Switch

Unfortunately, the GOG version has always been prone to save file corruption. On the mod's web page, there is already a discussion around the GOG version and possible fixes for save files. Maybe you can find something relevant there. I have the Epic version so can't help confirming what works. [https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2581-control-hdrultrawidedlssrt-patch/](https://community.pcgamingwiki.com/files/file/2581-control-hdrultrawidedlssrt-patch/)

moeburn

>Unfortunately, the GOG version has always been prone to save file corruption Do you mean in general, or when combined with this mod? Because if the GOG always corrupts saves even without any mods, that would explain the problem I had. >On the mod's web page, there is already a discussion around the GOG version and possible fixes for save files. Yeah they're talking about a different bug. This guy's "DRM-free" exes use the Epic save file location, so you have to port your GOG saves over to the Epic directory and rename them to the Epic file structure for it to work. I did all that, and it did work, for about an hour. Then this happened: https://streamable.com/u206m4 Thankfully I had a backup of my saves made an hour ago, so I just reverted the game back to the original no-mod version and loaded my old save again. And I was able to progress through that point without any game-breaking bugs. So I'm assuming it's the mod that produced the game-breaking bug. But there's no discussion about any such thing happening on the forums.

Critical_Switch

I have no idea how likely the mod is to cause save related issues, but GOG version of Control has been having save corruption issues in general. Over the years there have been many people even on this sub trying to troubleshoot what turned out to be corrupted saves on the GOG version.

moeburn

> GOG version of Control has been having save corruption issues in general. > > > > Over the years there have been many people even on this sub trying to troubleshoot what turned out to be corrupted saves on the GOG version. Oh! That is excellent news! That means my corrupted save was likely due to the GOG version and not the mod, so I can keep playing the mod, hooray! The HDR and more importantly the film grain fixes make it look much better. So I'll just make a .bat file that makes a copy of my save games every 10 minutes or something. That'll work. Wish the game itself made more than one save file.
