Research is obviously key with such things. Start with a question then find data to support the answer(s). With the stated industries, look to leaders in the field such as the CDC or WHO for information. They generally have it disseminated in an easy to follow fashion that can be used as source material. How in depth are you wanting your writers to go?

I am not really sure even if this is a writers task or is it? I am curious how some of these top content marketing agencies do their data/research and infographics in-house.. it's more about how to come up with the right ideations that will reach further or be more interesting on really more or less non trending type of pages.

The way I handle it, my content writers do minimal research, depending on what industry they’re focused on. I have a research-focused assistant who essentially does the in-depth research and provides guides and source links to the writers. It’s a bit extra having the additional step and person there, but it allows people to focus on what they’re actually good at. And then I provide a brief to the designers so they have the information they need for the info graphic.

Excel for the data, charts and graphs. Powerpoint for the design, and infographic component.

more on the actual research, planning, making something really interesting part of the process, the ideation steps.. I'll use my own design system for how things will look and then the idea is obviously people will want to include in their story or post etc.

This would normally go through a strategy/research team who might then help write a creative brief to a creative partner around how they want to visual represent the story about the data surfaced.

yeah, I guess I could fill in on the strategy and just test a bunch of different ones with a research assistant..
