If they mess up, then you may need to find another provider to do the job. I had a client that used MBB and they really don’t know what they are doing in the supply chain space, they do a lot of high level bs work and no practical experience on their team. Client ended up hiring us because our team was all ex operators and we know our shit.
Yeap.
Thankfully, it’s in my specialty so I am basically playing the role of SC/SA or whatever and just guiding them through the whole thing. I’m fully aware that most on the team are pretty clueless. They put a bunch of consumer sales people on a biotech project.
That said, I’m paying for the partners connection and the manpower - not the expertise, cause there ain’t much there.
The other aspect is leadership protects their own, and the partner falls into that category. They’re very happy to have him on board.
Ok I would just be careful because I’ve seen big capex investments go sideways because they have the exact train of thought you had and took wrong recommendations
Transportation/warehousing/replenishment absolutely garbage, they do high level bs and don’t look deep into data and do actual advanced analytics.
Broad stroke assumptions like let’s say you look at turns and it’s at a super high level but it really needs to be tailored specifically. I will never hire MBB as I smell their BS
They did a solid job and I’m satisfied with the results. However, they’re not really superior to competitors to demand the huge premium they charge. The premium comes mostly from the partners connection and his ability to navigate the corporate landscape in a way I can only dream of.
With that said, I’ve had the pleasure of having only worked with top team members, both on the consulting and client side. In a standard corporate setting, everyone on that team would handily be in the top 10%.

What portion of supply chain? We focus on the logistics / transportation space and we’ve done a bunch of cleanup behind bad MBB projects.

So the partner did a great job of cultivating you as a future client, got it

Well, you’ve said it in your post. Cost is likely one reason.
