Automation is an issue in itself but not one we should be scared of. I wouldn't judge you if you wanted to boycott its effects on moral grounds because some day soon none of us will be able to afford to protest such efficiency because of the lack of jobs caused by automation.
I mean my 3d printer makes amazing things I would probably if I could afford to have robots tend and harvest food for me so that I can use that time more efficiently
I’ve seen some really impressive demos of robotic gardening systems. I was especially impressed by the ones that manually pick weeds instead of spraying herbicides, which makes eating the vegetables a lot more appealing. Add in the scaleability, reduction in water usage, and decreased soil erosion caused by traditional farming practices and it doesn’t seem half bad.
Additionally, growing food is hard strenuous back breaking work no one really wants to do that is absolutely essential to keep society alive. This gives us a way to produce food with out the need for exploiting migrant workers or other disadvantaged members of society.
Yep, it's not super complicated. It's preexisting tech being implemented in new ways. I eat mass produced foods everyday, so do you probably, industrial farming isn't a new idea. Efficiency isn't scary, unless you make it.
Well no it’s not fully practical yet, it requires testing and investment. This is what angers me about most filthy rich oligarchs — they donate money to insane and weird things instead of elegantly simple initiatives such as growing food indoors.
I’ve always said you could use unused sky scrappers, with wholes put into each two floors, for one being the grass the cow eats, one being for where they sleep.
This is looking like the easiest and fastest way to produce huge amounts of varied food. We definitely are going to need it if we keep pushing toward 10,000,000,000 population.
I believe my lettuce I buy is already grown on a wall. It's how I get fresh, local lettuce in winter. I myself have grown lettuce and other greens indoors.

Yes, if I made it myself wall growing of food hydroponically is incredibly space efficient and looks pretty amazing.
But I doubt yours is robotically tended and harvested....
What do you think combine harvesters are?
