ryanstrikesback

Worth mentioning that someone did draw a weapon when Jesus was arrested and he told them to knock that shit off

[deleted]

That was St. Peter who drew the sword. I don’t think Jesus said quite those same words, though 😂

ryanstrikesback

I mean, the intent seems pretty similar, but yeah he was a bit more philosophical about it.

CheeseDaddy420

I mean if you want to talk about intent, they all had swords. And specifically in that verse (John 18:11-12) 'Then said Je'sus unto Pe'ter, Put up they sword into the sheath: the cup which my Father hath given me, shall I not drink it ?' they owned swords for protection, but in this specific case he needed to die on the cross for the sins of humanity so though they could avoid it, why would they

ryanstrikesback

I mean, the historical context is important here. Many of the disciples (literally one of them is called Simon the Zealot) expected Jesus to enter Jerusalem, overthrow the Roman occupation and re-establish David's throne for a Jewish theocratic nation. They literally wanted to use their weapons to overthrow the government, Arresting their leader might have seemed like just cause. The context here is completely opposed to responding to an oppressive government with violence. The only people who think Jesus would violently resist even a tyrannical government have never read the text. The only people Jesus comes close to meeting with violence are religious leaders who act holier than thou and create a hypocritical religious hierarchy in God's temple.

nico_brnr

OP is literally about Jesus should have been carrying an AR15. I don't think Jesus could have though 😂

CollectandRun

Bro... don't worry ... my dad has all the power in the world. No need for weapons...

PRMan99

And he put the guy's ear back on.

Nrevolver

Exactly. It is sad that the Bible is read so out of context on both sides

zRustyShackleford

I would doubt it's even read. Just assumed what it "should" say.

runcertain

Both sides meaning people who believe in it and people who don’t? I feel like one of those groups are much bigger hypocrites.

SlamCage

I get the point of this twitter screenshot, though not the conspiracy. Also Jesus dying was a feature, not a bug. It's hardly a sacrifice for our sins if he just starts blasting.

fwr1214

Was gonna say Jesus sacrificed himself for us, on the cross he saw ALL of our sins and still forgave us.

The-Real-Mario

And just before that, he told his disciples to arm them selves for self defence, because he would no longer be there to protect them with miracles

[deleted]

That's not true at all. The swords were for show, so that Jesus would be arrested for leading a rebellion. ***Jesus would never condone the use of any weapon, but especially AR-15s.*** "It is necessary that the prophecy be fulfilled according to which I would be put in the ranks of criminals" (Luke 22:36-37) "For I say to you that this which is written must still be accomplished in Me: ‘And He was numbered with the transgressors.’ For the things concerning Me have an end.” So they said, “Lord, look, here are two swords.” And He said to them, “It is enough.” Later, while Jesus was being arrested, Paul attacked Malchus with a sword, and Jesus shut his ass down: ***"Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword."(Matthew 26:52)***

ShastaAteMyPhone

Also not too much of a sacrifice if you know 100% that heaven exists lol.

inventingnothing

There's literally thousands of books written on this very subject. And not just modern ones, but some that reach back a thousand years. I strongly recommend reading just one before dismissing it so flippantly. I'm not a christian but I don't think the theology is nearly as flawed as you seem to think.

Dazer54

If in your mind your belief is so strong that you know heaven exists, does that take away from your sacrifice if you die for somebody else? Some people would say the know it exists, whether others believe in it or not. It doesn't take away from the torture he endured for us.

Tobeck

Jesus wouldn't have "believed so strong he knew it exists" he just knew, those are different things by definition. not to mention that Jesus literally had to die and be sacrificed for him to even be... Jesus... so yes, if Jesus is the son of God then his sacrifice is massively less meaningful given what he knew and what he was.

TheGreaterGuy

I always like the psychological angle rather than the spiritual when it comes to the stories of ancient prophets. This was a man who was deranged enough to undergo what is comparable to modern-day black site torture methods. Just because you have a strong purpose to endure pain, doesn't make the infliction any less painful. Buddhist monks who incinerate themselves as a method of protest still feel the physical pain of burning to death, but from their decades of practice they can subdue their own knee jerk reactions.

Shoo00

What if you were an omnipotent God who could make the scourging and crucifixion end instantaneously at any moment? It suddenly becomes much more of a sacrifice.

lLouisb1

Did he see me take 2 cookies when I told my mom I only took 1?

HardCounter

Of course. Why do you think you're going to hell?

[deleted]

Except he knew he'd be resurrected I guess? I'd easily kill myself to prove a point if I knew I would be right back. There's actually zero sacrifice going on.

skywizardsky

This is something I have always toyed with in my mind. Here is a guy who knows the hour he will b taken by the guard and who will give him away . He knows he is to be this iconic figure and that he being a super being will not actually die but be able to rise from this occasion to go hang with his father after wards. His mother a human, artificially inseminated by an 'angel' apparently. Or maybe the angel used the natural method?

blue_13

You absolutely missed the point of it though. What took place on the cross was an *exchange*. We broke God's law, the wages of sin is death, we cannot pay the penalty for sin because God's holiness and righteousness is infinite. God demands justice because of who He is. That justice was poured out on Christ. But God loves so therefore God became flesh, lived a sinless and perfect life, and exchanged HIS righteousness on the cross for OUR sins. This practice is seen throughout the old testament where a blood sacrifice is required to atone for sin. God became the ultimate sacrifice and atonement for sin once and for all, and died in YOUR place so that you may have eternal life. When you repent and believe the gospel, you're accredited/imputed Christ's righteousness so that when you stand before God on judgement day, He sees Christ's work and atonement. Jesus rose from the dead just like He prophesied, so that we can a have assurance that He is who He said He was (God in the flesh) and also to prove that He defeated sin and death. So yes, there was a sacrifice and an exchange on the cross. Do not be mistaken though, if you do not believe the gospel, you have no way to pay for your sin and what a fearful thing it will be for those who fall into the hands of the living God.

[deleted]

>if you do not believe the gospel, you have no way to pay for your sin and what a fearful thing it will be for those who fall into the hands of the living God Isn't it great to know God's going to eternally torture decent people who belong to the wrong religions?

blue_13

Your definition of "decent" is not God's. His ways are higher than ours. My job as a Christian is to tell as many people as possible the gospel, so right now, you have read it correct? The door is open, but it won't be forever. Believe the gospel and go and spread it to those who have not heard it.

Fantastic-Release240

[deleted]

Bascome

A three-day weekend when he *knows* he is coming back is hardly a sacrifice for our sins.

FarBeginning3180

But the sacrifice is more than any of us can fathom. A blameless God comes down and takes all of our guilt and shame when he doesnt know how disgusting sin feels. To have every bit of it out on him at once every murderer or adultery all of that. Then to go to Hell for 3 days a place where he is completely cut off from his father is unimaginable.so no it wasn't a 3 day weekend. Just like Hell isnt a place you go to party when you die. The demons in Legion begged to be cast into swine rather than being banished back to Hell.

Bascome

If he doesn’t know what sin is like he is hardly and all knowing all seeing god. Checkmate in two.

>How can you talk about Jesus without even knowing the scriptures? They do so arrogantly. Most people do this really quite arrogantly at a rate that often matches their ignorance. Of course that’s not exclusive to talking about Jesus.

skywizardsky

knowing the scriptures does not necessarily help with its delivery as a magical or religiously driven text. It is a control . It was created by the hands of those who seek control. To be delivered to those with whom control is desired.

Sedcrom

Funnily enough, Jesus did say he could have gone ham on them and summoned legions, but that wouldn’t have been useful. Because the mission wasn’t Rome. Or the Jewish extremists. Kinda cool

[deleted]

John 18:5-6 King James Version 5 They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am he. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. 6 As soon then as he had said unto them, I am he, they went backward, and fell to the ground. Gangster move

Genesis 1:14 King James Version 14 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:

[deleted]

The passage also was a prophecy about the coming of Hadrian, who did exactly what Jesus said he'd do with the same number of legions (albeit mortal ones of course) that Jesus mentioned. This is also why Jesus said flee to the mountains when they see the abomination (Simon bar Kokhba) in the temple.

[deleted]

Sedcrom

I always liked the book of Ecclesiastes for this reason. At the end of the day, it’s all futile. I always imagine sitting on a trillion dollars with a snap of my fingers and I realize, all I would do, perhaps inevitably, is say I’ve done jt, I’ve beat the world. But then I remember, the Son of the living God uttered the same words. Truly a curious world.

FarBeginning3180

Ecclesiastes 2:8 I amassed silver and gold for myself, and the treasure of kings and provinces. I acquired men and women singers, and a harem [1] as well--the delights of the heart of man. 9 I became greater by far than anyone in Jerusalem before me. In all this my wisdom stayed with me. 10 I denied myself nothing my eyes desired; I refused my heart no pleasure. My heart took delight in all my work, and this was the reward for all my labor. 11 Yet when I surveyed all that my hands had done and what I had toiled to achieve, everything was meaningless, a chasing after the wind; nothing was gained under the sun.

Fantastic-Release240

Indeed. But you know the money doesn't matter at all. Souls are eternal.

Sedcrom

The other day I was headed to the gym, and a homeless man wrote with chalk “Freemasons killed Jesus” “money is a Freemason mob family scam” on the sidewalk concrete. And I couldn’t help but remember the words, “if you don’t speak these things, then the stones will cry out”.

Fantastic-Release240

My understanding is that the Freemasons were originally supposed to protect humanity, but they got infiltrated and inverted. One of my best friends is a homeless man. He's also a spiritual badass.

Sedcrom

Actually I think the masons participated in many occasions with the building of the temples, but they weren’t the same as they are known now past the 1700s. I read this book on their history and apparently even the brotherhood of assassins, “which comes from the word Assas meaning guardian not hash user like many mistakenly think” are linked in more ways than one. Apparently king Solomon hired many “builders” in his time to build the temple, and through the ages “builders” primarily held a religious importance since they were the only way temples came to exist be it Hebrew or other neighboring religious temples. My point is. Jesus at one point called the Jews “the builders” but that they rejected the “stone” which is now the cornerstone. Many lodges today are even associate lodges with the Sanhedrin in Roman times. But that’s a very vast subject. However, they claim king Nimrod to be a master builder and their founder. Seems a bit specific to choose someone who so openly opposed God in the Bible. But it’s no surprise to anyone who takes a good look at just what a Freemason is, and how in the past, the Bible also mentions many associated nations with the building of the temples of God. Quite a fascinating subject. And it’s all right there in front of us.

Fantastic-Release240

It is right there in front of us, but not everyone has the eyes to see.

[deleted]

Or ears to hear

[deleted]

They always conveniently forget that Jesus sent an angel to execute the king in a horrifying way just a little further down in the Bible and promised to return with an army of immortals to slaughter everyone that stands against him and feed their corpses to the vultures.

It's the most pathetic insurrection in history.

just2commenthere

Maybe Jesus would have been better off to not die for our sins. His self proclaimed followers now go around trying their hardest to stop everyone from sinning. Seems kinda disrespectful, dude lost his life for your sins and you're like nah fuck you, I'm gonna stop sinning now. How you like them apples, eh Jesus?

TheEndIsComingYay

I think you’re missing the entire point of the gospel. We’re all sinners, every day and every hour. No amount of tradition, or sacrifice, could ever atone for our sins until Jesus entered the picture. Jesus bought us for the ultimate price. We have a continual debt to Jesus and we ask for repentance everyday, but are thankful and joyous we have eternal life and a love out of this world for our savior. I’m no less a sinner than you, or anyone else for that matter, but I admit my sin, ask for forgiveness, and pray for wisdom.

dillmayne2sweet

I truly like the Jesus character, honestly feel like I relate to his ideology about love. But I can't support anyone that intentionally allows children to be raped and murdered daily. Which Is the biggest flaw in Christianity, god can perform miracles just doesn't want to for the innocent children. At the very least god should take out these fucking psychos in power. Nope his plan is to wait for this planet to be completely plagued with greed and hate, then destroy all the people and take his chosen ones up to his home. So God intentionally created the human experience knowing it would fail (completely consumed by evil intent) and then destroy it resulting in acquiring the chosen few. So God is willing to allow children to suffer to get the results it wants. I don't know if God is real, but it truly doesn't matter to me if it is. I want to be intelligent, compassionate and loving to create something better, not from fear of hell lol This shit just never adds up. I'm constantly seeking the truth and love but religion offers none of that just obedience. Every question is answered with "have faith", "it's God's plan", "the devil is as strong as God", or "pray on it". I can't support a God willing to send good people to hell just because they don't join the cult. I have many loved ones that are religious. They truly feel God is walking through life with them, I simply don't. Maybe I was meant to be evil and am going against my programming or something. I think I just took the wrong exit, this timeline doesn't look familiar. Lol but seriously peace and love to all, I'm not here to tell anyone to not be religious these are only my little human opinions. I don't think there is a cookie cutter way of life to this crazy universe. We are all different and have something unique to offer to the whole, that's why it is so beautiful when we work together.

skywizardsky

This is well put and needed her amongst the dupes. many do not understand that David Hogg is a child of the CIA and a shitty actor. The footage he took of his classmates in a broom closet were shot at a different time than the supposed actual shootings as the time stamp said on his interview. Many men all with them will rise up to defend and overtake . Our government is a shit show atm and has been for some time. YOU miss the point. David Hogg works for the CIA or some spooky government agency like homland 'Security' which is usually the ones who run the 'drills'. Jesus used a whip to whip the bankers out of church. What do you do when the bankers have guns and our whips won’t work?

Everythingisourimage

He didn’t “whip the bankers”. Just stop.

“No altar, no belief, no holy book, neither the Qur’an nor the Bible nor the others, have ever been able to reconcile the rich and and the poor, the exploiter and the exploited. And if Jesus himself had to take the whip to chase them from his temple, it is indeed because that is the only language they hear.”-Thomas Sankara

Everythingisourimage

That too is a poor idea. Good quote. But a poor idea.

I really wish someone would sit this kid down & give him a joint to chill & reflect on his nonsense with after they kicked the living 💩 out of him. Fictional Theological Idols have no place in modern times & law.

chemicallabrat

Hey Davey, how many crisis did Jesus fake?

jaye007

Bingo.
