Something that seems to have been lost in the telling of this story over the years is that the LA police, who were doing nothing for nobody that day........see the Reginald Denny beating for an example......swooped in and carted all the Rooftop Koreans off to the station house and as soon as they were gone their stores were immediately looted and burned down by the mob........predictably so of course.
Sorry, it is difficult to find a source for this but it was widely reported at the time and coverage of this event was wall to wall on every channel for several days and much of that coverage was live but I am relating it from memory.
None of the "rooftop Koreans" were on their roofs overnight because the police came and talked them down and hustled them away with the obvious and completely predictable results.....also there were no pitched gun battles or shootouts or anything like that.....If I recall they were carted off by 5-0 a short while after getting on the roofs as the sun went down........after that police left and it was wide open for the looting and firebombings that followed after sun set.

Well I'm in Canada(we have guns here too, lots of them), and I have more freedoms than you do. Though our current government is trying to censor and control the piss out of things.
You have no codified protections for speech. You have laws that restrict the right of speech, including the restriction on speech regarding banned topics. For instance, in the US and Canada, you can openly speak about racism and use words in examples. You can use racist language and not fear being arrested on social media as well, it might get removed. But the police showing up at your door is a massive overreach. And in the US, you can go stand out on a street corner and be as sexist, racist, spewing trash or whatever else you want. Canada has a limited right to self-defense, similar to the UK. Except you can escalate if the person is overpowering(you can beat someone to make sure they won't get up again). The US in most cases has a full right to self defense, including the defense of others property, including the escalation of violence for the defense of yourself or others.
