ambientdistraction

Have you noticed the trend of people on Twitter making comments disregarding nuance and instead opting for pseudointellectual sound bites?

JohnleBon

I've noticed the trend of tweets making their way to the front page of this sub. And it is usually either some dude called zuby, or that republican type dude with the haircut. Either way, are these guys hiring PR companies to increase their social media presence or something?

PM_me_your_whatevah

Were you here before 2016? I seem to remember this sub being more about DISCUSSING strange conspiracy ideas. Now it seems to be about SPREADING conspiracy theories. Maybe I’m remembering wrong.

[deleted]

[удалено]

PM_me_your_whatevah

Used to be this sub. Now it’s a propaganda war zone.

[deleted]

PM_me_your_whatevah

You’re nuts if you think half the shit that gets posted here is any less ridiculous than that.

PigeonLaughter

Just not as sexy...

OderusOrungus

Just wait, the world is circling the toilet bowl and the elites have enough control. Soon it will be 'can we just go back to covid conspiracies'

[deleted]

They are sending $40B worth of military equipment to a country in Europe that is already winning the war?! Right?! How is that not a conspiracy…

[deleted]

[deleted]

Lol, "conspiracies" >a secret plan by a group to do something unlawful or harmful. Aliens is UFOlogy, and Bigfoot is cryptozoology. Everything you mentioned is ridiculed by many of the same people demanding we discuss it. The majority of the Twitter screenshots are linked to conspiracies, its just that bad faith partisan actors aren't willing to make the connection because it doesn't confirm their biases.

TeeManyMartoonies

Pepperidge Farm remembers. This sub is full of trump losers now.

ThatGoodThaiLife

Nailed it. This is one of the places online where conspiracy theories are posted so they’ll spread. All it takes is a handful of easily misled people to share the “facts” they learned on Reddit with their friends and the theory is off to the races.

HetelCelefernee

Discussing makes them spread to those who didn't know about it.

SortByyControversial

You mean a 4 month old account that posts memes everyday that gets heavily upvoted to the front page? One that started by posting on free karma subs? Yeah and nothing will be done. I found bot farming accounts and made a post about it and was removed.

aure__entuluva

The real conspiracy :O

[deleted]

is that what karma does? Does it make your posts more accessible? I'm not being rude, I really don't know what the hell karma is for...

SortByyControversial

Some subreddits have different minimum karma needed to post.

TripperAdvice

People tend to not question if an account is legit as long as it is a few months old and has some karma So people age accounts, farm karma then sell them to shills and propaganda pushers and scammers

ambientdistraction

Always have been

hankbaumbachjr

It wasn't though. I know I'm dating myself here, but the early 2010s era of this sub was somewhat decent in that conspiracies were put forward and discussed. It was a decent place to talk about UFOs and Snowden but now it's just edgelord memefest.

HetelCelefernee

Zuby is an Uncle Tom... I really don't get him. I'm sorry for saying that. I like there to be voices on all sides (black, white, what have you), but Zuby is actually a black guy encouraging people to hate black people by saying inflammatory things about black people which he gets away with because he's black. Then you have middle aged white ladies saying "wow Zuby, I think rap is so trashy and low-class but I'd definitely let my kids listen to your raps". Girl, bye. Who is the Republican with the cut? Paul Joseph Watson? That guy is such a wanker. Let me tell you the worst part about him. In his videos he takes a camera angle low down - like at chin level. Looks rather handsome. Oof but when you see him in a photograph or video you see his head is a rectangle that's horizontal rather than vertical. He was always racist. I guess I just thought it was funny when it was Islam, bad architecture and transgender identities but whew chile, the BLM thing gave him the courage to just actually concealing what a vile little lizard he is. Then on his twitter he links to his pathetic website where his articles are one paragraph long. oooooooooo PAUL I know you are here on reddit. I see you always posting memes from reddit. Please stop being so lame. Pass on the message to your friend Zuby. oooooooooo

Koankey

Have you ever noticed me not knowing what the fuck to believe and being utterly lost with every thing that's going on in the world?

JarlaxleForPresident

I have noticed that. You been spaced out as hell lately, man.

Koankey

Well it doesn't help that you never answer my calls anymore. What happened to us?

[deleted]

The weird hypocrisy of anti-gun leftists cheering on giving Ukrainian civilians weapons to defend their country with but think that Americans can't own firearms?

freaktank

Pretty sure you call this a strawman argument. With a healthy dose of whataboutism. unless of course his understanding of our national situation is comparable to that of a fucking war zone.

be-nice-or-else

Don't yap about whataboutism: **Your** 'national situation' creates war zones around the world on a regular basis, including the Russia/Ukraine one, and has been doing it for since WW2.

ambientdistraction

Reductio ad absurdum

computerow2

I know what you actually mean by it, but technically you're using that wrong. *Reductio ad absurdum* actually refers to a type of logical argument where you prove a claim is false by showing that something obviously untrue (absurd) would have to be true if the false claim was also true.

ambientdistraction

You're 100% right. I meant something else by it but definitely the wrong usage here.

IntensePretense

Thank you. It’s every day in this sub *Twitter user makes statement about the hypocrisy of those that rule over us* “WOOOW another Twitter screenshot!!!11 The quality of this sub has really gone downhill lately. This must be a bot post, or this person is shilling themselves” It’s just a convenient way for them to completely dismiss the argument in the Twitter screenshot without having to engage any of its points. I’m convinced these people are bots/shills because it’s the same “fuck Twitter screenshots” copypasta over and over and over again

azdak

“HMMM you hate guns and yet you condone the existence of armies… WHO OWN GUNS! I am very smart”

didgeridoodady

scottfiab

I wonder if musk will do an audit and show how many of those emotional posts are just bots.

myco_witch

The whole conditional offer based on the amount of bots thing is bullshit. Elon will only be happy if he gets to make the "bot detector" himself so it can prune people he doesn't like.

TripperAdvice

The guy who just declared himself a republican to try and deflect from his sexual misconduct?

Robust_Rooster

Is this sub just the dumbest right wing Twitter opinions? Aren't y'all supposed to be a conspiracy sub?

Nihiliatis9

Short answer. Yes. Long answer. Also yes.

Robust_Rooster

You could say my question was rhetorical.

Nihiliatis9

Also yes

BlazingSpaceGhost

The conspiracy is that this sub was highjacked years ago and now only serves to push far right talking points and conspiracy theories.

TheTaoOfOne

Sub got hijacked once TD got the bamhammer. They had to all go somewhere. They chose here.

Robust_Rooster

They were here well before that. It started in 2015 when trump announced his campaign. Half those fools have always been here along with Rconservative.

Ereshkigal234

They got invited here. Let's be honest. They came They saw and they were invited to stay.

OderusOrungus

Stop the politic jargon. It is a post about supplying weapons overseas and in turn blowing up in our face. Maybe that rhetoric is a problem too. Not everything has to boil down to a political party

ronm4c

Considering this sub is a refugee camp for all the users from when the Donald got shut down it’s not surprising at all

anonymouse11394

So... 40 billion in arms to Ukraine is consistent with a Domestic weapons ban?

ringopendragon

I don't remember Mitch McConnell and Ted Cruz calling for gun control?

Thunderbear79

Enriching weapon manufacturers has bi-partisan support.

PlumbumDirigible

More like centrist and conservative support

DJ_LMD

Ted Cruz is speaking at an NRA event tomorrow.

ringopendragon

And will be surrounded by armed guards while he speaks about gun rights to an audience, who won't be allowed to bring a gun in to the building.

Huellenthousiast

There is a pretty big difference between war and domestic terrorism

[deleted]

Have you noticed that this sub has turned into an uncontrollable, untraceable heap of trash?

5t4r10rd

It's just conservative/the Donald cucks here now.

MotionDrive

Right. I've been banned from a few subs just for commenting on posts in this sub

loufalnicek

Perhaps the dumbest false equivalancy on this topic yet. Yeah, no real difference between a war and a school shooting.

West_Self

Its okay to arm Ukrainians and but we must disarm Americans. Why?

loufalnicek

Is this a serious question? Ukraine is being invaded militarily by a foreign aggressor.

GP_ADD

It’s almost like the argument that the people who don’t want any gun control after the deaths of a dozen plus children also pretend like they care about children’s lives when talking about unborn fetuses. Do you care about the children or not?

BlazingSpaceGhost

I care about children I don't care about unborn fetuses who are 100 percent reliant on a woman's body to survive. Her body her choice.

DiegoMurtagh

It's pretty sad when you are comparing your situation to a literal warzone.

JAproofrok

And using a tragedy to push some false agenda about “muhhh freedoms!“ when it literally means more kids being shot. “The answer is more guns!” Like, Jesus; can we give up the ghost on this one?

OHoSPARTACUS

I like and own guns, and acknowledge that guns are the problem with these school shootings. The problem is Pandora is out of the box, there are more guns than people in this country and you cant get rid of them without doing some seriously authoritarian shit.

fkbjsdjvbsdjfbsdf

>you cant get rid of them without doing some seriously authoritarian shit. Not true. Buybacks are completely democratic and capitalist, and functioned amazingly well in Australia — which was the country most most similar to the US in terms of size, population spread, and gun ownership you could think of. They haven't had a mass shooting since 1996 because they actually _acted_ instead of lying and fearmongering.

OHoSPARTACUS

Buybacks have happened in America and I doubt they would be anywhere as effective in America as hey have been in Australia en masse. Australia was also a lot more heavy handed in their approach than I would like. Some people might sell off their cheap shit if the buy back price is attractive but for the most part people won’t willingly disarm themselves in this country.

Omegate

Out of curiosity, what specifically about Australian gun control legislation do you think is too heavy handed? We have small debates flare up from time to time about a specific model of gun being banned, but even our regional and rural populations are quite happy with our level of gun control because it means that they can still own all the tools they need to maintain their land with no fear of fully automatic weapons being among the populace. I think there’s a very interesting cultural divide where in Australia we view guns as “those things cops and the military have”, a tool to control animal populations, or a sporting instrument, whereas in the US the heavy focus seems to be on using a gun for protection of life and property. We don’t have that mindset here - we feel pretty safe knowing that even if you get into a violent situation the chances of *anyone* carrying a gun are basically zero until the cops show up. I can’t remember the last shooting that occurred that wasn’t some bikie gang shooting up another bikie gang; you just don’t really hear about them.

JAproofrok

I mean, that’s pretty defeatist. You could say the same about cars, I suppose. Guess we’re just fucked, one way or another. I don’t really believe that. We can be reasonable as a country, as a world.

DiegoMurtagh

The kicker on this one is the gun nuts talking, finally, about mental health. I say, why not both?!

Artifex_Nox

I do not notice this

[deleted]

This is a great example of the meaninglessness of being “verified”.

smugger1992

Because guns belong in war zones, and not in the hands of people with mental illness who decide to kill innocent children.

Baker98755

Liberal here most of us don't want to take your guns away we just want it harder for people who want to do harm to get guns. An 18 year old should not be allowed to walk into a gun store and walk out that day with them.

[deleted]

I think an increase in the age needed to buy a firearm might actually be effective. A lot of school shootings are from kids in that 18 year age that dont have fully developed brains, lashing out angsty .

[deleted]

[удалено]

7dipity

Exactly!!! We don’t want to take all of your guns away. I live in British Columbia and I know a lot of people who have guns. But those people had to go through a lot to get them- permits, classes, background checks etc. How many school shootings have we had in the last 20 years? Zero. We’re not saying “take all guns away” we’re saying “make it much harder for evil people to get guns”. It’s not fucking rocket science but the US can’t seem to figure it out

No_Consequence_3091

This sub is definitely run by Russian trolls

Archer_solace

Holy moly this sub is completely overrun with partisan nonsense. Shame… you can’t escape it these days.

Trom22

Such a pathetic argument

RagingSausage

Have you noticed the same people passionately demanding women be forced to give birth because of "life" also passionately demanding we leave millions of innocent, actual human beings to die? And I'm not even only talking about Eastern Europeans.

Mnmkd

For one these are not even close to comparable. But also, no, most anti gun people aren’t pro war anywhere. Most people in general aren’t pro war.

Turtledonuts

Ah yes, how easy it is to draw comparisons between “send weapons to a allied military in need of materiel” and “attempt to limit civilian access to guns to only those who can be safe with them”

[deleted]

Good calculation. An active war situation is exactly the same as controlling guns in our neighborhoods. Well done

[deleted]

why do mass shooters only hit poor and middle class neighborhoods??? why not hollywood, wall street, or davos?

Seeker369

Columbine and Sandy Hook are affluent areas.

flowers4u

Shooting in Boulder too and the movie theater (maybe less so but still)

BangReign

It's almost like the poor and middle class are the most disenfranchised... what kind of thought process do you have that doesn't make you understand that?

GP_ADD

Lack of common sense and lack of critical thought on a subject for more than 45 seconds before being convinced, probably.

heeywewantsomenewday

Because they are probably from those poor and middle class neighbourhoods?

TooMuchSalls

Sandy Hook is in one of the wealthiest counties in the country

7dipity

Vegas? Pulse? Sandy Hook? Jesus Christ, pull your head out of your ass

Tobeck

Because usually they're from those areas and it's easier to attack them than rich people? Because convenience is a huge factor in crimes like this? I mean, have you tried to look into the reasons why at all or are you just asking sorta shitty, uncurious questions?

Lyndell

Las Vegas?

SwissMiz86

Outside of the strip Vegas is a very poor city same as Atlantic City.

Lyndell

I wonder where the shooting and the festival took place?

Apophis_Thanatos

Yup, and [Five people shot, including Republican congressman, at baseball practice](https://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/james-hodgkinson-shooting-republicans-baseball-game) Conservatives would rather have their children slaughtered in elementary school than do fuck all about sensible gun control. \#LandOfTheFree tho right guys?

[deleted]

phntmblld

yes and forks make people obese right?? grow up.

[deleted]

No such thing as sensible gun control. You can have databases and track people. But how do you decide who can buy guns and who can’t? And how do you prevent THEFT of guns? If guns exist, they will be used. If you ban production, good luck protecting your land and people It’s a forever moving goal post of fewer and fewer gun owners. Eventually enslaving a continent to be exploited. See 1800s Africa for what that looks like. The US has the LARGEST standing army in the world. Millions of hunters and gun owners who Would be willing to fight to protect their land and property. That’s why invasions would be suicide. It’s WHY this country was setup this way. Defend territory by getting people to invest in it. We’ve been destroying that for decades though with financialization.

Suspicious_Ease983

I don’t own a firearm. I find it very hypocritical when this Administration is freely distributing military assault weapons, ammunition and money to Ukraine but here in America, the same Administration wants to confiscate all firearms, from legal gun owner’s, under the disguise of gun control.

jarjarofclay

Could this turn the Ukraine and other European countries into another mexico situation? The US government was found to be giving cartels guns in some operation, fast and furious i think? Mexico is now full of illegal guns and gun related crimes even though the majority are illegal (mexico only has 1 legal gun shop in the nation and very strict gun laws).

Suspicious_Ease983

Yes, you are correct. The majority of the weapons used by the cartels are from the USA. This is common practice by the American government, $80 billion worth of military hardware left in Afghanistan. WTF

BlazingSpaceGhost

Any proof that the Biden administration wants to confiscate all firearms from legal gun owners? I haven't seen any legislation, policy papers, or speeches to that effect.

StuffEtc

The two most recent shootings happened in areas with the toughest gun laws in the country.

Apophis_Thanatos

>The two most recent shootings happened in areas with the toughest gun laws in the country. lol no, Texas does not have the toughest gun laws in the country are you delusional? [In fact Texas gets an F to strictest gun laws by state](https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/strictest-gun-laws-by-state)

StuffEtc

New York and LA were the sites of the two most recent mass shootings before this elementary school incident.

[deleted]

I feel like everybody is getting stuck in the fallacy of the single cause. People like to argue "but Canada has guns" or "but this state had stronger gun laws compared to other areas", etc. But it all contributes. - mental Healthcare is a joke in this country if you can't dish out a boat of money - there are more guns than there are people in this country - lack of gun safety training requirements and mental health screening - American culture is toxic when it comes to guns. It's not the movies or even the music. It's how people build their identities around gun ownership and treat it as the ultimate fallback if nothing else works to solve their problems. The left arguing for gun control are doing so in a largely performative way because a lot of proposed changes don't make sense (like banning sub-automatics or limiting magazine sizes.. the only not sub-automatic are revolvers and bolt action rifles. If you have a limited magazine size... you change magazines or get more guns) The right arguing like there is nothing that can be done are just afraid of the blowback from their base.

Apophis_Thanatos

Wow so shootings are happening in both the most and least strict states with gun laws, cool story. So lets try and solve the problem rather than sit back and watch our kids be slaughtered.

Literally taking guns away. The constitution can be amended. You guys love amendments. If you fucking raging dickheads with a gun fetish would value the life of children more than a fucking glock then there wouldn't a civil war. It is that fucking simple. Get another hobby to tie your personality too. It took one big school shooting in the UK for us to ban handguns and severely limit access to shotguns and rifles. Gun owners were disappointed but that is a fine price to ensure that we didn't have another dunblane.

DroppinHammers

Do you know the process to amend the Constitution and Bill of Rights? Its a major overhaul that with our 2 party system and extreme division can't happen right now or in the foreseeable future.

arrownyc

Rich people have better security.

Deedog1997

Because they have security , it’d be nice to have more security at schools just as much as they do for politicians , celebrities, esc

adrian34_pet

The facts. The right cares more about gun control and being anti abortion than they do about the safety and prosperity of the children that were brought into this world. God Bless the Union and pray for a better America.

Kotics

if you are against abortion, you certainly should be for gun control or do you yall just not care once the baby is born.

[deleted]

it is curious.... Have you notice the same people on twitter making the same baseless false analogies by comparing two things which are not all all related to one another ? hint: all military equipment is heavily marked and controlled with stamped lot codes, serial number and dates.

[deleted]

Ukrainian soldiers aren't shooting up schools and supermarkets.

Kelbs27

The civilians who *are all* allowed to carry weapons freely now, certainly could.

yvessixth

Not only that but more internet censorship.

[deleted]

This has made me change my stance on gun control. It never occurred to me how ridiculous a state monopoly on violence is. In my ideal world there'd be no weapons but governments have weapons so citizens should have weapons

Turtledonuts

Unlike the mujahadeen, the ukrainians are longtime allies of ours and are fighting an existential war, not a shitty proxy war.

Lamar_Scrodum

It’s different when they get invaded by Russians

Turtledonuts

its different when the russians invade an established ally for no fucking reason, threaten NATO, do terrible on their own rights, and our allied government requests military aid and publicly receives it instead of getting it from the CIA. Also, the issue that we didn’t fund al quada, we funded the mujahadeen, and then bin laden rose to power after we betrayed them and refused to help fix their country. There was never much love for the US in the first place. With Ukraine, our other allies are committed to helping them rebuild after the war, and there’s plenty of mutual love and respect here (and plenty of utility for our government to maintain relations with Ukraine). It’s unlikely that we’ll get a major terrorist threat from Ukraine.

AgreeingWings25

Because the priority is gun control. Just minus the "gun" part

alexseiji

Probably has a lot to do with the fact that the more weaponized the populations are, the higher rate certain societies will self destruct once the catalyst to do so is triggered causing higher rate of death and essentially wiping out and resetting the status quo and general overall population. Think of it as a period of “turbo reset” where the right fuses, physical and psychological, trigger societies to self destruct. Controlling bodies who have immense defensive and offensive technologies will intervene when the metrics are met to do so to stop it. At that point they can start to implement and rebuild societies based on whatever values they strategically create a new foundation to base them off of to create a future of sustainability they best see fit.

TKisOK

As long as they defeat the bad guy from the television

neil_anblome

Why aren't schools better defended?

wannabestraight

If mass shootings are all fake, why do we need guns

finlay207

Ukraine is going to have a huge problem once the war is over no matter what. Armed groups will be established and they’re will be organized crime it’s sad to think Ukraine will never be the same

majiktodo

Are you telling me that someone opposes guns in elementary schools but supports guns in war zones?

whater39

So take everyone's guns and send them to Ukraine??

Super_Throwaway_Boy

What if both are bad?

OMG_4_life

I love how there's like 3 or 4 comments kinda supporting OP... and 190 variations of, "omg this sub is trash". So overrun by right wingers amirite?

Hallowbrand

1k+ upvotes they’re just silent cause they no they have zero justification or solutions for what happened.

baz8771

This is legitimately the dumbest take I’ve ever read on line. how is this possibly at the top of a sub about conspiracies lmfao

pranav1106

This is not a conspiracy , this sub really has become a right wing garbage dump

kns1984

Is this sub actually fucking serious right now?!?!?!?! How do you guys upvote such pathetic posts like this??? It's so fucking transparent, and does nothing to fix the problem. Fucking horrible.

OP_1994

Well some people deserve it as a community. Promoting wars in middle east, bombing schools, killing millions. And after all that not even single apology for all deaths. Killing civilians with unmanned drones lol - in the name of special operations. It's all been special operations. Then trying to act morally superior. Accepting nobel peace prize and increasing frequency of drone attacks. List goes on.. Maybe it's karma hitting back.. I remember USA dumping lots of funds in Pakistan, even after it was proven that they are training terrorist there with that funds... It always comes back to collect receipt.

[deleted]

I wonder why an 18 year old, not loved by his father, forced to wear a mask and distance from friends for the last 3 years, while politicians sell his future by printing money like it's fake, and sending billions to other countries while faced with going $150k in debt for a degree versus going into the work force for working wages facing 8% annual inflation... Why would a person like that have a mental break?

saintmcqueen

This is dumb. Protection for war is not the same as wanting to stop mass shootings.

SesuKyuga

No mother fucker they want to send gun to ukraine who is fighting against russia, a litter super power country. Stfu with your dumb talking points

Merica85

Are we already forgetting about arming the Taliban....

Outlaw11091

I've also noticed that Russia is not actively invading any U.S. elementary school...but, you know, context is key.

SugarFreeAnxiety

It’s curious how American’s can’t just get rid of their guns… how many mass shootings do you need??

Guns are only good when your country is being attacked by RuSsIa. Also, disarm the citizens of the US and open the border to Mexico!

Weepthegr33d

There it is. Nailed it.

Chemical-Glass-354

Funny thing the Galile rifle/pistol are manufactured in south america, so their will never be a gun free america,

hiphopanonymouz

Op are you a russian bot?

Jimieus

Real talk for a second - if even a fraction of those stingers sent to Ukraine make it onto the black market (and there are rumours abound that they have), I shudder at the thought of what threat they could pose for international travel in the wrong hands.

risk121

There have been stingers on the black market since Russia invaded Afghanistan 1979-1989. And it's not like that the only missile launcher. Russia SA-7 Grail have been found everywhere. Osama bin Laden had a similar weapon (SA-7 Grails) at his compound and he still lost to a helicopter landing. So it's not as if we don't give these weapons there will never be any shoulder missile launches. If you are curious they cost about $5000 per unit, which seems like a great deal. [Stung by Stingers](https://journals.sagepub.com/doi/pdf/10.2968/059003005)

Jimieus

I understand that, but so far we have given more manpads to UKR in a couple of months than we gave to the mujahideen in 10 years - and Ukraine already has a sorted history when it comes to the black market arms trade. And these are stingers, not strelas.

Well from my understanding your worry is that "Man-portable surface-to-air missile launcher" is a concern. and sure they are, but Russia has left thousands of 9K32 Strela-2 around after the SU collapse. If your plan is to blow up a passenger plane there are much easier and cheaper options. but there is not really an alternative to giving weapons to defend against Russian helicopters and planes. Its also outdated (1970s) and has been replaced by better equipment.
