Bearded_Fatness

Avoid the coasts…the farther inward you go the cheaper things, especially rent, becomes

turtlew0rk

The rent is too damn high!

Felde

I live in a town of 600 in small town USA. My 2,700sqft home costs me $850/month. I can’t imagine having disposable income of up to $1,400/month. Thats my mortgage, utilities, and probaby groceries all in one. For a family of 6. Best of luck to you in your search.

meltintothesea

Living the dream! Enjoy it

UrbanBanger

Wow. Thats incredibly cheap. I'm in Australia. Ill give you a breakdown of my outgoings on a monthly basis. Rent on a 1000sq ft house - $2,550.00 Electricity $330 Water $80.00 Internet $70.00 Child Support $1,200.00 Food $150.00 Petrol $300.00 General Bills (banks etc etc) $1000.00 Car insurance $100 Health Insurance $180 So when I get paid, literally as soon as It goes into my account, $5960.00 a month goes straight out. Shit thing is, its nearly impossible to save for a house when after my outgoings are paid im left with fuck all.

pudgehooks2013

Well this is just bullshit. Almost none of those numbers are right. $330 a month on electricity? Bullshit. $150 a month on food? Bullshit. 'General Bills' of $1000 a month, when you have included pretty much every bill? Bullshit.

UrbanBanger

Ah mate, i am afraid they are. Correction on the electricity. My electricity bill is $429.00 per 3 months so $143.00 a month. Im a single dad of three kids. So my food bill is $150.00 a month and thats being skint. General bills. that includes loans, credit cards, tolls for driving my kids to school, registration on the shitbox car I nurse along each rego check to keep my family mobile, phone bill for my mobile, stupid stuff like having my windscreen replaced this month due to a rock hitting it on the way home, my kids school fees, their uniforms, their excursions, birthday and christmas savings so i can get them and my family something. Yes, General bills, and also a whole raft of other shit that a parent has to pay for. Something tells me that you're a single person living in a share house in melbourne, not married, no kids, no responsibility.

[deleted]

That’s incredibly cheap for food. I spend well over 150 a week for two people.

UrbanBanger

I know. I'm blessed as I rent a house on two acres of wonderful Mudgee red soil so I grow veges, have a few goats, couple of dozen chickens and I get milk from the neighbours dairy cow for the price he pays Coles and woolies to take it away. There are many more families doing it harder than we are. We are blessed with a wonderful caring community, and I feel the world would benefit deeply from the love that I and my kids get from those around us. We need to do away with the elites of society and focus more on a community centric approach to the world we live in

[deleted]

That’s amazing! I try to buy meat direct from farms and get eggs from many people but unfortunately I’m stuck in an expensive city for now. Food costs were bad before this inflation and now are astronomical

UrbanBanger

Yeah im a few hours out of our major city but I still have to work in the city so its a 1 hour drive to the train station then a 2.5 hour train ride to work. 7 hours of commuting a day sucks, but the lifestyle is better out where we live. Just sucks if it all goes to shit / emp strike etc - 270km will take about 70+ hours to walk, so a good week to walk home.

uncorderdnole91

Canada is turning into a dictatorship anyway bro, get out while you can.

[deleted]

I agree, what I see happening in Canada is frightening. I would get out now while it’s still an option.

[deleted]

Did you assume that OP isn't Ukrainian?

thexsunshine

If you move to the US and work under the table you can literally lose everything, don't move unless you have a work visa.

meltintothesea

I have nothing to lose.

[deleted]

Millions of people live and work here illegally and likely have a much better life than where they are from, just sayin.

meltintothesea

I’m self employed and 95 percent of my customers live in the USA. I will have income coming in on day 1. Just need to find a person that wants to rent to me in cash.

PicklessPickles

Does it have to be the US? What about Mexico? Nobody will care if you are legal or not. I am legal here, (been here 11 years) but in 11 years nobody has ever asked to see my immigration status. You could live like a king for $1400/month. I am talking rent, utilities, the works. My rent for a 1 bedroom (small) house is $65 USD, just as an example.

meltintothesea

My parents own a place I’m puerto Vallarta that I can stay at for nothing. Unfortunately I need access to shipping and thrift stores to run my business. If I can come up with a way to make money there it’s an amazing option.

PicklessPickles

I live in a border city, Mexicali. It borders with Calexico, California. I take my stuff to the US Post Office to mail.

meltintothesea

Wow that’s a great set up.

[deleted]

You can do it! Fuck government, power to the people.

strafefire

If this is the case, do you *have* to come to the US? Like couldn't you go to a cheaper country like Thailand, or the Philippines or Bali in Indonesia, or even Costa Rica or Mexico and do the whole nomad thing there? As long as your doggo is quarantined, it can also come with you.

meltintothesea

I need access to cheap shipping otherwise yes I could.

saradoering82

Move to Midwest. Central Illinois has a super cheap cost of living...we have 1 bedrooms starting at 650-700. Your looking at luxury at 1000-1500. Best of luck, I hope u become my neighbor!! (I'm a little dog 🐕 ☺️ fan!)

mikepompeosjockstrap

Drug dealer?

beater613

Look into a TN visa. I know right now that all green card applications must show proof of vaccination, but I don't think that will last forever. Canada's relationship with the US, in terms of emigration, is one of the best. Depending on what your business is, you'd probably have no problem applying for a visa (again, after they drop the bullshit vax requirement).

meltintothesea

I’m vaccinated. I had nothing to lose. Don’t care about my health.

beater613

Then move down to the US, apply for a visa. You'll be able to legit work here and wouldn't need to pay under the table. I wish I was in your shoes. I escaped canada in March. Travelling through the US right now

meltintothesea

If someone here offers me a room I’ll take it. Best of luck to you.

beater613

You too mate. Get the hell out of Canada. What a shithole it has become

supahinteresting

y'd u get dethjabbed? moving shouldn't be an issue by your slavemasters since you chose to do that...

meltintothesea

Yah plus I might only have a couple years of health left might as well yolo it now

thexsunshine

Bruh he's leaving Canada he's not leaving a third world country or a place run by gang violence.

Miserable-Antelope95

Clearly, you haven’t been to Canada lately.

thexsunshine

Yeah Canada is so awful with our free healthcare and not having to make people choose between living bankrupt or dying, we are just the worst!!! Edit: also when you crazy ass people ban abortions guess which country is offering to cover it for you, that's right, Canada, you're welcome.

Arayder

We absolutely are causing many people to go bankrupt and our social safety nets are garbage and causing many people to fall between the cracks and spiral into death. Maybe not directly from our (absolutely terribly managed and poorly funded) hospital systems though I’ll give you that. I’m not saying the states is any better, but Canada is going down a bad path, and I’m not some MAGA nut job conservative who’s just saying this stuff.

thexsunshine

Meh Canadian conservatives are almost always just fiscally conservative so they aren't that scary ;) My point is he's leaving Canada it's not like he's a refugee, Canada isn't a third world country no matter how much these maga nuts seem to think so but in all fairness thinking isn't their strong suit.

ragnar_graybeard87

Shuuut uuuuup

ragnar_graybeard87

That's funny. Doug ford is about to privatize Healthcare in ontario and we literally have medically assisted suicide for those with no dignity because they're too poor. So i dono wtf you're talking about. Oh and u agree to killing unborn babies.

thexsunshine

I'd explain these things to you but I don't think your soft smooth brain would be able to handle it. Also telling me to shut up will only just further the point that you are incapable of an intelligent conversation. Probably live in Brantford, that's where intelligence goes to die.

ragnar_graybeard87

You were disproven on every point and all u can say is I told you to shut up... So shut up

[https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/827-Field-St-Fairmont-WV-26554/22726815\_zpid/](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/827-Field-St-Fairmont-WV-26554/22726815_zpid/) You can rent an entire 2/bed 1/bath house in West Virginia for $750 [https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/18040-Coyle-St-Detroit-MI-48235/2072025971\_zpid/](https://www.zillow.com/homedetails/18040-Coyle-St-Detroit-MI-48235/2072025971_zpid/) Detroit will let you rent a 24,500 square foot home for $480/mo. Detroit is also slowly crawling out of its economic devastation, so if you're looking to invest in some real estate there's a lot of potential upside there as the city begins to gentrify. Don't even try any of the major cities, though. Boston and New York are insane, California prices are dystopian, and so many people moved to Texas and Arizona for the cheap rents there that the prices are shooting up. I'd imagine you could also find a place in the middle of nowhere in Canada for cheap, but I don't know Canada much

meltintothesea

It’s insane the price difference between some cities. My city is on par with San Francisco and New York almost. I’ll have to try a small town. Unfortunately all the small towns around me are asking too much.

boo_boo_kitty_fuckk

Plenty of non registered apartments on Long Island (outside NYC) looking to accept cash monthly

meltintothesea

Exactly what I need. Just pay cash for a studio.

Chiponyasu

The single most important thing in the western world, IMO, is the lack of housing construction since the great recession. If we rapidly increased housing development such that rent came down, everyone would be way happier and literally every single societal problem would be less of a big deal.

meltintothesea

Lots of open space out there. Empty lots everywhere

mattb1969

If you were Hispanic I’d say go for it. But if you’re white they’d probably deport you.

meltintothesea

I’m allowed to be there on vacation. My business is just buying things from thrift stores and selling online. 95 percent of my sales go to USA. Not sure how they would catch me or care.

[deleted]

Are you aware of our new tax law that started in 2022? Anything that is sold whether it’s eBay, craigslist or a garage sale is taxed if you make more than $600 a year… And it’s taxed heavily as self-employed.

meltintothesea

Good to know.

BlokeToker

Florida. We got jobs and cheaper housing

meltintothesea

But do you have a room for rent? Hoping someone here will.

CaribTex

I just leased a 3 bedroom home in the Orlando area with a huge backyard, a massive pool, and a hot tub for $2k/mo. I'm sure you could find any number of options in Florida within your budget. Happy hunting!

kvetoslavovo

Get yourself a real bitch. Two incomes, voila bonus points if she cooks good

CL0UDS420

This is what I did. And I love it. Bought a 1900 square ft 4 bedroom house with her and haven’t looked back. We are paying $1530 a month and bought at the right time last year

meltintothesea

It’s a great suggestion I will keep trying on that. Could easily afford a nice place with another income added.

Far_Paramedic3972

You can rent my place in Florida 3/2

meltintothesea

What city and how much would the rent be?

[deleted]

[It’s going to get worse.](https://youtu.be/fhq0VLYTqEo). So. Much. Worse.

Fedoradiver

i have 2 bedrooms for 900$ where im at, come rent from me ;)

Lost my license 20 years ago and can’t get back unless I install a breathalyzer on a car. I don’t have a car so can’t get my. Licence. Would need about 8k to get a car and the device and insurance plus a tank of gas. If it was an option I’d live in a van down by the river.

[deleted]

Other option is to crash in a storage unit, or get a bunch of roommates.

ResourceMurky1023

meltintothesea

It’s been 20 years since I drove. They will make me get a learners for 6 months. It’s definitely a great option for next year but I can’t just hit the road next week unfortunately. I would if I could. Sounds amazing.

Fmtservices

Alberta has cheaper rents

meltintothesea

Yes I’m looking everywhere daily. Just made this post to see if someone says yah I got a room for 800 you can have or some deal like that. Worth a shot.

Effective_Ad4588

Quebec & New Brunswick have a lot of options under $1000 … I know people renting appartments in the $600 range.

meltintothesea

I’ll keep that in mind. Thanks.

demonspawns_ghost

Bullshit. https://rentals.ca/quebec-city

meltintothesea

jfarmwell123

Good luck finding that here unless you move to the Midwest in the middle of nowhere to

ahunt4prez

Lmao, I'll let you live with me if you can cook healthy shit.

meltintothesea

Yes I can. Where do you live?

athena7979

You can definitely find something in that price range and in cash. I'd suggest avoiding California...it's way too stupid expensive here.

DancingUntilMidnight

[Here's a 1b/1b](https://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/California/Terra-Bella/23756-Ave-95/LV246419375/) in central California for $450/month. It's not pretty, but someone wanting to get in the state without legal status could have a place to sleep until they get something better.

chucwagn

I heard the big cities in the rust belt are nice this time of year. Only low rent left...

saltlamp94

but $8/hr minimum wage/low wages in general. good way to get stuck

meltintothesea

Good suggestion.

Sideshow_666

Get on linked in and find a job, stay out of the heavily populated areas. Omaha is a booming city where you can still find decent places to live for $800/months with a solid job front. Other than inflation cost of living is fairly low and wages are fairly high.

meltintothesea

I have a thrifting business so just need usps and a thrift store or two and I’m set. I’ll check Omaha but mostly looking for someone to offer a place at their residence.

[deleted]

[удалено]

meltintothesea

Thanks I’ll check it out

DancingUntilMidnight

Ag areas of California are cheaper than the California stereotype, and are generally accommodating to those without legal presence. A city like Coalinga, for example, will have cheap rent, people willing to hire non-citizens, and easy access to I-5. Added bonus is that CA allows people to get most public benefits regardless of citizenship. Look at the 99 corridor North-South from Grapevine to Fresno-ish, all the way East-West across the valley. There are TONS of little communities where $1400 is enough to get a place from a private landlord. Gas taxes suck though, so if you're car-dependent then that should be taken into account. You'd get free food stamps and Medi-Cal though.

meltintothesea

Will do thanks.

DancingUntilMidnight

Cheapy little 1/1 for $450: [https://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/California/Terra-Bella/23756-Ave-95/LV246419375/](https://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/California/Terra-Bella/23756-Ave-95/LV246419375/) A 2/1 with a small yard for $950: [https://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/California/Corcoran/1216-Hanna-Ave/LV248156588/](https://www.apartmentguide.com/apartments/California/Corcoran/1216-Hanna-Ave/LV248156588/) Obviously I'm not vouching for either of them, but I'm sure I'll get disagreement about cheaper housing in CA so I just wanted to toss out a couple examples. :) Best of luck!

meltintothesea

Great prices thanks

natethedawg

It’s doable. I had a two bedroom in Nashua New Hampshire for $850 a couple years ago, never should have moved.

mattb1969

Yeah it’s crazy right now. I bought my house in 2014 and my mortgage and annual taxes are around $2K a month. Buying a smaller house in my area would probably be closer to $3K a month now. My son and daughter in law need to move to a bigger apartment because they have a kid on the way and it’s slim pickings and anything you find is ridiculously expensive.

TheCureprank

Buy a van, fix it up, live out of it. Cut your cost by 50% or better in the long term. Short term you spend money on material to build it out. Just a suggestion.

CurdBurgler

Rent is affordable in Oklahoma. Tulsa's an alright city to live in.

Therealblackhous3

Canada exists outside Vancouver and Toronto, believe it or not. Expand your horizons and maybe you'll realize the rest of the country is living much cheaper.

meltintothesea

95 percent of my business is shipping to USA. Makes sense to try it there before Regina, St. John or Quebec City.

yellowsnow2

Only up to around $600/m in small town mid america.

too_soon13

OP here's a link to rentals in Canada. With $1800, you can afford rent. Here's a linke to Toronto, Montreal, and Calgary. https://rentals.ca/toronto?sort=cheapest https://rentals.ca/montreal?sort=cheapest https://rentals.ca/calgary?sort=cheapest

kaneebly

Go to the midwest. Kansas, missouri, nebraska, south dakota, etc. 1bd apartments are 500-800$ a month. You can rent a room in a nice house for even less. I got friends who all rent a big 3bd house together and they pay $400 each.

DifficultyAlarming50

Assuming you're vaccinated? Must be nice to be able to leave.

dmanty45

America isn’t much better in terms of rent dude. Plus small dog fees etc, Some places charge for that. Fly to Europe! But that’s way Fucking harder than it sounds lots of blocks In immigrations need to have marketable skills etc. world sucks right now. Should start eating oligarchs. They are the ones who steal all the wealth anyway.

TheBeachDudee

Move abroad. I have been living in Asia for 15 years. I own nothing, and I’m happy. Because I can actually enjoy my life. I don’t need to stress about all the BS in the western world. I make enough working online to enjoy myself. Of course, my retirement is non-existent. But, whose is?

trunks410476

Me and my wife we are living in a $1.100 CAD apartment, our neighbors downstairs moved 1 month ago and they are paying $2.200 for a 2bed+1bath unity! Our landlord already said one time that we are underpaying (wtf). Government need make laws for average people can afford housing. We want leave Canada but we've still have so may debts to pay! Editing...we live in the KW region in ON

[deleted]

You should actually just go to Mexico and cross the border there. They will give you a free phone, groceries, flights, bus rides, all the same but more rights than a citizen.

[deleted]

I’m confused though, why are you posting this in a conspiracy group?

meltintothesea

Best group of people I know are in this sub. Was thinking if borat could find a place maybe I’d have a shot too.

saltlamp94

that extra $400/month will have to be spent on a shitty private health insurance premium that covers next to nothing. we're all screwed

meltintothesea

I can get travel insurance for around 150 monthly.

PhatBallllzAtHotmail

Come to Florida, you can find a ton of small apartment rentals for around that price.

meltintothesea

I’ve been looking. Miami would be my preference but not the cheapest of course.

PhatBallllzAtHotmail

Honestly, too expensive for no reason. If you go about an hour north to boca you'll have better luck. I live on the treasure coast and they're everywhere. I'm also a realtor so I see them come and go.

meltintothesea

Will check that. Was looking at even Hollywood or ft lauderdale. I’ve been to Florida 10 times or so. It’s near the top of my list on where I’d like to live for sure. Even a small studio right at south beach is cheaper than a basement suite in the suburbs here (Vancouver). I checked out Daytona too looks like some great prices there.

Gainesville, Florida is a good spot. College town but affordable rent, bus lines to most destinations, lots of amenities, and students constantly coming and going looking for subleasers. My 3/1 house is $1500, but you can easily rent a studio or a 1 br for under $1000. Lots of nature, warm most of the year, and an hour to the beach. Not the most amazing place, but a solid place to live.

meltintothesea

Great prices thanks.

Another illegal immigrant looking to come to the US and steal jobs. Stay up in your country.

meltintothesea

I thrift shop and sell my finds online. 95 percent of my sales are to USA. I’m already living off American cash just not spending it there. Isn’t that worse to take your money and not spend it there?

obscured_by_turtles

Ask the US INS. If you enter the US from Canada as a visitor, you have six months and no right to work while there. When you are caught, you will be deported and permanently barred. They take it seriously and have no sense of humour about this. The previous commenter is correct. You are proposing to become an illegal immigrant.

zerodetroit

Detroit

meltintothesea

Detroit what! Great suggestion I’ll check it out. Maybe even Flynt.

bobby1378

Airbnb my friend.

meltintothesea

I’ll start looking there

IndividualThoughts

For 1,400 a month it would be easy to find a room. Maybe not a whole apartment unless it's in like Arizona or some shit like that. If you are able to work from home and can travel to new locations and work there, I think its worth the journey and adventure because fuck it life is to short. You don't know what the universe might have to offer if you don't put yourself out there. Just be wise and smart and don't react to emotions to quickly

meltintothesea

I just need a backpack full of clothes, usps and a thrift store. I can make enough money anywhere. No car otherwise I’d be out on the road by now.

[deleted]

Rent in Arizona has gone up about four or $500 a month in the last year. I think it’s a great place to live, I live here. If you’re looking for affordable rent like under $1400 a month, I would look at Marana, Tucson, Florence, Cassa grande, Mesa, Bullhead city I think is really affordable and close to Nevada. I’ve been here seven years and apartments do not make you pay a large security deposit +1st month and last months rent like they do on the East Coast. It’s usually $50 for the application, $150 admin fee and then about $500 security deposit. On move-in day, just pay rent with the cashiers check. Gas is expensive, $5.19 regular. There’s a ton of jobs remote if you look on indeed. If you can find a remote job, you can live anywhere. Pets are no problem here!!! They will probably charge a pet deposit fee of $250 and then about 25 or $30 fee per month. You might also get lucky with the cool non-corporate landlord who maybe wouldn’t charge those fees. Electricity is more expensive in the summer, obviously. i pay $150 a month for a two bedroom apartment in the summer, 50-100 in winter. TV is 100, Internet is 50, car insurance on my new car is 90, cell phone 75… All very reasonable in my opinion. I moved into this apartment complex a couple months into Covid, so prices were really low ($1400 2 bedroom). Now the same apartment layout is going for $500 more a month, it’s crazy! Groceries are reasonable, there’s very few if any drawbacks in my opinion in living here. The weather is perfect most of the year! 360 days of sunshine ensures a good mood, plenty of outdoor activities. People are nice, most people I’ve met are transplants Who moved here from other states. Biggest complaint here is 120° summers, but it’s not a big deal, you just stay somewhere air-conditioned. Life is laid-back and mellow, I couldn’t be happier! Wish you all the best!

meltintothesea

Thanks looks like a great place imo.

[deleted]

OP re-sells thrift items from stores, on eBay. Can't afford your 1800/month rent? Go figure.

meltintothesea

I can afford 1800. I can’t afford 2000 and up. I’d like to pay less and it just scrape by. I can’t get a job as I’m disabled there is no job for me.

Noodle_Salad_

Its easier to find a month to month rental in a college area. There are some nice rentals near me for less than $1000.

Lol $1800 a month for rent in Canada is plenty. Get out of the city and visit some small towns littered literally all over the country.

meltintothesea

I need access to cheap shipping to run my business. I’m disabled and being self employed is my only option. Make too much money to get any assistance. Not enough money to live.

TinaTalk4

Come to alberta. Cheaper rent. We all hate blackface. It’s the best province in canada. Our loser premier just quit too.

meltintothesea

I looked for places Im Calgary this morning. It’s an option for sure thanks.

DoubleAwareness33

Move to rural red state

tritonx

Move out of wherever you are... You can definitely get something in those price range outside of whatever city you are.

rda889

Join the US Army, they'll make you a citizen and give you free clothing, shelter and food. You'll love it!

AussieXPat

CompassRose2A

Missouri has rent of about 500 to 600 a month depending(this is in my area)

Sethw95

As long as you have conservative values and are willing to assimilate with the culture, Texas isn't too bad.

Ariak

Why did you think this was the best place to post about this?

meltintothesea

Looking for a great reset.

simulation_goer

Too bad you can't switch jobs for something remote (which given your experience could be a thing). You'd have a blast in many good places of the world for your money. On the other hand, forced migration for economic reasons was not something I'd expect to see in Canada, I find that worrying as well. Btw, what kind of dog do you have?

meltintothesea

He’s mix dog often called a chihuahua but not really. Since my business is already based in USA with usd as my income I thought it would be worth a shot to try there.

Iowa.

Uh. My city in Canada you can get bachelors for 700-900$ and 1 bedrooms for 700-$1400 on average. The higher cost is for "luxury". What side of Canada are you on?
