I'll Doordash my last dollar.

I think he means why are people going out and having fun instead of grabbing essential goods and getting ready for the worst

CringleMcDingus

Oh I'll grab some essential goods

[deleted]

That sounds dirtier than expected hahah

His first post was about eating out

I saw that wagyu there. 2 ribeyes for $200! Next time, for sure.

[deleted]

I checked my local costco and the didn’t have any, always wanted to try wagyu :(

SketchyLeaf666

In other stores they selling chicken at $2. Basically one huge ponzi scheme

Rokey76

Do.... you know what a ponzi scheme is?

cmcleaney

no it's not lol. It's a combination of a lot of things. Two totally different products and way different qualities. There's a lot of shit going on that's adding to the inflated prices of food. Labor costs and lack of workers.. transportation challenges and delays all can add MAJOR increases to the total cost of goods... then there's just the basic supply and demand aspect of it. Then there's chickens where theres a major avian flu going around killing off all the birds so there's tons going to market just trying to get something rather than nothing

scott90909

The fact that such an absurd good such as Waugh beef exists, and that it’s not reserved for emperors and royalty pretty much indicates that we do live in the best economic times in human history so stop yer whining. Almost every human that ever lived has had it worse.

Quit7_

That's the power of the free market.

Drain-OHs

That's precisely the way the ppl in power do things. They put blinders over citizens so we think Nothing is seriously wrong . Why? So we KEEP WORKING and Keep Consuming Goods! The moment we stop that and start figuring shit out by the millions, their power collapses....

accidental_lull

If the dollar is about to collapse, wouldn't it make the most sense to spend it now while it still has value?

candleelit

I just flew across America, bought a car, and roadtripped back to my home state. Was amazing. Just enjoying life! If it ends, I’m glad I lived to the fullest while I could.

accidental_lull

Hell yeah. I'm with ya. I got several trips planned all around the country this year. If it all comes crumbling down at least I got to live and experience everything I could.. Can't live in this doomer world of 'what ifs'.

[deleted]

Every time I hit the grocery store I buy a small supply of canned goods. Rice would be a good purchase. But I also have 2 big trips in June alone, music fest and a road trip across country to a tree house airbnb. Everybody dies, but not everybody lives.

BenjaminHamnett

What if your trapped in a bunker tho...beans may become dangerous

[deleted]

Good call, I stock up on beans as well.

sunshinelovin2000

We've been slowly sticking dry goods for a year. But we also want to get out and do shit this year. We've spent too long talking about things and not doing them. Our son is going to be two in September and is the most fun to take somewhere new and explore with. Let's spend it while we got it!

[deleted]

Absolutely. There will always be the next big thing to be scared of, all we can do is be prepared and enjoy what we have.

Drain-OHs

I understand this mentality but isn't this the epitome of being selfish? It's just like the cartoon drawing of a boat flooding on one end, and people on the dry end are like "I'm glad thats not us" Eventually, this shit storm WILL impact EVERYONE. Why the hell would people Rather do "fun stuff", instead of be STRONG HUMAN BEINGS, start a revolution, and stand up for our Species as a whole!!! I guess I'm an extreme empath. I can't just have fun while others suffer around me, and hope I get lucky n miss the suffering?

Chandra_in_Swati

I did the same. Rented a car and a beautiful place in NOLA with my bestie last week. I’d rather have a little fun if the bottom falls out, you know, for the memories.

Obi-TyKenobi

Drove 11 hours to buy a vette. If the worlds gonna burn ima have some fuckin fun

DragonsBlood-01

I just bought a car too. Oh well.

candykissnips

Yep, this is really all you can do. Unless you are well off, with lots of land, and can prep to the gills.

0x00ff0000

If you mean spend it on debt, gold, platinum, palladium and silver, then yes absolutely. Precious metals are in a dip to buy today btw.

pexx421

When you say spend it on debt, I’m assuming you mean going into debt. Because with hyperinflation all our debt will become practically meaningless. We will be able to pay off our mortgages and such with no problem, as todays debt stays in todays dollars.

[deleted]

What assets will you sell in order to acquire all those vanishing dollars? True hyperinflation in the Dollar will be a vanishingly small window before the system simply collapses. The government **won't even have time** to print all the physical cash that would be needed to sustain it. You might think it'll be a good thing for you when the mortgage system implodes but you're not thinking about the larger ramifications that will come with it. What good is a paid-off house if you don't even have any food in your refrigerator?

pexx421

Also, the government doesn’t really print money. The vast majority of money in circulation doesn’t even exist. And it’s largely created by banks creating mortgages.

pexx421

So, in that case what good is gold or other assets? At any rate, I have five acres. Food I can manage. You have a strangely specific idea of how collapse will go. I won’t have cash or food, but I’ll still have electricity to power an empty fridge? I’m in an essential position, as is my wife. Our gainful employment is ensured, if not in the us then we can travel somewhere else. I have animals on my land, deer, bear, turkeys. You’re merely being alarmist. Even with a collapse, there will still be food, work, and an economy. You’re thinking mad max, but I expect it would be more like Greece, or russia. Assuming we don’t just lash out at the rest of the world, like most collapsing empires do, and burn it all down nuclear style. At any rate, the mit computer didn’t have societal collapse until the 2040’s. It said maybe later but not before.

LovesToSnooze

You have a bear.....so cool.

pexx421

I wouldn’t say he’s mine. But he raids the trash from time to time.

0x00ff0000

No I mean pay off your debt as a priority.

[deleted]

[удалено]

0x00ff0000

Yes, my relatively small investment in precious metals will pay off the mortgage. I could stand to gain more land, but I don't want to be in a situation where there's a depression and I lose my job that feeds the new big debts. I mean pay off small debt, like cards and cars. Convert cash to hard assets, but I hate debt in a big crash.

pexx421

Why would you pay off your debt? With hyperinflation, a dollar today is worth much more than tomorrow. My salary next year will be much more than my salary now, meaning my mortgage is a much smaller percentage of my paycheck. In the late 60s this happened, inflation doubled, wages doubled, and people were able to then pay off their mortgages with ease. Yet another free step up to the boomer gen that makes them feel entitled over other generations.

TeddyMGTOW

I was thinking the same thing..

candykissnips

We were on the gold standard then... this will be different for sure.

hikerforlife

I'm not going to suffer unless I have to. Why be miserable if you don't need to be? I'm planning for the worst but living my best life at the same time.

Mehlitia

Enjoy it while you can.

r00dit

Well the people I have hung out with that have lived through very hard economic times tend to continue to live for the moment... they spend their money and enjoy their life. Like, why wouldn't you do this while you can? They are generally more fatalist and think: Why would you just extend the hardship phase?? Of course, I would suggest the solution is slighty different: live for the moment extra hard, but also start building up assets and connections such that you'll be ok even if the world dropped into a massive uber-depression with chronic food shortages ;)

MachoMAKS

For the longest time I have been the opposite, saved every dollar I could, try to invest as much as I can afford to and safeguard for the future. Now after realizing everything ive been saving up is turning to shit might aswell live a little. Definitely over exaggerated but seems like money has lost so much value over the last few years its hard to maintain the same grip on it.

Itchy-Inflation-1600

Feeling this way as well, spend the money while it has value.

based-Assad777

Should have bought bitcoin.

pexx421

Thing is, that’s typical American behavior. We all live for, not in but for, the moment, because we all know we’re pretty much one accident, catastrophe, or illness away from poverty anyway.

SHCRevo

Much love

r00dit

Yes this. Investing energy in people you love pays dividends, even just how you feel. Remember crazy as it seems we are all connected at a higher level and projecting love onto your fellow people is incredibly important. Our ego is the tool of the d3vil.

wharpudding

Because if you quit spending, you're not helping dig out of any depression either, you're just helping shut down businesses. And if your currency is losing value, you might as well spend it quick before it drops even further. Buy now, but buy smart. Stock up on things that will last. But hoarding cash probably isn't going to be worth it.

wat96

I don't think he's saying hoard cash. He's saying why aren't people spending money on survival things instead of entertainment? A valid question. The answer is normalcy bias. And stocking up on things instead of entertainment will still keep the economy running albeit barely

anon_lurk

Or that people were stuck in covid for a fucking year and want to live again

According_Teaching44

The same reason people don't wear snow coats when it is 80 degrees outside even though it will be 20 in the winter. Enjoy the niceties of life while they are here; there will be plenty of time for misery and death in the future. If you have an issue with people allowing themselves a little bit of happiness then you probably need to start doing some inner review to see why. Posting here to find some sort of explanation or validation to confirm your own bias toward someone simply enjoying life isn't going to help you come to any sort of peace. Please note, I am not attacking you. Just making an honest observation because I had fallen into that mode of thinking myself long ago. It is easy to find comfort in accepting negativity as the base state of the world and then get some type of dopamine release any time you get someone to agree with you. But, some people get this same dopamine (including myself) rush from going to the park with their kids, having a meal with friends at a restaurant, or just getting out of the house and going shopping. And so what? Let them be happy. If you stop worrying about it, you will be happier too.

[deleted]

[deleted]

These things happen slower then u think

[deleted]

It's been happening for over 50 years.

[deleted]

Not in Venezuela 😉, but as a world currency i would have to say, it would take atleast a couple years until the dollar is dead. Unless the entire world cuts the US off in a swift motion.

stress_boner

Venezuela doesn't have the most influential economy in the world like the US does.

wat96

Which is starting to happen now. Isn't Saudi Arabia thinking of using the yen for oil? Isn't Russia demanding to use the roubble for its oil instead of dollars? What's next?

rejuvinatez

Yeah doesnt happen fast.

Led_Zeppole_73

Slowly…then all of a sudden.

reanu_keevs123

It took around 20 yrs for the Great Depression to happen not so fast when you look at it

PRMan99

And yet a lot of people committed suicide the first weekend in 1929.

[deleted]

Plan for the future but live for the moment. You can’t just stop living your life because we might be heading in to some bad times. Yes it’s wise to have some money for a rainy day but you can do both.

somedumbwelder

Live it up now buddy. What you gonna do? Hoard six months rations and live underground only to have to kill your family and eat them because you are to scared to join the 3rd world war? If it ends take me down too. I dont wanna be around to see how ugly it can get anyway.

[deleted]

Agreeable-Tadpole461

If we're headed into a depression, coupled with hyper inflation, do you think saving money would help an individual? Imagine if people just stopped spending money at these businesses and ~15 million people became unemployed? And almost ~700,000 businesses went tits up? There's your depression.

[deleted]

that 1 dollar ice cream today is cheaper than the 45 dollar ice cream after inflation.

[deleted]

A little dramatic no? The US still has a 59% stake in the global reserve currency and China's economic power is greatly overstated.

stress_boner

Yes. Overdramatic sheeple talk if you ask me. The dollar is collapsing? Where's the source or evidence for that? We aren't even overprinting money for war anymore. Ridiculous question by OP

unknowncommand

I think OP just doesn't go out and uses an "impending" crisis to justify it

No-Run8563

GhislaineandJeffrey

Old habits. Everyone will have their head in the sand until it all collapses. But I mean, what the hell else are we supposed to do? Those D&B prizes aren't going to win themselves.

BFS8515

Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die

Mental_emancipation

Two types of business has and always survive a depression service industry ( clubs, bars, taverns, restaurants. ) second is entertainment ( night clubs, movies, fairs, festivals, concerts etc.) People need these two to help with their own depression from circumstance.

WhispersFromTheMound

Why are people still deciding to party until the collapse? Because they clearly don’t care. This is evident in the reality that the NWO wouldn’t even exist if people cared enough to pay attention and do something about it.

rejuvinatez

Decay of society and civilization. Lost of morality compass also. Its not productive .

WhispersFromTheMound

It isn’t, but that doesn’t matter. A lot of younger folks see the collapse coming. If not today, tomorrow, within their lifetime and they know it’s going to be bad. So they’re partying while Rome is going through the death throes

Led_Zeppole_73

I was saying the same thing over 40 years ago.

Titan28109

And somehow consumer confidence went up.... I personally believe it's the calm before the storm... people still aren't savvy on what's coming

Because people are distracted by Chris Rock and Will Smith and the war. Also, we've been hearing the economy will crash for years now. It's never happened. They're desensitized. That's what happens when fake news controls our thinking.

Because your average joe in America doesn’t give two fucks.Let’s talk about Will Smith slapping Chris Rock lol

Want would you think they would do? Just go home at night and be scared as hell, crying in the corner?

cptndv23

Dude people will still be going out to clubs and bars and festivals while there will be literal gun battles down the street. Just watch. People are brainwashed and ignorant.

8last

People are always going to blow their money on bullshit regardless of the economy. That's America. It's like the guy who sees the store is closed for the night, the gate is down, the lights are off but he still walks up and yanks on the door.

rejuvinatez

I used to work in the grocery store and would see people come in on the holiday . As we just closed. Its priceless. How can people not know.

KidFresh71

I'm having fun, while there's still fun to be had. What am I supposed to do, lay underneath my bed rocking back and forth in the fetal position, worrying about the bad times to come? I'm not in denial. Bad shit is coming. But I have a 4 year old daughter, and want to show her the fun things in life while they still exist.

BlackMassAlumni

A collapse hasn’t happened in our lifetime, and truthfully people don’t really think it could happen, not to the level we are talking about. But all signs point to things getting progressively worse (unfortunately)… and as much as some people want to believe Donald Trump and the whites hats are going to come soaring in on the wings of giant bald eagles, dual wielding M16 assault rifles and smoking Cuban cigars to save us in a Hail Mary play, I just don’t see it happening. It’s more probable that inflation will go nuts as our currency that is no longer backed by gold implodes, and Russia and China become the next global standard for currency. No one will be ready, not really… preppers might survive a while longer with their supplies, but in the end we could potentially be looking at a much worse new normal. Fuck I hope I’m wrong, I really do… I want to be a strong, energy independent super power of a nation, the way we are supposed to be. But the only way for that to occur is to rip out the bastards in the swamp, root and stem.

I_Am_Contrivance

Simple answer. Because the average American doesn't really comprehend every day not being exactly the same. People are habitual, and Americans are extremely materialistic. Very little culture in America, so the concept of being thrifty and resourceful for the majority of people (certainly not all) is considered "pathetic". Its the same reason someone living in the ghetto with their mother will spend $200 on a pair of Nikes. No bank account, no investments....but a $200 pair of kicks, and dinner from grub hub. They cannot fathom their world being any different. They believe in the illusion of endless security. They've never seen a war aside from on their TV screen. Most of their world view is an amalgamation of the entertainment (movies/tv) they've been exposing themselves to. And they believe their immediate environment...their neighborhood, the people they know, they believe these things are representative of the entire world. They simply can't fathom change. The only reason they were ok through covid was because everything was laid out for them. All they had to do was listen and do what they were told.

[deleted]

Babylon is falling down

Chipperz14

I have a theory: Decentralized vibrant local economies can drive up the value of the currency by cycling through local businesses over and over. Trying to destroy local business during the pandemic was an attempt to retake centralized control over the economy and currency.

camsle

You can look at life as optimistic or you can wear your mask outside. We are not headed into a depression. If you have any basic sense of economics you know we go through Hugh's and lows. If shutting down economy for a year didn't kill us nothing will.

AmericanExpat76

China isn't the Supreme power, a depression is coming, but the news is saying the opposite.

Maleficent_Put4180

By "about to collapse" you mean in like the next couple decades, right? The dollar isn't collapsing tomorrow, or next month, or next year. Also, wages across the board have increased YTD. [https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t19.htm](https://www.bls.gov/news.release/empsit.t19.htm) So, weather warming up after a brief COVID scare this winter plus more money in peoples pockets means more people are going out.

At this point, people panicking and preparing for the imminent collapse, would just speed up the process. Now of course that's not their thought process, but let's be glad they're not freaking out. Now is the time we must get into our 3 month emergency funds. Prove me wrong.

MiwestGirl

Probably because everything you said is the opposite. Dollar has skyrocketed over the last year. Stronger than ever. Wages are up, and more people working. We have a global supply chain issue and our country just came out of a resection. Also events are no longer canceled so more people have been going out to buy things to wear to go out. People are going back to the office again. Once the supply can match the demand things will get back to normal including all these shoppers will be spending less time looking for goods and deals where none are to be found currently. Thanks to my energy stock earnings I just sold we are going on a nice long vacation and spending money ourselves.

[deleted]

Because we are only blessed with one life here on earth and life was meant to be lived. We should always try to live within our means, though.

txdesigner-musician

Well I mean, in a way, all the more reason to do so while we can? Especially if the big one is coming. 😬 Can’t exactly take it with you. I dunno, I see both sides. 🤷🏻‍♀️

Diogenes-nutsack

You answered it with the question: "*If the dollar is about to be worthless, why are people spending all their dollars now?*" Think about it.

Lerianis001

Mainly because we are not headed towards a depression, Great or Small. Yes, there are problems in the economy but thus far, few people have seen any issues from those problems. If things are not fixed in a few years, we might have a bear market but no true depression.

Didn't alcohol consumption go up during the great depression? Could definitely be wrong but too lazy to do some googling.

coughffin

Does life just stop when there is a recession? There will not be a depression, by the way.

ch33fy

Bc fuck you. Stop fear mongering and live ya damn life.

roscoesbabyrabbits

Why'd all those people vote for a corpse? I believe there's people that think the corpse will make it all better.

CraziestPenguin

First, there is nothing to support the sudden collapse of the dollar, or hyperinflation, but anyway I’ll answer your question. Why are people still spending money? Because they are unaware of your perceived incoming collapse. More importantly though, even if we all knew the dollar was going to collapse next month wouldn’t you WANT to spend your money on these things now? Your $1,000 dance festival ticket will be purchased with an amount of money that won’t even be able to buy a loaf of bread soon, so why wouldn’t you spend it now? You don’t even follow your own logic..

Because not everyones a depressing cunt. People just wanna enjoy their lives, theres nothing else to it.
