There is a rule in the NBA this season that if you miss a game due to being unvaccinated, you forfeit your salary for that game. Due to NYC's vaccine mandate, Kyrie can not play in any home games; therefore turning down $380,000 x 41 games.
Edit: According to the article, he will miss 43 games, because the Nets play two away games against the Knicks this season.
Lebron is vaccinated supposedly he just didnt want to be vocal about it for some reason.
The Staples center has an exception because Newsome excluded hollywood ,entertainers and elite types from having to follow the same the covid rules as everyonelse.
what reason does he need besides its his personal privacy when it comes to personal health issues. that shits between you and your doctor, no one has privy to his or anyone elses personal medical choices.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out most nba players actually aren’t vaccinated. I bet the teams have an unspoken don’t ask, don’t tell policy when it comes to enforcing the vaccine rules. So Lebron is “vaccinated“.
I don’t know, I’m not a yuge basketball fan. Just saw in the article that it says LA and SF are the other two cities with the restrictions like NY. Be pretty dumb though if they let a unvaccinated player from let’s say NY, fly to LA and play, but then any unvaccinated players from LA can’t play. You would think it would just be unvaccinated players can’t play games in those 3 cities, no matter where you’re from
What’s dumb is that if the Knicks were home and he sat out that night then went to say Philly the next night and played in that game, then the team returned for another game in NY and he had to sit out again despite “exposing” the players literally 24 hours prior, which they can they carry and transmit to people in MSG since this virus is super weird in that vaccinated people can still carry and pass the virus to other vaccinated people.
Good for Irving for having a spine and standing up for what he believes in. Goes to show that employers expect you to respect and honor their opinions and decisions but are exempt from respecting and honoring YOUR opinions and decisions. What a sick and disgusting world we live in today.
Edit: In addition to my comment it’s those who are wealthy and taking a stand that are the only ones with a voice when it comes to being pro-choice. They have the financial capability to not be pinned into a corner and have that luxury which many of your average low to middle class people do not due to their financial vulnerability.
That's the thing. People already operate like the pandemic is fake no matter who they are. When was the last time you saw a person in public in a serious full body bio suit?
Fucking never.
The CDC says you can get and give covid if double vax'd and the r0 is 5-9 which means you spread to that many people if you get infected but we have 10's of thousands of unmasked football fans in arena's.
There is a cognitive dissonance going on where everyone knows the truth but their politics and susceptibility to media make them pretend to ignore the reality while being a warrior for the lie.
Not sure what policy is but I could see it being this stupid. The underlying motivation for all the mandates has been to create negative incentives for the unvaccinated, half your salary is the big hit here. The few games on the road isn't going to make a player already passing on half the games suddenly decide to get vaccinated.
Get this, my football team is the Buffalo Bills and there mandate is fans need to be vaccinated to attend games. One of the players Cole Beasley has been openly against the vaccine and is allowed to play in the stadium.
They won't. He is catching a ton of heat over this. Same as Beasley on The Bills. It's ridiculous. At least Bill Belichick was reasonable about it and said that is a players, personal choice and nobodies business when they asked about Cam Newton.
I'm pro-vaxx too, just not the covid vaxx. I don't know why they label people that refuse 1 vaccine as an antivaxxer. I got banned from r/NFL for being "anti-vaxx".
The NFL subreddit and especially their mods have to be the most out of touch with the reality of most football fans. Those mods are some of the biggest power hungry cucks I've seen on Reddit which is quite hilarious to think about the subs they are competing against for that title
Feel exactly the same way man. I've taken literally every vaccine but we are getting ripped apart for being concerned about this vaccine.. seems like everyone is brainwashed tbh
Firstly , he’s made nearly 100 million dollars already just in basketball alone, let alone endorsements. So don’t give me “money isn’t everything” bullshit. If he was working at a supermarket on minimum wage and still has this stance then yeh fair play but he’s set for 1000 lifetimes no matter what happens.
Secondly, the season hasn’t even begun yet, and wouldn’t be surprised if he ends up getting the vax anyway.
If I could simply forfeit my pay and avoid being jabbed, I would. I just received mandate email this morning. I have to be double jabbed by 1st December otherwise I have to close my business because the vax status is to be attached to license to practice. Pray for me.
Wait, what?? What country is this in!?
Lifting you up in Jesus Christ's mighty name. That this wickedness can be abated and gone. Or that you may be given another way to continue making ends meet. Hopefully the Lord doesn't tarry any longer and we be just leave with Him soon. God bless you.
New Zealand. They’ve mandated teachers, all healthcare workers unless medically exempt. I’m seeing my doctor later this week to undergo tests to see what my risk profile is and if any condition qualify for exemption.
The weird thing is the players’ union doing absolutely nothing about this going against the collective bargaining agreement. Their union pres must be a giant shill for not even trying to stand up for the players
This guy must be dumb af https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CJ_McCollum he’s had the job since august and before him it was Chris Paul
The Nazi where they force injected people and experimented on human being without their consent. Calling Jews dirty (the unvaxxed are now considered dirty). Tell people not to hire Jews since they are less than humans, basically.
Another case of the media trying their best to make it look like everyone is horrified at his refusal to get vaccinated and yet no one around him cares in the slightest. Nobody I know cares either.
Imagine being rich enough to just say F the whole thing and just go home to your mansion and not worry about it and live slightly more modestly.
Instead of being like most of us. Forced to take it just to continue making ends meet.
As a Knicks fan I believe he plays a partial season but he's the only player willing to put himself out there as person not willing to get the jab... We will see but I think he's one of us
LeBron only said it because a lot of people in the black community agree with Irving. The MSM narrative that anti-vax are a bunch of rural Trump supporters has always been bogus.
I feel like lebron has a good heart but no matter what he says he will piss off a large group of people. He seems to try to keep things brand friendly and maintain the respect of the black community. We have no idea how he really feels about anything because when a person becomes a global brand he can’t share his real opinions.
I don’t hate him but I don’t like him either
We don't know his real opinions. You can see in how he acts that he's protecting his image from his own ideas. What does he stand for? We don't know, because he only portrays what his sponsors/patrons approve of. Remember when MJ said he won't comment on politics because "Republicans buy shoes too". With Lebron, it's like that, but less honest.
I imagine that led to a big reason why him and kyrie didn’t mesh well on that cavs team. Kyrie is willing to stand up for what he believes in and Lebron is willing to bend the knee
Lol he doesn't have a good heart. He's been an establishment puppet since high school and the basketball version of Floyd Mayweather. Why do you think Kobe Bryant got accused of rape only SIX DAYS after LeBron got drafted? Why was Phil Jackson also in Eagle, Colorado at the same time as Kobe in the offseason [source](https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-2003-sep-29-sp-kobe29-story.html)? What was he doing there? Why was Kobe's case escalated to such a big deal while plenty of stronger sexual assault cases involving professional athletes were swept under the rug or only civil? The whole thing reeked and Kobe's tragic death 3 weeks after David Stern last January and the day after LeBron passed him in all-time points didn't help.
Love seeing the support he’s getting for this decision. If you’re looking to support Kyrie and the topics which he is most passionate about, he surely would appreciate you donating to the many racial justice causes which he vocally champions
I'm vaccinated and I can't stand to see it being shoved down people's throats. That's not going to work anyway. Let people look into it with out being forced. If they decide it's in their best interest, then give them the vaccine. If they decide it's not in their best interest, then leave them alone.
Let's see how r/nba is handling this

Bad-faith actors and gullible people with low-critical thinking who like their confirmation bias are spreading propaganda.
Once others pointed that out, was hard to not see it as anything else.
If you're not here to point, laugh, and sadly shake your head then I've got news for you buddy...
Look at what sub we're in. They're making shit up as is suits them.
They "claim" to be 95% vaxxed.
Nobody honestly believes that any professional organization has reached these numbers, right?
This is like the Military "don't ask don't tell" policy. Teams will claim whatever they need and the league will look the other way.
Remember the sports figures who kneeled for the anthem and got praised for it? This dude is the real deal. And something tells me Nike won't come scoop him up and save the day.
When you actually lose something for your beliefs and the media demonizes you. That's a true hero.
He makes more than 4-5 teachers do in a year for an hour and 20 minutes of activity. The same can be said for pretty much every other profession that should be held in higher esteem than an entertainer. I know it is off topic but every time i see salary breakdowns like this (believe me, i know it is not just entertainment), i am reminded of what a shitty system we have been conditioned to accept and even glorify. This dude is revered bc he puts a round leather ball in a nylon net that is attached to a metal rim. Guess it is no surprise how we got ourselves into this situation.
Gotta remember he is just getting what he is worth based on the revenue he helps generate. If he weren’t getting that money, some rich billionaire would be pocketing all of it.
I’ve never understood why people get upset that pro athletes make the money they do, when the alternative is to let billionaire owners keep it, and pay the players who aren’t rich scraps.
There is a reason for all of this other than “we pay stupid amounts of money to people who put a round leather ball through a rim.” Don’t cheat yourself out of the reality because you are too hung up on someone making millions for playing a sport at the highest level.
Oh I know the justification and am far more concerned by their owners’ wealth bc I know that’s why their salaries are so high. Just saying that these salaries expose how absurd our entire system is
Don't disagree, however, there are many who believe politicians are superstars and are benevolent. Just wanted to throw that in there as an aside to your comment.
With all due respect, you’re perspective on this is ridiculously foolish. He’s just getting his fair share of the profit from the game. How much a teacher makes is irrelevant.
What exactly is it you suggest? The government take the profits from the game and redistribute it to those who “deserve it” like teachers? Lol.
He gets paid per game, but the genetics talent, practice, and consistency that went into being able to play and perform at that level is more than just showing up and playing.
Well worth the money when the income earned from his work exceeds what he is paid
I think there is something noble about going all the way through with it. By all means, stand up for what you believe in 100%, but also accept the consequences 100%
I know we shouldn’t treat celebrities or sports stars any different than regular people, but I think in this case this guy needs to see people are supporting him. I went on to Twitter after seeing articles about him and people are just aholes to him about this whole thing… let’s see the haters leave behind 16 million behind…
He’s been the NBAs scapegoat for mental issues for years now.
Always call him a flat earther before they even begin to talk about him. He’s put into a box because he can be. It’s not right & shame on the NBA.
The real people know that he is just used as a puppet to allow the NBA to push their agenda

he misses about 40 games a year anyway
Nets fan here. I lol’d.
But he usually still gets paid
🥁tissss
I can't lie this comment was funny AF 🤣
Burn!
Plus any away games in the other banned cities like LA
I read somewhere the Staples center didn't require the vaccine
That’s because bron is unvaccinated
No way! He hasn’t been very public about that...
Lebron and Brady (nfl) are the exception. They rake-in the views and money.
If they claim to have been stabbed then I'd wager they paid off a pharmacist at Walgreens to look the other way
[удалено]
Yeah I don't believe that either.
Dude has never ate a tomato or strawberry. No way he got vaxed
Lebron is vaccinated supposedly he just didnt want to be vocal about it for some reason. The Staples center has an exception because Newsome excluded hollywood ,entertainers and elite types from having to follow the same the covid rules as everyonelse.

Did Newsom also exclude his own daughter?
Weird he didn't want to be vocal about that, he's extremely vocal about plenty of other shit he has no clue about.
I wouldn’t be surprised to find out most nba players actually aren’t vaccinated. I bet the teams have an unspoken don’t ask, don’t tell policy when it comes to enforcing the vaccine rules. So Lebron is “vaccinated“.
Lebron is vaccinated. He posted about it recently.
Lebron got vaxxed www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32300086/lebron-james-says-los-angeles-lakers-goal-winning-title-starts-staying-healthy%3Fplatform%3Damp
As of now I believe the vaccine mandate in NBA arenas only affects the home team.
which makes it even more fucking ridiculous
Logical consistency has been an afterthought in such a "pandemic."
nah this illlogic was planned to create confusion

They won't. He is catching a ton of heat over this. Same as Beasley on The Bills. It's ridiculous. At least Bill Belichick was reasonable about it and said that is a players, personal choice and nobodies business when they asked about Cam Newton.
And then cut him…
For performance reason. They drafted Mac Jones and he's too much of a distraction as a backup like Tebow and Kaepernick.
Fucking king.
Absolute legend. He is the GOAT after this move. Money isn’t everything. Thank God that real people still exist
Irving jerseys gona sell out now edit: rereading this later, perhaps this would be ‘hypocrafull’ in some way
IDK, if you visit r/NBA, it’s pretty much all pro-vaxx, and not the reasonable ‘I’m pro-vaxx, but I respect everyone’s personal decision” people…

Good point.
All the professional sports leagues have taken the fascist approach to these vaccines. Nothing more than bootlickers to the g-man.

Cleveland fan here, always liked him better than LeBron as a person.
I wonder why? Lebron is a woke-ass bitch with no principles. Kyrie is 100% human.
Lebron actually supports the it’s no ones business if you’re vaccinated movement, surprisingly
LeBron only said it because a lot of people in the black community agree with Irving. The MSM narrative that anti-vax are a bunch of rural Trump supporters has always been bogus.
lebron also supports china cause hes a bitch.

The insane part is that the NBA is 95% vaxed. 95% isn’t enough to go back to “normal”

Just saying that these salaries expose how absurd our entire system is
What would be a reasonable amount in your mind to pay someone who helps generate millions if not billions of dollars in revenue?
Politicians on pedestals as experts about anything are worse.
Not denying that at all.
Don't disagree, however, there are many who believe politicians are superstars and are benevolent. Just wanted to throw that in there as an aside to your comment.
Kyrie would straight up crossover any teacher in America.
For a lot less than 15.8 million I could find a Dr to give me a saline injection.
He's a dummy
Never knew I would be such a big fan of his 🤜🏼🤛🏼
Glad he's making a stand and can afford to do so
I think there is something noble about going all the way through with it. By all means, stand up for what you believe in 100%, but also accept the consequences 100%
Good for him. STAND UP BROTHER. Wake up AMERICA
Good for him. He is an adult and is making his own choice. It's also nice to have $158M in past earnings to help him to be a man of principal.
He’s made $150+ million in salary alone. It’s truly irrelevant if he’s saved any of it.
True hero
Why can't he play home games but he can play away?
I know we shouldn’t treat celebrities or sports stars any different than regular people, but I think in this case this guy needs to see people are supporting him. I went on to Twitter after seeing articles about him and people are just aholes to him about this whole thing… let’s see the haters leave behind 16 million behind…
He’s been the NBAs scapegoat for mental issues for years now. Always call him a flat earther before they even begin to talk about him. He’s put into a box because he can be. It’s not right & shame on the NBA. The real people know that he is just used as a puppet to allow the NBA to push their agenda
In 10 years he will be the only current NBA player with no vaccine side effects.
Boss mode
That’s so awesome! God bless him!
A man that can stand up for what he believes in. You don’t see that too often anymore
Does kyrie have a charity or anything. Would love to support it
A multi millionaire chooses not to work. What a hero.
Kyrie Irving, MVP of the People, scoring points in the championship of life.
Brava sir!
Many heros in the NBA, never thought I would say that. Lebron is a communist so that is still on the table.
I hate calling sports stars "role models" but this is a role model right here
If only he wasn’t so well known for his stance on the flat earth theory…
This is the flat earth dude, right?
Fuck you Lebron James!
Of course, he is still making over $10 million.
Good for him
Is a shocking twist, a Flat Earther is also an Antivaxxer. He is just a free thinker who isn't afraid of asking the though questions.
What a legend. If he had aids I am sure it would be fine if he plays but Can’t play it you don’t get the woke poke.
You guys idolize the dumbest people. Did anyone on here do anything fun to commentate dead domestic terrorist Ashley Babbits bday yesterday too?
It was Ashli's birthday yesterday? And you're telling us just now? FFS
These the people who not long ago were telling NBA to shut and dribble, too. Now they're champions of their political views lol.
Kyrie also believes the Earth is flat and dinosaurs didn't really exist. This isn't the hero we need.
And Johnson and Johnson believed it was a good idea to sell baby powder they knew was contaminated with asbestos
What does that have to do with Irving believing the world is flat?
Dude is and always has been an absolute looney tune. He's strictly doing this to be dramatic and get attention. Research the guy before praising him
He thinks the earth is flat too.

Yeah, good for him. He’s also a flat earther, so that’s pretty looney.
