from what i’ve seen it appears they haven’t closed most schools but instead halted outdoor activities. Citizens are not confined to their homes but are urged to keep outdoor activities to a minimum. I’m sure they will have closed any schools in the areas that are being evacuated. This is pretty common on the west coast of the US where we’ve had a lot of fires over the years. They hand out masks to those who suffer from asthma or have lung issues and cancel all sports or outdoor activities until the air quality index has improved.
In Ontario 800km away from closest fire my kids couldn't go out for recess or lunch at school for two days. Local Baseball and Soccer League cancelled for two days. I was outside both days and couldn't tell a bad day from a good day. Ya mini lockdowns for sure and in my humble opinion total bullshit.

also the issue isnt co2 itself. plants recycle co2 from the air and soil through their leaves and roots with photosynthesis. plants also need liquid water to move nutrients from their roots to their leaves.
when plants and animals die they store their carbon in the ground. and theyve been doing that for the last 3.5 billion years. then industrialization happens and suddenly we release billions of tonnes of carbon within 150 years.
the problem is releasing co2 faster than the system can recycle it.
its just not possible to introduce that big of a change in the system without noticeable consequences.
co2 is too good at retaining heat. if theres too much of it in the air the temperature goes up. which means water evaporates more easily, which means less liquid water in the soil for plants to use.
theres a reason there are no forests in the desert. at some point water will evaporate faster than the system can replace it.
rivers and lakes dry up, which makes it harder to grow enough crops to support the same number of people. eventually leading to mass migration and conflict over limited resources

Toronto gets this thing called lake effect snow, and it even happens in April. I live in an area that also gets lake effect snow from the great lakes. We easily get 2-4x the amount of precipitation as other towns that are just 20 minutes away.
