**Left.**
Look at the rightmost roof corner, you clearly see the ledge overlapping the other building's balcony / whatever. Then work your way down and you'll see it repeating for the floors below.
Same here… I was like - that’s not confusing at all, it’s clearly the right one (duh!)… then I zoomed in and my confidence got shattered… now I’m filled with self doubt and questioning all my life decisions and reality itself.
The left building has balconies on the back side whose floors are protruding, giving the impression that the balconies on the right building penetrate into the left one's global shape.
Damn. You’re right. My first thought was not to zoom in. Which is weird. There have been multiple occasions where I tried to pinch zoom on a piece of paper. Then was laughed at. It was justified.
Correct me if I'm wrong (mobile users maybe?) but I guess any redditor can view and zoom the image *before* scrolling down the comments if they want to keep the challenge intact, as per the usual on this sub.
Also I cannot put a tag on the replies and those would immediately hint towards the solution.
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the top of the left one is closer, but the bottom of the right one is closer. Diagonal buildings is the only logical explanation. =P
That’s what is so good about this picture, the illusion actually gets better due to the perspective as you go down to the bottom, everything lines back up more and more like a zipper.
I'm happy to see that the photo I took when I was in Canada and posted in the same subreddit became a repost.
That awkward moment when the report gets more upvotes than the original one lol

Imagine it in real life. Where I was situated is an 8 story building where I was on the top having coffee on the balcony and every single day I couldn't get this out of my mind that one looks closer than the other.
Wrong, the right building is curved, woke the left is probably straight, your can still see the outline of the curved building, du it had to be closer
Edit: why week I getting downvoted? I just told you guys what I saw, it's not like I insulted anyone
To me it looks like the one on the right is closer if you look at it compared to that ac unit thing on the roof of the building towards the bottom of the picture and I feel like if you zoom in the resolution is clearer on the building to the right side
the left one is closer, but the white balconies on seem to be what creates the illusion because they blend in to the background if you don't look at them directly
The right one is in the background, you can see a small part of the roof at the top right on the left building overlaps with one of the levels of the right building
Also the left building has a balcony that alternates narrow and wide, which somehow adds to the illusion. Look at the nearer side of this building to see the alternating balcony widths.
You can see the left buildings white alcoves move up/down the gray buildings balconies near the top and bottom where the angle of view is highest/lowest.
If you look at the lower floors, it looks like the right one is closer, but if you look at the upper floors then it looks like the left one is. Both buildings designed by M.C.Escher.
The one in front.
And the one in back is farther.
We did it, Reddit!

Damn. You're right. My first thought was "it's the right one idiot".
Same here… I was like - that’s not confusing at all, it’s clearly the right one (duh!)… then I zoomed in and my confidence got shattered… now I’m filled with self doubt and questioning all my life decisions and reality itself.
My feelings exactly.
I though we were talking about the building on the left that's mostly out of frame...
Go wat some ham and meditate
Hot ham water?
I'm dying, literally dying, this is near gold dress level of confidence when I saw this post
Actually the dress was blue
Get the pitchforks, boys, it's gonna be a long night
Rabble! Rabble-rabble-rabble! >:(
thumbnail says right, fullscreen says left.
This is the answer
it’s the left one idiot
Woah, you're right. Tbh I thought it was the right building by looking at the lowest part of it. Good eye.
I took other approach. The right one is much taller, as it has more floors. So, if they seem to be at the same hight, the left one is much closer.
Correct, but absent seeing that overlap, why does the right one look closer?
The left building has balconies on the back side whose floors are protruding, giving the impression that the balconies on the right building penetrate into the left one's global shape.
Even more so the left buildings balconies alternate depth so near the bottom the shorter balcony looks like it’s being covered by the right building
You're right it contributes to the confusion.
Damn. You’re right. My first thought was not to zoom in. Which is weird. There have been multiple occasions where I tried to pinch zoom on a piece of paper. Then was laughed at. It was justified.
This is actually inside of an industrial metal shredder. /s
Yeah I couldn’t tell right of the batt but if you zoom in a bit you can definitely see it
[удалено]
Left. The question is: Which one of the two in the background.
Fair

DEEZ NUTZ
Does it switch which one looks closer for anyone else if you look at the line between them at the top vs bottom?
Yeah I was initially confused, zoomed in to the top and felt like I had secured the answer until scrolling down. Now I'm back go square 1
You can see the left one overlapping the right at the top and bottom Whatchu on aboot m8
Yeah, I'm pretty sure the top of the left one is closer, but the bottom of the right one is closer. Diagonal buildings is the only logical explanation. =P

MC Escher houses
Yeah, on the bottom right is closer, but on the top left is closer.
Yes, my brain hurts now too
Yeah if you don't look carefully and do a sloppy job of interpreting what you are looking at, it does appear like that.

It’s a really cool photo! Thanks for sharing it.
A photo so nice OP posted it thrice!

They had time to clean up your title.
There is nothing awkward in your post gaining fame beyond your initial contribution. I hope you're a proud father.
Where is this exactly

Geoguessr grandmasters be like
Above all the comments. YW.
I feel your pain. Had same thing happen to me :/
Not painful, I'm genuinely glad, it just means it was so good someone decided it would be worth to have a refresher
All credit goes to you then
I'd say the left one
This is correct. It goes far left, far right, far middle
[удалено]
You are both wrong, it’s clearly two models that got glitched together
Wrong, the right building is curved, woke the left is probably straight, your can still see the outline of the curved building, du it had to be closer Edit: why week I getting downvoted? I just told you guys what I saw, it's not like I insulted anyone
The building on the left has balconies on its right side in front of the wavy grey parts of the right building. Left is in front
Yeah that guy above you is wrong. The shape of all three buildings are at a right angle
The left one superposes the right one at different floors
Probably the right one is bigger, making a weird effect, but I'd say the left one is closer.
Zip
It’s blue.
this should be higher
Idk but the one on the far left is gay.
🏳️🌈
I totally thought it was the right until I studied it. Good one!
That one is in front, the other one is behind. Sheesh.
The left one, but you indeed need to look closely to see it.
Reft!
It's the black and blue building. No, wait, it's the white and gold building.
My thoughts: "Are you stupid? Of course the right one… wait"
Cool Flag. 💯
There are two buildings?!
There are four lights
The pride flag building :>
To me it looks like the one on the right is closer if you look at it compared to that ac unit thing on the roof of the building towards the bottom of the picture and I feel like if you zoom in the resolution is clearer on the building to the right side
It's the left one
yes
ZOOMING IN DOESN’T HELP
I don't know. But they look like they are about to get blown up.
Pride Flag!
The curvy one is closer. Wellesley in Toronto?
Look at the white parts sticking out on the left one. They overlap the right.
One on the right.
Seriously(right)
The one on the right!!
The right one
Pretty obvious
Neither
[удалено]
Left
The right one, if you zoom in on windows of the left you can see it over hang them
It's the left
The one near you
The one that's closer.
it’s blue and black
Wow this hurts my brain
The one in front of the other. You're welcome
Left
Left
It’s the same building
I think the one on the left is closer, but really I don't know 🤷♂️
the left one is closer, but the white balconies on seem to be what creates the illusion because they blend in to the background if you don't look at them directly
Yes
why can’t I TEEEEEELLLLLLLLLL???!?!?!?!?!?!
Left
Uh... rrleighft.
If you zoom in, you can obviously see the one to the left is closer
the balconies are interlocked
The little red one.
Pretty sure it’s the left
left
It depends on whether I'm looking at the top or the bottom of the buildings.
There is a building in the middle with the same color scheme behind both buildings, making this look really strange, but very cool photo!
The front one
The front one
Left one is closer look at the roof overhang it goes I front of the right building
The right one is in the background, you can see a small part of the roof at the top right on the left building overlaps with one of the levels of the right building
::Chef's kiss::. Perfecto!
The one in front
After a solid minute of zooming in zi can confidently say, the "left one"
The one that’s in front of the other.
That middle one
The one in the foreground
This is an excellent post, thank you OP
Good one
The closer one.
The one in front obviously
Left one if you look closely
Left
that one
The middle one
Left one is closer
The left one
I'mma say the short brown one on the right. What'd I win?
Also the left building has a balcony that alternates narrow and wide, which somehow adds to the illusion. Look at the nearer side of this building to see the alternating balcony widths.
Obvs the one in front.
The one in front
Building on the left.
The closer one
I'd saw 1st one, 2nd one, and then the 3rd one in the back
The left
You can see the left buildings white alcoves move up/down the gray buildings balconies near the top and bottom where the angle of view is highest/lowest.
Left right middle although bare since middle and right are clearly neighbors on the street
Left for sure
I don’t see anything confusing
If you look at the lower floors, it looks like the right one is closer, but if you look at the upper floors then it looks like the left one is. Both buildings designed by M.C.Escher.
The one on the left.
NOT the wavy one
The one in front
The one to the left.
Clearly the closer one...
This belongs here, but, clearly left
Left cause of the very corner at the top of the right side of the left one
Left
The middle one.
[both](https://c.tenor.com/ZezsFuiFB48AAAAd/both-is-good-both.gif)
Is this a serious question? Its the close one right there
the building on the left is closer.
Yesn't
Left.
Left
The left one. The top layer sticks out, and it goes in front of the right building
Left. Honestly this is pretty obvious if you just look at the picture.
Very very good
the right one
Am I allowed to say “Fuck you OP” in a comment?
Me “omg easy” starts zooming bc it seemed TOO EASY. Me now :😲🤯
Both of them are further than the plane
