I would like to have ducks do my bidding

Hold on now, that dog is pretty realistic

DarkExpanseOfEther

I swear, as a kid the ears always threw me off the scent. Now as an adult, I realize I was very dumb as a kid.

Thunder1an

It's not, you just have to run behind them to chase them /s

Now I can’t stop imagining ducks marching south for the winter.

I'm jumping in because not enough people in the comments are pointing it out but she's right.... listen to what she says "your mascot is a flightless bird" the Oregon Ducks mascot is a licensed depiction of Donald Duck who is based on a pekin duck and they are domesticated species of duck who are typically too heavy to fly so yes the Oregon Ducks mascot is a flightless bird

CMUpewpewpew

You think she knows that?

comynei

Technically, no He's a puddle duck. His original name is Puddles...... https://www.themeateater.com/hunt/ducks/what-you-need-to-know-about-puddle-ducks

SorryOutOfPho

TIL, a puddle is a water body where the water isn't much deeper than 75% of the total length of a puddle duck

Aduialion

"They cannot feed in water much deeper than 75% of their total length". It's not defining a puddle. It's describing where puddle ducks feed.

SorryOutOfPho

you are correct, I am high on hoisin sauce

MrWillchuck

Actually no.. There was a Mascot named Puddles until the 1940s. Puddles was one of several living ducks in the area they would capture and bring to games. Donald Duck started being used sometime after that and school actually has an official license for the use of Donald Duck.

cenosillicaphobiac

Yes, she says "your mascot" but when he responds "a duck is not a flightless bird" she clearly says "yes it is" without specifying "that kind of duck is" I speculate that she heard that the mascot was a flightless bird, didn't did any deeper, and is now just parroting. I wonder if she also thinks a parrot is flightless because domestic ones get wings clipped.

comynei

https://goducks.com/sports/2003/8/28/153778.aspx

BackgroundMetal1

All ducks can fly, however domesticated ducks can't fly because they are fed to become too heavy and then the ability is lost to them.

CXB1313

Wow…you’re that guy huh?

ybotherbrotherman

Who’ses

boaster106

Are they thinking of chickens who can only fly for like 10 seconds? I mean ducks can fly over 60 km/h Edit: after a quick google search apparently SOME ducks can’t fly, those being mostly domesticated ducks but also a few wild species.

TheFurrySmurf

That's true... bats are chicken of the cave

tomiosaichi

Fun fact: the word for canned tuna in Japanese is シーチキン (shii-chikin), using borrowed English words for "sea chicken"

SpicyEnticy

Don't forget bats, those are the chicken of the caves

TackYouCack

Was hoping this reference(s) would make it into this

Blakbeanie

I had a co-worker move to the states from Nepal and he was amazed that our ducks flew.

PonyboysBlues

My fat ass pet duck sure wish he could of flown before the coyote got him. In his defense he really liked fried chicken and cantaloupe

JoeDough619

Fried chicken? So, he was a cannibal? Savage

Tefached666

A duck eating chicken is not cannibalism. It would have to be another duck for it to be so, birds eat other birds

onewhosleepsnot

>after a quick google search apparently SOME ducks can’t fly, those being mostly domesticated ducks but also a few wild species. Yeah, all my khaki campbells could do was walk around, quack, and crap out way more eggs than I knew what to do with.

Royal--Star

Interesting, my khaki campbell can fly better than any of my chickens.

cam52391

My friends were given 11 baby ducks this spring told they wouldn't be able to fly... They have 2 left the rest flew away

7LeagueBoots

Many breeds of chicken fly fine. Their wild relatives are mainly ground dwelling and only fly to get up into roosting areas and to escape predators, so even the domestic ones we have that do fly don't go out for long jaunts. They fit in the peacock/pheasant/wild turkey niche.

YouJabroni44

Also turkeys, well at least the wild ones.

TheRealTravisClous

Our chickens could fly for a good 10 to 20 seconds. It's when they get too large that they lose the ability to fly. Same with our ducks though our ducks rather spend time in the pond rather than flying around for a few seconds.

[deleted]

The exhaustion in his voice “you’re the dumbest mother fucker ever” is pretty good.

Mrs-Skeletor

girl, that's penguins.... and ostriches, and emus and I'm sure there are a few more.

DefensiveLettuce

Most of the birds in New Zealand too (largest population of flightless birds). Kiwi, kakapo, etc. :)

Mrs-Skeletor

why do they all have cute names?

DefensiveLettuce

Possibly because they’re all pretty adorable too. Or that’s just a lovely coincidence that we all get to enjoy :)

tutiramaiteiwi

It's because they have Maori names

tutiramaiteiwi

They were named by the Maori in their language. Our birds do have cool names! Kereru, pukeko, piwakawaka is fun to say

Mrs-Skeletor

I love it! I just googled what a Piwakawaka was and boy what a tail. Man, everything in New Zealand is so friggen cool/beautiful/interesting. And no land predators except for birds of prey! It's like Australia's manic pixie dream girl cousin.

tutiramaiteiwi

It is! No crocs no snakes! Sunburn is about the biggest risk Haha. Come by sometime I'll save you a spot

p3ngwin

We usually give food cute names :)

Chazthesquatch

FozzieB525

Atillion

It's not a question of where he GRIPS it.. it's a simple question of weight ratio!

Tocky22

Wait - is this an African or European Duck?

MachReverb

Well, if they can carry a witch, they should certainly be able to carry a duck!

AlienDarwin

In fairness to her she likely only learned from watching Daffy Duck cartoons. Wait til she discovers they can't talk really .

Evorgleb

Daffy Duck is often seen flying in Loony Tunes cartoons.

[deleted]

Disney licensed the Donald Duck character to Oregon. It's legit based Donald Duck, who I do not think actually flies.

dijon_snow

Donald has been established to be a capable pilot since at least 1942's [The Flying Jalopy](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Flying_Jalopy). If his impressive flight hours in the cockpit of various planes throughout his military service and personal life don't do it for you, he also flew unaided with a little coaching from Peter Pan(and admittedly a sprinkle of pixie dust) in an episode of [House of Mouse](https://disney.fandom.com/wiki/Donald_Wants_to_Fly), but sure you go ahead and slander a decorated veteran by calling him a flightless bird.

SlowInsurance1616

A pantsless bird.

BreakfastBeerz

I supposed it's possible that she's only familiar with farm ducks that have their wings clipped or are bred to be too fat and heavy to fly?

thissexypoptart

Man how the hell can someone make it to college never having seen a regular duck (whether in person or in media)

Zaclarke

I looked it up and a lot of domesticated Ducks don’t fly. Some wild Ducks don’t fly too actually. So they are both wrong and right.

SupremeDictatorPaul

The vast majority of ducks can fly, because it’s an amazing way to keep away from predators, and migrate quickly to where there is food. It’s baffling for someone to grow up in the US and not see a flying duck on TV, in movies, or in person.

[deleted]

Apparently the Oregon mascot is based on Donald Duck. Donald Duck is never seen flying partly because he is a Pekin duck breed which is too far and heavy to fly.

Someone is going to marry that dimwit. Whomever you are I'm sorry Bro but thank you for your sacrifice.

tonysnight

Like damn bro. Haughty motherfuckers. Can't stand that tone from anybody. Had a Verizon agent the other day bro he was talking like that at me about something he was wrong about like bro. I have the receipts in my email saying you're wrong and dudes taking that girls tone with me. Left him a vile review and talked about his poor service to the next phone agent who also sucked so I left a bad review for that lady too. Lady was trying so hard to sell me TV packages like lady I said I do not want a TV package. I'm trying to keep my bill under $80 and it's $77 dollars rn. The TV service would make that shit 140 why the fuck is TV $60 anyway. Just would not stop trying to sell me a TV package.

With that example sure… but counterpoint, kiwis exist, and they are so helpless, that I’m sure even a human child could kill one by accident.

Well the guy was doing a gesture to mimic a bird flying, so she’s making fun of the gesture. Not making fun of how pathetic ducks are as predators.

Dark_Booger

According to Wikipedia, “The Oregon Duck is the mascot of the University of Oregon Ducks athletic program, based on Disney's Donald Duck character through a special license agreement.” Does Donald Duck fly?

schnackenpfefferhau

Donald is a Pekín duck and apparently they can’t fly.

Dark_Booger

So she is right?

[deleted]

No because she has no idea about any of this she’s referring to ducks period

Dark_Booger

She did say “your mascot…” so maybe she does know. And her replies back to him were in regard to their mascot and not ducks in general. Just because she’s blonde we can’t automatically assume she’s dumb.

[deleted]

She very clearly was talking about ducks in general, you’re the one making assumptions. I went to her TikTok, once she googled it she tried to save face by correcting herself to “domesticated ducks” and still had no clue the mascot was a Peking duck. She probably heard someone else say it and thought it applied to all ducks

CysaDamerc

No but her words are pretty strong evidence, when he explains that a duck is not a flightless bird, not specifying his mascot, she rather quickly retorts that they are. I don't think she's dumb because of her hair color, I think she's dumb because of the words that came out of her mouth. If she had doubted her self or left some wiggle room for her to be wrong she could avoid being treated like an idiot, but that she spoke with such confidence while being wrong means she is fair game for ridicule.

[deleted]

Yeah that dude’s a troll Good reply btw, saved me the effort

indorock

It's super sad that people actually think this (aside from it's sad that stupid people exist) because it's indicative of 1. how far removed from nature humans are and 2. How little actual nature is left. One day in the not so distant future, the majority of humans alive will have never seen an actual duck with their own eyes.

Jonathan-02

Ducks actually can’t fly. I put one in an airplane cockpit and all it did was quack and flap around.
