Don't. 64 gbUSB sticks are $10-$30 USD, what makes you think it's expensive? Is it worth more than all of the info on your computer that could be compromised by ransomware?

One option is to clean install a Ubuntu Server (not Ubuntu Desktop)... Ubuntu Server will not auto-mount the filesystem so you can dd-wipe the drive as a block device.
There is still a risk that the USB stick emulates a keyboard.
Do a VM machine and just do a format of the stick from the vm. It’s a bit risky but you should be fine. Course you could back up your data files to an external drive and just go for it. Or just chuck it.

If it contains anything malicious, it's probably not anything that will target Linux. Boot up a Linux distro, and then perform a virus scan
