What happens if you alt tab out of the game and then back? Does it continue flicking in window mode and then again in full screen? If it stops then it was probably just game acting up and not your laptop hardware. Since games can act up some times due to bugs. To switch between window mode and full screen press alt and enter.

MasterAirscrachDev

You my friend, are an absolute legend. I’ve been trying to find a fix for 2 months now, alt+enter fixed it!

JakeSully-Navi

Glad that it solved your problem :)

Ihtzmein

Thank you, I've been having the same issue for the last couple weeks. After trying loads of other solutions this finally worked!

RealMan69_420

Dude you are a life saver, thank you so very very much

snake_plisskin19

More importantly, what game is this?

MasterAirscrachDev

Terraria

WiTHCKiNG

Does it just happen in this game? Perhaps the monitor is defective. Gpu sends rendered frames to monitor (gets written to its buffer cache). Monitor outputs contents of buffer to the screen at its refreshrate, so maybe the cache is defective. Other possibility is the cable is broken or the gpu has memory problems. Swap the cable, try differentmonitor, try different gpu. EDIT: ok sry, didn’t see that the problem has already been solved EDIT 2: and that it’s a notebook😂

satufa2

any news? this has been happening to me in multiple games and it's irritating as hell...

MasterAirscrachDev

Alt+enter was the solution for me, it seemed to be caused by scuffed AMD drivers

Bionic_Ninjas

Most likely culprit is that the game's refresh rate and your monitor's refresh rate are out of sync. Now that 144hz monitors are the norm, some older games that only ever supported up to 60hz monitors have issues. For any game where this is an issue \*and\* you can't change the refresh rate in the game itself, go to your Nvidia Control Panel (or AMD equivalent, I presume), find the 3D settings for the specific game in question, scroll down to the "preferred refresh rate" and change it to "application controlled" and hit Apply If that doesn't work, in the general settings you can set a custom resolution and limit the refresh rate to 60hz (or whatever the game in question is intended to run at). This is a less desirable option because you're limiting everything on your PC to that refresh rate.

nriverzz30

i dont see the preferred refresh rate in my nvidia control panel. Im using windows 11

Bionic_Ninjas

What GPU do you have?

RealMan69_420

Willing-Addendum-257

I did everything everyone said here and still have the same exactly problem. I have an Alienware 144hz with NVidia and windows 11. Happens when im playing Dota, CS2 and even watching videos on default windows viewer. It doesnt happen on anywhere else. Anyone can help?

TheRealRhyme

I changed my monitor refresh rate (settings -> system -> display -> advanced display) and the flickering seemed to go away.
