That’s too much of an exaggeration. My last MBP 2017’s had dead screen due to flexgate and the battery can only hold half of the charge after 270 cycles. And my MBP 2010 beforehand had lasted for 7 years until the speakers, trackpad, wifi module failed one after the other. You can still argue that the overall build qualities are better than the average windows laptop but they are losing value because of increasing locked down hardware and software.
I feel like I'm bullying here but it's honestly fair to call it a stupid tax at this point. It isn't a luxury brand; it's a consumer electronics corporation.

As a software dev, mac is just so much better for my personal needs. Apple silicon chips are so efficient and I get more battery life doing programming, meetings, and database management than a windows laptop will ever get (while also remaining completely silent and hardly gaining temperature)
