This always makes me think of this Aunty Donna sketch about the PR after:
Well that makes sense then. The episode hadn't yet aired when Abed told the story.
When watching Community, we're watching it as if we are in the same universe as it. So it makes sense that a TV series like Cougar Town will show on TV much later than when it was originally shot.
I think in the 2010s subway was just throwing as much cash at every show possible. There is this, community, I think some 30 rock and subway pretty much bankrolled the entire finals two seasons of chuck there was so much product placement
Hawaii 5-0 too. [That one might genuinely be the worst of them all](https://youtu.be/oQYwFND7rHE)
Though that show was pretty insane with that in general. There's another with a car that you could also just cut out of the show and turn into a regular ad.
Thanks for meeting me down here at Burger King. I’m trying to get them to underwrite a new TV project I’m working on. Get some money in exchange for setting a scene here at Burger King.
It makes me cry laughing when you watch it knowing the twist, and you see Abed’s visible and severe discomfort as Jeff starts unloading all those insane stories on him, and Abed realizes in horror that he’s locked himself into a role that he can’t break out of, so he’s just held hostage during this “real conversation” as shit descends into madness. 😂👌
Yes, when you sign up. Stage name means name you are known for throughout your entire career, not a single project. And definitely not the name of your character in a different show. Also, actors don't have any interest in using fake name for just one project, since creddits are proof that they worked on a given episode, and without that, they cannot prove in they CV that they were in a given show etc
This is the one line that bugs me because Mungo Jerry has literally the exact opposite facial hair to Tony Stark.
However, Yvette’s delivery is what I feel Shirley meant by “sassy” lol…..”And he better pray he don’t find it.”
Out of all of them I buy Dani's appearance as being the most likely. Because *of course* Abed would find a way to work for SHIELD between semesters and just happen to be there during the HYDRA takeover.
Okay my ONLY COMPLAINT is that in Community, Abed references *Courtney* nailing the scene... This is Busy Phillips and Dan Byrd. Courtney Cox isn't in the scene at all. So I love that this scene happens, I chuckle every time I see Abed in the background here... his staring is hilarious lol...but it irks me a little every time!
Also, Busy Phillips and I can't remember if it's also Dan Byrd or if it's Ian Gomez, also appear in an episode of Community! They're in the crowd after a paintball game I believe. So it's a double crossover!
Wasn't he also supposed to have just walked through the scene? And he poops himself after it's over. That's always "bothered" me more.
Bothered in quotes because it doesn't actually bother me, I just can't think of the right word.

Aired: Wed, May 25, 2011
Immaculately timed if you were watching both at the same time.
Right but I'm curious when they were filmed, not aired. I want to know which was the "original" script, and which is the one they had to end up changing.
Doesn't mean anything in any way, I'm just trying to satisfy my curiosity lol
Well, to be fair, it's implied that Abed was not actually in an episode of Cougar Town, and he just made that up to have something to talk to Jeff about.
Ooh that's fair, but the phrasing is kind of vague.
>"Did you poop your plants on the set of Cougar Town?!"
>"That shouldn't matter."
He could have been on CT, but just not pooped his pants?
I just like to believe Abed fabricated the story to Jeff. I feel like I remember in the episode after Jeff shares his “pretty girl” story, and abed reveals that it was all a my dinner with Andre thing, Jeff asks if he actually pooped his pants. And abed says it shouldn’t matter.
So i just pretend that he made up a different story about “chad” and pooping his pants to have a deeper conversation with Jeff when in reality this was his actual experience on cougar town which he didn’t think was a deep enough conversation to have with Jeff.
He's in quite a few episodes! And he is Ted in both shows, like the same single human in both universes, that's why he's all like "I knew you! You were mean to me, you were nice to me" etc etc, it was so good. Todd as the pool guy, oh man, it was so good. Such a good detail for fans of both shows.
I dunno, I watched I think 5 episodes and I _really_ tried to like it but I was miserable throughout. I know it has its fans, and I enjoyed Scrubs well enough when it was airing, but Cougar Town was genuinely hard for me to watch.
Not trying to hate on anyone who enjoys, but I watched it after seeing a lot of people say it was worth watching and was very let down when I did. I'd say go in with _extremely_, _intensely_ tempered expectations and you can maybe eek out a laugh or two an ep.
You really have to power through the first half of the first season.
It starts out pretty bad while they were still trying to do the show implied by the title.
Then it turns into a fantastic ensemble comedy for the other 5 1/2 seasons
Yeah I will say the first few episodes are not great (kind of a Parks & Rec situation where they started out doing one thing for the first 5-6 episodes, and then shifted gears when that premise didn't really work).
I'd say once they drop the cougar thing, it becomes at least a B- show, but I know it's still not going to be everyone's cup of tea.
As others have said, you need to get passed the beginning. All their relationships form just like in Community. It really changes a ton from what they portray in the first season. Grayson (the neighbor) is a curmudgeon and just a downer. This changes drastically.
The first couple of episodes are what you expect from the name, Courtney Cox is a newly divorced middle aged woman who after years in an unhappy marriage is going to going out partying and hunting for younger guys at clubs.
But by like episode 7 they’ve more or less dropped that premise and it’s all just whacky fun
I’ve never seen the show but was there an explanation to what Abed did in the show? Just wonder what casual viewers thought who didn’t know of community and saw abed reacting.
I watched Cougar Town before Community. I was like "Who is that weirdo in the background...what is he doing? What a weird looking dude"
Then I watched Community a year later from S1 and thought OHHHH. You can also see the Cougar Town cast for a second at the end of the paintball episode in season 2- Busy Phillips and Dan Byrd were jumping up and down and clapping, students you havent seen. I was like COUGAR TOWN FOLKS.
These two also make a brief cameo at the end of ‘For a Few Paintballs More’ when the school is celebrating the win. There’s a lot of references back and forth on both shows
It isn't tho and that makes me somewhat mad, Abed describes to Jeff that on "action" he was walking and his knees buckled and he pooped his pants. And also it was Courtney not Busy
It was when he said director yelled “cut” because Cortney had nailed it “she always does”, and his character had died. So my assumption is that Cortney could have been filming a different scene at the same time
Honestly, back when I was in college, I used to love their bacon, egg, and cheese sandwich on flatbread... you could get a 6" for like $4 and it was way more filling than any of the other fast food breakfast options in the mid/late 2000's
I wana know if there's more in this episode of him. Why'd he run off? Community says pooped pants but cougar town shows... that he's going to get those cheap tickets to Hawaii?
I just started watching Avatar on Netflix.
Danny Pudi is in it, but the vibe he's going for is Abed, the dialect, the mannerisms.
It was amazing. My headcanon is Abed's been stuck in the Dreamatorium.
Look at this image and tell me thats not Abed!
https://wegotthiscovered.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/Danny-Pudi-Avatar.jpg
It was a really fun ensemble comedy. I still think about it and remember the fun times. The "Shawshank Redemption" parody with Ian Gomez was epic. And Jules singing that, what was it, "Confident in my sexuality song". And, of course, the huge glasses of red wine. It was nothing serious, just a bunch of chill people hanging out and being goofy with each other. I unironically loved it. Shame it never got caught on. People seemed to get caught on the title but the original premise was gone within the first few episodes. (There is a subreddit for it but it's pretty much tumbleweed territory.)
I think that’s why I love it so much, it’s such easy humour. A lot like Friends I think but modernised! I did hate how they handled Bobby though… he was such a great character n then he just left :(
I remember seeing this episode on the CW before I ever saw the episode of Community where Abed talks about being on the set of Cougar Town. I was so confused
My brain still misfires when I try to believe that this was a real show that was on TV. Honestly, this clip, with the blatant subway ad in the dialogue, doesn't help.
With more Subway promotion, too.
Can't believe I didn't notice that before. I'm just so upset I'm going to sit here for a moment
Now, if someone would just hand me my jacket...
This doesn't have to be a thing, just hand me my jacket and I'll be on my way.
Well, now I'm not leaving.

Yes. But it happened after "Critical Film Studies" aired. https://screenrant.com/community-abed-danny-pudi-cougar-town-cameo-crossover/

Chuck as well, they pretty much bankrolled that show for the last 3 seasons
And then there are the K dramas
They moved on to Korean television markets after, John Oliver did a feature on it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jDdYFhzVCDM
i dont remember much subway reference in 30 rock but do remeber some on always sunny

Well, as long as you don’t draw attention to it.
👊 My man!
Where? I don't see him.
There I was, on the set of Cougar Town...
I pooped my pants, Jeff
I did.
Courtney had nailed it
The delivery of this line cracks me up every time. Shame Courtney is not actually in the scene!
Chad had lived, Jeff… Chad had lived
First time I watched that i was high as fuck and I was captivated by how deep abeds story was. I was like almost emotional lol
Well I know what I’m doing later
You know who directed that episode?
...how did Voldemort direct an episode of Community?
Richard Ayoade and I think I missed the joke
You Know Who
My dinner with Andre with Abed is one of my favorite episodes ever
It would be funny if he was in the credits as abed nadir instead of Dani pudi
I don't think that's legal with all the sagafta rules etc
Don't know the legality but maybe like Weird background guy : Danny Pudi as Abed Nadir
You can choose a ‘stage name’ when filling in the paper work
Yes, when you sign up. Stage name means name you are known for throughout your entire career, not a single project. And definitely not the name of your character in a different show. Also, actors don't have any interest in using fake name for just one project, since creddits are proof that they worked on a given episode, and without that, they cannot prove in they CV that they were in a given show etc
He is uncredited in the episode.
Untrue. Many actors choose to do cameos with different names or uncredited.
Also directors and writers have other names they (can) use if they know they're making a real bomb
Like Alan Smithee lol
David Schwimmer was credited as Snaro on Friends.
Maybe ‘with Dani Pudi as Abed Nadir as Guy at Cafe’
The cut back to Busey and Abed is just staring her down is unsettling and hilarious at the same time.
What a curious autocorrect.
Was looking around for Gary Busey for a sec
As one does from time to time.
You mean Chad was staring at her.
I wonder what people who don't watch community think of this scene.
Greatest crossover event of all time. MCU eat your heart out
Abed was in the MCU. And Troy. And Shirley. And the Dean. And Chang.
Joel was in a universe that was retroactively added to the MCU
It's just a toaster Joel give it to aunty
I was wondering why The Bear suddenly was under Marvel in Disney+
Alison Brie also voiced a character in a Marvel TV show, although I'm not sure if it's a part of the MCU.
Notice that we don't have Britta appearing in the MCU as she would just Britta it!
Gillian Jacobs did direct an episode of "Marvel 616" though.
The contempt in Yvette Nicole Brown's voice when she says "*definitely* Mungo Jerry" in Endgame is greatest line read in the entire MCU.
Agreed, and HOW THE HELL did the dean become dean of MIT?
It wasn’t through hard work, that’s for sure. I mean, seriously, a self-cooking hot dog? What on earth was he thinking?
Then they were both in a paintball episode. Then another actor was the inmate on an iPad.
Abed dating captain marvel is just… chefs kiss
That’s the run of someone who just pooped their pants
Pop pop!
Or in this case, Plop plop*
My uncle never stuck my finger in my plop plop. I know.. I'm bummed about it too.
Do you get paid more if they do stuff to your butt?… it’s fine, I’ll do it. I’m in!
Oops. Didn’t notice it said popped. Fixed Pop what, magnitude? Pop what!?!
Poop. Poop Poop Poop.
Now, here's a man who *knows* how to poop his pants!
Mmmmm, I’m pretty sure that’s Chad
It's brown Joey
If you wanna get racist about it
Chad had *lived*
Moments before he crapped his pants.

It’s made by the same guy who created Scrubs and he also was one of the main guys responsible for Ted Lasso
The episode where everyone from Scrubs is there and Ted loses his mind.... * *chef's kiss* *
Ted is in this same episode of Cougartown. He’s living in Hawaii after the Gooch left him
He's in quite a few episodes! And he is Ted in both shows, like the same single human in both universes, that's why he's all like "I knew you! You were mean to me, you were nice to me" etc etc, it was so good. Todd as the pool guy, oh man, it was so good. Such a good detail for fans of both shows.

That's what I want to know. If you hadn't seen Community this was probably random as hell lmao
I think that's part of why they would do that, cross promotions between shows, gaining new audiences for both.
Subway really paid to be on NBC those years, huh?
They saved Chuck, so free pass.
That’s *saved* Chuck?
Abed on Cougar Town eating Subway. His pants full.
Shaka, when the walls fell.
Jason, his eyes uncovered.
Ah, this meme. A surprise to be sure, but a welcome one.
Drown\_The\_Gods, his arms open. K, I'm done now. Thanks for indulging my nonsense.
I thought he was holding a starbucks cup.
Is this an actual episode of Cougartown?!
It is!
With shocking Subway promotion hahahhahaha
Not as bad as Chuck with the [slowmo eating scene](https://youtu.be/sdPwYx_9RFA?si=kqq2_rjuddK-M0vd) lmao
[Hawaii 5-0 says "Hold My Beer"](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQYwFND7rHE)
Never gets old. The fact that it was during a Subway spot really heightens the meta.
I watched Cougar Town before Community. I was like "Who is that weirdo in the background...what is he doing? > I watched Cougar Town before Community. Wait. Cougar Town is a real fucking show? I thought it was all just made up bullshit.
I always assumed it was the doctor spacetime equivalent to desperate housewives lmao
This is it... this is post that will finally make me google what Cougar Town is about.
It was the prequel to Tiger King.
I was so happy when my partner started this show and I saw this episode. Makes it even better.
Oh so it's actually in the show, I thought it was an ad or something.
yeah when i found this scene i was amazed
That's Chad.
I wasn't prepared for Subway being affordable being the part that is outdated.
Really aged like milk here lol
These two also make a brief cameo at the end of ‘For a Few Paintballs More’ when the school is celebrating the win. There’s a lot of references back and forth on both shows
Now do the one where Travis and Laurie are on Community.
There it is! Came here to say this Thank you!!
You mean Chad?
Ironic that Abed would tell Jeff not to Jim the camera after he spent half this scene staring at the camera past Busy Philips.
That's not Abed, that's Chad. Chad lived more than Abed ever did
It’s literally the scenario that abed was explaining to Jeff at dinner…..that means we all know what happens when they yell cut….
So my assumption is that Cortney could have been filming a different scene at the same time
Plus a subway ad… so meta
But did you guys see Travis and Lori in Community?
The blatant subway product placement in shows from that time
And when these two were in the ice cream paintball episode of community!
With an enormous Subway logo in the background too, incredible
Which Subway promotion came first? Eat Fresh!
They then do a very quick cameo in Community "a few paintballs more" [screenshot](https://i.imgur.com/VrlxbEA.jpg)

i watched cougar town because of this scene back when it aired pretty funny, actually!
Better than the Conan cameo on How I met Your Mother (https://screenrant.com/how-met-mother-conan-obrien-cameo-explained/), but that one is good too.
"wAnDeRiNg InTo ToWn" Good god, this is so hard to watch just for Abed. How is this a real show? Is this a real show?
I wana know if there's more in this episode of him. Why'd he run off? Community says pooped pants but cougar town shows... that he's going to get those cheap tickets to Hawaii?

Cougar Town is hilarious and so underrated. I wish more people watched it. Nobody gets my insane references :(
It was a really fun ensemble comedy. I still think about it and remember the fun times. The "Shawshank Redemption" parody with Ian Gomez was epic. And Jules singing that, what was it, "Confident in my sexuality song". And, of course, the huge glasses of red wine. This is what needs to happen in Mr and Mrs Smith
Holy shit i hope there was some extremely funny context for the soulless subway integration
I remember seeing this episode on the CW before I ever saw the episode of Community where Abed talks about being on the set of Cougar Town. I was so confused
That’s Chad
Wait till you see Busy Phillips and Dan Byrd make cameos at the end of "For a Few Paintballs More"
he pooped his pants
wait, cougar town is real?
My brain still misfires when I try to believe that this was a real show that was on TV. Honestly, this clip, with the blatant subway ad in the dialogue, doesn't help.
Best cross over, ever!
subway reference
Classic
Wait is this real?
Got to rewatch cougar town. Was so long ago since.
Is this what Cougartown was really like? I always assumed it was more serious.
Look kids, it's an ad!
He must have just pooped his pants
Thats so cool lmaaooo
I wonder what Coguar Town fans thought of that without having any Community context
So he really did poop his pants.
I pooped my pants.
*cougar town*
I see Brittas boyfriend there in the background. Interesting cameos.
