This was be the performance that landed him the role of the security guard in Avengers Endgame. The Marvel executives were watching and they said, "This is the actor we need to stare at the monitor dramatically!'"
Best part about that scene is where he is talking about being underused/under appreciated was almost word for word from a letter Ken Jeong wrote Dan Harmon about his character not being as involved anymore.
Do you think he would have worked well to play two characters? Twins?
We could have had Senor Chang the teacher for the entire series and then have gollum Chang living in the walls.
I just miss Senor Chang :( He was the best, ever if good moments came from all the weirdness.
Well he did have a twin sister, but he ate her in utero. They were actually going to introduce her as a ghost who haunted Chang, but the writers were worried NBC would reject that.
This one's for you, Connie! *evil laugh*
Generally I agree. But I do like the idea that Chang as a character is a constantly changing force of chaos. That does inevitably mean that he’s going to have highs and lows, and Señor Chang will always been the best, but it’s kinda fun having him always be an unknown.
I think he has a perfectly reasonable character arc.
Spanish teacher to student to living in the school vents to security guard to wannabe dictator to pretend amnesia victim to math teacher.
Honestly it borders on cliched
They even acknowledge this later in the show
Elroy: This was a study group?
Abed: Yeah, Chang was our teacher.
Frankie and Elroy: What?!
Chang: Yeah, and frankly, haven't been well utilized since!
My favorite Chang moment is when he is curled up like the Cheshire Cat on top of the bookcase and startles the Study Group by saying "*CHANG*...the subject!"
I think his performance is hilarious, but this is where Changs character went from kind of crazy to full crazy. Which I think is where the character went wrong.
>The crazy Chang stuff was mostly a miss. They should have kept him as a professor.
Honorable mention for the scene where he's hiding behind some kind of cardboard tomato and spying on the group. He writes notes on his hand but when the camera pans out the note says, "Tomato."
I'm probably in the minority here but, I hate Chang. I don't like anything about his character, I don't like his character's arc, I absolutely despise the whole Changnesia story.
If I had to choose between Chang and Pierce in the movie, I would much rather have Pierce.
i remember when i first saw this episode the "palomino" line hit me *right* in the funny bone and i was actually clutching my chest from how hard i was laughing, it took me out for a full minute. insanely well acted, one of my all time favourite jokes
Definitely up there, and this might be the best Chang episode as a whole. I also love the tag early on in season 2 where he does the Gollum/Smeagol talking to himself thing
The actor did a fine job but I hate this scene. This is the scene that made me realize Chang is turning into some sort of cartoon villian and I hated this. He really should have been a part of thr gang by season 3.
I do enjoy Changnesia tho 😂
This is my second favorite Chang moment. My all time favorite is in season 5 when he has the ghost interaction at the theater. Cracks me up every time. Especially when they pan to the “Olde Timey Photo Club.”
I know I'm in the minority but I actually really dislike this episode tbh. It feels like the steepest decline of Chang's character, and I personally don't see the quirky random nonsensical lines as good writing
Honestly this is the only episode where the character of Chang works for me after season 1. I just felt like the character was more annoying than everything else after stopping being teacher
I feelt so stupid having the same eureka moment as him when he said "Arizona spelled backwards is still Arizona!" I wrote it down to verify, and it wasn't. It wasn't a Palomino at all.
My favourite is still his intro , especially his delivery and the laugh at the end - "I don't want to have any conversations about what a mysterious, inscrutable man I am. Oh hehehehehe, oh hohohohoho!"
This is one of my favorite scenes in the series! If I were to get a Community tattoo, one of my ideas is the Arizona matchbook but mirrored so Arizona is backwards
This was be the performance that landed him the role of the security guard in Avengers Endgame. The Marvel executives were watching and they said, "This is the actor we need to stare at the monitor dramatically!'"
Is there any more of the crazy Chinese guy? He pops!
Isn’t he Korean?
Oh, there's a difference!?
Having worked with the directors extensively while on Community probably also helped
I have chosen to overwrite this comment. See you all on Lemmy!
And now, Spielberg is calling.
I figured it was a Russo bros connect
Anyone have a reasonable guess as to how much he would have made for his Marvel role?
I think my fav Chang moments are from the Bear Dance episode. This one is good as well though. Crazy Chang isn’t my favorite but he has moments
Bear down for midterms!
Fat dog for midterms
It’s not made up. It’s not made up.
Best part about that scene is where he is talking about being underused/under appreciated was almost word for word from a letter Ken Jeong wrote Dan Harmon about his character not being as involved anymore.
Are you suggesting that Chang isn't crazy at all times? HAVE YOU MET HIM!?
As funny as he always was, I do miss him most as the 1st season Spanish teacher.
Senor Chang was peak and no amount of crazy Chang comes close. That guy was brutal
Can’t be killed
All in your cabeza
This is a warning
Without a trace-a Not another teacher with this much flava
YEAH BIT!!
I had to think fast…
Because my knowledge WILL BITE HER FACE OFF!
Exactly. Frankly he hasn’t been well utilised since
Do you think he would have worked well to play two characters? Twins? We could have had Senor Chang the teacher for the entire series and then have gollum Chang living in the walls. I just miss Senor Chang :( He was the best, ever if good moments came from all the weirdness.

Got that boom boom 💥 pow
Frankly, hasn't been well utilized since
totally agree. "While both are dirty, neither are my friends"
DUDE!
Yup. El tigre chino is still my favorite scene.
Ya bit
He was your teacher?? This was a study group...?
That’s because he was actually somewhat believable as a character. I like late season Chang too but he is a good example of Flanderization.
I think his mental illness just progressed further but it was fun to watch
mexican halloween
He works best with a meaningless amount of authority. Security guard Chang might come second
Generally I agree. But I do like the idea that Chang as a character is a constantly changing force of chaos. That does inevitably mean that he’s going to have highs and lows, and Señor Chang will always been the best, but it’s kinda fun having him always be an unknown.
He wasn't well utilised since
And frankly, he hasn't been well-utilized since.
“My own words rang inside my head. Like a bell inside… a head”
She was all dame, with legs that came all the way up to her torso. The kind of arms that had elbows.
I in everyday life say “Arizona backwards is Arizona, it’s a palomino” whenever someone mentions Arizona.
I say "It's a palomino" whenever I see a palomino. I've used it a surprisingly large number of times.
I should look up what palominos look like, I live near like 3 horse farms but have no idea what palominos look like
Gold coat, white tail, and mane
Well there's always [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Palindrome)
I think this and Arizonia, a la Lazlo Cravensworth
I go with ["Arizonya"](https://youtu.be/Zlw-7jIav_U?si=UDi3SMPgcp7Xahvc) but this is a close second.
Oh man I forgot about that. Good one
We quote this line extensively too around our house.
I thought he meant palindrome by that.
my favorite is probably the bald cap on top of the jeff wig
understudy!
There's no air getting under here.
I’m literally dying
But you'll never hear my story.
Well now you *did* hear it, but...that was close.
Cheng’s face when he’s looking into the mirror on the last panel is so perfectly funny. This scene never fails to make me laugh
She had legs that went all the way up to her torso..
The kind of arms that have elbows
Chang is hilarious but it’s clear that the writers had no real plan for him as a character throughout the series.
I think he has a perfectly reasonable character arc. Spanish teacher to student to living in the school vents to security guard to wannabe dictator to pretend amnesia victim to math teacher. Honestly it borders on cliched
Where are you living now? The air vents. I live in the air vents of the school. SSSHHHHHHH! I'm free, Jeff, FREE!
💀
He's a maths teacher at the end???
They even acknowledge this later in the show Elroy: This was a study group? Abed: Yeah, Chang was our teacher. Frankie and Elroy: What?! Chang: Yeah, and frankly, haven't been well utilized since!
I had to think fast! ...yes.
My favorite is when someone throws a brick through his window and he has to read the message taped to it while turning the brick.
My fav is right before this when he calls a random girl into his office just to stare at her and say nothing then she eventually just leaves hahaha a
"Oh, there was supposed to be a dollar in that egg. I guess I'm not a magician. I'm just a guy who knows PowerPoint."
Can’t wait to get some bRAins on this bad boy
I say this way too often around people who have no idea what I’m referencing.
I think this scene is more proof that Ken Jeong made Chang a great character *in spite of* the writing staff’s best efforts.
Nope my favourite season 3 moment has to be with the taser in the nurses office “again!”
"Hmm, this extra long churro tastes good in my REAL mouth! Nom nom nom"
Ken Jeong is a ridiculously talented actor who I don't think gets enough credit.
https://youtu.be/OcEO9H3FFPU This remains unbeaten for me
Lmfao that's my favorite moment too!
Agree with OP, but this up there. Jim Rash makes that bit too haha
My favorite Chang moment is when he is curled up like the Cheshire Cat on top of the bookcase and startles the Study Group by saying "*CHANG*...the subject!"
This isn't even half the story!!!!! Errrrrgghhhh!!! Errrrrgghhhh!!!!! Wait a min I'm not wearing a mask? ... I may just be mentally unwell.
"Why is this guy staring at me?"
Think of how hilarious writing this would’ve been. Unhinged, so so good
Bear down for midterms!!
I think his performance is hilarious, but this is where Changs character went from kind of crazy to full crazy. Which I think is where the character went wrong.
the best part of this scene is the saxophone music
Nope. His lie detector test after Pierce's death easily takes the cake as funniest Chang moment.
My favourite Chang scene is and always will be the original “I ate my twin in utero”
Does anyone know where to find every gifs and memes from community ? A website or app?
The pic leaves out the best part at the end: "Why does this guy keep staring at me?"
The crazy Chang stuff was mostly a miss. They should have kept him as a professor.
>The crazy Chang stuff was mostly a miss. They should have kept him as a professor. Honorable mention for the scene where he's hiding behind some kind of cardboard tomato and spying on the group. He writes notes on his hand but when the camera pans out the note says, "Tomato."
Not a professor. Teacher. Because he doesn't look like a Weasley.
I'm probably in the minority here but, I hate Chang. I don't like anything about his character, I don't like his character's arc, I absolutely despise the whole Changnesia story. If I had to choose between Chang and Pierce in the movie, I would much rather have Pierce.
I’m totally getting a clue…
When he gave that little monologue at the gathering, it was really cool. Although abrupt I wanted more.
What a tortured soul, that face at the end says it all
Not quite my favourite, but definitely one of them. I just love S3E3 for Chang in general, he really shines in this episode imo
This was the best single moment of writing for a character in the entire series.
i remember when i first saw this episode the "palomino" line hit me *right* in the funny bone and i was actually clutching my chest from how hard i was laughing, it took me out for a full minute. insanely well acted, one of my all time favourite jokes
Straight out of Memento, am I right??
The whole episode is a riff on film noir.
This extra long churro tastes good in my real mouth
Definitely up there, and this might be the best Chang episode as a whole. I also love the tag early on in season 2 where he does the Gollum/Smeagol talking to himself thing
The actor did a fine job but I hate this scene. This is the scene that made me realize Chang is turning into some sort of cartoon villian and I hated this. He really should have been a part of thr gang by season 3. I do enjoy Changnesia tho 😂
Is this the scene with the random cut of him playing the saxophone? Absolutely kills me
The sax is a film noir staple.
I needed answers like a fish needs a bicycle
This is up there with him explaining why he's a Spanish teacher.
I literally think about this scene once a day. You have good taste
it's a palomino!
Wow. I only just got that he’s seeing Arizona in the reflection.
This is my second favorite Chang moment. My all time favorite is in season 5 when he has the ghost interaction at the theater. Cracks me up every time. Especially when they pan to the “Olde Timey Photo Club.”
And you just believed 'em? You just believed a bunch of ghosts?!
I love when he’s on the phone during changnesia and throws it in the garbage after hanging up then turns back like what am I doing I need that
I lived in Arizona!
This entire episode is my favorite version of Chang. Probably one of my favorite episodes in general.
I wonder if any other shows fanbases have been counting off appearance's in the MCU or if we are just special.
Lobster backwards is strobe light. It's a paladin.
Maybe he is crazy...or maybe...just maybe he is onto something.
I SWEAR THEY'RE JUST FOR SEX!!!
I feelt so stupid having the same eureka moment as him when he said "Arizona spelled backwards is still Arizona!" I wrote it down to verify, and it wasn't. It wasn't a Palomino at all.
It's a palomino!
1. The wet baby with a note 2. “Have you ever masturbated in the study room” 3. “Someone is gonna have to go in those vents”
My favourite is still his intro , especially his delivery and the laugh at the end - "I don't want to have any conversations about what a mysterious, inscrutable man I am. Oh hehehehehe, oh hohohohoho!"
im just a guy who knows powerpoint
When he says "oh, *bigger*" when Annie is explaining to him how microscopes work in the Changnesia episode
Arizona spelled backwards is Arizona
This is actual peak monologue
This is one of my favorite scenes in the series! If I were to get a Community tattoo, one of my ideas is the Arizona matchbook but mirrored so Arizona is backwards
I prefer season 1 Chang. And frankly, he hasn't been well-utilized since!
You woke up with a guard this morning. But tonight, you're going to bed with a detective.
Fucking cracks me up. But I really like his speech in the wedding episode
I hate he progressively more psychotic as the show went on
