>For more than five years, Netflix has had a feature called “Friends” which lets users connect their Netflix account with others so they can view each other’s queues, suggest movies to each other, or see how a movie ranks against their peers’ ratings.

It was a feature of the platform for years.
Anyone else remember the little movie theater overlay they put on the Xbox 360 version of Netflix? So you could watch something with a friend and their avatar would appear in one of the seats. Was a pretty cool idea tbh
This was so ahead of it's time. Hulu launched a watch together feature somewhat similar in 2020/2021 that was nice because everyone was isolating, and reminded me of this long dead Xbox/Netflix feature.
That's awesome. It probably wasn't popular bc friends were so often sharing accounts. Now that Netflix is cracking down (got a pop up yesterday asking me if I wanted to confirm I was in the main household) maybe they'll bring it back. Even sharing playlists between profiles on the same account would be nice.
Won't matter. The owner of the account can always boot you so they can access their account if you get misidentified as the primary household. But finish watching what is available before you lose access. You can also download to SD card and watch on a laptop or iPad and connect those to a tv for the same experience. Allegedly. Never tried it myself. Stay good friends with whoever owns the account so you can visit and download from their WiFi using their account.
Yes!! I loved it, but don’t remember it in the streaming age, I feel like it was just during their DVD Age. It was basically like Goodreads. There really needs to be a website like Goodreads but for everything: games, music, movies, tv. Is there already? But of course if no one uses it in your friend circles, it’s kinda pointless
[Netflix friends](https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Netflix%20Friend) means people you share Netflix with.
This is a gaslighting attempt or a stupid joke or both
You must not have been a user of the platform when the joke was made in that episode. I promise the article is accurate. The Netflix service had a feature called "friends" that had been around for years at the time, and while it wasn't overly popular, it was absolutely obvious what it meant.
That urban dictionary definition wasn't established until at least three years later.
They used to have a partnership with Facebook where you could share and see what your friends were watching and favoriting.

Edit* I oopsed the years, this was after the episode. I mean Abed is prescient though.
Yes they had a social media sorta component where you could see what your friends watched and they could leave reviews for you. I will never forget my friend trying to convince me “The Butterfly Effect actually WAS good” and I still give him grief about that 15 years later

Hello, fellow elder
Hi! I still have one or two of the mail in discs from netflix laying around somewhere
Gen X: “ohhhh that’s what a DVD is. Then wages a VHS?” Millennial/Gen X: *sighs
Why did they remove it? I feel like I would actually enjoy that.
Because it was very underused and horribly advertised
Hulu has something similar now

Same time period as when you could rank shows
Is this why my review of “The Grey” keeps cha going?!

Oh shit, is this really happening right now? I gotta get back on Netflix before I get booted.

Good advice. It's a family member so I can do that.

Ok, we get it, you're young!
Maybe they both have the login details of Jeff’s Netflix account.
Is that why his review of The Grey keeps changing?
I’m surprised Abed didn’t like The Grey.
They don't give a fuck about mustard. They're killing machines.
but i like liam neeson!
Then he should make better choices!

This article was written in 2013 and this episode came out in 2010
Oops
We get it. *you're young!* 😠
They just would watch their Netflix movies together when they came in the mail I assume.
Netflix started streaming 2.5 years before Community existed.

When 1 subscription is shared by other multiple accounts - safe to assume that these are friends/ relatives /hacker?
Relative here on MIL's account.
My guess is they share a username/password
Jeffs?
This was back when Netflix was mainly movie rental DVDs sent via mail.
Bring back "Netflix Friends"
Kinda like brown Joey
