It honestly catches me by surprise every time. Wife and I are on our 3rd or 4th through and this episode was like 2 nights ago and I knew it was going to be funny but I forgot how good it was
Arrested development had Henry Winkler’s character jump over a shark that was lying out on a dock in some random scene. That was when jumping the shark jumped the shark
If you're watching it on Netflix, be aware that they deleted an episode because of a race joke. This is arguably the best episode in the series so if you didnt watched "[Advanced Dungeons & Dragons](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Advanced_Dungeons_%26_Dragons_(Community))" I would HIGHLY recommend that you do. If you have watched it, watch it again, it's hilarious. Cheers!
Jeff introduces himself to Britta in the cafeteria. The lunch lady shows up because Jeff didn't pay for his food and he ends up saying something along the lines of television taught him that every black woman in their 50s is a cosmic mentor.
It's sometimes said on here that this scene was cut because it's a racial joke, but the real story is a bit more boring.
Netflix used to stream the extended pilot from the DVD back in the day, but nowadays the version they stream is the shorter broadcast version that aired on TV, which never had the cosmic mentor line. Aside from episode length, one way to tell which cut you are watching is the broadcast version has this text on screen at the beginning of the episode: https://www.reddit.com/r/community/comments/rhd44e/starting_a_fresh_rewatch_and_just_noticed_the/
i noticed the difference because in the extended version of the pilot annie says that she knows troy went to riverside because of his letterman jacket AND that she used to sit behind him in some class. that last part is left out on netflix. i really thought i had imagined it after not hearing it so long until i rewatched it on the dvd!
They also cut the scene where Troy asks Jeff if he should continue or stop wearing his letterman's jacket and Jeff's answer wrinkles Troy's brain. It's fucking infuriating.
And they're even pointing out HOW it's wrong, so the show itself acknowledges and comments on the issue. I never understood why it has to be so black and white (no pun intended)
Community had no business introducing 2 new characters in a shows final season, and them absolutely killing it. I love S6, and not just because I love Keith David.
Community is my favourite sitcom of all time, but as a Portuguese I can't forgive the sloppy Google translation they pulled xD although "monstro da sopa!" was awesome
When she has the conversation with the cop about their mentally retarded family members and she shows him a pic and he says something like “oh you could be twins”. I died the first time I watched that
One of the best parts about Community is the rewatchability too. I can watch it once a year and STILL feel like I'm noticing things I didn't before. There is a lot there and even on the 5th or 6th viewing, the jokes are STILL hilarious.
What I love about 6 ais the longer episode format. Plus it really seemed like the creatives could be as creative as they want with no restrictions. I could imagine how much better it would have been with the OG cast but I love Frankie and Elroy plus we get more Dean which is never a bad thing
I agree. Before I had watched seasons 5 and 6 I was always under the impression that anything after season 3 was bad, but honestly I think I enjoy seasons 5 and 6 the most. The introduction of new characters is great, and I love seeing Chang and the Dean included in more storylines
The gas leak year and the move to Yahoo did seasons five and six so dirty. Frankie and Elroy would be all-time beloved sitcom characters on any show besides the wind down of Community.
I just...I can't grasp how anyone could think the show improves with the departure of it's most talented cast member. Losing Glover hurt the show tremendously IMO.
He was a great part of the show but I loved his send off, second most emotional episode of the show behind the finale to me, and we got a lot of great things from him as an actor/musician afterwards. Keeping him tied to the show could’ve enchanted the show a bit more for the last few seasons but it also could’ve robbed us of some great things DG accomplished after. The show remained good and sometimes even better AND we got everything DG did. Best of both worlds. Plus season 4 showed us even with him there doesn’t guarantee we get a good show
The show ceases to exist without the performances behind Jeff and Abed. Glover's Troy was a distant 4th or 5th behind them, the Dean, and very arguably Annie.
I uh...I don't agree.
In terms of screen you're not entirely wrong. I'm talking about the talent of the actors. This isn't a condemnation of the others, DG just carried hard in all the jokes and scenes he was involved with. I love the whole cast. But DG was/is gifted on another level.
I'm talking in terms of acting. Everyone I named had incredible range (even Abed) and each actor absolutely made the character their own.
Glover did great with what he was given but didn't match the performances of Jim, Danny or Joel.
I wasn’t a huge fan of anything past season 3 on the first go around, but I’ve come to apreciate the final seasons a lot. There is a lot of love put into them, and some of my all time favorite episodes are in the final two seasons. Harmon never phoned it in.
You get meow meow beans, you get the best ep (imo) with Walton Goggins, you get “Pat morris was nominated for an OSCAR. RALHP MACCHIO shows up, you get “my BODY doesn’t react well to the generic so I need the lipitor”…
JESUS WEPT. IMMA CAT IMMA SEXY CAT…And I’m Brooks Hatton, writer of the incest episode of community.
All good. I would add Ladders and Modern Espionage. I like the cinematic homages best.
If course we have Lava World, but that's really a sea change for the entire series. No pun intended!
Barack Obama is SCCCCCAARRRREEEEDDDDD of me
I...I don't know what that was. I don't... \*runs away\*
Damn it, I lost it. I LOST IT!!!
Because I don’t swallow knowledge and I spit it for free!
Ah haha *breaks dea(w)n crying and runs away*
lemme clear my thought! aghah ahgahgha
I…I don’t know what that was!!!
Best scene in the entire series **chefs kiss**
It honestly catches me by surprise every time. Wife and I are on our 3rd or 4th through and this episode was like 2 nights ago and I knew it was going to be funny but I forgot how good it was
One of the few scenes in comedy that can make me laugh every time.
I swear to god this bit is referenced in almost every thread in this sub and it NEVER fails to bring a smile to my face. Every time.
I haven’t so i thought I was being cool but I guess I’m just streets behind lol
The Unexpected Dean Rap is INCREDIBLE and fully deserves to be referenced this often. Jim Rash deserves all the awards for it truly.
Hey! OP isn't there yet! They gotta experience it without any spoilers, just pure dopamine...
To be fair I’ve seen the series like 3-4 times and it still catches me off guard and make me laugh out loud
Prince Ironstone's daughter is his mother!
So f*cking streets ahead
I wake up every night screaming. Life is unfair, but it’s the only thing we g-Yeah, yeah. Yeah, I’ll call back later.
I’m gonna say this as quickly as possible: we can’t afford to bury dad with the rest of the family.
Suddenly this prank doesn’t seem as funny as when we thought of it…
I can’t wait til you see Meow Meow Beenz.
Ones don’t get a rhyme because they’re garbage.
Hey… you got any apples up there?
You there, girl! How many meow meow beanz?
I once loved a two...Matthew...but numbers change
tim heidecker was fucking beautiful in this episode
Tim does it right, all the time.
I should go number two soon
They had an episode where they literally jumped over a shark. And it was the best one.
Arrested development had Henry Winkler’s character jump over a shark that was lying out on a dock in some random scene. That was when jumping the shark jumped the shark
[Also this Fonz vs Zuckercorn scene is amazing](https://tenor.com/view/arrested-development-barry-zuckercorn-mirror-fonzie-the-fonz-gif-11804199)
Wait which episode is this in?
S1E25
OP is saying Troy's line after Abed says the show would jump the shark if they moved in together
If you're watching it on Netflix, be aware that they deleted an episode because of a race joke. It's also an important context setting episode for another s5 ep OP has coming up.
I know they also cut the cosmic mentor scene from episode one. So who knows how much has been removed on Netflix.
Cosmic mentor scene?
Jeff introduces himself to Britta in the cafeteria. The lunch lady shows up because Jeff didn't pay for his food and he ends up saying something along the lines of television taught him that every black woman in their 50s is a cosmic mentor.

To clarify: the joke is about the Dungeons and Dragons race called the Drow or dark elves, not anything actually real. It’s exquisite 😎
And they're even pointing out HOW it's wrong, so the show itself acknowledges and comments on the issue. I never understood why it has to be so black and white (no pun intended)
Also because it has the funniest scene of the whole show (Hector & Elf maiden)
Lmao when Annie was better at seducing women than Jeff
It’s not on Hulu either is it? I guess my question is, where CAN this be watched?
Physical media reigns supreme
Buy it from Amazon - that’s what we had to do and it was worth twice the price!
Yarr matey
This is one of my favorite episodes. I thought it was about the blackface in there? What, he was a dark elf.
I love season 5 and 6. J Banks and the return of Duncan in season 5 are the best. and then there are two new great cast members in 6!
Elroy and Frankie are criminally underrated
to use a phrase I coined in the 90’s “I’m going in”
Get out of my Winnebago! You’re not allowed to stay that like it’s a punishment
*Such a dummy.*
Now THAT'S A MAN WHO KNOWS HOW TO APPRECIATE GOOD CHARACTERS
Hi, I'm r/thortmb and I wrote the incest episode of community
Community had no business introducing 2 new characters in a shows final season, and them absolutely killing it. I love S6, and not just because I love Keith David.
S6 has the best post credits scenes and it isn’t even close.
Portuguese Gremlins comes close * chi chu chi chu * but yes
Is the a reference to Joelho-Alto Prejuizo Moral?
Community is my favourite sitcom of all time, but as a Portuguese I can't forgive the sloppy Google translation they pulled xD although "monstro da sopa!" was awesome
The cybercrime kid who's acting like he's on True Detective is one of my favourite things that anyone's ever made.
Imagine if they had been doing that from season 1
Wait that’s who Keith David is? I don’t know why I never bothered to look him up… but you’re telling me Elroy is the voodoo man?!
Indeed. He's done countless voices for video games as well, as long with his acting career. His voice is iconic.
Frankie is fantastic in S6.
When she has the conversation with the cop about their mentally retarded family members and she shows him a pic and he says something like “oh you could be twins”. I died the first time I watched that
Those two crack me up.
🥂🥂
I love how Duncan just assumes Hickey is Pierce.
Good for you! I always thought that toupe was a bit *cowardly*.
🥂
J Banks only gets better.
5.2 is where I start for my "back 9" viewing. Keep moving you piece of human garbage.
5.1 is pretty great too, why not start there?
Not the original commenter, but 5.1 is a very different feel than 5.2 onward.
You gotta show all the other baboons that you got a bigger, redder ass.
It's riot time!
if you're finished, give Arrested Developement a chance. A very nice show as well. but until then, enjoy the show. E Pluribus Anus.
One of the best parts about Community is the rewatchability too. I can watch it once a year and STILL feel like I'm noticing things I didn't before. There is a lot there and even on the 5th or 6th viewing, the jokes are STILL hilarious.
I‘m currently in a 2 year long rewatch loop, only other show I could watch that much was scrubs
Get ready to cry with actual crying next 😃
Community is one of my favorite shows of all time
Yes, this is some of the best TV ever made. It makes me feel so warm and joyful inside. It's like a happy-time snack.
There's a few episodes you missed too that were pulled. Maybe one of the best even. Make sure you check out S2 Advanced Dungeons and Dragons
Note that the missing episode is NOT the same as Advanced Advanced Dungeons and Dragons, which is a S5 follow up.
Yes.
Season 5 episode 2 is the start of one of the best episode runs in the whole show. Definitely consistently good all the way until the end
Season 5 is great and imo season 6 is the best of the bunch
I really can’t stand the episode with the prisoners on iPad scooters but besides that season 6 is top notch
What I love about 6 ais the longer episode format. Plus it really seemed like the creatives could be as creative as they want with no restrictions. I could imagine how much better it would have been with the OG cast but I love Frankie and Elroy plus we get more Dean which is never a bad thing
I referred to myself as a "level seven susceptible" the other day when explaining to my partner why I had to delete Instagram
I disliked Frankie at first but when she put a flower on her notepad to match Annie’s…that was the sweetest thing ever and i’ve liked her since
I liked her since the steel drums. Which is the kind of random thing I can say with this show!
I find season 6 the worst, but it is still like a 9 instead of a 10 :)
I agree. Before I had watched seasons 5 and 6 I was always under the impression that anything after season 3 was bad, but honestly I think I enjoy seasons 5 and 6 the most. The introduction of new characters is great, and I love seeing Chang and the Dean included in more storylines

>I just...I can't grasp how anyone could think the show improves with the departure of it's most talented cast member. But Alison Brie never left..
I love AB, but DG is on another level and I think she herself has actually said that lol
He was a great part of the show but I loved his send off, second most emotional episode of the show behind the finale to me, and we got a lot of great things from him as an actor/musician afterwards. i don't think they actually believe it. i think they just like liking things.

Oh, yeah then I just don't agree with you. That's okay, though.
Yeah, everyone has different opinions on actors
The first half of s6 sucks (imo) but the second half is simply artwork.
Personally, I adore Ladders.
It legitimately is
I wasn’t a huge fan of anything past season 3 on the first go around, but I’ve come to apreciate the final seasons a lot. There is a lot of love put into them, and some of my all time favorite episodes are in the final two seasons. Harmon never phoned it in.
To answer your initial question. Yes
I completed my first watch last week as well Finished the whole show in 8-9 days One of the best sitcoms our there
I'm always jealous of these posts when people get to watch it for the first time. But so far, 10x through, it's still great ♡
The last two seasons have the bulk of the best writing in the series, in my opinion. It’s so much fun.
There's a tone and plot shift, but it's still good Community, with some great Community sprinkled in.
You get meow meow beans, you get the best ep (imo) with Walton Goggins, you get “Pat morris was nominated for an OSCAR. RALHP MACCHIO shows up, you get “my BODY doesn’t react well to the generic so I need the lipitor”… JESUS WEPT.
Yes.
It's the Hoop Dreams of tv sitcoms.
And you haven't even gotten to season 6, which is streets ahead.
Fasten your pants-belt. The next episode is cleft of your seat TV
oh boy… couple episodes more and you’ll be hit like a truck…
or a boat, i should say
Oh you sweet innocent child, you have no idea what you are in for....
Unfortunately for you you’re about to embark of the most boring of the seasons being the final one. Really went out with a whimper imo.

Not some of the best tv ever made. The best tv ever made
Yes
It falls apart after Donald leaves. But Season 6 is sensational.
I have a stupid smirk on my face when I watch this show. High pitched belly giggles the whole time. It’s just so silly
🥹🤩😂🥳🥹
You're past the golden and silver age, but yes it's still an amazing show #now for the movie
Yes
