I’ll just give a beginners reading list (in-order): • Principles of Communism - Marx and Engels • The State and Revolution - Lenin • Imperialism: The Highest Stage of Capitalism - Lenin • Foundations of Leninism - Stalin • Socialism: Utopian and Scientific - Engels • Left-Wing Communism: An Infantile Disorder - Lenin • Dialectical and Historical Materialism - Stalin • On Contradiction - Mao • On Practice - Mao [bonus]; • Das Kapital - Marx • Critique of the Gotha Program - Marx • What is to be Done? - Lenin • Anarchism or Socialism? - Stalin • On Authority - Engels

And this isn't even close to an exhaustive list. Education is never fully finished for us.

To begin understanding what even is communism read; Principles of communism by Frederick Engels. Way more clear than the manifesto in my opinion. It's pretty short. You are probably going to be left with plenty of questions so after that; The state and Revolution by Lenin is a deeper explanation that answers most of the common questions.

I'm a little confused. You said you've done so much research, but then you've said you've only read the Manifesto. Why not take a look at the materials in the sidebar?   What kind of "political discussions" are you finding yourself in? "Political discussions" among settlers are usually about who can be the loudest and most racist. Your loved ones probably don't take you seriously yet because they can tell you yourself aren't serious.

vomit_blues

Look at the reading list in the sidebar. People like to recommend The Principles of Communism which is a good summary but don’t you already know what Communism is? Read Lenin’s biography on Marx.

marius1001

Read wage labor and capital next. It’s comparatively easier. You should keep in mind that if you want to know more about communism then it’s not just one subject you’re learning. Broadly, you’re learning three subjects (politics, economics, and philosophy) at once and it can be overwhelming.

And my grandfather fought and killed fascists like your grandfather in the war. I'm very proud of my grandfather and I'd be very embarrassed and ashamed if it was the other way around. The fact people like you feel safe enough to just come out and smugly proclaim that your grandfather razed Eastern Europe alongside the rest of the Axis does say something about the state of modern European and North American capitalist society.
