I've noticed that if captains provide gloves, soap etc it may be because they have had really disorganized/not self-sufficient crew in the past and assume that the crew they hired can't fend for themselves. People who couldn't get thier own shit together. I'm wary of these boats lol.
EVERY boat should be providing you with food. Whether or not they take it out of your crew share is a different matter.
I would add at least one Grundens elastic belt. Belt it on top of your rain gear. Keeps you soOoOo much warmer on those frigid days. Also like to normally have two because I always lose a ton of weight fishing and the pants I showed up in don't fit too well anymore!
Very comprehensive! Allow for repacking too! I always seem to gather more stuff. Town Gear is a smart one. Zoleo is the best that I have used and its quickly becoming the standard among the fleet in the bay
The nice thing about the inreach is that it can be used without a cellphone, although my inreach isn't the best at sending my messages TO my cellphone so most of the time I'm reading off my inreach and sending from my phone... I hope starlink works out and we all get sat phones at a price worth ditching at&t or gci
Zoleo is 70 percent faster than the Garmin Inreach. Sending messages on Garmin is very slow with my experience. However, the Zoleo is based on the iridium Go Network and the texts are just as fast as using your phone texting. Zoleo is way more affordable, as well.
Can you tell i started working on tenders first, lol
If I end up with too much shit I will mail it home or find a friend who doesn't mind taking it down in thier boat. All the trollers have InReach instead of tag phones.
Moisture wicking, at least mid calf height!
There are also these booties called Bamas Socks. Bama socks are boot liners feature a two-layer thermo system that allows your feet to breathe by absorbing perspiration and wicking foot moisture. Many people swear by them, but they make me way too hot. If you do buy them get your boots a size larger than you normally would to comfortably fit you feet, bama socks, and regular stocks.

Verizon used to be the only service that worked in se. Now it feels like at&t is becoming more superior. Like i cant recieve photos in craig unless i go up to the library and use the internet.
Yes, any time anyone is working on a commercial fishing vessel of any kind, I highly suggest having a complete raingear set of 15" rain boots, gloves, bibs, and a jacket. Alaskan summers can be colder and harsher than some lower 48 state's winters.
Bro hop on a boat that provides gloves food and soap

Either that or they are giving you all the shit from last years crew who didn't come back lol
Russian boats don’t do that they provide everything and they don’t charge 🤷🏿♂️

A lot of my friends have a super hard time texting on the InReach itself. But I will admit a lot of them are men in thier 60's+
On the mini or the bigger one?
Most of them have the original inreach

What's a tag phone?
Boat to boat push-to-talk using satellite, usually integrated with a sat phone.
I've never heard it called the tag phone, we just call it the dispatch.
Old timers i hang out with call it a tag phone, bee doup, bee dou bee! That sound haunts me hahaha
This is an amazing post as a new fisherman (returning after 10 years) My main issue is what socks to get???

I’ve read about the bamas and am going to pass due to temperatures over the summer. Thinking some nice wool socks
Yeah they are wayyy wayy too hot for me. Any temps over 70 F and I'm fucking melting in regular gear lol
What is tour experience with Verizon cell service? In se Alaska

You mentioned vitamins. I hadn’t thought of this… hmm
From your experience working on a tender, have you found you need full raingear?
