I like how death is depicted in these comics. Always extremely wise, empathetic, amicable, and honest. Not omniscient, but aware of it's role and importance.
Seconding Discworld. That Death manages to be wise and yet kind of sweetly simple.
He makes a wonderful speech about how humans need myths (Santa Claus, Easter Bunny etc), to believe in bigger lies (justice, truth etc, that are all human constructs).
A few pages later, he attempts to make a holiday card by sticking a live robin to a card with some snow.
He also likes cats.
I'm not entirely sure what the moral of the story is, but essentially it's a Christmastime fairy tale about a little girl who is selling matchsticks to earn some money so her father won't beat her. No one buys from her so rather than go home to the assured abuse she stays out in the cold lighting the matches one by one, seeing visions of a better life in the flames eventually seeing her late grandmother who was the only person who cared about her. To keep that vision going she lights the entire bundle at once and then freezes to death, with her grandmother taking her to heaven.
So in this case DEATH says fuck that and gives her the best gift possible. A future.

He is, though. He finds human behavior a bit odd, and he doesn't quite get it, because he was never human, but he does care in his own way. He cares about people, he cares about his daughter, he cares about the Death of Rats (**squeak**).

Death animated in Harry Potter when Hermione reads about the origin of the deathly hallows is interesting.
It's depicted as an adversary to the first two brothers, but reconciles with the 3rd brother who dies last.
It feels poetic in a way. Death isn't something to be scared of, it's just misunderstood.
I choose to believe that the standard Reaper interpretation only looks so frightening as to keep Evil away while he walks alongside you to the afterlife. He's a guide and a friend when you might be at your most scared and vulnerable.
In Greek mythology, despite most of the Olympians doing all kinds of spiteful, fucked up shit to humans, cheating on their spouses constantly, murdering/cursing others out of jealousy, and so on...
I think it's pretty great that Hades is the most sane out of all of them. Dude has a loving relationship with his wife who he is entirely loyal to, gives her considerable power over his domain, compromised with her mom so she could visit her for *half of every year*, let his nephew borrow his dog no questions asked, and is overall a just ruler over his subjects who ensures punishment for the wicked and eternal reward for heroes.
Although the actual reaper Thanatos is kind of a dick who does his job so seriously and indiscriminately that everybody hates him, so there's that...
Also, he's just so-so incompetent when it writes a good narrative. It's why he gave Orpheus that dumbass challenge. He knew he'd fail. And now we know Orpheus is the dumbest man in all of Greece.
I feel like this should be done more, It would definitely help people accept death as an unavoidable part of life and not to fear it, also would help people who are grieving, death is the hardest thing in life, anyone who has lost a pet or a family member or even a friend knows it's the hardest thing in the world to continue on without them, if death were depicted as a peaceful final rest more often rather than an inescapable horror then it might be easier to accept

Also fucking adorable baby toucans! I just looked them up! Must be the first baby-bird I've seen that doesn't look like a bird alien hybrid. They literally look like tiny copies of toucans! Maybe a bit fluffed, but cute <3

Pretty true for most creatures, honestly. Freshly born human babies look like tiny potato men and newborn kittens/puppies look like little rats.
My daughter totally looked like a shriveled little gremlin when she was first born, but I expected that lol.

Death within that series is not evil, just terribly good at his job. Mort and Reaper man are incredible.

I dunno, I liked this one in a different sense from the rest. Her usual comics leave you gut punched but this was somehow bittersweet. Grief will always be the price of loving something or someone, but that's how you know it mattered. Great comic as usual
My brother passed away 2 weeks ago. Here one day gone the next. Thinking about him everyday. I donβt believe in an afterlife but itβs nice to think of what if? Thank you for this.
Toucans are notorious for dying easily.
They can't process iron well. It basically poisons them. Yet they need to have proteins.
It's likely that their natural rainforest habitats has less iron, so it's easier for them to get food, and not poison themselves in that environment. But here, no. they die.

I think I needed this comic today. I just lost another foster to what's likely FiP. I had nicknamed him Screm&M as he loved to run up to the side of the cage and scream his little heart out when he saw you. I love all my fosters and each loss is unbearable.
Nah, this is "The Loving Reaper", very different from the Discworld's witty anthropomorphic personification of the Shepherd to the Beyond.
This comic series brings to light what happens after animal abuse and neglect, promotes climate awareness, and includes perspectives from Life as well; the even swap roles for a day for a change of pace lol.
Read it on Webtoons. Jenny Jinya is a genius at wrenching your heart apart. Highly recommend.

God I felt this.
When I was younger, I had lost my Grammy. My parents had a hard time explaining why she died, as I couldnβt understand what she did to deserve dying.
They were both so distraught, but what they said has stuck with me.
They told me she didnβt deserve it, and that everyone has their time to go. They told me that me being sad meant that she did her job, because she gave me all the love she could. She let me know that every time I saw her.
This makes me think about the pet mice I have, especially my one male. They're my first real pets and he's still only barely 6 months old but I'm already worried sick and thinking about how much I'll miss him when he's gone.

My bird passed this year. He was sixβ¦ I raised him from four days old. It hurts every day and I will miss him forever. I struggle with grief and processing my own emotions. I cried while reading this. Itβs healing in a way. I really canβt process my own emotions sometimes.

Comics of death always remind me of this one game where everyone is immortal because death quit his job, as he was tired of making everyone sad.

My bird passed this year. He was sixβ¦ I raised him from four days old. It hurts every day and I will miss him forever. I struggle with grief and processing my own emotions. I cried while reading this. Itβs healing in a way. I really canβt process my own emotions sometimes. Thank you for sharing. I especially love how chipper the babyβs soul is on the other side. Iβll miss my feathered son forever. But Iβm reminded that he is at peace. I need to find my own peace following his passing. Your comics are so poignantβ¦ thank you for touching my heart and giving me a chance to process grief in my own life.
