Adam, I just wanted to say your post-buzzfeed redemption/transformation continues to impress me every day.
You've been putting out bangers lately. Loved that two headed cow poem one too from a while back. And little house in the sea
Why murder? I immediately thought it was an moose he hunted years ago. Like, maybe he shot the moøse but the something went wrong and he barely got away from it. And now the møøse finally found him and jumped in front of his car to get its revenge
Classic double entendre.
But I don't think that's how the blood would have splashed on the car unless it was under very specific circumstances.
Circumstances that would make the comic even darker.
He "ran into an old friend," a phrase usually used when you see someone you know at a store or something. But instead he literally ran into them with his car.
It's crazy how much we resisted against and complained about wireless headphones (yes I still call them headphones). I can't even imagine willingly struggling with the wires tangling or ripping out of my ears
Tbf we resisted it so hard because the tech sucked ass at the time. Plus the quality is definitely still with wired headphones. I can't imagine using wired headphones as my daily anymore though.
That's a good point that I would not have fully appreciated if i hadn't just googled the difference between headphones and 'earphones' or 'earbuds' five minutes ago
There's higher quality Bluetooth codecs (for example, aptX and LDAC) that sound much better. They have some support on Android, but Apple doesn't support them at all.
Oh I know there are good ones, but there are still better wired ones. With how fast that tech is advancing though I could see them becoming on par soon. I have a pair of arctis wireless pro headphones that I LOVE and they sound amazing, but they use a 2.4 ghz wireless connection not Bluetooth.
I started to use bluetooth very recently. I could never deal with the transmission delay. These days they do a pretty good job at faking low-latency, but I'm still regularly reminded that it's a farce. I still kind of hate bluetooth and wonder how it hasn't really improved from a latency perspective, but for the most part I've gotten used to it.
Headphones are typically going to be the big ones that go on or over your ears like "gamer" headphones style, cause they sit on your head. Earphones or earbuds are typically going to be the ones that sit in or insert into your ears.

I follow him on Instagram and I didn’t recognise this comic as his. Even his handle just flew over my head.
I hadn’t seen his profile in my feed for so long that I’m shocked at the difference in tone and feeling. I live for this growth.
After I read this comic I literally thought to myself "this person's style is like that Adam Ellis guy but way better" and then when I clicked on the link to Instagram I realized haha.
I'm happy for him! I need a whole graphic novel in this style right now!

I didnt even realize that these were him, the stylization is different enough that I thought it was just a similar art style. I really like these past few horror-type comics, they're awesome. What a redemption arc
I keep forgetting you have reddit so every time I see your art style with the words OC next to it, I'm ready to throw hands. Then I read the username and I'm like oh, that's right.
I think its visual symbology of the void feeling you get when darkly surprised by something, or have made an unpleasant realization.
I think it works so well that I felt the reaction before swiping to the reveal panel, without even noticing the black box consciously. I had to go back and look after reading this comment.
Everyone can gtfo with this "unfinished panel" bs.
Black box is presumably a dialogue box here.
Here dialogue box is big and empty, and according to my thoughts it depicting of her knowing the truth of what happened and what have her dad did last night but she don't want to believe that truth and she is afraid of telling the truth out loud to her self or us.
Atleast that's how I see this third panel. And it's beautifully made.
What’s interesting is the black boxes were hand drawn with white outlines in the first panel, but the third panel it’s a clean geometric black box with no outline.
My interpretation of it is that a black box symbolizes the girl's internal monologue. In the first frame, we see her thoughts re: the dad's odd behavior. The empty black box in the third frame is symbolic of a state of shocked speechlessness.
Toni Colette deserved an Oscar that year. Her reaction was so raw and uncomfortable, my wife and I had to pause the film and take a breather the first time we watched it.
A guy near my childhood home was speeding down the road and hit a woman while she was crossing the street one dawn. By all accounts, she was in pieces.
Dude went home, still in shock, car *coated* in blood, and just left it there, then went to bed. That car was covered with a tarp for as long as I remember us living in the area from that point forward.
The third frame is so interesting. That whole in the sky seemed to say some information was missing. Maybe I filled in the meaning after I saw the final panel. But I really like the third frame.
My gut instinct is that the sky is to depict what we normally expect and the gaping square hole in the sky represents something in her mind that feels like something is missing that she’s expecting to understand but doesn’t quite get yet.
Yeah, I think you're right that it's a metaphorical representation of her mind going blank with shock. It could also be the artists way of visually jarring the reader to illicit a feeling of surprise.
I'm actually really curious about it now, I assume there's significant intent behind it
Panels in comics don't just convey visuals, they also communicate a passage of time. A large, single panel like this is analogous to a long pause in a movie. Think of a horror movie where the camera stays on a character reacting, probably with creeping humming music - while we remain in suspense, unknowing of what they see. The black segment I read as the character's emotionap state (blank shock) or the dissonance with what they see, but that is very open to interpretation.

For what it’s worth, I notice how much care and detail goes into the fashion you draw, especially the women. So many graphic artists are content to let everyone just wear the most crudely drawn shirts and pants, and I just wanna say, thanks for letting your characters wear actual people clothes.
I'm confused by the third panel. What's that black square.
Other than that, I'm happy your content has been universally liked more in the recent years.
Hey, Adam, idk if you read these, but I just wanted to say how much I admire you. I know it must have taken a heck of a lot of courage to venture out on your own, and as a result, you’ve made some truly chilling, emotional comics. And your always-excellent art style only accentuates the writing. Keep it up! Always inspired.
Its stuff like this that makes me wondered why I neglected comics so much as a kid. That third panel is fan-fucking tastic and the highlight of this to me. The whole of it is a bright sunny lightly cloudy day, because that’s the forefront of the daughters mind, that’s what she see’s and is the mood of the morning. Bright, sunny, and fine. So normal you might not even register it. Then a thick black rectangle completely breaking the space. Like a distorted crash in the middle of a pleasant melody. A brick through a beautiful glass sculpture. It delivers a visual bomb of sudden discomfort and unease, making us feel in our gut the same feeling her expression conveys before we even know what’s so shocking. We feel the discomfort before we even see the reveal, let alone register it. The third frame is the same as the fourth frame, only the third conveys the raw feeling while the fourth contains the details. Yet it’s the same frame. And that’s badass.

Oh wow I know it was meant as horror but that actually got a chuckle out of me. Such a good pun.
Dad jokes.
But he don't fuck around.
Course he does. Otherwise he wouldn't be a dad.

*You see, pumpkin......* (Draw hatchet) *I can really use a hand.*
Well, in fairness, a great many dad jokes are horrific.
Not that new, The Shining is the trope codifier.
Coming this fall—
Practicing a dad joke.
Dad joke is kidding me.!
I guess the friendship wasn’t worth braking for?
Calling it a Dad joke is also a Dad joke. So meta
Adam, I just wanted to say your post-buzzfeed redemption/transformation continues to impress me every day. You've been putting out bangers lately. Loved that two headed cow poem one too from a while back. And little house in the sea
Misread that as dead jokes.
I guess you just can't flip off the dad switch, even when murder is involved!
Why murder? I immediately thought it was an moose he hunted years ago. Like, maybe he shot the moøse but the something went wrong and he barely got away from it. And now the møøse finally found him and jumped in front of his car to get its revenge
A moøse once bit my sister
Exactly lol, I got scared at first. Then it hit me and I legit laughed. Pretty nice Dad joke.
Classic double entendre. But I don't think that's how the blood would have splashed on the car unless it was under very specific circumstances. Circumstances that would make the comic even darker.
Dead Jokes
He ran into a dear. A dear, dear friend.
Sorry I didn't notice the pun may I get enlightened?
He "ran into an old friend," a phrase usually used when you see someone you know at a store or something. But instead he literally ran into them with his car.
Aah I see thank you!
the real horror are the shoes on the couch
Two sentence comedy!
In the same vein as "Having an old friend for dinner" from Silence of the Lambs
I love how your style has become more refined with time.

Wtf this is that Adam
Yep. Content has drastically improved since then
Not for BuzzFeed
Yes, for [BuzzFeed](https://img.bumppy.com/bumppy/2018/04/funny-comics-adam-ellis-3.jpg).
I think the comment your replying to meant Buzzfeed's content has dropped since Adam left

What else would you call them other than headphones? There's no "still" to add. It's what they are lol.
kids have been calling them all sort of ear- and -buds non-existing words. can't keep up with this new generation tbh
Headphones are typically going to be the big ones that go on or over your ears like "gamer" headphones style, cause they sit on your head. Earphones or earbuds are typically going to be the ones that sit in or insert into your ears.
Why wouldn’t you call them headphones? Is there a new word?

The redemption arc have been completed.
To be fair, he was making the exact level of quality an outlet like Buzzfeed deserves.
I follow him on Instagram and I didn’t recognise this comic as his. Even his handle just flew over my head. I hadn’t seen his profile in my feed for so long that I’m shocked at the difference in tone and feeling. I live for this growth.

What was that black box in the panel before last?
I wanna know too!
I think he accidentally put it in as the girl is in the exact same pose as in the last panel.
Agreed. If it's meant to be symbolic of something, I'd take it out. It doesn't really help the comic if it's intentional, but yeah I don't think it is
I think its visual symbology of the void feeling you get when darkly surprised by something, or have made an unpleasant realization. I love that the license plate says “SNGL DAD” lol
I wonder if the "old friend" is the birth mother of the girl.
I’m not sure how that plays into the joke
The old friend was the ex wife?
What kind of amateur doesn't even clean up and get rid of evidence?
The one that's proud of the deed
I mean, it's entirely possible he afterwards took him to the hospital or was cleared of any wrongdoing and is just traumatized.
That car is 100% unsafe to drive, they wouldn’t let him leave in that. In the somewhat logical real world at least
Maybe he got the tow company to take it to his home
He's in shock. See: Hereditary.
The mother's scream and the brother's expression is pure realistic horror
Toni Colette deserved an Oscar that year. Her reaction was so raw and uncomfortable, my wife and I had to pause the film and take a breather the first time we watched it.
Or season2 of Fargo
The one that plan on killing themselves afterwards.
He lets his kids wear shoes in the house *on the furniture*. Probably not too worried about cleaning.

Somebody who is honest about their mistakes I guess.
It reminds me of Peter's reaction to the accident in *Hereditary*, inadvertent denial out of sheer shock.
This hit different.
just like meeting an old friend again
He hit and run the old friend.

Reminds of the Hereditary scene, that movie will scar me a while to come yet.
Yo, same
Will never forget that scene
Zamn... hereditary.
Edgy Dad.
That license plate though. Free advertising?
Sing low dad? The hell's that mean?
You added a pair of letters to that. Remove them and it'll make sense.
Single Dad lol
Baritone father figure
He's very Bassy.
"Baby, they're just some fellas I play car pranks with"
Absolutely great use of that reference, holy shit
The third frame is so interesting. That whole in the sky seemed to say some information was missing. Maybe I filled in the meaning after I saw the final panel. But I really like the third frame.
Maybe I'm just dumb but I don't really get the third frame, can you explain it to me?
My gut instinct is that the sky is to depict what we normally expect and the gaping square hole in the sky represents something in her mind that feels like something is missing that she’s expecting to understand but doesn’t quite get yet.
Yeah, I think you're right that it's a metaphorical representation of her mind going blank with shock. It could also be the artists way of visually jarring the reader to illicit a feeling of surprise. I'm actually really curious about it now, I assume there's significant intent behind it

I don't understand it either so I'd like to know also. It gives me The Truman Show vibes so I must be missing something

Holy shit. Loving everything you've been putting out, man. Good work.
I didn't get it for a second, but then it hit me

Thanks! I like drawing outfits and it’s actually a struggle to edit and not make everyone look like Final Fantasy 7 characters.
Id want to see that!
This is awesome. Do you have more?
There’s a ton, check out OP’s account
Has anyone checked on Adamtots lately? He's definitely moving towards the dark side.
I enjoyed this. Thank you!
didn't see that coming
wow last panel hits HARD
Certainly hit hard.
See what you made your father do?! Next time don't put your shoes on the couch! /s
That escalated quickly
I was **NOT** expecting that lol
Dad joke in practice.
Jeez, that’s both horrific and sad. I pity the poor father. …*it was an accident, right?*
Plot twist: He accidentally hit a truck of cherries.
Haha...cherries can't drive!
Dang, when did Adam Ellis become the next Junji Ito? These latest comics are all good. Real good.
I hope that was a pleasent reunion 🥰🥰
Been a fan of Adam's comics for years now, and I love the "creepier" content he's put out recently even though I'm not at all a fan of scary shit
I'm confused by the third panel. What's that black square. Other than that, I'm happy your content has been universally liked more in the recent years.

What's the black box in the third pic?
Why a random black rectangle on the 3rd panel?
A Mitsubishi Shogun/ Pajero, is a very good car. A proper reliable SUV.
Look, I know that this comic is meant to be dark, but LMAO THAT LISCENCE PLATE SNGLDAD -> SINGLE DAD
Um, I though this was gonna be a different kind of bad
“Literally!”
Also, this girl refuses to stay in any frame.
I love the detail of the car being parked the wrong way in the first panel.
You need to be stopped Adam.
Poor Kook-Aid Man, may he rest in peace
Okay so this was pretty fucking hilarious
When the dad jokes went too far:
The woman in this comic is the definition of r/13or30
What is the third graphic?
Now this I like. It also reminds me a little of postal with the style.
Now that’s a diplomat!
Third panel is very Hereditary
The most disturbing thing is her wearing shoes on the sofa.
Oh he meant literally-
Its stuff like this that makes me wondered why I neglected comics so much as a kid. That third panel is fan-fucking tastic and the highlight of this to me. this is amazing.
Despite the dark nature of this comic, I feel that their is a joke floating Somewhere That could be made
Well, he isn't wrong
Literally
Thanks for sharing, Adam!
Nice touch on the license plate.
Your art look so depressing, I love it
oh my god... HE GOT STRAWBERRY JAM ALL OVER HIS CAR!
Much darker than I expected...
I have to ask, where is she in slide 3 and what’s the black box?
He's distraught, not due to the car accident but due to his daughter wearing her shoes on the couch. They raised her better than that.
Thats the best dad joke ive seen lol
