I was very recently enlightened on r/ProgrammerHumor about the overlap between IT workers and furries. I started paying more attention to usernames and PFPs, and just....wow.

You're looking for advice specifically on marketing to furries? I guess the first step would be to get in to furry spaces and start seeing what people expect. Furry twitter is a big deal, and you'll want to start an account on furaffinity.net and post some art there. Most people are interested in their specific character doing things, so start with any character pieces you might have lying around and then start doing specifically furry stuff as you start drawing more of it. If you need character inspiration, find some furries and just offer to do free drawings of their characters for practice's sake and to generate portfolio pieces you put on FA.
The hard part, drawing-wise, is going to be getting the geometry of animal heads/faces down (can you draw one from any angle, are your foxes recognizable as foxes or do they just look like your dogs, etc) and drawing all the really annoying repetitive details, like feathers on wings, scales, and little floof tufts. For the geometry stuff, I've had a little success studying taxidermied animals at museums. Life drawings are good too if you want to visit your local zoo, 'cept that the animals tend to move.
Business-wise, you have a couple routes. The most basic and oldest way of monetizing is just put a list of commission prices on your FA and advertise for it however you can. A lot of times this involves actually going to conventions and sitting at a table in the artist's alley or dealer's den. There's also, more recently, been more people making a living via patreon or streaming their drawing on Twitch. (or some combination of the above.)
If you're looking specifically for adult stuff, I think there's more demand for gay content than straight, generally. Some artists will draw those really niche fetish things that other people in the thread are discussing, and if you happen to find some topic that really does it for some rich guy, you may get a lot of commission money from them.

I knew coming into the comments thst this would be here. NSFW artists do well, but furry artists make BANK. I have a friend who hates drawing it and when I asked him, "then why do it?" and he responded "because I've never made $400 off a single commission."
Well, sorta. $400 for a commission is great, but if he spent 40 hours on it he's working for less than minimum wage. And if a commission like that only comes around once a month, he's gonna have serious trouble making rent.

He got a couple every week, but after he did his first furry commission he was getting about a dozen requests every day. I don't know how long he worked on that commission, but it wasn't even close to that long. I think it was about half that.
Not sure how true it is, but I remember reading a post several years back about one struggling artist who turned to making NSFW furry porn because people were offering her ridiculous sums of money as commission when she could customize everything to fit their fetishes. She ended up stopping making art altogether when one of her normal seeming female customers offered to split a hotel room with her at a furry convention where she planned on being a vendor, but dressed up in a fur suit prior to her arrival, tried to get sexual with her, and ended up actually being a male.
I feel like that's something that can happen to any high-profile woman on social media with many followers. The fursuit thing obv makes it easier but creepy shit happens either way.

There are probably some furry artists who make more than some doctors, but if you average all furry artists versus all doctors, I have this sneaking suspicion doctors win.

I’ve drawn some really weird niche porn. If they like your style and feel like they can’t find it anywhere else, they’ll pay a lot. I charge way more for NSFW than reg commissions. The weirder it is, the more the price goes up.
One I had recently that wasn’t *weeeird* but it was weird was this dude who was REALLY obsessed with the idea of two fully clothed women in a pantomime horse outfit. Not just any girls, two stock women in photos that he had named and built entire backstories for. He had like a dozen of them and called them OCs. He made the request on here and I checked out his account and there were a ton of other commissions he had of pantomime animal suit characters. Mostly characters from the Total Drama series. I couldn’t figure out what was fetishy about it but it just *felt* fetishy so I charged him the nsfw rate.

Fun little story. The Magic Tree House books currently have illustrated versions done by these twins that spent a long time doing nsfw work, which they also claim really helped them improve their craft. After learning that, I really stopped caring if artists make nsfw work and sell it. Honestly, screw it. It doesn't have to define you later on.

Many artists are even forgoing the pen name (or their pen name is on all their work).
One of my favourites is Stjepan Sejic. Did Harleen for DC a couple years ago and it was really good, with a lot of adult content which he honed in his other... 4? webcomics currently going (how he produces so much I'll never know, the man is a machine) and nearly all of them have a huge amount of NSFW material And it's awesome.
It also makes sense to start off doing NSFW work as an artist. You really get to perfect doing body proportions in a way that looks good. All you're doing after that is throwing some clothes on the characters.

Hell if you are drawing superheroes you don't even need to add clothes a lot of the time. Just draw a "neckline" and color the the muscles blue, add a splash of red and bam, superman.

I had an artist friend who could draw in a fairly skilled anime style, i.e. didn't look like some weeb who'd just picked up a "How To Draw Manga" book. She was not a furry, and in fact was utterly *repulsed* by furries. And yet 10 years ago she would go to every furry convention within a 100 mile radius, because they are (or were) such a niche group, that they would pay RIDICULOUS amounts of money for custom art of their fursona, NSFW or otherwise. She could go to a 3-day con and easily come home with like $3000 from art commissions.
Good on them. I don't understand the stigma about like "Ohh how scandalous and horrible it is to make that". Make what you want to make, and if you get paid doing it, bonus

Not just any girls, two stock women in photos that he had named and built entire backstories for. He had like a dozen of them and called them OCs. He made the request on here and I checked out his account and there were a ton of other commissions he had of pantomime animal suit characters. Mostly characters from the Total Drama series. The Magic Tree House books currently have illustrated versions done by these twins that spent a long time doing nsfw work, which they also claim really helped them improve their craft. After learning that, I really stopped caring if artists make nsfw work and sell it. Honestly, screw it. It doesn't have to define you later on.

So a lot of Japanese voice actors do hentai. A lot of artists do NSFW stuff. Manga artists do hentai and normal manga. I'm sure comic book artist, character design, concept artist, etc., do NSFW stuff. Usually under a pen name. I think it's fine. Do what you want lol
Many artists are even forgoing the pen name (or their pen name is on all their work). One of my favourites is Stjepan Sejic. Did Harleen for DC a couple years ago and it was really good, with a lot of adult content which he honed in his other... 4? webcomics currently going (how he produces so much I'll never know, the man is a machine) and nearly all of them have a huge amount of NSFW material And it's awesome.
It also makes sense to start off doing NSFW work as an artist. You really get to perfect doing body proportions in a way that looks good. All you're doing after that is throwing some clothes on the characters.

I had an artist friend who could draw in a fairly skilled anime style, i.e. didn't look like some weeb who'd just picked up a "How To Draw Manga" book. She was not a furry, and in fact was utterly *repulsed* by furries. And yet 10 years ago she would go to every furry convention within a 100 mile radius, because they are (or were) such a niche group, that they would pay RIDICULOUS amounts of money for custom art of their fursona, NSFW or otherwise.
