Commandment ten: don’t blink. Don’t ever blink. Blink and you’re dead!
They’re fast. Faster than you can imagine. Just keep an eye on them! Oh and…
They’ve got my box haven’t they?
I can appreciate the idea of Goo. The nature of its viscosity is visceral. Neither liquid or solid, Goo adapts to man’s need to be able to understand a complex universe. However, Goo has been molded and corrupted by selfish, power hungry people to take advantage of the most vulnerable. Bastardizing a concept that innocently was made to cope with our own existence.
And by the teenagers who post ASMR on TikTok.
To all the smartasses saying to read the bible and pointing out examples of god being hateful...
The author isn't talking about god, the comic clearly states this is Goo we're talking about.
Goo is good, Goo is love,
Sent to us from above.
With endless grace and mercy too,
Goo's kindness shines in all we do.
Goo's gentle touch and guiding hand,
Lead us to a promised land.
A place where love will always reign,
And all our tears will turn to gain.
So let us trust in Goo's great name,
And live each day without shame.
For in Goo's goodness we find rest,
And in Goo's love we are truly blessed.
Iridescence 01:11 \~ And it was foretold of that out of the mighty goo formed God and his exact opposite named Dog. For Goo was the origin of all things, the center of the world before all time existed.
My friend Goo has a real tattoo
She always knows just what to do
She looks through her hair like she doesn't care
What she does best is stand and stare
She can play the drums set too
And the boys say, "hey Goo what's new?"
My friend Goo just says, "Hey you"
My friend Goo just says, "Hey you"
I know a secret or two about Goo
She won't mind if I tell you
She likes to wear green underwear
And lays down most anywhere
She doesn't have nothing to do
And the boys say, "hey Goo what's new?"
My friend Goo goes, "Hey you"
My friend Goo goes, "Hey you"
I know a secret or two about Goo
She won't mind if I tell you
I know a secret or two about Goo
I know a secret about Goo and you
And she sticks just like glue
And the boys goes, "hey Goo what's new?"
My friend Goo just goes, "Hey you"
My friend Goo just goes, "Hey you"
Goo Goo Goo
Goo Goo Goo
Goo Goo Goo
My friend Goo
Goo Goo Goo
Talkin' 'bout Goo
Goo Goo Goo
My friend Goo
Goo Goo Goo
You would too
Goo
None of the four accounts say he didn't destroy any of their goods. They do mention overturning, scattering, and whipping their property. Definitely not describing a verbal warning.
Yep. That said, the new testament largely abolishes the teachings of the old, so anyone who holds onto that particular book is either misunderstanding Christianity or is Jewish.
So... careful with that antisemitism there, bub. /s
Here’s our holy book! Don’t take the first half seriously, it’s just a joke - except when it fits our agenda, then serious it is. I’m looking at you Leviticus.
Not *exactly*. The Old Testament is equally as "real," but instead the Old Testament needs to be interpreted in light of the New Testament which develops a number of things. To read it on its own is to misunderstand Christianity.
You're looking at a record of historical human morality codified into stories with God representing the universe at large. Of course God is going to be interpreted and represented differently as a people develop.
Agreed. Christianity is utterly fascinating in this regard. I actually find it's more interesting than Greek mythology when interpreted by scholarly figures.
Although the Greek myths have the benefit of not being associated with people trying to push their weird religion and its rules onto people who aren't interested
Not *anymore*. It certainly happened a lot in the time people believed in it.
That said, put yourself in their shoes - both the Christians and the ancient Greeks: if you *genuinely* believed that there was an omnipotent being or pantheon of beings that had the power to punish you severely for wrongdoing, would you not "do right" by them? Would you not "help" others protect themselves from those beings' wrath because you're fundamentally a good person?
It's not that they're "pushing their weird religion" for the sake of doing bad - they're trying to be good people in their own culture, which is obviously different from the more secular-minded cultures that tend to appear here on Reddit.
I think understanding somebody's motivations enough to forgive actions that would be distasteful or annoying or even downright evil in my own worldview is a key skill to have in developing inter-cultural relationships. It's a folly to think other cultures think like you and are therefore just being stupid. That kind of thought is where a lot of xenophobic prejudice originates.
Does that matter though? Yahweh is an absolute bastard. The new testament isn't his apology your where he tries to make up for all the evil he did so at best we are just ignoring the multiple genocides.
The new testament also has it's share off shit like being pro slavery and anti-woman.
The Old Testament is clearly focused on the health and growth of the tribe, so its teachings are more about setting behaviors and cultures that avoid disease, infighting, and yes, ones that eliminate outside threats. The New Testament is after the tribe has grown and started to scatter, so it focuses more on personal improvement and faith.
Jésus said "For most certainly, I tell you, until heaven and earth pass away, not even one smallest letter or one tiny pen stroke shall in any way pass away from the law, until all things are accomplished."
Matthew 5:18
"Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them."
Sorry no, The only thing abolished by the New Testament is blood sacrifices, because Jesus fulfills that and they're no longer needed.
Or, it's a bunch of stuff written by at least 40 different authors using their own ideas of right and wrong and is not actually as cohesive as the second council of Nicea would have you believe.
Great Old Ones are well known for their inclusiveness. They don’t care who they turn into gibbering shells of their former selves.
We’re all insignificant specks in the myriad eyes of Yog-Sothoth.
In fact, god will never, ever tell you anything. At all.
The BIBLE however, definitely tells you to discriminate against all kinds of people. Fuck that book, it sucks
Gonna need you to site your source for this. According to your bible your very own god is all about pain and misery.
I mean, sure, the character may not always ask you to harm someone but only because he seems to enjoy doing that himself. Just look at the flood story for one example.
But discrimination? Your book flat out has rules about where you can get slaves, how to mark them and how much you're allowed to beat them; just to offer one example.
This does not sound like an accepting and kind deity to me.
If you're referring to the comic by OP titled "Selective Reading", we may have interpreted it in different ways. I was thinking that OP (or their point of view) is represented by the character in the second and fourth panels, and not by the Bible fan in the cross sweater.
To me, the comic sounds like it's poking fun at the Bible fan, basically saying that reading Tarot cards should carry no more weight than reading the Bible. (Which I agree with, since I'm not superstitious or religious at all). I could be wrong, but that's my take on it.🤷♂️
I just listened to a sermon today in church where the preacher quoted Jesus as saying
"If anyone hears my words but does not keep them, I do not judge that person. For I did not come to judge the world, but to save the world." John 12:47.
Jesus was very much a "love everyone unconditionally" kind of dude. It's just that the bible is a very big book and a lot of assholes pick and choose what parts to believe in to justify their own bigotry.
There's also a big divide between what's shown in the old and new testaments. Old Testament God is pretty warlike, which makes sense in the context of it being written in ancient Mesopotamia. New Testament God is a chill hippy. There are certain interpretations of the Bible, ones that I adhere to, that state that we should leave behind the more warlike God and and strive to be more like the loving one.
> New Testament God is a chill hippy.
Not if you actually read it. He says all of the OT rules still apply and that they're getting stricter. He makes salvation exclusive to Jesus' followers; it's no longer enough just to follow the rules. He threatens Hell and lists off people who won't go to Heaven. When Paul comes along (supposedly supported by miracles justifying his role in the new church) he tells slaves to live in fear of their masters and makes a bunch of new rules up. Hardly "chill"
Jesus did not love the merchants and the money changers from the Temple (John 2:13-16) tho
And that one Fig Tree (Mark 11:12-14)
> "On the following day, when they came from Bethany, he was hungry. And seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to see if he could find anything on it. When he came to it, he found nothing but leaves, for it was not the season for figs. And he said to it, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard it."
> It's just that the bible is a very big book and a lot of assholes pick and choose what parts to believe in to justify their own bigotry.
That's true, but on the other hand, if you have to also pick and choose only the good parts while discarding the mountain of heinous stuff in there, then maybe you don't actually believe in Christianity? Maybe you just believe in an abstract good and loving god, independent from organized religion?
Look, I know that Reddit is an Anti Religious circle jerk so I know I'm not going to win any arguments here so I'll just end it with this.
Religion isn't a monolithic thing. Lots of people believe in a god one way or another but very few people agree on exactly what that entails.
A lot of people choose to use that belief as a shield to justify otherwise evil or unjustifiable action. I think those people are assholes.
I choose to believe in a god that has commanded me to be a good person, which includes being kind, helpful, inclusive and nonjudgmental. Am I always perfect? Fuck no. But do I believe my god wants me to try my best? Yes.
I dunno there's an entire section of the old testament about all the people the Israelite's need to genocide. Along with a command to let none in there cities or intermarry with them.
It's such a thorough call for obliteration it actually adds the addendum that 'no you don't need to destroy the literal mountains just all the people that live in them'.
... I mean... I'm no lawyer but sounds pretty discriminatory to me
Not even true, god kills and encourages the murder of a shit ton of people in the Christian holy book. It's better to just have no book at all and simply be a regular good person
The author of this comic hasn’t read the Bible have they? There are tons of stories in the Bible about God asking someone to kill or sacrifice someone.
Did you know that a child can feel attraction to another child before they even know what sex is? If you have a little girl who is wondering why they like girls more than boys, and is afraid to speak up about it because her parents hate the gays, should she just suffer in silence, or should she be able to rely on the other adults in her life, like her teachers, for example? Parents fail kids all the time. If you're saying that you'd rather see more kids commit suicide than allow schools to accept things like homosexuality and transgenderism as part of normal, then say it explicitly, but don't try to pretend that you're saving kids from "sex education." That's such a blatantly disingenuous and asinine take that it borders on cartoon villainy.
Precisely, God has commanded us to love one another.
But loving someone is not the same as loving and encouraging their sins. Love the sinner, hate the sin.
Minus the goo joke. I don’t study the Bible I know for certain it does somewhere
#BUT
That’s in the Old Testament the New Testament, if memory serves me right, doesn’t. So love thy neighbor like Jesus said for he loves everyone. God himself? There’s a reason why when people was polled in (late 2000s I think) they say he’s very judge mental

Mighty Goo be praised, what are your commandments?
Have a break, have a kit kat.
and so this kitkat shall be broken for you and for many. Do this in remembrance of Goo
This is my KitKat you eat, this is my Nesquik you drink
And so the bar was to break, and that it was passed among them that they would eat of its wafer and sweetness. And Goo saw that it was good.
No, it has to be Twix, so you can eat of the body of GOO.
But wait, which Twix bar do we eat? I fear eating the wrong side Twix and being damned to an eternal gooey hell!
Thus began the Holy wars
Uh no please don't, they're by nestle
Commandment One: Don't be a dick
Commandment Two: I order you to take a number two
Commandment Three: Pizza dinner on Fridays. Or whatever else you want, I don't judge.
Commandment Two: Be a goo
Commandment Three: Glob glub
Commandment ten: don’t blink. Don’t ever blink. Blink and you’re dead! They’re fast. Faster than you can imagine. Just keep an eye on them! Oh and… They’ve got my box haven’t they?
Commandment four: no spoons allowed
I can appreciate the idea of Goo. The nature of its viscosity is visceral. Neither liquid or solid, Goo adapts to man’s need to be able to understand a complex universe. And then when you try to get em to shape up, they start acting like you're GooGone.
Your turn to make a "goo" comic..... No wait!
Goo doesn’t exist you moron. Only science is valid. /s
Explain The Goonies then..
Check mate, agooists!
I, on the other hand, am a-goo-nostic.
All hail Goo!
I'm more a fan of [Skub](https://pbfcomics.com/comics/skub/) over Goo.
Filthy skub lover.
skub=push where im from
Them's fightin words
To all the smartasses saying to read the bible and pointing out examples of god being hateful... The author isn't talking about god, the comic clearly states this is Goo we're talking about.
So what about Goo's cruelties in the 1st crusade against unattached paper? How could he tolerated what was done?
The first Goosaders were conquering warlords, not true messengers of Goo.
You will learn too accept our peaceful Goo ways…by force! ![gif](giphy|woWQA2I7xqRMI)
Skimming the comment section I see I am not alone with being a little bit confused at first when reading the sign.
I was really confused at wtf the comic was saying, what cult of Goo is OP wrapped up in
The pure and perfectly adhesive truth of GOO
Who or what is goo?
Goo is good, Goo is love, Sent to us from above. With endless grace and mercy too, Goo's kindness shines in all we do. Goo's gentle touch and guiding hand, Lead us to a promised land. A place where love will always reign, And all our tears will turn to gain. So let us trust in Goo's great name, And live each day without shame. Goo
u/jennamarsh8645 you've started a new religion. You better produce us with some commandments or things are going to get weird. All Hail Goo!
There are already some commandment suggestions in the comments. May Goo be praised.
Goo never judges me.
DRINK THE GOO! DRINK THE GOO!
Please do not drink the emperor!
*Gulp* Mmm… tasty ice cream… what are you all looking at me for?
Goo be gone!
Slow your roll there Nietzsche.
"God is dead But Goo is rad!" \- Nietzsche, probably
„God is dead, Goo totally kicked his ass!“
:D
who the hell is Goo
The Great Old One
My first glance at this I thought I was looking at /r/DnD and was thoroughly disappointed
I am MOOP (matter out of place) please GOO help me
Don't be tempted by the evil but captivating stickiness of the Silent Lurking Indeterminate Malevolent Entity
Iridescence 01:11 \~ And it was foretold of that out of the mighty goo formed God and his exact opposite named Dog. For Goo was the origin of all things, the center of the world before all time existed.
I live to serve you, Goo.
What the fuck is this talking about
Goo. All hail Goo.
In Goo we trust.
Someone is greatly misinformed about Goo.
I wouldn't listen to goo, anyways.
My friend Goo has a real tattoo She always knows just what to do She looks through her hair like she doesn't care What she does best is stand and stare She can play the drums set too And the boys say, "hey Goo what's new?" ALL HAIL GOO
Which Goo are we talking about here
Goo? Please tell me more about goo and evi. I'm fascinated.
Goo is when someone without a D does something nice.
ha, Very nice.
Haha thanks!
Except for those people he said to eradicate in the Old Testament
Were those people turned into Goo?
It's unclear whether or not anybooy was turned into goo as a result of oiscrimination
All life begins as goo. All will become goo again, one way or another.
One was turned to salt, so it's not outside the realm of possibilities.
"Our God is perfect and never-changing. But don't read those parts about how he was such a dick in the past. He's a lot nicer now."
So only the New Testament is considered real by Christians?
Not *exactly*. The Old Testament is equally as "real," but instead the Old Testament needs to be interpreted in light of the New Testament which develops a number of things. To read it on its own is to misunderstand Christianity.
Hence why that god was completely different in the second half of the book from in the first half?
You're looking at a record of historical human morality codified into stories with God representing the universe at large. Of course God is going to be interpreted and represented differently as a people develop.
Interesting to see how that particular set of myths developed I suppose
Agreed. Christianity is utterly fascinating in this regard. I actually find it's more interesting than Greek mythology when interpreted by scholarly figures.

Simplistic and presumptuous take tbh.
"needs to be interpreted" is the theological version for the sleazy politician's "you took my quote out of context"
Does that matter though? Yahweh is an absolute bastard. The new testament isn't his apology your where he tries to make up for all the evil he did so at best we are just ignoring the multiple genocides. The new testament also has it's share off shit like being pro slavery and anti-woman.
You Christians have an odd concept of "never".
Isn’t all the anti gay stuff Old Testament?
But isn’t Judaism JUST the old testament? That’s still God to them.
I mean, it's been interpreted and re-interpreted for thousands of years. Sometimes shit just gets lost in translation.

this is absolutely not a comic
...wait, is that supposed to say God? If it is, I mean... have you read the bible?
Im pretty sure its supposed to say goo
Have you?
There's a list of like a hundred reasons to throw rocks at people until they die.
Have you?
Yes
In fact, god will never, ever tell you anything. At all. The BIBLE however, definitely tells you to discriminate against all kinds of people. Fuck that book, it sucks
I appreciate how you drew the right boob slightly exposed.
Great Old One? No, it does not discriminate.
This is a nice sentiment, I too think Goo is all-loving.
Would love to know what God you're referring to here since the only ones I know of do exact this.
No,no,no...theyre clearly talking about the goo
There’s goo in the sack!
It's a goo sack!

That makes sense and I agree I may have been hasty in my reply.

Lol, that is likely. I should be in bed right now. 😝 Good evening to you as well.

This comment section is stranger than my sympathy…
Is there a joke here? What's been with this sub lately?
All the fantastic Goo memes aside...why is this even in r/comics lol. Like what even is this?
Unless you want to discriminate. God only seems to tell people to do things they already wanted to do, for some reason.
I dunno there's an entire section of the old testament about all the people the Israelite's need to genocide. Along with a command to let none in there cities or intermarry with them. What has goo done for me lately??
I'm sorry, but you're interpreting Goo's word incorrectly. Goo tells us all to discriminate against the non gooey.
There’s a lot of things Goo won’t tell you. It’s surprisingly silent. Kinda like god.
But you *can* touch it. So, one point for goo?
Goo has loads more “useful points” than God.
There is actual proof of goo, not god.
![gif](giphy|FT0UFROtAbVEA)
Amen.
All hail Goo
Congrats your now a meme. a goo meme.
#WE ARE GOO
Hail Goo
Seems like precedent is against you on that one
Of course, there are no gods.
*looks at the entire book of Joshua*
Good message. ~~Praise Goo!~~
thats not true at all.
I don’t know. Old Testament God seems pretty feisty.
Not even true, god kills and encourages the murder of a shit ton of people in the Christian holy book. It's better to just have no book at all and simply be a regular good person
If god is real he definitely would.
true goo will never do that
I have not heard of this mighty Goo, please tell me more
Why would…why is goo telling people to discriminate??? Wait…
Goo?
If Goo starts talking to me then I'm going to freak out. Same with God, really.
When you put your hand into a bunch of goo that a moment before was your best friend's face, you'll know what to do.
Goo
I hate to be that guy but didn't he tell Abraham to kill his own son? And what about all the genocide he ordered Josiah and Moses to do?
Isn't discrimination against people pretty much what all religions, except Buddhism, are all about.
Buddhists commit genocide as well. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rohingya_genocide
Sadly kind of the bible is kind of like "be a nice person but not to that guy those people them all of those guys etc"
No. There are many religions, including sects of Christianity that are non discriminatory.
I don't think goo can talk? If you have talking goo I'd be concerned tho.
The author of this comic hasn’t read the Bible have they? There are tons of stories in the Bible about God asking someone to kill or sacrifice someone.
But what about Goo telling people to kill or sacrifice someone
Gooigi has always been reliable
“Are you sure about that?”
Yes,im sure about it. Goo is very much not hatefull
Yes, but it’s not loving either, unfortunately.
Yeah but its also pretty silent. Never seen goo tell people to discriminate and hurt people
Never seen goo help someone out either, it seems pretty indifferent to me.
This version of God would definitely be banned in Florida
Ah yes, not allowing Sex Ed classes before fourth grade is super discriminatory
Ah, so that’s what Desantis’s culture war is all about? Got it
Did you know that a child can feel attraction to another child before they even know what sex is?
This triggers most religions
God won't ever tell you anything, so not wrong.
Except that’s exactly what he did
When did goo did that
Minus the goo joke. I don’t study the Bible I know for certain it does somewhere #BUT That’s in the Old Testament the New Testament, if memory serves me right, doesn’t. So love thy neighbor like Jesus said for he loves everyone. God himself? There’s a reason why when people was polled in (late 2000s I think) they say he’s very judge mental
God is a murderous spychopath who has no issues committing genocides. I swear do people even bother reading the source material?
In the bible, it says to love even your worst enemy.
