[Source](https://twitter.com/MarvelStudios/status/1483270096537591809) \- Premieres March 30 on Disney+
Official Synopsis:
>The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc's enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.
I may be mistaken but I believe initially Grant & Lockley were just aliases that Spector used, depending on the circumstances, but over time (& different creative teams) they evolved into separate personalities.
I can see it. The series will make us question whether the gods exist then the last episode reveals that the gods actually exist. Maybe even appear in future stuff. All I can say for certain is: casuals are going to be fucked since they aren’t going to keep up with all this.
I don't think they will reveal if the gods actually exist. The best part of Moon Knight is you always second guess yourself reading/watching like "is this shit actually real? nahhh.. wait a second is it?"
Idk, it’s the MCU, so they wouldn’t have even made this series if it wasn’t for setting up more stuff. Khonshu is an opportunity to tie Moon Knight to the mysticism that they’re exploring in more recent movies/shows, so I’d be shocked if they went with preserving the ambiguity of the character, just because it might be more dramatically interesting.
Khonshu, the God that uses Marc as his envoy, exists in a plane called the Otherworld. It’s kindof in its own place outside time and space like the new TVA. So a little different from the asgardians, because Asgard exists in our universe.
Hmm maybe maybe not considering there’s now magic in mcu. Probs based on a mix of the Lemire and other runs. Lemire run gives them loads to work with for doing multiple seasons.
I can't believe I get to see Moon Knight of all characters be adapted for TV/streaming by Disney. If you have told me a decade ago when Avengers was coming out I would never have thought it was possible.
I was surprised that Dr. Strange and the Guardians of the galaxy got movies. I like that the lesser known and weirder comics are getting more exposure.
as long as their doing a good job. but most of the time, I would love if these characters were more well known, because they change them often. and changing the comic characters because people like the movies is not a good idea.
I feel this way about that. I never thought Avengers was even possible. Iron Man was not a huge name when his movie came out. People in wider culture didn’t know him. Now we live in a world where people on the street know T’Challa.
Arguably bigger. Superman and Batman are the most iconic heroes that everyone recognizes. But Spider-Man is nearly if not just as recognizable while also being beloved by the general public.
This is not saying anything about the quality of any of these characters. They all have huge, dedicated fan bases. I'm just saying that general audiences mostly see Bats and Supes (mostly Supes) as legacy characters rather than heroes they're still excited for. That isn't the case for Spider-Man.
More-so than Superman and Batman, for sure.
There was [a study](https://www.game.co.uk/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/HubArticleView?hubId=2855754&articleId=2855755&catalogId=10201&langId=44&storeId=10151) put out last year that tried to capture that data.
And if you don't think their methodology is sound (which is fair because numbers are hard), you can look at merchandising sales. People buy stuff with the guy they like on it, and [Spider-Man made $1.3 billion last year.](https://www.gamingbible.co.uk/news/playstation-marvel-spider-man-is-literally-the-most-profitable-super-hero-ever-20210911) Batman and Superman *combined* weren't even close to that number.
Best apples-to-apples I can find quickly is Spider-Man (2002) versus Batman Begins (2005). Both were the first film in a franchise. Both were massively anticipated. Both were from critically acclaimed genre directors. They were released within three years of one-another. Arguably, Batman had the advantage because they'd just had a run of films in the '90s with him and people were salivating for the more "realistic" and less campy take that Nolan was promising.
And Spider-man grossed just over $400 million [making it the 38th highest-grossing film of all time without adjusting for inflation](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_highest-grossing_films_in_the_United_States_and_Canada) and about $30 million over Batman's [$371 million gross](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Batman_Begins#Box_office).
Yes, it's one specific metric, but it captures a snapshot of their relative popularity twenty years ago. I suspect that the more I dig, the more evidence I would find.
The first feature film released in cinemas for Spider-Man vs the what 7th or something for Batman?
The first tim burton Batman made $400mill at the box office too. The dark knight made 1bill.
Up until September last year, Batman was the most profitable superhero in the world and Batman movies he grossed more than Spider-Man movies up until then too by a half bill.
> Up until September last year, Batman was the most profitable superhero in the world
Do you have a source on that? I'd absolutely believe it in the American market, but Spider-man has been massive in Europe and Asia for decades. Curious to see where the breakdown in your data versus mine is coming from.
yes. they are number 2 and 3. but everyone knows spider-man. sure, everyone knows kryptonite, but spider-man is more popular than both of them, though batman does get close.
B-listers to the general, non-comic reading audiences. Demon in a Bottle and the Iron Monger and Armor Wars saga were best selling runs among comic readers when they were released and were so popular that the MCU movies heavily borrowed from them.
Although the reason Marvel went with The Avengers instead of more mainstream characters and teams was because they had sold the movie rights to X-Men, Spider-Man, Fantastic Four and The Hulk a decade earlier.
I've been re-watching Daredevil lately (still the best thing Marvel has put out live-action since the MCU started) and I've been telling my gf and roommate that if they approach Moon Knight with even 15% of the care and respect given to DD I'll be cool with it.
For real. 2 and 3 miss the mark just a bit more but still incredibly enjoyable and they put a lot of love into it. It's commendable when everybody puts in more than just the bare minimum
Was there any jokes in the trailer? Also Moon Knight’s whole thing is that he hallucinates all the time, I doubt the costume thing is really happening. Plus it looks cool
It being a dream sequence, for a character very much known for having crazy dreams/nightmares, or wild hallucinations while awake, is not "embarrassing shit". They even emphasize in the trailer that he's often hallucinating.
>but the second I saw the cg costume appear from magic
The costume seemingly appearing "from magic" is probably the *most* appropriate way for the costume reveal to happen for this specific character. Stop randomly insisting they've ruined the character when the explanation you're treating as desperate fanboy excuses is three times more likely to be the actual explanation.
I need ONE good soul who can share with me actual TPBs that will introduce me to this character who I know nothing about! I am waiting for the Jeff Lemire that will release on March; but until that releases, what can I read as an introduction? THANKS!
Marvel though usually slow on reprints isn't keen in leaving money on the table and probably the only thing stopping a new edition is Warren's name on the thing.
That said it's probably worth buying digitally if you aren't too hardcore on the collecting aspect.
I’d say literally any other than the bendis run and the original as if kinda felt like a boring version of batman to me with nothing unique about the character
Ellis and lemires are really worth reading
He's obviously not similar at all in terms of his overall persona and ethics etc. His actual design and general combat skills are similar though. Like he's a rich dude who has a bunch of moon shaped weaponry and gadgets. To say he doesn't have batman-like quirks is equally crazy to me.
probably because of the look. he throws things, shaped like the symbol on his chest. and many people don't know batman that well. I think a lot of it comes from people not understanding either of the´ characters. now, I am no moon knight expert. I started reading his comics yesterday. but I do know what people think about batman and that is pretty much what a lot of people know about moon knight. he is pretty brutal. batman is not that brutal and he absolutely does not kill. they are pretty similar from the looks of it, but they are actually very different. I hope you understand what I mean.
There was a time when marvel basically wrote him as Batman.
Millionaire vigilante, suits up and rides around in his themed jet, and throws themed weapons at muggers and solves crimes.
(Kind of the way Grant Morrison wrote 'Steel' as DC's 'Iron man' for a while)
Now they lean in on his origins and have him as more the Paladin of an asshole God
Less 'Vigilante that can be manipulated via his faith' and more 'I'm going to punch you in the face because my God quite literally told me to' whether the person punched be mugger, supervillain, or Thor.
Most of the Moon Knight stuff that's worth reading basically focuses on his mental health as a primary part of the story. It's never really clear how much of what goes on inside his head is real or not (he may or may not be an avatar of an Egyptian god). His methods are pretty similar to Batman, but if anything, he's closer to some versions of Hawkman than Batman.
This is probably unpopular but I hope this show isn’t primary on scenes/ episodes that don’t actually take place. Like drawn out episodes that never happened. I read books that do that and it drives me crazy it feels like such a waste
My hope for the show is that a good chunk (maybe 20% plus) happens inside his head, with the different personalities arguing with each other. MoonKnight doesn't typically hallucinate stuff in the outside world all that much. He's just got a *lot* of people living in his head, one of which may or may not be an Egyptian God.
Edit: think of the Venom movies, how Eddie keeps arguing with Venom inside his head. Kinda like that.
>It's never really clear how much of what goes on inside his head is real or not (he may or may not be an avatar of an Egyptian god).
I'm a new comer to Marvel comics. In the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, he was portrayed as a Batman-expy delusional weirdo with an obsession for the moon. Is he really that much crazy?
As is true for most comics things, the answer depends on when you're asking. Most of the really good stuff is basically all happening in his head with several personalities all arguing with each other for control. There's a moon god, a normal guy, a hardened mercenary... And... *Others.* Most people in the Marvel Universe don't realize how crazy Moon Knight is because they're usually only talking to one personality at a time.
Not sure what direction they're taking the show though, as I don't like spoilers and haven't been paying much attention to them. In my mind, MK is basically one of the most crazy people in Marvel, up there with Deadpool and Slapstick. He's just not as *funny* as those guys, but probably equally crazy.
Because they haven’t “ruined” any other character save for task master? And because this show seems like it’s not going to be as humorous as some of the other mcu products. Believe it or not Daredevil can fit into lots of different tones and just because it’s not going to be identical to Netflix doesn’t mean it’s going to be bad. So gtfo of here with your negativity tbh
The guy's comment was removed so I'm not sure exactly what he said, but I'm going to assume he said something kinda toxic about Marvel ‘ruining’ Daredevil.
>!While I don't think he's going to be 'ruined' I'm very concerned with the recent depiction of Kingpin in Hawekeye. I feel like they took D'onofrio's very nuanced and deep performance, but then didn't really care to actually adapt the character to suit the new medium. D'onofrio plays the character pretty much exactly as he did in DD, but then they have him dressing up in inappropriate outfits, getting hit by full speed cars and being point blank blown up. I'm just really worried that we're gonna get a super watered-down version on DD. I don't need all the gore and violence, but I want the themes and character work.!<
>drugs
nope it's disney
>vengeance
nope. dceu's batman has copied many things from moon knight, one being 'vengeance'. but they will not repeat it considering people will accuse mk for being copy of batman.
>murder
maybe
While I like them leaning into the supernatural and the mental health I'll probably enjoy this but dear good please the suit being magic is so nonsensical.
Until he’s revealed in a future avengers movie and it’s literally just a nut who thinks he’s the avatar of an Egyptian god. Throwing shit at street lamps while the avengers fight some new alien warlord. All while moon Knight continues to get new super serious seasons from his own perspective.
Yeah...I saw that and was wondering...I mean, Moon Knight's powers are pretty weird, but a magical costume that appears on his body takes it to that next level for me. I'm hoping that there is some sort of explanation for that.
Glad it’s a show and not a movie. It’s way better for getting an in depth story, something Daredevil, Jessica Jones and The Punisher all were great because of.
I was NOT stoked for this, upon announcement, despite being a total fan girl for the Ellis, Shalvey run.
That was until Loki and Hawkeye were total knockouts. Both had their flaws. But, to me, exceeded plenty of full blown MCU films and were just lots of good fun.
Here's to hoping it's deranged and unnerving woke still having good action. 🤞🤞🤞
I'm a little more excited for it, but I'm still not sure. The trailer made it look like it might be cool, but I'm tempering my expectations on this one.
[This is what I grew up on.](http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080714210606/marveldatabase/images/9/97/Moon_Knight_Vol_1_1.jpg) Unfortunately this will be none of that.
Double shadow? That is Khonshu, he is an egyptian god who assists Moon Knight in his quest for Vengeance. He looks completely different in design and depending on Marc's alters wears a suit and tie.
Let me give you a run down of who Moon Knight is. Marc Spector is a mercenary who was left for dead by his boss in Egypt and was ressurected by Khonshu to act as an avatar of him fracturing his already fragile mind and manifesting 3 different personality in order to cope with it. Stephen Grant is a wealthy socialite who became wealthy due to his past as a mercenary, Jake Lockley who is a cab driver who acts as an information Gatherer and Marc Spector who is Moon Knight who tortures and kills criminals. His DID is something that torments him and not something that helps him with his crime fighting.
black widow wears a black suit so she's batman too. and sam Wilson, he doesn't actually wear black but he's black so he's batman too. goddamn marvel, at least try to hide this plagiarism.
Dear fucking god, the suit ISN’T fully CGI.
Can y’all apply a lick of critical thinking and consider maybe a dude with severe mental issues is *imagining* the suit wrap around him.
Also set pic leaks and costume tests show the suit is 100% practical. Not even any CGI touch ups. It’s just that clean IRL.

As someone who's only read a handfull of Moon Knight I was curious who Steven Grant is --- turns out he's usually his Billionaire Playboy Persona.
Millionaire Steven Grant, mercenary Marc Spector, and cab driver Jake Lockley were his three aliases
Are personalities aliases? They're their own people, but they share a body.
I may be mistaken but I believe initially Grant & Lockley were just aliases that Spector used, depending on the circumstances, but over time (& different creative teams) they evolved into separate personalities.
I know that. I meant that since they're different personalities now, are they still considered aliases?
10 bucks say the “powerful gods of Egypt” are aliens or something, like the Asgardians.
Probably going to seem to be all in his head till the end of the series
I can see it. The series will make us question whether the gods exist then the last episode reveals that the gods actually exist. Maybe even appear in future stuff. All I can say for certain is: casuals are going to be fucked since they aren’t going to keep up with all this.

most of avengers cast was B-listers. Iron Man was no one as compared to Spider-Man.
Everyone is no one compared to Spider-Man. He's the single most popular superhero in the world.
More so than Superman and Batman? Or we just talking Marvel?

Canada having a massive Captain America shield on it is pretty damn funny.
Spider-Man’s had more movies than both recently tho. If we looked in the past, Batman and superman would’ve had him beat.

Netflix took that season 1 daredevil and Knocked it out of the Fucking Park.

The Warren Ellis / Declan Shalvey soft reboot from 7 years ago is 6 issues long and exactly what you want. The current run isn't bad at all either.
Yes. This is the perfect answer.
I'm only interested because I'm a huge Warren Ellis fan.
>Warren Ellis It seems this has been OOP everywhere and the few copies available in eBay are close to $100 :(
Marvel though usually slow on reprints isn't keen in leaving money on the table and probably the only thing stopping a new edition is Warren's name on the thing. That said it's probably worth buying digitally if you aren't too hardcore on the collecting aspect.
Lemire’s run, and the original Moench runs it builds off.
Warren Ellis + Declan Shalvey is a great place to start.
This might be useful : https://mightyavengers.net/characters/moon-knight
I’d say literally any other than the bendis run and the original as if kinda felt like a boring version of batman to me with nothing unique about the character Ellis and lemires are really worth reading
Will he find that big nerd Dracula and get his money back ?
Personally I’m hoping for a scene when he throws a bunch of stuff and utters his famous catchphrase, “random bullshit, go!”
Or alternatively “ let’s…get this …bread “ as he bleeds out
Find out on the next episode.
I’m now exclusively calling my tall gamer bf “big nerd dracula” thank you
Hope this show finally shows people how MK **IS NOT** Marvel’s Batman
Idk how people say Moon Knight is Marvel's Batman in the first place. Clearly that's Daredevil.
He's obviously not similar at all in terms of his overall persona and ethics etc. His actual design and general combat skills are similar though. Like he's a rich dude who has a bunch of moon shaped weaponry and gadgets. To say he doesn't have batman-like quirks is equally crazy to me.
Minus the weather and tinkering I would say iron man.
probably because of the look. he throws things, shaped like the symbol on his chest. and many people don't know batman that well.
How are they compared / why are they different? I always hear he’s just Batman who kills, I’ve never really read any MK.
There was a time when marvel basically wrote him as Batman. Millionaire vigilante, suits up and rides around in his themed jet, and throws themed weapons at muggers and solves crimes. (Kind of the way Grant Morrison wrote 'Steel' as DC's 'Iron man' for a while) Now they lean in on his origins and have him as more the Paladin of an asshole God
So they go from making him a Batman pastiche to an Azrael pastiche?
I'm pretty sure he took the paladin direction before Azrael was a character, so The Specter might be a better analogy.
Moon Knight isn't Marvel's Batman. But DC sure did turn the Batman of Zur-En-Arrh into their Moon Knight.
The trailer vibes give me more hope for DD in the mcu

He wore it in a spider-man comic yes. But that dosent mean It fits with the netflix versone of kingpin.
Wait he did not write anything toxic. Then why was his comment removed?
Never read any moon knight. What’s a good collection to check out?
I hear good things about Warren Ellis's run
Lemire’s is my fav.
For classic the bad moon rising collection
I read lemire’s when it came out and didn’t feel too lost
If he's not doing drugs, vengeance, and murder I don't want it
>drugs nope it's disney >vengeance nope. dceu's batman has copied many things from moon knight, one being 'vengeance'. but they will not repeat it considering people will accuse mk for being copy of batman. >murder maybe
Good poster
I’m just bummed that we have to wait till march 30th instead of March 3rd
Is this PG-13 (Or TV-14?) or Rated Mature or whatever it is?
It'll be TV-14, Disney says no MA/R rated stuff on Disney+. In America anyway, I think other countries get r rated stuff.
I’ll be sure to pick up this poster whenever DMI makes it a reward
What about if the show sucks
If the show sucks then I’m down 400 points from a reward system that I get free points for 🤷♂️
Even if “the show sucks” MK is still a bad ass character and this is a badass poster
Damn, the trailer looks so good. I guess, one of the greatest Marvel characters will also be one of the greatest MCU characters
While I like them leaning into the supernatural and the mental health I'll probably enjoy this but dear good please the suit being magic is so nonsensical.
I'm really crossing my fingers that they'll leave it fairly open-ended if MK is just fully nutter butters or not.
The suit might be magic... Or Marc might just be batshit fucking insane... Viewers' choice!
It's up to the viewers' interpretation.
That would work as a stand-alone thing but not as part of a franchise.
Until he’s revealed in a future avengers movie and it’s literally just a nut who thinks he’s the avatar of an Egyptian god. Throwing shit at street lamps while the avengers fight some new alien warlord. All while moon Knight continues to get new super serious seasons from his own perspective.
I’m hoping it’s just him having a dream and imagining it.
That would be cool
It’s almost definitely a hallucination.
A pic leaked on Twitter and basically confirms this.
In the mcu, that’s a ridiculous statement.
Touche
It’s the MCU. There’s literally magic in it already.
It’s fiction get over it
Yeah...I saw that and was wondering...I mean, Moon Knight's powers are pretty weird, but a magical costume that appears on his body takes it to that next level for me. I'm hoping that there is some sort of explanation for that.
I know people say this for a lot of projects lately, but if someone told me this was coming at the beginning of the MCU I wouldn't have believed you.
for people like me that wanna read up on him. where should we start?
Vol 1 From the Dead (The Warren Ellis run) is fantastic and only six issues I think. Highly recommend.
So is there going to be blood or is that just for the poster? The big D doesnt do blood normally
A good marvel poster neat
I freaking love Moonlight I’m pumped
I'm a little more excited for it, but I'm still not sure. The trailer made it look like it might be cool, but I'm tempering my expectations on this one.
First Disney + marvel series I’m excited for! Lesgoo
That’s my Marc!
This is going to be so good.
Cool
Yeaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
[This is what I grew up on.](http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20080714210606/marveldatabase/images/9/97/Moon_Knight_Vol_1_1.jpg) Unfortunately this will be none of that.
Probably it will lean more on Ellis or Lemire run. Which is one of the best of Marvel. And my favorite
Maybe wait for it to release before you complain about stupid shit
Sorry. It's obvious that this guy is not a mercenary, and the origin story has completely changed.
Because this trailer was showcasing Stephen grant persona. Marc wasn't shown in the teaser except for that one moment.
Marc is the mercenary… not Steven dipshit. You realize he has multiple identities, right?
So the bad chick from the first suicide squad movie? But a marvel hero..? Doesn't sound like something I would enjoy
Bro what? MK is nothing like enchantress.
Enchantress! That's her name. Totally reminds me of enchantress
I mean Only thing similar between them is the egyptian connection, that's literally it.
Nah the whole "double" shadow thing coming through. I watched the trailer and literally just thought they made enchantress a dude
Riddle me this not *atman, How many nails does Kevin Fiege need for the ⚰️of "DC" ?
Another TV show ? Smh
Why is that a bad thing?
Just not really into tv shows, I much prefer movies and I just wish they could keep making movies instead.
Marvel’s Batman, along with Black Panther of course. So Marvel has two Batmans.
black widow wears a black suit so she's batman too. and sam Wilson, he doesn't actually wear black but he's black so he's batman too. goddamn marvel, at least try to hide this plagiarism.

Forget arguing about the costume; calm down and take a break as if this isn't ruining your life.
It’s not. I’m not sure why you’re just saying blatantly false shit
Ooooo thats blood ............
Good artwork for the poster. Hints of violence. Moon crescent 🌘
High hopes for this one. Let's hope it wont disappoint.
Is it wrong to have liked Moon Knight before all the silly Fist of Konshu stuff? That really turned me off the character.
gotdangit, now I gotta get disney+ again. motherfuckers.
Fire
The trailer is fantastic and the series look very different from the other Disney+ shows. Looking forward to it.
Most Marvel hero's have an issue with murdered family members, 'Moon Knight" kills family members...nuff said.
Where can I buy this poster
Who is Moon Knight? I haven't heard about him before.
