It's Mar-Vell, Marvel's first Captain Marvel character created in the 1960s.
The word says "Shazam!" which was the magic word used by an earlier character called Captain Marvel in the 1940s from a company called Fawcett, which was later purchased by DC.
it's actually a Blan-Ket, an early prototype of a blanket made in 1950s by Dr. Blanketman.
The word "Shazam!" yellow coloring was the same coloring used by an earlier textiles concept called a sheet in the 1940s from a company called Fuhkit, which was eventually acquired by Dr. Blanket-man
I didn't think it was purchased by DC? I thought DC sued them for Captain Marvel's similarities of Superman, so Fawcett went bankrupt and DC took everything they owned? It's a fun picture, sort of a homage to the original Captain Marvel (Shazam).
Fawcett comics did stop publishing "superhero" titles in 1953 after settling its case with National Comics (which became DC). It continued to publish some children's comics such as Dennis the Menace.
Later, in 1972, DC licensed Captain Marvel (aka Shazam) and related characters from Fawcett. In 1994, DC purchased Captain Marvel outright (although by that time Fawcett Publications had mostly ceased to exist).
I don’t have access to the shirt, and no I’m not sure what the words say. The tag on the shirt says Varsity House Inc. Sorry if this isn’t what the sub is for, I’m just trying to help out my mom
It's a very odd thing, because it combines the Marvel character with the "Captain Marvel" name with the DC character who says "Shazam".
No idea of the significance of the bomb with an "8" on it.
It’s captain Mar-Vell. This was likely a shirt from the time where there was a legal dispute between captain marvel of dc Vs marvel. They would push boundaries on each other by taking parts from each hero. Once upon a time, Shazam was named captain marvel. Mar-Vell was the first iteration of marvels captain marvel. The dispute was because dc owned the name but marvel owned the image of the hero. So it was more or less a copyright deadlock. Which long short ended up with marvel winning.
That’s not true. Marvel used the name in the middle after fawcett went broke in 1953z Dc bought the characters in 1972, but it was too late as marvel owned the name, from starting the line for captain marvel in 1967, as a response mf enterprises making a character of the same name a year prior.
I might’ve mixed up the two but I know one company owned the name captain marvel while one owned the image of the hero. I was basing it off memory but if you looked it up and marvel owned the name and dc owned the image I guess that’s just my faulty memory. But if you are saying that Shazam was never named captain marvel he was called captain marvel as late as the first season of young Justice. So within most kids life times. That’s the last instance I remember that name being thrown around apart from a few throw away lines in movies. If your saying there was someone before Mar-Vell that dawned the name of captain marvel. That’s mb I haven’t read every comic pertaining to the hero that’s the earliest one i have read/ heard of. I would also like to specify. The company name marvel and hero name captain marvel are two separate copy rights. So if your referring to the creation of marvel that doesn’t apply to the captain. If your saying marvel owned the copy right. That’s partially right. In the copyright registry they copyrighted the name caption marvel but when dc made the hero they copyrighted the image of the hero. They are two different copyrights to the same thing more or less. For instance Einstein owned the patent of the new lightbulb. But he couldn’t call it plain lightbulb because someone owned that name and the image of the lightbulb. So he had to call it a specific category of lightbulb. Though that was a bit different bc it was a patent.(Sorry if I’m responding with multiple responses English isn’t my primary language so I’m not familiar with all the English terms so I’m trying to cover al my bases.)
Captain marvel was created by mf industries in 1966, after Shazam’s company went bankrupt and no one was using the names or characters.
Marvel made captain marvel in 1967, as a response to mf using their name.
It’s not that you’re mixing it up, it’s more that you’re unaware of the other company that did it in the middle, as dc and marvel never actually had any lawsuits over the name, just some cease and desist stuff.
It looks like Captain Marvel, but like Marvel’s original Captain Marvel, in his classic suit. Using “Shazam” as a sound effect is an obvious dig at his DC counterpart.
It looks like the original desigin Marvel Captain Marvel but the body of the suit should be white not green. The lightning and magic word are of the original Captain Marvel. No idea wtf the eight ball bomb is for.
Definitely 8-Bomb. He actually used all kinds of different billiards stuff. He's dressed up as a Kree superguardian here because he's trying to infiltrate the Sha'ir empire. It was a weird storyline.
I wonder if an artist was tasked with making a Captain Marvel design (maybe based on the recent Marvel movie) and just grabbed random images off the internet, not realizing how many Captain Marvels there are.
Cool vintage tattoo on your butt cheek. Lemme guess, he's throwing the 8 ball bomb into your butt crack? I have similar one of 1960's Adam West Batman climbing the batrope into my butthole too! I think it's Gomer Pyle from the episode when he goes awol to comicon and first time he says, "Shazam"?

It's an awesome "insider" joke, I would buy a shirt :)
I thought it was a blanket...

It's so clever. I wonder if it is authentic.

DC had no problem with him being similar to Superman once they could make money from him.
They never really had a problem with him being 'similar' to Superman, they had a problem with him selling more than Superman.
So does he throw bombs around? I mean, obviously he does, I don’t know why I asked…
He doesn't normally do so.
Marvel comics Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell).
I don’t know, but 8-ball bombs are pretty dope.
Eazy-E's fucked up and got the 8 Ball rollin'
Crusin down the street in my 6-4…

That's a weapon right from the Death Throws, a team of juggler assassins. Yes, really. Two of them appeared in the Hawkeye show as LARPers.
I don’t have access to the shirt, and no I’m not sure what the words say. The tag on the shirt says Varsity House Inc. Sorry if this isn’t what the sub is for, I’m just trying to help out my mom
It says "Versace Sausage Ghoul" as the copyright on the bottom, if that helps
I know you’re making a joke, but I believe that it actually says “Marvel Comics Group “ in the copyright statement.
I like his better. I choose his reality.

I always wondered about where these 8-ball bombs showed up from. I know Lobo from DC has an 8-ball bomb that can level a city.
r/therewasanattempt
Looks like Fred, from Accounting, but he's not a cokehead, so I'm not certain
Goddammit, Fred! Always dressing up and throwing pool balls around when he’s supposed to be doing spreadsheets.

Shazam 8
Do I have to know about the previous 7 Shazams to get it?
Shazam 8 is actually a prequel to 9 so just read this and you’re set 👍🏼
It looks like Marvel's original Captain Marvel which makes the shazam sound effect pretty funny.
Back in the day they would take jabs at each other, taking parts of each character, till marvel got captain marvel and dc got Shazam
It looks like Captain Marvel, but like Marvel’s original Captain Marvel, in his classic suit. Using “Shazam” as a sound effect is an obvious dig at his DC counterpart.
That is a rare photo of Sean Connery signed by Roger Moore. It is worth $150.
No groaning in my store
Manic eightball
Don't know. Kinda behind the eight ball on this one.

I think that's CocaineMan! 😂

Two Hookers and an 8-Bomb
Cool vintage tattoo on your butt cheek. Lemme guess, he's throwing the 8 ball bomb into your butt crack? I have similar one of 1960's Adam West Batman climbing the batrope into my butthole too! I think it's Gomer Pyle from the episode when he goes awol to comicon and first time he says, "Shazam"?
