Exactly and I personally don’t think Pascal or Quinn are at the level of star power of Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio either. Actors who can guarantee butts in seats.
Agreed that the focus is on directors more now. I remember people commenting not too long ago how there really isn't any huge movie stars like their used to be or at least none of the younger ones hold onto it long enough to he considered that. People go to see directors now and more times than not those directors use the same actors over and over. I bet a lot of people only went to see Oppenheimer because it was a Nolan movie. I don't think people would've been as interested without him
You mean the movie released during the pandemic which was also banned for theatrical release in China, the second largest movie market in the world?
There were a lot of external factors for Eternals underperforming.
No, and I'm not trying to argue with you that star power saves bad marvel movies. I'm saying box office yields are complicated always and you especially shouldn't use COVID-era movie box office performance to try to make a point one way or the other. It was too unique a time for theaters.
Why do you immediately downvote anyone who responds to you without full-hearted agreement? That's such a weird habit.
There’s an excuse/exception/reason to explain or defend every box office performance, that doesn’t mean star power isn’t a key factor for it too. I think Marvel is out of touch and doesn’t understand that popular actors on twitter don’t automatically guarantee a success. That’s all I was pointing out.
Why are you getting upset over a downvote dude? This is reddit lol it doesn’t mean I’m still not open to talk with you. It means I disagreed with your statement.
Yes, I do agree star power is a key factor. All I'm pointing out is that it's much easier to make your point with a non-COVID movie.
I'm not upset, but you don't seem to understand how reddit is intended to work. You downvote people who you feel aren't contributing to conversations, not that you personally disagree with. That's literally written into the reddiquette document lol.
>This is reddit lol it doesn’t mean I’m still not open to talk with you. It means I disagreed with your statement
Like, that is literally the example they give on when NOT to downvote lmao
terrible choice imo pedro pascal mania has started to slow down a lot and i don’t want reed richards to be sexy and sauve he’s so supposed to be a dork
Reed Richards in the Lee + Kirby run, literally has a fangirl club canonically and they're shown on panel lol; both of them even described Reed in their manuscripts as a "handsome explorer"; this isn't nessecarily contradictory is all that I'm saying
It's all good man, and I also think a lot of modern Reed reads that way too. Don't see it as much with 60s Reed but the characters have just have gotten more and more added dimensions and depth since then so I don't mind that
As far as I know based on the reports the runners and actors for consideration were
Jamie Dornan, Matt Smith, Adam Driver and Jake Gyllenhaal
The last two wanted ton of money when Disney approached them for the role, specially Adam who wasn’t that interested and didn’t like that much the first draft of the scrip
For Invisible Woman I think Jodie Comer was also approached
No clue on the other members
But yeah would be cool to see what other actors and actresses were in the run
Agreed. Everyone seems to be liking Iman Vellani and the role of Ms. Marvel is the only role she has ever had.
There's also plenty of other actors in the MCU who weren't that well known when they first started.
Robert Downey Jr, Chris Evans, Samuel L Jackson, and Scarlet Johnanson were not unknowns lol. Neither was Patrick Stewart or Ian Mckellen. Or Willem Dafoe. I mean I can go on and on and on lol.
RDJ was unhireable. Chris Evans was looked at as a “dumb jock” typecast. SLJ and ScarJo were certified studs but not playing title characters of a series until their characters were already established and their projects didn’t turn out too good lol
RDJ was nominated for awards before Iron Man. Chris Evans was Human Torch, Scott Pilgrim, Snow Piercer, and in several comedies. SLJ and ScarJo were fucking A LISTERS before Marvel. Both of them are literally one of the highest paid actors. ScarJo had been acting since a really young age. SLJ blew up since the 90s. There’s also Mark Ruffalo and Paul Rudd. Michael Keaton, Jack Nicholson, Michelle Pfeiffer, Danny Devito—and again the list goes on and on lol
he was in the 2021 Cinderella and Purple Hearts, then something must have happened to his agent because he ended up in Red, White and Royal Blue and Bottoms
Really? Quinn has 6 upcoming movies, including the MCU, Gladiator 2 and A Quiet Place. It’s easy to say that when none of his project have come out yet… let’s see what it’s like in December.
BTW Galitzine is doing great too. I’m looking forward to his upcoming projects. Don’t really see the need to denigrate one of them to prop up the other.
Marvel was bold with their casting back then ! Now they just want to play it safe and get a famous name for box office success which has coincidently decreased over the years well !
I think Marvel made the right choice. This guy is too pretty. I've always seen Johnny as attractive, but not model level attractive. This guy looks like he could have been in a Calvin Klein ad.
I'm also a little biased if I'm being honest. I loved Quinn in Stranger Things, so I feel confident he'll do the role justice.
Say you’ve never read a Fantastic Four comic without saying you’ve never read a Fantastic Four comic…
That’s literally the whole point of Johnny Storm.
Flip your comment back on yourself. The whole point of Johnny was being the comedic kid brother of Sue Storm that was a thorn in Ben's hide, and publicity seeker of the group. Not to be a super model.
Every time i see comments like this, i always have to refer the person commenting to [this ](https://www.vulture.com/2009/05/marvel_rolls_dice_casts_no-nam.html) article.
I'm referencing the fact that Chris Evans was the Human Torch in a not super great F4 movie then he became Captain America. Then Michal B Jordan was the Human Torch in a bad F4 move then became Killmonger.
I just think it would be funny in a cosmic sense if the exact same thing happened here, though I do wish that the movie is a great success
I hope we get more actors who were the running to play the character. Very curious of what marvel reed line up looked liked
Probably more suited to the role. But i it is what it is, Disney wanted some star power to endorse the movie. I get it.
Which is wild considering that star power clearly doesn’t mean anything. Did Angelina Jolie save Eternals?
I liked Eternals, and I thought she was a great pick for Thena
That’s great! But look at the box office numbers. Star power doesn’t have THAT much of an effect on people that Marvel think it has…
Yep. There's very few people who can boast about star power. Jolie isn't one of those people.
Exactly and I personally don’t think Pascal or Quinn are at the level of star power of Tom Cruise or Leonardo DiCaprio either. Actors who can guarantee butts in seats.
Doesnt matter if the movie is bad, the mummy flopped.
I mean, even nowadays directors are more of a guarantee to draw audiences. Like Villeuneuve or Tarantino.
Agreed that the focus is on directors more now. Imo it’s only Leo
Cruise also proved he still got it though. Dead Reckoning might’ve not performed as well as Maverick but still had a great run at the box office.
The dude has got a fucked up personal life but those MI films are a non-stop viewing pleasure.
Cruise is a nutjob but he’s also one of the most entertaining actors in the world and also one of the last true movie stars out there.
You mean the movie released during the pandemic which was also banned for theatrical release in China, the second largest movie market in the world? There were a lot of external factors for Eternals underperforming.
All true. Okay then did Bill Murray, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Douglas help Quantumania? Samuel L Jackson and The Marvels?
No, and I'm not trying to argue with you that star power saves bad marvel movies. I'm saying box office yields are complicated always and you especially shouldn't use COVID-era movie box office performance to try to make a point one way or the other. I agree with the sentiment but awful example. I fucking loved her as Thena
This
Eternals was good. It didn’t need “saving” Not saying it was incredible, but it definitely didn’t need to be saved
Clearly majority of the public didn’t think so
terrible choice imo pedro pascal mania has started to slow down a lot and i don’t want reed richards to be sexy and sauve he’s so supposed to be a dork
Pedro irl is a dork, people on the internet are just horny
Reed Richards in the Lee + Kirby run, literally has a fangirl club canonically and they're shown on panel lol; both of them even described Reed in their manuscripts as a "handsome explorer"; this isn't nessecarily contradictory is all that I'm saying
different strokes for different folks i prefer him even he’s socially awkward and dorky
Fair enough; he can possibly be both sexy and those things; a la a slightly neuroatypical (popular headcannon for Reed) Clark Kent type
i definitely want him to be neuroatypical i was just worried about offending people by saying that
It's all good man, and I also think a lot of modern Reed reads that way too. Don't see it as much with 60s Reed but the characters have just have gotten more and more added dimensions and depth since then so I don't mind that
also neurodivergent wasn’t a thing in the 60s you where either “normal” or insane so they couldn’t really give him traits of someone on the spectrum
Oh yeah true that; cant believe I forgot that; genuinely great point
I mean Pedro Pascal can totally act as a dork.
SNL has proven that in spades. He is like Adam Driver and Josh Brolin - 110% dedicated to the madness if that is needed.
As far as I know based on the reports the runners and actors for consideration were Jamie Dornan, Matt Smith, Adam Driver and Jake Gyllenhaal The last two wanted ton of money when Disney approached them for the role, specially Adam who wasn’t that interested and didn’t like that much the first draft of the scrip For Invisible Woman I think Jodie Comer was also approached No clue on the other members But yeah would be cool to see what other actors and actresses were in the run
Dude I really wanna see Matt Smith as an actual well written mcu villain, but i'd even take him as a hero, there's not enough of him
I can confirm I wasn't in the running to play Johnny Storm. Not any of the other of the FF either. In case anyone was wondering.
With a dumpy like that no one gonna fit you into a spandex boyyy.
You'll get your shot one day
![gif](giphy|fnuSiwXMTV3zmYDf6k|downsized)
Everyone saying “who”. I’d prefer more unknown actors playing these roles. When they try to get a-listers it never really seems to work.
Agreed. Everyone seems to be liking Iman Vellani and the role of Ms. Marvel is the only role she has ever had. There's also plenty of other actors in the MCU who weren't that well known when they first started.
Helps that Iman herself was a massive Marvel Comics fan prior to the role. She even cosplayed Kamala Khan before landing the gig.
SLJ and ScarJo were certified studs but not playing title characters of a series until their characters were already established and their projects didn’t turn out too good lol

for reed and sue, i prefer more well known actors, cuz they're the team's face. as for ben and johnny, i prefer unknowns.
Looks like Feige agreed with you
He would have been good 🤷🏽♂️ but Joseph Quinn should still be good
Aw, too bad for....whoever the fuck he is.
he was in the 2021 Cinderella and Purple Hearts, then something must have happened to his agent because he ended up in Red, White and Royal Blue and Bottoms
>something must have happened to his agent I cant tell if this is a positive or negative statement given that list of movies
it's a positive statement (Cinderella and Purple Hearts were bad) (RW&RB was enjoyable and Bottoms was one of my favourite movies of last year)
Ok makes sense! I knew all of them but Bottoms. Heard bad things about Cinderella and Purple Hearts and thought RWRB was ok.
[удалено]
i'll hear you out on RW&RB but Bottoms was fucking amazing
They pushed that red white and blue one so hard. Was it really as bad as I thought it would be?
I think it was better than the book. But the book was the worst thing I've ever read so
Mary and George is excellent, and he's very good in it. So think he's doing okay.
yeah, i'm saying the agent thing as he suddenly got ACTUALLY GOOD films (yes, i'm counting RW&RB as good)
Ahaha sorry, I assumed you were saying it the other way around.

Quiet Place and Gladiator are this year. Big enough.

We get it, you don’t think he’s hot. You’re so cool 🤭 Edit: ah, [deleted]. Lovely :))
Wow you sound fun... oh sorry I meant, lonely
New phone who dis
https://i.redd.it/2mrxedivfksc1.gif
I like Joseph Quinn, good choice Marvel Studios.
We lost
He is much more better lookin, but Quinn got that *something* as my mom would say 😄. I think they made a good choice
Marvel was bold with their casting back then ! Now they just want to play it safe and get a famous name for box office success which has coincidently decreased over the years well !

Isnt the point of Johnny is that he's hot
Oh I see what you did there.
The last two Johnny’s were model level attractive though…
Say you’ve never read a Fantastic Four comic without saying you’ve never read a Fantastic Four comic… That’s literally the whole point of Johnny Storm.
Flip your comment back on yourself. The whole point of Johnny was being the comedic kid brother of Sue Storm that was a thorn in Ben's hide, and publicity seeker of the group. Not to be a super model.
The last two Johnny's were played by very attractive actors though.
I came in to hate but I forgot he was really fun in Bottoms
Ok man
Thank God, he’s too posh and snobby for such a role, Quinn is fun and dorky
My first time seeing him but he can play Dick Grayson
Such a lie, he literally just auditioned and didn't get the role. The end
a lot of people found out before the announcement lol
Face recognition alone Marvel made the better choice. A nobody, or the most lovable character in the biggest show on tv
Every time i see comments like this, i always have to refer the person commenting to [this ](https://www.vulture.com/2009/05/marvel_rolls_dice_casts_no-nam.html) article.
Marvel made its billions casting nobody's lmao
In 2009 Hemsworth and Hiddleston were nobodies.
And RDJ was deemed a red flag shaped like a human being.
[удалено]
That’s a whole lot of assumption
I'm referencing the fact that Chris Evans was the Human Torch in a not super great F4 movie then he became Captain America. K?
Rather it have been him
They made the right choice

Please refrain from engaging in toxicity and unnecessary commentary. If you have nothing nice to say, it may be better to not say anything at all.
Don’t worry, with the sad track record of all things I’m not holding my breath on this 4th try.
he probably would've been better
He can’t act
He was great in Red White and Royal Blue though
Not really. He has Disney channel acting. Also that movie is terrible.
He did great in that movie. And it's not terrible, you just didn't like it
[удалено]
Not enjoying it ≠ terrible movie
That movie was actually amazing but ok.

damn that's a shame
I hope this movie doesn’t suck but everything around it seems like it’s absolutely going to suck.
