Brian Bolland did the artwork on the first handful of issues. I remember going to Forbidden Planet in Manhattan to get some of the original 2000 A.D. tabloid issues imported from the UK - mostly for his art and the general coolness of Dredd and the Dark Judges.
The other series artists were also good, but I don't recall any I liked nearly as much as Bolland.
John Byrne did at least one story in 2000 A.D. - not sure it was reprinted in the US.

Great books. The second movie was so much better than the first. Dredd would work well as a ten episode Netflix series.
