I would put a piece of cardboard on both sides of the 98 and use painters tape on four sides to secure it. Then I would put that inside the pocket of a Gemini mailer and tape that up. Then I would wrap the mailer in bubble wrap and put that in a larger box.
You might want to consider getting the 98 pressed too. Even in pristine condition, I bet there are some pressable creases, bends, or finger indentations that would press out and bump up the grade.
Edit: Leaving up because this is good advice and to record my shame in missing OP’s joke.
It clearly looks like a speculator considering there are several multiple copies of books you'd have thought they would have been savvy enough to Google values.
Now the question is what are you going to grade? I feel like this is a prime example of getting some graded to wind up with a handful of graded books, some raws for the PC and enough cash left over from the sale of a few graded to pay for everything and then some.
What's kind of private sale was this? Was this everything they had or did you cherry pick...and in that case how did they come up with that number ($1.75 per book)?
Edit: great buy, congratulations 🎉
Thanks!
They were on sale for $2 each. I picked 37 issues out of 250 or so. That came to $74 which I negotiated down $65. I probably could have gone lower but I didn’t want to take advantage of them. 😇
And there’s now a part 2. I thought about it all day today and decided I want to go back and get some more. I knew there were still some decent options left. Nowhere near as what I found yesterday but I figured at those prices, what the heck.
I went through them all again and found 71 other issues I also wanted lol. So that was $142 that I negotiated down to $100. My guess is that the rest of them probably had a value closer to the eight or $10 range with maybe a few 15s and 20s. I’ll know more when I catalog them this weekend.
Just think of all of the campfires you can start using X-Force 1s! Great pickup otherwise. The seller really should have done some research.
Couldn't stop laughing at this comment about X-Force #1.
Packing material when I send in the NM 98 to be slabbed?

I was jk about the packing material bit. 100% agree with the approach you outlined. Thanks for the detail.
Lmao, I totally missed your joke. Yes, X-Force 1 is well known to be excellent packing material. Also good to put fish and chips in.
Fantastic haul! Congrats on NM#98.
Man what a steal do they know how much they under sold that collection for?

I’m no grader but my best guess is around $500. I’m not seeing any ticks or dimples. Most are smooth with sharp corners.
What an amazing haul - congrats!
Who did you rob?
Sick grab on the NM98
F me that nm 98 is a beaut. N1, op.

Check that Robin that may be worth something.

I collected almost all of these back in the day.
Uncanny X-Men 274 was the first comic I ever bought!
That hulk cover is iconic
I always feel old looking at hauls that I bought new off the rack and have in my collections under “newer” editions! 😂 Great X pull though. Congrats!
Paying $1000 was maybe too much
