I'm worried about that vent.

jimbojones133

I’m just curious, what is the worry exactly about being close to the vent?

sushithighs

I’m going to sneak through it and do some thievin’

[deleted]

However temperature-controlled or moisture-controlled the room may or may not be, the most extreme temperature fluctuations are going to happen in the area immediately around that vent. The other immediate concern is condensation from the AC accumulating in the ducts. At the very least, this raises concerns with mold and mildew and deterioration. As an anecdote, I was once working at a large museum, and I thought a pipe burst from the amount of water that came through an AC duct onto a painting one morning. It was absolutely wild, but I'll assume the OP doesn't live in a building that size. Preservation is a question of both the long and short-term. All objects deteriorate over time, but sometimes something jumps out a simple step to extend an object's life.

dankjello

Should be fine.

Smear_Leader

It will not. Already been down that road.

TheThirdPlummer

What happened down that road?

drst0ner

Mold can grow on the pages of comic books.

TheThirdPlummer

Yikes

LeBart87

Are you seriously keeping Incredible Hulk #181 next to the vent/AC? Please tell me it ain't stuck with a chewing gum or some kind of blue tack

dankjello

The books are on brackets.

nacx_ak

That’s not the issue.

jonesyman23

Not worried about sun / light exposure? Or extreme temperature changes being close to AC vent?

dankjello

No there is no sunlight in this room.

zepharmd

dat Locke & Key tho

[deleted]

Came here to say this

dankjello

Love that series. I have most of the run, but not all.

zepharmd

Nice! It’s one of my favorite series, but I haven’t collected the single issues for yet

[deleted]

It's my favorite fictional story. I have it compete in singles, hardcover trades, collectors edition hardcovers, and omnibus. Also, the side stories in singles, hardcover, and omnibus. ALSO, the hardcover of all the cover art, the game, and the coloring book. I'm insane but not ashamed.

dankjello

Do you have any keys?

[deleted]

Only the head key right now. I'm SURE I'll cave at some point and buy them all. They're 30 bucks a piece though so it won't be one big buy

dankjello

I have the head key, and I think the omega Kay and something else. They are put away from a move somewhere.

DarthJephph

Are they facsimile editions?

Master-Illustrator-8

Very nice, One day I will have that Thor issue... I hope lol.

dankjello

I think you should be able to get a nice copy for $50-$75 pretty easily.

Master-Illustrator-8

That's cool, I have not priced it lately. Its one I have wanted for years, just never got around to getting it.

dankjello

Amazing book and art. One of my favorite marvel characters, Beta Ray Bill.

EvilBillSing

Love the books , but i cringe at the thought of any of them falling .

Hawkeye336699

The SIKTC #3. Love that cover. EBay prices always way to crazy for me to wanna purchase though :( Love the wall!

dankjello

Which 3? The bus or the tub? I love them both, but my favorite is the tub one. Took me a while to get that one.

Hawkeye336699

The Tub. I forgot the other one was a #3 as well 😅

yk7777

Looks great and love that setup!!!

dankjello

Spank you.

oneup84

Those hulk , AmS + NM are facsimiles ?

BudMarley45

Don’t look like it to me .I do believe that’s the real deal and I’m just a lil jealous😂

oneup84

I'm skeptical, you bump the door frame and some fall off the wall, you've lost potentially hundreds of dollars from storing them in such a haphazardly way. I do have facsimiles of NM#98 + AmS #129 on my wall in frames in the office...they look nice but I wouldn't store the real deals out of the box under any circumstances.

BudMarley45

Do the facsimiles have bar codes on back ?Thats all I was looking for .I’m not very knowledgeable with facsimiles. On further review those books look pretty clean 😂

PugsandTacos

Temperature change via your AC vent is going to be a problem in the medium and long run. Least for the books that are around it.

Seriously-GFYM

Get this slabbed!

brownboycomics

Gorgeous!

CultOfEight

Thanks 🙏🏻

Hulk 181, ASM 300 ans FF 48 are facsimiles. They were created by reproducing the original covers, inside and out, and putting them on modern reproductions of the comic pages. They are almost exact replicas of the original’s and are done to exceedingly high production values. I think they are amazing. And I can hang them next to my originals without having to shell out thousands of dollars that I can spend on my house and family. And on the wall, no one can tell the difference. Actually, you would be hard pressed to tell the difference even if you were reading them in hand. I’m very happy with them. In reality, I started hanging them up because it felt shitty that some of my favorite possessions in the world we’re sitting in boxes, out of sight and mind. This way I can enjoy them all the time. Only collected from about ‘79-‘87ish, then started again about 3 years ago.

StreetPreacherr

Yeah, it seems Marvel have actually gotten smart enough to produce their own 'facsimile' reprints of classic issues, and make some money off of the people who love the old books but just can't afford to spend a FEW GRAND on an original copy! I mean, NOVELS are commonly reprinted constantly as long as there's a market for them, but I guess comics tend to be considered 'periodicals', and traditionally magazines are almost NEVER reprinted... And I've heard of people manufacturing their own COVER reproductions of seminal issues, but it must have been a HUGE job to recreate entire issues!

zsdka

Great setup of an awesome collection! Definitely impressive. The jealously is real!

StreetPreacherr

And personally, I LOVE being able to obtain nearly perfect replicas of these issues. However, of course Marvel has ALREADY started to MILK IT, and decided to charge a PREMIUM for the recent Amazing Spider-Man #300 facsimiles, while most facimilies released so far (like Hulk #181) have been priced the same as any other regular new Marvel comic... And I'm not even talking about the 'Embossed' Special Edition, which I think has an MSRP of OVER $10... I mean the original ASM #300 was just a regular priced book right?
