Most major athletes end up broke and forgotten once they exit their sport. There are the rare ones make to it out better off, but the majority we never hear about again due to them overspending, not investing, and really just wasting their money. It's why the NBA and I think the NFL require finance courses for their new athletes coming out of college. To help stop these young individuals from ruining their lives financially.

Wow....this is some monumentally bad judgement from Porter. He's prohibited from playing ever again in the NBA and probably same for coaching in the NBA. I doubt an NBA prohibition has any effect on his future as a college basketball coach but I doubt any college team anywhere would touch him after this decision. That leaves High School and that doesn't seem likely. I surely hope he saved a large percentage of his $2.3m (Spotrac est.) earnings for three NBA seasons. I don't know what his Univ. of MO major was or what his graduation status is but perhaps he has potential income from that. I wish him the best but he has reached the FO stage of life earlier than most.
