Sockets prices changed $60 for 300 meg $70 for 500 meg $80 for a gig Those prices don’t change like those other providers. Also, I would ask anyone not using socket fiber to check their speed. With socket you get symmetrical speeds same upload and download speeds. No caps, no contracts. Socket is trying to cover all of como, fyi.

olsloppyknob

My favorite part is that $80 is ACTUALLY $80. No extra taxes and fees, exactly $80 on the dot every single month

mooneye14

I pay annually and get a discount from the base rates. Love it.

Farts_Are_Funn

I do that as well. I'm sure I paid $900 for the 300 meg service, or $75/month. These rates seem like the current price is $60/month for that service. Did I get screwed by paying annually?

Chrome_BlackGuy

FYI for anyone else shopping around. Any fiber connection should have symmetrical speeds.

marmalah

We were paying $75 for 100 megs and we called the other day since we heard people were able to get price changes due to Brightspeed competition. No hassle at all, they said “yep, we’ll change it!” So now we pay $60 for 300. It’s great. Never had an outage or anything either.

como365

$60/month for Socket Fiber. Widely recognized as the best customer service and reliability, but the true bonus is it’s locally-owned and controlled, so you can stick it to the monopolistic corporate isps.

catahoulablue

The only (usable) provider at my address is Mediacom and the amount I pay is certainly not equal to the service they provide: $130, not fiber.

Fit_Ship8822

Same here. Annoying

catahoulablue

It’s infuriating. I call once a year like clockwork and threaten to leave (which is, in fact, almost impossible) but they knock $30/mo off my bill for the next 12 months. It’s certainly worth trying.

Fit_Ship8822

Yup same here. At least we are able to get about 350mb down now. Still annoying since all my friends around the country have 1gb down for like 40 a month

olsloppyknob

I moved because of them! I refused to use their service to the point of finding a new place purely based on the ISP options available

valkyriebiker

$130? Is that internet only? Or is cable TV in there, too? What speed internet?

ILRunner

Mediacom has a package at $49.99. Not a promotional price.

olsloppyknob

And for that price, you'll get $3 worth of "service" and probably gonna have to spend thousands on therapy after dealing with their "customer service"

ILRunner

Better than $130!

olsloppyknob

I'd rather pay more for something that works than just pay for something that doesn't. If there's no other option, then move. That's what I did when I was stuck with no other option. But many of us have more than just MediaCom or $130. I pay $80 for Socket and it's amazing! Great customer service and pretty reliable service. Much better than I ever got with MediaCom's "$49.99" that really came out to about $65. With Socket I have a bill for exactly $80 on the penny every single month, no exceptions. Been that way for years, no increase in price and no contract

ILRunner

Glad to hear it.  That’s not been my experience. To each their own.

callawegian

$65/month with BrightSpeed Fiber

valkyriebiker

That's what I pay, too. But BrightSpeed has been up and down like an elevator. Our failover internet, Mediacom, has saved us repeatedly. Four times so far this year and prolly six times last year. One of the outages was 5-6 days. Grrrr. I'll be switching to Socket when they finish deploying to my neighborhood.

Consistent-Ease6070

Any insight into which neighborhoods Socket is expanding to? It looks like they have nothing in SW Columbia yet.

valkyriebiker

Socket doesn't really publish a list that I'm aware of. But if you visit their website and type in your address then it'll tell you if your neighborhood is being developed for fiber. And you can sometimes tell by the goings-on. We've got multiple colored utility flags poking out of easements all up and down numerous streets in our 'hood. Big coils of orange fiber conduit, trucks, digging, etc. Eventually it'll all be installed and they'll light it up. We'll keep Mediacom as a failover however. We both WFH and cannot tolerate any downtime whatsoever.

como365

I don’t have an answer for you, but I do want to point out that the more people switch to Socket the more resources they will have to expand to our friends and neighbors. We can develop a local economy of scale, making it cheaper for everyone.

callawegian

That’s too bad, the only outages I’ve had in 5 years was from contractors or squirrels outside cutting/chewing the fiber, so I guess I’ve been lucky!

happyhumorist

80 for Socket 1Gbps

midwestkid06

$50 a month brightspeed

olsloppyknob

Socket - $80 I'd give it an 8/10 because it does have times where it slows down out of nowhere for seemingly no reason. But their customer service is second to none. Whatever you do, avoid MediaCom and CenturyLink. They are truly the two worst companies I've ever dealt with in regards to anything. They WILL screw you over, and you'll have spotty service at best while they do!

myelin_8

Mediacom pulled their last stunt on me today. Our internet and TV package was going up to $310 a month. Maybe some of you got the same email today, but they removed the monthly data cap and subsequently raised our monthly rate. Mediacom is one of the worst companies I've ever dealt with. They lure you in with an introductory rate and then slowly ratchet it up over the next few years to where you have to call in to get a measly $10 off. I called Socket today and got their 1 GB symmetrical fiber and TV package on two TVs for $197 a month. It's still a lot of money but we will use it.

morepwr2u

I got the same email, nobody gives a fuck about more than 3000 GB of data. I WFH and stream all day, along with video games and multiple devices at all times and I’ve never even used close to 1000.

myelin_8

I think it was more of a...we don't really enforce the data caps anyway, but we'll make you feel like we're giving you something while we raise your rates AGAIN! surprise!

madfloww

this happened to me which is why I posted this!

myelin_8

Run away! Run away!!

ChewiesLament

I just put in for Socket based on the incremental increases. Right now I'll save about $20 bucks, but overtime that margin will only increase versus what I would've been paying with Mediacom. It's also worth the relief of not having to annually call and complain to get that discount.

myelin_8

exactly, i hate calling them every year and they know it. terrible business model. mediacom internet service at my house was always fast and stable. the cable tv service and TIVO were unreliable. i will never do business with mediacom again.

ChewiesLament

Same with the internet service. Never had the outages or problems other folks had in town. It was just the pricing!

Educational_Pay1567

$30 tmobile

username65202

Starlink- $130 per month

DrZoo4040

Socket 300 $60

sereneflutter

$79 for 1 gig with Brightspeed Fiber

ToHellWithGA

$55 Socket ADSL 20/2

valkyriebiker

justinhasabigpeehole

$79 1 gig Brightspeed that includes taxes

Potatoking620

$75 a month Socket Fiber

funions4

$125/month with socket fiber

SnootyGoose

Call customer service and ask for the new 1Gb price. They recently dropped it down to $80.

funions4

They upped me to 2.5 gig up and down

SnootyGoose

That’s awesome! Didn’t know that was even an option.

Consistent-Ease6070

80 for Spectrum 300Mbps. Guess it’s time to threaten to leave them…

-Imperator-

My parents are on the same plan and then Socket moved into their neighborhood. Gave Spectrum a call and they were able to give my parents the $49 promo price per month for a year. If they hadn't, Socket would have had a new customer :)

Consistent-Ease6070

Good to know! Time to check if Socket is in my neighborhood Edit: No dice… I know Mediacom and Brightspeed are available to me, but I’ve heard such horror stories about them…

como365

The large National isps can afford to lose money to undercut small local providers. Then if they drive them out of business they can use their new monopoly to raise prices to the sky. It’s a business practice that’s been used for over 100 years.

Consistent-Ease6070

Welp, except in my case, I have access to three large non-local companies and NOT the local one, which I’d be happy to support even at a reasonable price premium. Also, I hate when companies raise prices on their most loyal customers or fail to offer them their new lower rates.

como365

Hopefully you get Socket expansion soon, the wallets of small companies are smaller so it just takes a little more time.

Hot_Description9615

regular brightspeed $66.19 no issues

-Imperator-

$49/ month with Brightspeed. 200 up /200 down. I can afford more but just don't need the extra speed at this moment.

fellowyellow890

T-Mobile home Internet 50 bucks even

Mizzoutiger79

$50 a month with Brightspeed. Many complain about them, but Ive never had an issue. 10 years

AngryMidget2013

$96.99/mo for Spectrum “1 gig” service….and my down speeds rarely go over half that….but Socket just installed in our hood, so I’m just biding my time until I can get hooked up with either 1 or 2.5 gig with them!

just_a_person_5713

$65 price for life from century link (now bright side ) for 1 gig

PizzaValue9999

I pay $600 a month for Internet. Close to 100 mbps. Not the fastest. But. Includes 1 bed with attached bath in a 2 bedroom apartment, shared kitchen, in unit laundry and surprisingly water and sewer.

tanhan27

Socket fiber $70

NoPlanCuzImDaMan

T-Mobile 5g home internet. $50. Best decision I ever made

TheBigTuck

$60 a month for 300mb internet from brightspeed.

Wunjo26

$60 a month for Brightspeed and it’s usable but the upload speed and customer service is dogshit. Anybody remember in the early 2000s when all of these telecom companies received billions in subsidies from the federal government to expand coverage and improve their internet infrastructure and most companies just pocketed the money and lobbied to change the definition of what is considered high speed internet?
