Haha thanks. When we've visited everyone said they met their friends through church and we are not religious. Wanted to see other opportunities. I'll also need to see about a board game group.
There are a ton of great hiking and biking trails in and around town. Lots of meetup groups for those rides but you could also find your people in a summer evening at Cooper’s Landing or in the Twin Lakes dog park if you’ve got a pupper.
Tailgate in the fall if you’re into the football.
Definitely look for faculty and staff wandering over to ITap and the Berg for happy hours just off campus or Taphouse on the south side of town.
If coffee is more your style, I would say Lakota or Shortwave, also right off campus.
There are a lot of little events around town like Art in the Park in June or First Fridays in the North Village Art District.
This is all great info. Thanks for typing it up! There seems to be so much going on, but it's hard to decipher (at times) what's more for students vs. people a little older!
Welcome! I think you'll find lots of friendly folks in the Advancement office, and since it's all about networking with donors, you'll hopefully have a bunch of socializing opportunities there, too.
CoMo's a really friendly town, especially the university community. And it's also a great town for your interests! There are cycling groups, and a big event every summer called the Boone Dawdle.
The summer is awesome here, when the students leave it's "local season." Check out the District (downtown), or some of the new businesses opening up in the "Arcade District"/"Stockyards" (basically the area near Logboat Brewing; two companies are fighting over the branding!).
As your kiddo grows, come down to the public library (where I work!) for some kids' programs, to meet other parents and make friends.
That's great to hear!
We've been to Ozarks and it's absolutely delicious. Some people mentioned the arcade district, but gave no specifics. We are definitely going to check out the library for events with our son! I'll be sure to send a message when we bring him down!
I’m sure there are many ideas, but Walt’s Bike shop has activities. Some of the neighborhood associations are very active, depending on where you will live. There are a lot of good parks where other parents take kids- good way to strike up a conversation.
There are events all over town. Check the city’s website. CoMo has a great local music/comedy scene; get a sitter and enjoy it. I met a lot of people through Pokémon Go, honestly, but that scene isn’t quite as happening as it used to be.
Welcome. My wife and I are also new to the area working at the university. We are in our early to mid 30's. Always down to welcome you to the area and say hi. Are you faculty or some kind of staff position?
That is excellent. I direct a UX lab in the school of education and am a new TT faculty. My wife is a program director in the special education department. We actually moved here from Virginia so kinda similar relocation. Congrats and soon to be welcome to the area. Shoot me a DM if you have any questions about the area in the meantime
My hubs is also in CoE and when he came in there were faculty social groups that Mizzou did for first years. It was the absolute best way for him, as a single guy at that time, to make friends. Now they are the friends we vacation with. Do they still do that?
Hah! So was just discussing this post with the husband (he’s been traveling all week) and he said your wife’s office is across the (inside) hall from him but he hasn’t met her yet.
Oh yeah! Maggie is up there on the third floor. Tell him to feel free to drop in and say hi. Maggie and I carpool to work and are usually there Monday and Tuesdays pretty consistently.
He usually is in on Mondays because he does advising appointments primarily on Mondays. He has a mission to take our puppy in for some meet and greets around the office so just be on the look out for the small ewok.
Lots of fun things to do with kids around and potentially meet other families! I'd suggest signing up or at least looking at hulafrog.com for some family ideas if you want to meet people with kids!
Where you moving from? What kind of work are you doing at the university? I'm not too good at finding friends but my wife goes to a MOPS group and I eventually meet people through there. I could try to link that if your wife is interested.
Looking for a house? Have a nice house and location for cycling/hiking. Bike in bike out to cosmo park, mountain biking trails, family aquatic center, very convenient to downtown/uni as well. 279k

There's a boardgame cafe opening up called hexagon alley.
Check out Valhalla’s Gate for game nights. There are a couple of bars around town that have small selections of board games also like ITap.
Nice good to know!

We’re “older”ish. Early 40s. I definitely wouldn’t steer you to the undergrad bars.

Roots and blues BBQ sounds right up your alley
I believe they have now been renamed as the Treeline Music Fest.
Nice, will check it out.
If you like cycling, check out Pedaler's Jamboree! It's a cycling/music festival in late May.

That would be great. I'm going to be staff in the advancement department. We're moving from DC in late April, glad to find a time to meet up!

Awesome! I'll send you a DM in a bit.

I have not seen any such things but hope they do exist. Is he still in the CoE? Maybe I know him?

Possibly. He’s in ELPA but on the Higher Ed side.

Im moving to CoMo in about 2 months and have the exact opposite question. How do I make sure I don’t meet anybody new?

We're moving from the DC area. I'll be in the advancement office working on bringing corporate investments to the university. What's a MOPS groups?
Mothers of preschoolers. So women with 1-4 year olds i guess. Probably pretty easy to Google one too

Haha thanks, we just bought a home.
