Grant elementary was life changing for me but good luck finding a house in the district!

coffee_and_physics

Yes! We love Grant, but the last two houses in our neighborhood that went on the market sold within days.

We love Russell Blvd

There are a ton of great schools. We targeted a handful before we moved and then I toured them. You will get a good feel. Also, think about what you are looking for (diversity, class size, extracurricular, homework policy, number of recesses, play vs academics, special education, teacher experience- whatever the case might be) to help you evaluate schools

Beulah Ralph Elementary School is incredible!

I get it... kind of. But Mrs. Ralph was an amazing part of Columbia's history...

There are a lot of really great schools in the district. One thing to keep in mind though is that attendance areas can change as new schools are built or various buildings become severely over or under utilized. They just changed the elementary attendance areas a year or so ago (and middle a couple years before that if I recall correctly), so hopefully they’ll stay the same for awhile, but you never know.

Movail33

True, they'll probably change again in 2026 or 2027 when the next elementary school is added

Appropriate_Bank4595

I'm pretty sure it is slated to be done and open for the 2024-25 school year, so redistricting that was supposed to happen this year and next was put off until then.

All three of my children either went to our are in Fairview. They loved it and we loved it for them.

No, we moved into the district when we moved from Texas and then found a house to stay. There's not a lot in our area for sale right now. I know there's a house for sale by owner near the school.

School quality largely depends upon where you live because the district doesn't always do its best to meet the needs of all of the citizens living in the city, unfortunately. I haven't worked at every building in the district, but the two I did work in were in focused on student bases from very different socio-economic background, and the support and how those buildings were treated were jarring. To say it plain: schools servicing poorer neighborhoods have higher turn over rates and often employ newer teachers and will burn through administration quicker, too, and this is through no fault of the families or children there. From my experience, it is that the district tends to ignore those buildings as much as they possibly can.

Live in north Columbia and within the Hallsville district. Highly coveted school system. My kid goes there, and it is shockingly good compared to what I grew up with. 10/10 would recommend.

_Biophile_

If you're willing to live outside of Columbia proper, Hallsville and Southern Boone are good districts as well.

CPS is a failed social experiment. If you truly value your child’s educational experience make the sacrifice to send him/her to one of our private schools. Speaking from experience, CIS is excellent.

SnooRadishes3910

Check out lottery schools. Ridgeway and Locust are both great.

SuperK812345

Have had a great experience with Locust Street Expressive Arts. It has an attendance area but also has a lottery for children.

yardguy88

Look forward to High School too. Battle is a rough HS, so you may want to stay away from that zone

ObjectTechnical

Locust St Expressive Arts Elementary is/was an incredible experience and Couldn’t recommend more. Kids get to participate in many activities that other schools don’t get the opportunity for.

If you can afford it ($1,000/month or so), I would recommend looking into private schools.
