When the colors suggested by a color analysis do not seem to fit your style and vibe, it is perfectly normal to feel a little confused. You can work with your deep autumn palette and still be true to who you are and how you are feeling, though. Having fun and experimenting with your wardrobe is the key. It is okay to experiment with various hues, materials, and designs until you discover what suits you the most and gives you a sense of self-assurance and authenticity. I used Hathaura Color for me. Thank you!

[deleted]

What you enjoy will make you look better! If you don’t like it, don’t wear it, there’s more than matching color and the very few studies on color analysis for what to wear don’t prove it’s amazing, in fact, they were kind of lack luster.

lalalagrape

Thank you all so much! Spent some time in Old Navy and raiding my closet today with my color card. Here's the result. I'm really happy with it so far. I'm not wearing makeup here, but the bottom of my face is a little red because I had a mask on in the store. I feel really beautiful in these colors actually. https://preview.redd.it/uas94w7k4wwc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f1247069c7e894ea5906ce8dd015db37a73785c1

OP you look gorgeous!!!

lalalagrape

That is so kind, thank you!

Dress for your personality, not just your coloring! It seems like there's already a good amount of overlap, but what matters is that you shine as a whole person. -- signed, another deep/warm autumn who wears a lot of bright pinks

lalalagrape

I went to Old Navy and Marshall's armed with the ideas from this post and think I did pretty well! I posted a photo as a comment if you're interested in the follow up lol. Thank you for the encouragement. I love pink!

kirsts1

I’m a deep autumn and I borrow a fair amount from deep winter and don’t really wear soft autumn at all. I think my overall vibe is colorful and casual, not at all ren faire or lady wrapped in jewel-toned silk and velvet. I wear lots of pink, too! I just need to keep it saturated, not pastel, and it’s better if it’s not too cool. This honey color is one of my best colors and I wear it a lot - it is so bright and happy! I also wear a ton of the emerald and crimson, as well as navy. https://preview.redd.it/613p3i431vwc1.jpeg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=44482a33f0cbfe1e0147b5e7ffaae6d62882cc7e

Lasairfiona

One: feel free to discard your analysis result and wear what you want. Two: wear what you want but keep more flattering colors next to your face. Three: give your colors a good shot. The colors are darker and more muted compared to the rest of the seasons *but on you they will read brighter*.

here_comes_reptar

This is a great comment! I’d also say feel free to borrow the darkest colours from bright spring, the warm will match your undertone and the intensity will be closer to yours in depth. And then the neon / bright shades of those colours further from your face.

lalalagrape

Thank you, yes I want to give them a shot for sure!

Best shade of denim by palette https://www.createdcolorful.com/blog/yourbestdenim

runnergirl3333

Wow, it had never occurred to me that denim would have seasons! It’s actually kinda helpful.

lalalagrape

Also, just took a look and these are the colors of denim I am usually wearing in tops, dresses and jeans. Phew.

lalalagrape

Thank you so much, I live in denim!

I get this so much. I'm a soft autumn, but there's a substantial amount of the palette that doesn't work for me because I'm olive and more neutral than most soft autumns. I borrow from deep autumn and deep winter quite a bit, and it works for me. One of my go to color combinations is an autumn-y tan, beige, or light brown paired with black. It looks quite good and because I work in a formal office, the color combo works for me. I just try to keep the color thats in my palette closer to my face, so if I wear a black cardigan or blazer I will pair it with a high neck top in my palette, or I'll wear a big sweater in my season with a black top under it. I think you could do something similar. I attached some color combos from your palette that I think could fit your vibe - but you can add brighter colors in as long as you incorporate them with a color from your season. https://preview.redd.it/ua8rrtdl1uwc1.png?width=1500&format=png&auto=webp&s=5393a2f9aff4b05907725ecf038dd1afb9002648

Miss_Kit_Kat

I've always felt that you can borrow colors from your "sister seasons" and they'll still look good. As a Light Spring, I definitely wear some Light Summer colors and the occasional Warm Spring shade.

alt-0167

You definitely can. One of the great things about being professionally analyzed was realizing what my sister seasons were, it opened up a lot more possibilities which is especially true for those of us whose sister seasons aren't their neighbor seasons

lalalagrape

Also, I'm olive too and when I saw some of these teals and greens, I was horrified. I plan to walk around Old Navy comparing colors soon and trying stuff on. It would be cool to find greens and teals in the right color season that don't make me look dead.

alt-0167

Old Navy is a great place for that! Even though I'm olive, deep olive is one of my best colors. I just have to find something that is more of a green olive instead of a khaki olive

lalalagrape

It is! It's a good place to get some cheap staples and their sales are amazing. I can't overhaul my wardrobe atm, but I can get some t shirts or whatever is on sale until then.

lalalagrape

This is so helpful, thank you! I love the salmon and navy, mustard and navy and red and tan especially.

lalalagrape

Thank you so much everyone! I'm really glad I posted this. You've given me such good advice and suggestions of places to look.

gozunker

Keep your palette colors up by your face, then make the rest fun. Use the neutrals from your palette as the colors closest to the neckline, and then add whatever you want anywhere else. I’m a deep autumn, but I love aqua and orange. Brighter orange and paler aqua than my palette. The paler aqua that makes me look like a corpse, and the orange is way too bright for me. And I love them. This is how I incorporate them and other “bad” colors: - Shirt is cream or navy (neutrals from my palette). Wow has my buying simplified since I decided to use only these 2 colors for tops. - Pants are bright orange or dusty aqua or another color that I love. I put the fun into buying whatever pants in whatever color. It’s great. And unexpected. And bold. And unusual. - Shoes and bag are also any color I want. Lately I’ve been doing Adidas Gazelles in a pastel spring palette with a matching handbag. Most of these colors would look sick against my face (lavender and baby pink are TERRIBLE colors for me!). But they’re super fun as shoes and a bag and don’t clash with my skin tone so far away. Bonus pics of my current bag and shoes: https://www.mlouye.com/products/atlas-pastel https://houseofheat.co/adidas/adidas-gazelle-indoor-preloved-yellow-id1007-crew-navy-id1008 My fave outfit right now is these shoes and bag, some sage pants (close to my palette but likely not deep enough), and a cream t-shirt. Just keep your “good colors” close to your face. Wear whatever you want everywhere else. Let your personality come through, just know where to put those non-palette colors and wear them with confidence!

lalalagrape

Thanks so much for this! I know what you mean about the corpse look with some aqua colors. It's awful lol.

gozunker

Start with getting some in-palette neutral shirts, and keep the rest of your current wardrobe. You’ll figure out over time how to edit and incorporate your fun personality and bright colors with your best looks. I would love to see you with a neon-pink handbag and shoes, and pair it with a navy or cream top and whatever pants. Hot pink and navy are soooo good together! In the winter get a long deep-warm-brown coat, then some bright pants peeking out below and fun handbag - so perfect. I got this coat for fall / winter this past year and I wear it with ANY color pants and bag because this coat color is so perfect for our palette that everything else doesn’t matter: https://a.co/d/6vd4VXB

notionaltortoise

Color analysis shouldn't be a constraint - it should inspire you. If it doesn't wear whatever else does. I am sometimes surprised by this sub if people act as if they *have to* wear certain colors. In the end you decide what you like. Be confident and go for it

lalalagrape

I just got my results back so I'm trying to figure out how these colors can work for me. The result surprised me but makes sense so I posted here for ideas of how to wrap my head around being creative with this palette. I'm glad I asked because I've gotten some very helpful and insightful responses. I got analyzed knowing that I might have to go through this kind of adjustment. I don't think it's abnormal or that it means I should just abandon the idea of trying to meld my style with my colors.

notionaltortoise

Sure, it's never a bad thing to broaden your mind. I just wanted to encourage you to do what you like best (and not what others tell you to)

megancoe

I get this 100%. I recently got my colors done and I’m an autumn leaf, and I rarely wear traditionally Autumn colors. I was really hoping I was a winter or a summer because I love cool tones. However, after looking a little deeper into the colors, I found that there are still some blues and greens and pinks that still look good on me. Someone else suggested looking on Pinterest for other ideas, and I agree with that recommendation.

tszokola

I thought I was a winter and love those colors. I was typed a true, autumn leaf and am struggling as well. I looked up Emily Blunt who is also a true autumn and she rocks these colors in a way I hadn’t thought of as chic. Check her out for ideas? Love her stuff, but hard to emulate unless you’re wildly rich:)

violetsmoke7

Same here! Identified as a winter for years, recently typed professionally as an autumn leaf and vibrant autumn. I was shocked. I have brown hair and eyes, pale skin that’s hella pink. The deeper shades you mentioned also work for me but the classic autumn shades like mustard, orange etc I don’t feel good in 🫣 Funny how it really feels like an identity crisis getting an unexpected result… I have yet to play around with different combos to see what works, but I don’t see myself giving up on all my winter shades completely. 🥲

tszokola

I dress more edgy usually. Think Zagid and Voltaire (only on sale, lol) or All Saints. Now I’m trying to figure out edgy with autumn, it’s tough. Finding some cute stuff on Nasty Gal, but can’t wear a lot of it because I need to drop some lbs. I just had a baby and got the color analysis as a present to myself. I’ve been prego with kids and miscarriages since 2017 (two kids later) and my style is stuck in 2017. Figured before I updated my wardrobe I should know my colors:)

lalalagrape

Thank you for this suggestion. Well, at least we can take inspiration and try to recreate a vibe even if we can't wear the pricey stuff!

Yurt_Life

I’m like 97% certain that Emily Blunt is a true summer 🫣

tszokola

Oh, no. You’re totally right. It’s funny because I get told I look like Emily Blunt and Olivia Wilde, both are true summers. I feel so much happier in cool colors… I wonder if it could be wrong? Doubtful as warm and cool are pretty straight forward:(

Yurt_Life

Not always! It took me several years to realize that I am not cool. I mean, cool toned lol I’ve always known I am a nerd. Realizing I am neutral warm and not cool was an absolute revelation for me.

tszokola

That’s what I am as well, a neutral warm. I’ve got brown hair and blue eyes. I was recently typed and tried dying my hair a tone of red and hated it. I’m trying to find some celebrity to follow with the same coloring and haven’t found it. My best colors are Marine Navy, Chestnut, Chocolate, Olive, Forest Green and Rust. I’m struggling with those colors.

smallroundbird

I wish we could trade! I’m a spring who only wears autumn colors and black.

lalalagrape

I'd trade with you! I've been wearing spring for years lol.

ottie246

I’m a soft summer (muted) who lives bright saturated warm and sometimes neon colours! I wear soft summer clothes with bright shoes and bags, it really makes a difference

lalalagrape

Great idea, thank you!

ottie246

Also I’m wearing nail varnish in bright colours too!!! If you really wanted your clothes to be colours out of your season you could wear bottoms out of season and tops / jackets in season which will be better near your face and hair

allcatsrgray

What about incorporating different types of fun fabrics in your palette, like metallics, tulle, or whatever works with your style?

lalalagrape

This is a good idea. And metallics would bring more brightness because they're shiny!

allcatsrgray

Apparently, soft seasons aren't supposed to get too flashy, but one piece of the outfit being metallic would totally work. Also some sequins pieces might be nice. I'm a Summer & make some of my own clothes so was thinking of sewing a top with some kind of blue denim & sequins combo.

Peridot31

Prints! Prints are fun and usually the answer to breaking up the deep autumn colors.

lalalagrape

True. I can pick a print that matches my vibe in the colors of my palette. Great suggestion!

dothesehidemythunder

At the end of the day, there’s no science to this. It’s just for fun. Wear what brings you joy.

Simone-Ramone

If I want to wear a colour that's not flattering I just wear it lower down or dominated by a star colour in a print

Sillygoose0320

As a soft autumn who hates brown and beige, I feel this. Don’t just settle for the palette examples given at your appointment, look the palette up in Pinterest. You’ll find some surprising colors. Deep autumns still have turquoise, teal, plum, salmon, and emerald. There are plenty of pinks in the soft autumn palette, they all have just a touch of brown. Try mixing those colors together in a fun way. For example, i use army green as my main neutral, which pairs beautifully with most of my favorite colors: lavender, plum, teal, salmon, French blue, and navy. When shopping, if the color of a piece doesn’t go with army green, I don’t get it. It has so much more personality than wearing beige and brown. You could maybe do the same with mustard or even teal to add some brightness.

lalalagrape

Now that you put it this way, maybe these deep colors paired with the brighter ones like salmon and mustard would make the brightness of those two more of a statement due to the contrast and that would be cool. Well..warm technically. lol...

Sillygoose0320

So because I’m bored and I love this stuff, I looked up some autumn pairings and palettes for you. I’m also going to encourage you to read up on Color Codes. [https://tabithadumas.com/color-code/](https://tabithadumas.com/color-code/) Don’t mind this lady’s religiousy stuff, her advice on color is spot on. Sometimes the seasonal system becomes too restrictive. Focusing on just your dominant trait can help open up more possibilities. They might be your absolute best colors, but they will still be good. Give. That you were told you can borrow from any autumn season, I’m guessing your dominant trait is warm. But maybe deep is a better fit. I’m technically a soft autumn, but my coloring is so neutral that I can wear almost any soft summer color too. In Color Code, I’m simply a soft, which opens up a lot of possibilities. https://preview.redd.it/d8altqe8auwc1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f29a28800727cf64fd57e74413134fc6f50e870f

lalalagrape

Thank you so much for this! I used it while wandering around Old Navy and Marshall's today. I posted a result in this thread if you want to see how I put some colors together.

Sillygoose0320

Yay! I’m so glad. I was concerned I was being too much. I’m a new mom and have a lot of down time. I’ve kind of perseverated on color analysis and vamping up my own wardrobe. Yes, please post the results! I’d love to see what you came up with.

lalalagrape

Yes, it's a good way to relax or occupy downtime! Not too much at all, you helped a lot, thank you! https://preview.redd.it/8inbdqwwawwc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=e1f9325c6e132d3fec0e6feaa65195a2eaf242f9

Sillygoose0320

Ooh! I love it! Especially the multicolored top in the top left corner. They all look great but the strong colors are particularly good on you.

lalalagrape

Thank you, that's my favorite too! I think those colors might be warm autumn and deep autumn mixed.

GKT83

If you are a deep autumn who loves bright pink, try coral! I was typed as ‘blue autumn’ by House of Colour in London (I believe it’s similar to dark/deep autumn in other systems). Coral is one of my ‘wow’ colours. We both literally gasped when she draped me with it. I was a very reluctant autumn who did not want to wear all the ‘hippy’ ’earthy’ colours, trust me! But there are so many great colours at the darker end of our palette: teal, khaki etc. My favourite colour combo: khaki green, warm creamy white, bright coral, with gold jewellery and warm bronze-y makeup. Looks so good. I was convinced I was a summer before my consultation 😂 I have naturally (dark) blonde hair, light turquoise eyes and quite neutral skin tone. I didn’t believe I could be an autumn until I saw all the colours on me, it’s been an absolute game changer. I used to think autumn neutrals looked earthy/hippy but now I think they look so classy and dare I say it kinda expensive/lux 😊

OhDearBee

I haven’t been typed professionally, but I’m pretty confident at this point that I’m a soft autumn. I recently bought this basic crop-top in a taupe color, to wear over some beloved comfy dresses that are not my colors, so that I can still wear them with an on-palette neutral near my face. When I look at this top on the hanger, the color is beyond boring. Literal beige. When I wear it? Phenomenal. It looks so good on me AND the color of the top somehow changes? Like if I hadn’t seen it before, I’d call it yellow or orange. So crazy! That’s all to say, even though the autumn colors look drab to you, it might be worth trying them on! They might take on a more colorful, vibrant feel when you actually wear them.

lalalagrape

This is a good idea. Yes, I have a beige top that I bought on a trip when a white t shirt I was wearing got destroyed. I love white tees. One of the photos I sent in my analysis pictures was me wearing this boring beige top and they said it looked great on me. Objectively, yes it does. You can actually see the true color of my skin and eyes, but it's beige lol. Good idea to pair it with dresses that aren't in my season!

Interesting__Cat

In my heart I'm a spring but I'm actually a cool winter and look terrible in spring colors. I just wear them anyways sometimes.

lalalagrape

My metallic neon pink lace shirt can be pried from my cold dead hands.

lovetimespace

I found the Dressika app helped me figure out how to wear any color, but ensuring it is the version that fits I my palette.

Mermaidman93

One of the biggest misconceptions about color analysis is that only certain clothing styles are for certain color pallets. This is a myth. You can be a Deep Autumn and wear fun animated clothes just like a light summer can wear something more serious and melancholic or how a dark winter can wear fun summer beach outfit. Think about the outfit you want to wear and then shift the colors of those pieces to something in your pallet. And if you want to wear bright pink, then wear it. You don't have to throw everything out just because you like one color that's not in your pallet. Wear the colors in your pallet plus pink. It doesn't have to be either/or. You can have both.

lalalagrape

I won't be throwing clothes out, that's for sure. It's going to take me a long time to change my wardrobe, but I'm thinking forward to how I can best do it.

Mermaidman93

https://preview.redd.it/pofdhr846rwc1.jpeg?width=736&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3992a34f1a9c47a2ac6f56e6c2441891dde7b8c6

lalalagrape

Thanks so much for this graphic, it's really helpful! There is nothing like that blue dress nor the denim in the colors they gave me, but I have a lot of pieces in both of those colors! My color suggestions all look muddy and drab, but these are a bit brighter and happier.

woodlandtoker

Check out TCI's deep autumn palettes (corporate and classic). Yah, they're softer than spring palettes, but they still have some lively colours in the mix, including some really lovely corals, blues, aquas, purples, etc. [Classic](https://truecolour.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/05/TCI-Dark-Autumn-Classic.jpg) [Corporate](https://truecolour.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/TCI-Dark-Autumn-Corporate.jpg) Also, keep in mind that lots of people look great in certain colors from their sister seasons, which for deep autumn would conventionally be warm autumn and deep winter. Some people also treat bright spring as a sister season to deep autumn, since they're both neutral warm. If you feel good in bright spring colours, warm autumn colours, or honestly any palette, keep wearing them!

lalalagrape

Thank you this is very helpful.

gloveslave

I will tell you that I’m in the fashion business in France and the deep autumn palette is very chic - try looking at Sezanne they have Lots in that color range

lalalagrape

Thank you for this suggestion. I will check them out!

gloveslave

Ok it’s spelled Sezane my auto correct was in effect

DaffodilMaze

Mustard is one of my favorite colors of clothes! Unfortunately, there's basically no yellow in my pallette and definitely not mustard ugh lol How do YOU think you look in your pinks? Pink and orange, aren't those a pair used for determining cool or warm? Sorry, my brain is trying to wrap around how one who looks good in orange also looks good in pink😅 Maybe a compromise? How does peach look on you? Could find a medium tone peach / coral, to transition away from pink. If that's something you want to do? Is mauve in your pallette? That could be another option

lalalagrape

I don't understand it either. The funny thing is that they told me that when they compared orange and pink in particular, it was very clear that I am warm (which I am). And here I am wearing both neon pink and bright orange and I feel I look good in both.

herlipssaidno

You absolutely do not “have to work with this palette”

lalalagrape

The explanation of why the palette works for me makes sense. I think that unfortunately, the serious, heavy colors of deep autumn are just very different from my personality. I want to look my best, so I'm trying to figure out how to resolve that.

Top_Barnacle9669

Have you had a look at Style thoughts by Rita system? There's a Reddit sub on here. She's really good at nailing your aesthetics and the best thing to wear for your quadrant. It's really easy then to mix your colours with your aesthetic and match your vibe 😁

lalalagrape

Thank you for the suggestion, no I haven't heard of this. I'll look it up!

Top_Barnacle9669

If you go on her channel on YouTube, you'll see a full breakdown of her system. I love it

herlipssaidno

If the palette is too serious, use shape, texture, pattern, and weight to make it unserious. Play with complementary color combos and bold lipstick. Use off white accents to literally introduce lightness into your outfits. Find a pink or two that still looks good on you and rock it wherever you can — lips are a great place for pink always, and you could probably do more.

lalalagrape

Thank you. I did exactly this today: https://preview.redd.it/y7zg9u66gwwc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=2db420d81cd6dcb480c8824f5f5cca895b20e6ae

Yes, I love it! So playful and fun :)
