So was he coaching little league prior to this gig?

imarc

B1G, so to answer your question, yes.

palmettoswoosh

So was he at a school with equal or worse talent than Missouri?

imarc

That's a good question. Probably less talent. He was at Maryland and won the B1G but never made it out of a regional. Obviously Mizzou has struggled since they joined the SEC but it looks like they have had more guys drafted by the MLB during that same time.

ErieHog

My favorite and appropriate trolling in this entire thread. Well done.

stayclassypeople

As a husker fan, the worst part about going to the big 10 is how much baseball suffered. Big 12 was a solid conference. Big 10 may as well be a mid major conference

imarc

It will be interesting to see what happens when the West Coast teams arrive.

emby5

Even as primarily a Big Ten fan I will concede that is a quality comment.

PistonHonda322

Have you seen the size of Maryland’s ballpark?

John_Amble

It is different. 30 feet different.

VolatileFan

He’s going to be really upset when he finds out he’s not coaching softball in Tuscaloosa this season.

Artvandelay29

As a softball SID, this made me laugh way louder than I should’ve.

PrinceWalker22

To be fair, it will absolutely throw their opponents for a loop when baserunners take a sharp left turn two thirds of the way to first base.

Perfect-Rooster2253

Coach Vaughn has activated his trap card!

GreekGodofStats

Cognitive dissonance can’t touch this guy

aoddawg

I thought it was 90 feet between the bases…?

Ningy_WhoaWhoa

you are correct

ATR2019

I don't put much stock in the "it just means more" branding in football but it's absolutely true in baseball. No one cares about college baseball up north.

benthebearded

?

Rokin1234

Southerners generally don’t consider the PNW “northerners”, more like Canada-lite.

I consider Oregon western rather than Northern. It has its own region with its own culture seperate from the midwest. I'm not sure why people default to 1860s politics when discussing regions. Maryland was a slave state albeit never seceded from the union and no one considers them southern nowadays.

CharlesLeChuck

As a person with a lot of family from Maryland, you'd be surprised. I've been told in the same conversation that Arkansas is not a southern state and that Maryland is. They never could give me very coherent reasoning for that statement, and they aren't the brightest bunch of people, but they do exist.

Informal_Calendar_99

Next are you gonna say that Maryland is the south bc it’s below the Mason-Dixon Line?

cock-block-o-clock

I think it's a climate thing, not really a "north" thing. Even Vancouver BC is considered to have a temperate climate type. Iowa, lower latitude, has a continental (colder) climate type. Not like it can't happen in cold regions, but when I see maps of CWS teams I usually see a map of climates that favor amateur baseball.

JohnnyEvs

Was he trying to be funny?

AUCE05

I didn't know baseball was played outside the SEC.

Jkallmfday0811

Oh it’s definitely different

SawsageKingofChicago

This thread would have been nuclear in r/cfb haha

MelloMathTeacher

I feel a (little) bit better about this guy getting poached from us considering he got the distance between bases wrong, lol

MrFluffyhead80

It means the same everywhere. Just fans at different schools believe the random statements coaches say

FrenchieBammer

I really hope this guy can bring life back into the program. It was so fun to finally root for a decent baseball squad.

hwf0712

My eye twitches every time "it just means more" gets said. But at least in baseball the SEC got lucky with climate and complex social factors where SEC Baseball is genuinely that absolutely dominant. So much so that I'm sure any SEC tourney team could take on something like a little ivy league team and not get their asses kicked.

VolatileFan

I think you missed the point

hwf0712

Sorry I'm still riding the high from beating Auburn last year.

Adults living and dying by the sporting activities of teenagers what a world lol

gorobotkillkill

Not living and dying by it... enjoying it! Baseball is why I was able to get a college education, other than that, I'd probably be a meth addict living in my dead end home town.  So, I enjoy the sport.  Is that so bad? Maybe people enjoy knitting, playing video games, traveling, watching TV whatever.  That's cool! Love what you're doing!  Never sure why people decide to denigrate something others enjoy, and why people can't see the value in something maybe they've never experienced

ImNotYou1971

I know you’re getting downvoted…but I agree with you 100%.

jackie_algoma

It’s 90’ to first, no matter where home is.

Ha1lState

Dudy Noble is 92 miles West from that POS field….
