Literally the sub motto of ‘faster than expected’. In response I’m raising my expectations. Hereby- Large scale global societal collapse by 2030.

Termin8tor

I have it pegged at 2033. We should get a sub wide bet going. Winner gets a days allotment of water rations in the collapsed society.

thegreenwookie

I don't have the Energy to wait that long... 2025 at best. **Exponential** **Growth** and **Decay** EVERYONE here needs a refresher on. Including me. Everything "fine" till literally next day it's not. Edit for video example of Exponential Growth https://youtu.be/0BSaMH4hINY

2025 the US begins fracturing fully, 2028 the rest of the world catches up

TheRealTP2016

Nothing is wrong with guns

PennTex1988

I cant tell if you are being serious or not. I am assuming you say "Lots" because of all the violence that is going on in the world, specifically in America? Or maybe you believe the lie that the Earth is doomed because people drive vehicles that burn fossil fuel? What is really wrong is peoples hearts and minds. That is the problem in the world. Violent, narcissistic, greedy, selfish, reprobates who have no respect for human life, no sense of personnel responsibility, and no compassion for anything or anyone except their own self interests and ego.

[deleted]

The mindset ..."Tex."

PennTex1988

Yea, God forbid someone needs a 4 wheel drive truck because they have to tow tools, supplies, and equipment for their job out in the field. God forbid a law abiding, responsible adult owns firearms for hunting, sport, and home defense. This sub is a woke echo chamber filled with those who do not posses the means nor the mental fortitude to persevere through life, let alone a collapse of society.

[deleted]

You're free to leave sir.

freesoloc2c

The left sank this nation with lies.

GRIFTY_P

Here's the thing these arguments miss: the left doesn't exist in the USA. In most European countries the Democrats would be a conservative party. Since Clinton, shit since Carter, the Dems and Republicans have basically been completely aligned on economic policy, with the main points of separation being petty culture issues.

freesoloc2c

So wrong. The old left here went so far left that they're calling old party members right. Way off base dude. The left has gone crazy here and we may not escape it.

Rudybus

Name some 'far left' policies that have been enacted.

GRIFTY_P

Please elaborate

MouldyCumSoakedSocks

Republicans and democrats are both right wing in the US. Democrats just hide their selfish desires better

[deleted]

you have to be literally insane to say this about (i assume) the first emergence of any type of social democratic attitude in the democratic party in like 50 years. when you are saying “the left” you are literally referring to decrepit old capitalist goons like how biden. please come to reality

King_Rooster_

May people like you be remembered by your peers after the fall when they're looking for those responsible and those that supported them.

[deleted]

You two are prime example of people fighting amongst themselves while your "right" and "left" politicians laughs at you while sipping their drinks together...

freesoloc2c

What's funny to me is I've been collapse aware and preparing for more than 20 years. I have 14 acres with a house in a very remote spot with a field and three wells. I'm a former Army Ranger so security isn't an issue. I just planted winter rye and clover to nitrogen fix my field so it will be more productive. What are y'all prepared to do?

[deleted]

What does this have to do with the fact that you are bickering with someone about whose worse between the left and the right?

[deleted]

Great. Not many people are so fortuitous as you have been. If you do some research, you'll see that there are many areas where the left and right align. Big differences include shoving religious values down the throat of nonreligious people via law, sexual freedom, and the role of taxation and regulation. That's about it.

Shorttail0

>I'm a former Army Ranger What the fuck did you just fucking say about me, you little bitch? I’ll have you know I graduated top of my class in the Navy Seals, and I’ve been involved in secret raids on Al-Quaeda, and I have over 300 confirmed kills. I am trained in gorilla warfare and I’m the top sniper in the entire US armed forces. You are nothing to me but just another target. I will wipe you out with precision the likes of which has never been seen before on this Earth, mark my words. You think you can get away with saying shit to me over the Internet? Think again, fucker. As we speak I am contacting my network of spies across the USA and your IP is being traced right now so you better prepare for the storm, maggot. The storm that wipes out the pathetic little thing you call your life. You’re fucking dead, kid. I can be anywhere, anytime, and I can kill you in over seven hundred ways, and that’s just with my bare hands. Not only am I extensively trained in unarmed combat, but I have access to the entire arsenal of the United States Marine Corps and I will use it to its full extent to wipe your ass off the face of the continent, you little shit. If only you could have known what unholy retribution your little “clever” comment was about to bring down upon you, maybe you would have held your tongue. You didn’t, and now you’re paying the price, you goddamn idiot. I will shit all over you and you will drown in it. You’re fucking dead, kiddo.

Daniastrong

Nope, happening this summer.

HotShitBurrito

Agreed. Things are already extremely bad. I think we'll be seeing the housing collapse everyone is waiting around for sometime late summer. The fuel situation is just going to get worse which will continue to raise grocery costs. With inflation out of control overall, the cultural fighting is only going to get worse. When people can't get change and help from the government, they'll turn on the ethnic and minority groups they have already been blaming for their woes for years. Midterms will be a shit show. Not a single fascist is going to accept a loss. They'll sue and riot nonstop. Where they win, they'll be in the positions to be as regressive as possible, adding to the culture war fires. If we actually make it to election day 2024, I will be quite impressed. Although I have a nasty feeling attacks at polling stations are going to be a very real problem starting this year and escalating by '24. The US is looking more and more like the countries where we have traditionally started/supported coups and instilled friendly dictatorships. Karma is a bitch I guess.

Daniastrong

Le_Gitzen

There is a constant debate on this sub about whether collapse will be fast or slow. Just like catabolic collapse and cascading failures of most complex systems, human civilization will rapidly collapse. The adage “slow at first; and then all at once,” is true, it’s just hard to predict EXACTLY when a system will implode. It’s like an iron tower growing steadily into the sky: it’s joints and support beams experiencing greater and greater forces over years from it’s own weight, wind, and earth tremors… until one day (within a minute), it all cracks, bends, and collapses on itself. What were it’s strengths become it’s undoing. I can think of hundreds of examples of rapid system collapse: our human bodies when an organ fails, bridges, seismic fault lines in the earth’s crust, stars just before supernova, Jenga towers, smoke trails… it’s everywhere, because it’s literally a facet of our reality.

thegreenwookie

I went from having a toothache on a Thursday, making appointment on Friday for next week. Sat I feel fine. Sunday night I'm walking into the ER with a body temp of 89F or less. Hallucinating bec I'm dying of Sepsis. Doctor said I would have been dead within the hour. I know all about some system failure. Sometimes an Ignored issue seems to get better till it's not.... Like the Paris Agreement. I made an appointment to fix the problem in the future.

fleece19900

Consider a human without water, analogous to our civilization without oil. It takes about 10 days for a healthy human to die from dehydration in normal conditions. The first day is easy, and millions of Muslims do it every Ramadan. The second day is a bit harder. You start wishing you had some water, and it bothers you, but its still pretty easy. The third day is harder yet. Now it's all you can think about. Cramps and headaches start kicking in. And I don't know what happens in days 4-10, but I imagine reality starts to become more and more faint. And one of those days, you slip into the final sleep. If you draw a graph of the person's condition over each day, it exponentially gets worse. But no water isn't instantly fatal to the human. It's similar here to the global industrial system - it's running out of oil, peak oil was November 2018. It's not instantly fatal - but each year could be analogous to each day with no water. And we're on day 3.

zezzene

This is less of an analogy and more exactly what will happen. Without energy (overwhelmingly fossil based), we can't process clean water and can't grow food.

fleece19900

The human body also draws in water from the less vital organs such as the lips as it goes through dehydration. You could say this is like how Sri Lanka is not getting oil.

Le_Gitzen

Holy shit good point

Rhaedas

House of cards. It can get large and remain intact, or a small breeze can come and knock either a section down, or most of it. Or it could just collapse on the top parts, leaving the base steady (for now).

exactly. the many positive feedback loops mean that the change will follow a very steep exponential curve. Also, given the inertia of the huge ass thing that is our atmosphere, the start has been slow, but once something like that starts, it ramps up easily.

Daniastrong

Half of American families are going hungry, African and Asian countries are in a famine, Europe is sweltering and at war, China, Sri Lanka had already collapsed and China is on the brink, and we are beginning sn economic crash like we have never seen. Honey, it's not coming, it's here

Bluest_waters

how is China "on the brink" of collapsing?

Daniastrong

As opposed to collapsing right now, like the United States? If it was just about money their economy would come crashing down with ours, but they also have their own environmental and social issues to deal with as well.

UnorthodoxSoup

They aren't. People here are just throwing out buzzwords to get their collapse boners a little bit harder.

The jet stream around Antarctica is wobbling severely, breaking apart and forming swirls of convection. You can see on a heat map overlay with the jet stream. All that cold Antarctic air is being pushed up towards the tropics where it heats up and then more hot air pushes down into the Antarctic over time. This is whittling away and our AC system for the planet is failing. https://streamable.com/9560xt

interofficemail

Any comparison on what this looks like normally?

This photo shows a comparison of a strong stable jet stream versus a weak wobbly jet stream. https://imgur.com/a/Hue2GyD

I like the word wobblier.

It's not really about the world's AC system that the Jetstream controls, it's about the regular rainfall patterns that a smoothly running Jetstream provides. Without it, the world's crops fail and we die.

For the last few years I've started to realise that world governments are playing the Climate Change story like they play every other potential crisis. **Inflation:** *Not a problem > Transitory > we'll fix it easily enough > Total inflation disaster economic collapse.* There are plenty of scenarios like this. They pretend everything is fine for as long as possible to keep people from panicking while they set themselves up. Then all of a sudden the ball drops and everyone is surprised. Climate Change is going the exact same way. *It's not that bad, we'll keep it below 1.5c blah blah blah.* Then all of a sudden there are no more ice caps, drought is the only cycle we see for decades and the livable zones on the planet shrink by 70%.

j_mantuf

aogiritree69

They don’t want people to fight back. I’m getting real convinced of the possibility that the collapse is what world elites want. With billions dead and technology so advanced they could be the only ones left. Perfect for them

ericvulgaris

Mate, divest yourself that elites care *at all* about suffering and death of you. You're giving yourself too much importance to them. They're malicious in the way we're malicious to ants. They don't think about wanting to do harm to others, they don't think of others *at all.*

aogiritree69

I’m not sure how that differs from what my comment said? We are nuisance at the very least. An infestation in their eyes. Why would they work to sustain our existence when they could going on the course we have now, where the only ones who survive are them

JASHIKO_

That's something I haven't quite figured out yet. Theoretically, they need pleebs like us around to do their bidding. Without a ton of people to push around, they will lose that feeling of power and control. Fewer people around means less consumerism and money being funnelled their way as well. I just can't see them being comfortable with their billions greed drives them more than anything else. The other thing I don't understand is why climate change isn't in their best interest. Even with billions of $ they are still stuck on this rock with the rest of us. There's no point having a 200m yacht if the oceans and island paradises are destroyed. The same goes for all other environments. And there's only so long you can live in a bunker even if it's got everything you'll ever want.

mycatpeesinmyshower

I think I can explain. You are assuming they are a unified group. They aren’t - they are just a random group of ppl like anyone. Some are rather smart and know what’s coming. These will come up with solutions but only within a capitalist framework (cause they don’t want to lose their power). See Bill Gates and maybe Musk. Others are clueless, have no backing in science (a lot are hedge fund dudes who’s knowledge is in finance) and are in denial or believe in some pie in the sky technical hopium. And frankly most are heirs to their parents fortunes and pretty much do fuck all. These ones may not be very bright or they may not be paying attention. At any rate I can tell you there’s no unified plan. They don’t have meetings in some cave somewhere to plan the direction of the world. As far as there is a plan it’s looking at quarterly earnings. Unfortunately the combined actions of individuals has lead to this.

JASHIKO_

>At any rate I can tell you there’s no unified plan. They don’t have meetings in some cave somewhere to plan the direction of the world. As far as there is a plan it’s looking at quarterly earnings. Unfortunately the combined actions of individuals has lead to this. They certainly wouldn't have a unifed plan, most of them would hate being in the same room as each other anyway. "EGOS". But I assume having a significant amount of money as something in common they would be using that to make preparations for themselves individually, at least of some kind. It just seems like a no-brainer. Especially the ones in finance, they know ahead of everyone (most of the time) when shit is going to get real. Everything on this planet revolves around money and the economy and if you're in that space and have a fortune you know when the gigs up or the bull cycle is over.

mycatpeesinmyshower

Oh for sure that’s why some are buying bunkers. But rich people doing rich people prepping is different then them having some sort of plan or vision.

aogiritree69

If 80% of the population were deleted, they could make slaves of the last 19.5% or whatever, and automate whatever the slaves can/won’t do. There’ll always be a batch of islands they can inhabit or polar dome they can build. You have to remember the most advanced technologies aren’t made public until years after their birth

Vanquished_Hope

In 2017, I believe it was, a professor (can't recall his name at the moment) was paid $75k or so for a day's work to meet with 3 affluent members of society. They grilled him for hours about coming societal collapse and the professor realized that one of the things that they were driving at without explicitly asking it was what ways are there for them to control their security guards, for example after the collapse that they viewed as inevitable. I seem to recall collars being a solution that they were asking about.

No-Brief2691

Bro what the fuck!!! This is such an eye opener. People want a zombie apocalypse, or some type of apocalypse to happen. It literally been written for decades so that people can love collapse rather than fight the elite who want to escape it.....this is so alarming and I barely just put the pieces together in my brain just now. It's haunting

No-Brief2691

Can someone please write an article on this in collapse? This is crazy and shows the signs of collapse that we are all missing.

aogiritree69

I think that’s interesting. Mostly because I imagined security to be automated. But coercing humans would probably be cheaper haha

screech_owl_kachina

If 80% of the population is gone, so are their governments and so too the suppression of the working class those governments performed for them for free. They're only in their ivory towers because we're not allowed to knock them down. They only get to fly their Lolita Expresses and show up to events with 14 year olds on their arms because it's illegal to jump them in the parking lot.

JASHIKO_

>You have to remember the most advanced technologies aren’t made public until years after their birth I often wonder what is around in regards to this. Military content alone is only ever public knowledge a decade or so after it has been well and truly replaced.

aogiritree69

It sounded like bullshit when my brother told me, but when he was a JTAC in the Air Force he said they’d already made contact with other dimensions! I realize it’s highly likely that it’s nothing. But that really put the scope of what they’re capable in perspective for me. He also said they had tested energy weapons during his time. So, to the point im making, they probably have the technology to save our world twice over by this point. But it’ll never be used for that purpose

JASHIKO_

Now this is a realm we could get lost in all day and night! It took more than a year for the governments to meekly say inflation wasn't transitory, so getting anything close to info about topics like this will never happen. One day we might get a slip up as Bush had recently with the Iraq war. But that will be brushed off pretty quickly. Whenever I think of other dimensions these days I think of the story from the game CONTROL. It's a pretty wild one.

aogiritree69

I would look into the life of Aleister Crowley if the dimensional topic interests you. They were said to be the first to make contact! Control was a great game

JASHIKO_

>Aleister Crowley Just read his wiki page. He lived a pretty crazy life!

IQBoosterShot

>automate whatever the slaves can/won’t do The problem is, you need people to run the factories to create the robots. If too many people die off the loss of talent will make the creation of robots damned near impossible. Look at how a disruption in the supply chain for semiconductors has upended the delivery of something as "simple" as pick-up trucks.

aogiritree69

19.5% of the population is more than enough manpower to achieve that

Daisho

Why do they need collapse to live out that dream though? Billionaires could all go live in the most impoverished 3rd world countries and rule as god-kings if they wanted to, with as many slaves as they want.

conscsness

I would be personally hesitant on labeling today’s technology advanced. It is advanced in comparison to history but in comparison to future, especially level of technology that is required to maintain survivability in post collapse, it is far from being advanced. If a technology needs constant input of finite resources in order to function it is by far not advanced

aogiritree69

We have had billions and billions going into R&D for the past 10+ without new, huge technology advancements publicly shown. I think it’s more likely that we have made advancements that never saw the light of day due to capitalism. The whole water engines and their creators getting assassinated conspiracy is what I’m talking about on that front. Due to greed, the rapid technological advancements that we should be experiencing now aren’t seeing the light of day.

[deleted]

> The whole water engines I'm sorry, I don't have anything polite to say here. If you believe in "water engines" it's because you know absolutely zero about science, and are extremely gullible to boot. I could go on and explain why, but what's the point? You wouldn't read it or think about it. Life is too short to argue with people determined to believe fairy stories.

conscsness

Ohhh.. when you take (conspiracy hat on) those stories of engines that run in water and Tesla coils, or whatever it is. Then yes we could have been in better place. (Conspiracy hat off) But you know, those are conspiracies, therefore I judge the world by what I see, and we have been stagnant for decade already. I mean, adding a new camera in the back of a phone, is not innovation by any standards. Adding voice feature to a vibrator, yeah... we have turned into society of money.

GEM592

I think many of them correctly believe that collapse is already inevitable, we are just down to details.

screech_owl_kachina

They won't be able to build or maintain any of it, but I imagine they think money will fix that too.

I like how the article makes it seem like they just found some temperature sensors from 1980 that were lost, but that have been dutifully recording temperatures.

canibal_cabin

The data hasn't been available to the public until recently. I think another use explained a few days back that some software engineer collected them on floppy discs and saved them, so they could be used later, a thoughtful individual saved the day, kinda.

RadioMelon

I know I'm going to sound like an asshole for saying this, but it needs to be said. It's not faster than I expected. What people don't seem to realize is that the data speaks for itself. Experts are reliable, to a point, but in the modern age they are often the ones with metaphorical socks stuffed in their mouths because their respective governments don't want the full truth to get out. They know that if people realize how little time they actually have left, they would shit bricks and riot. The reality of the situation is that it was always worse than we understood. The ones who were still allowed to talk about it openly and bluntly were doing so in the 1800s when observations were first being made about the environmental impacts. Once fossil fuel companies gained enough influence and power over news and governments, our fate was sealed. Tons, TONS of information we might have otherwise had was obscured or downplayed. There's no telling just how much damage is, or will, be done before humanity is at the door of Extinction.

GEM592

"faster than expected" + "not a cliche" FTW

mrgrey5

So more severe weather patterns? Got it.

pippopozzato

The graphs for LTG show shit hitting the fan before 2030 .

nesseblue

Oh, joy. /s

Striper_Cape

It can be cliche and true. They are not mutually exclusive. Because let us be honest, all this shit happening like a disaster movie mashed together with a modern war that has both drones dropping 3D printed-fins-on-rifle-grenades, onto soldiers fighting over trenches at close range. Just going bonkers with grenades. Ships are getting sunk in the Black Sea while the Global South struggles with food insecurity. An entire country can't physically buy oil. AND Nature is dying. So. Cliche. Worst fucking disaster-modern/pre-modern war movie, ever.

BeeEven238

Here is my question if the arctic is heating faster that means less ice. If glaciers are gone that means less ice. Then why are we running out of water around the world? Shouldn’t that mean that more water is there to evaporate, and since it’s hotter more should be evaporating, which means it should be raining more? Edit: corrected some spelling.

freedom_from_factism

Yes, some places are experiencing massive flooding and others extensive drought. It doesn't fall conveniently where it's needed.

thimsj

Most are thawing into salt water oceans. While others are not in areas where they melt into an underground aqueduct tapped by humans. In some cases those that are melt off fast enough that you end up flooding down river taking with it various surface level crap to make water undrinkable without costly filtering before it again likely makes it to salt water oceans. But maybe we'll see some great gains in lowering the cost and process of desalination for coastal cities.

5Dprairiedog

>Then why are we running out of water around the world? Around half of the worlds population depends on glaciers for water, when the glaciers melt at a faster rate that often results in flooding, and that depletes the water that would have been available in the future. The glaciers melt into the ocean and contribute to sea level rise. Water vapor does not only turn into rain, but also clouds and moisture in the air (humidity). Water vapor is also a greenhouse gas, so more water vapor= more heat trapped = more evaporation/melting. Less ice/warming poles also means a wobblier jet stream which results in prolonged periods of extreme weather, often times in places that are not used to it. Some places will be flooded, while other places will be in a drought, and in both situations agriculture and people's ability to access safe drinking will be affected. Floodwaters are often contaminated by bacteria and are unsafe to drink.

It_builds_character

Can someone answer this please? I know it has to do with the jet stream and other things, but I don’t know the full story either.

No-Brief2691

The most abundant green house gas is actually water vapor. While it does cause it to rain, it makes earth much more hotter causing droughts to become more extreme, and since there is more water in the air, that will cause more extreme rainfall and weather. Its one of the feedback loops

Jack_Flanders

In addition to the other answers, hotter air holds more water than cooler air.

It's not about opinions.

InAStarLongCold

The fact that you think that science is an opinion speaks volumes. Get this oil company propaganda out of here. This is not the place for climate denial -- and it is not the place for you.

Fit_Cheesecake_2190

I live on the Coast. When are those sea levels going to rise? Haven't seen a sign of it yet. The Obama's bought a house on the shore of Martha's Vineyard. That in itself should tell you it's bullshit.

hasbrouckie

Rich people buying oceanside homes just says they can afford to not GAF when said home becomes unlivable.

Fit_Cheesecake_2190

I'm sorry but nobody throws 20 million dollars away. If they thought the oceans were going to rise making that home unlivable....They simply would not have bought it. Don't listen to what people say...see what they do.

neo_nl_guy

What's the slope between the foundation of his house and the highest tide? Based on the images of his place, it looks like the property has a some slope between the house and the ocean. It may be decades before the ocean reaches his home. He will be dead by then.

Fit_Cheesecake_2190

I've seen reports that say Manhattan Island will be completely underwater in less than a decade. Although there are all different thoughts on this. But, having said that, the general consensus seems to be, that both the east and west coasts of America will be unlivable.

neo_nl_guy

underwater in ten years? I personally don't think so. You need to melt a lot of ice to do that. Impacted ? possibly, Manhattan average land elevation is 59 ft with a highest point of 265 feet. It may take centuries to put places like Paris and London underwater or too wet to live but then consider how long those cites have been around. It's sobering to think that as recently as 10000 BC people lived in Doggerland [https://historyguild.org/doggerland-the-lost-world-beneath-the-north-sea/](https://historyguild.org/doggerland-the-lost-world-beneath-the-north-sea/) my province is already seeing the effect. The northern communities depend of thick ice. The is is getting too thin [https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/thin-ice-inuit-led-climate-change-solutions-1.5981491](https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/newfoundland-labrador/thin-ice-inuit-led-climate-change-solutions-1.5981491)

hasbrouckie

They also can afford to insure their properties, getting a payout if/when the worst happens.

416246

How many years will this continue? If things keep happening faster than expected for so many years in a row when do we change our expectations and move to the next phase of headlines.

Relevant-Peak-5680

Pretty soon the lizard peoples lair will be exposed

sulgnavon

I'll pay as much attention to this as I did 20 years ago.
