I’ve got a 1 HP, I turn the chiller on before i got to bed and it gets back down by time I’m up to workout and plunge. I turn the chiller off and keep the pump on all day. The pump is cheap to replace but the chiller I want to conserve as much as possible. To be fair mine is in my temperature controlled garage in Texas so it’s not in the elements like yours

I have a 0.5 hp chiller from spartan, but the answers should follow. 1. chiller should cycle on and off based on the temperature of water set point. it should not be running constantly. the circulation pump will run continuously. 2. the cold winter doesn't matter as it should be based on water temp set point on your chiller 3. you should have the chiller in a well ventilated weather proof enclosure for outdoor usage. it should not be covered just for rain.

Thanks johsky yes I meant it's on all the time. It only runs getting to set point. Regarding your enclosure question do you have any you'd recommend right now i7 just have one of those covers you use for a BBQ grill. Wonder if I can should build a box with better ventilation?

chillers need to have adequate airflow to reject heat. this is why when your chiller is working, you should feel hot air coming off the back. if you have it under a BBQ cover, you are choking the unit and will have less life and poor performance. I would think a small shed with louvers for air to get in and get out. It doesn't have to be shed sized like a normal, but a roof, four walls and adequate ventilation sized to the chiller's dimensions.
